President Hakainde Hichilema says the government is intensifying efforts to reduce the cost of living for Zambians.
Addressing thousands of residents in Choma, where he met party structures and adopted candidates in Southern Province, President Hichilema said the price of mealie meal has started to decline due to improved maize production.
He said Zambia has recorded a maize harvest of about five million metric tonnes this year, a development expected to ease pressure on food prices and enhance national food security.
The Head of State also said the economy is showing signs of recovery, citing the recent recognition of the Zambian kwacha as the world’s best-performing currency.
He said these economic gains can only be maintained if citizens in Southern Province and across the country continue supporting the ruling party in the upcoming August elections.
President Hichilema urged citizens to participate actively in the electoral process, stating that voting plays a key role in determining political outcomes.
He said electing the opposition would reverse the progress made and return the country to high debt levels driven by excessive borrowing.
Meanwhile, Southern Province UPND Chairperson Billard Makwembo said the party is mobilising supporters and preparing for the campaign period ahead of the elections.

I like the padded vests he wears so often
But not so keen on his story telling
He won’t reduce the cost of living. He failed to do it in 5 years, then how is he going to do it if he is given another mandate, just how? This is the same like sworn in at 10hrs and the kwacha to the dollar picks at 14hrs. Achita monga auza bana
How can that handful of people he addressed in Choma be called thousands of people? These reporters also.
HH should have handed over to Gary in this election to save face. He is very unpopular even in Southern province itself. It is just because his subordinates can not tell him for fear of losing both jobs and privileges. Didn’t you hear Gary’s campaign manager praising ECL for the massive infrastructure development and a relatively better economy then then now.
For me I dont believe that we have a 4 million metric tonnes bumper harvest, i dont believe we have 12 billion dollars investment in our mines, i dont believe we have 6.7 billion dollars reserves, i dont believe the debt has been restructured, I dont believe loadshedding is gone. I dont believe because in election years, politicians say any thing. Where can I find an independent non zambian body to verify these figures being floated all over where even inflation figures being floated are racing against the pockets of ordinary Zambians. I want these figures verified to avoid another sworn in at 10hrs and kwacha picks at 14hrs.
My thoughts exactly figures thrown around like conffetti
4 years of zero suddenly all things are going to be rosey
bye bye sir come to mazabuka as well
