Three national teams this week are engaged in training camps in Lusaka and Kitwe.

Firstly, the Zambia national team is holding in a two-day get-together in two places at once involving 36 home-based and fringe players.

18 players each will over the next 48 hours be training in Lusaka and Kitwe under the eye of assistant national team coach Fighton Simukonda and head trainer Patrick Phiri respectively.

The Under-17 too is in camp in Lusaka where 35 out of 41 players have gathered for final team selection today ahead of the team’s participation in the Cosafa Under-17 Championship to be held in Namibia from December 8-15.

Under-17 Coach Wedson Nyirenda disclosed that three survivors from last year’s team are expected to play their last match under his helm when the team travels to Namibia next month.

The three are striker Kasuba Mwila and midfielder Tom Bakala both of Lusaka Dynamos including Zanaco’s Chisamba Lungu.

Nyirenda added that the six missing players from the provisional team in camp have been excused from training camp due to exam commitments.

The Under-17 coach said would trim the team to 25 players on Thursday.

Nyirenda’s team is in Group B at Cosafa Under-17 Championships with Mozambique and defending champions Swaziland.

And the Zambia Under-23 national team goes into camp in Lusaka on Tuesday to start preparations for their Olympic Games football tournament Group B qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire on November 17 in Abidjan.

Faz general secretary Fidelis Banda said today that the team will be in camp in Lusaka until departure for Abidjan on November 14.

  1. Patrick Phiri is busy looking at players for the Africa cup.Midlands and C.Belt players are busy being assessed.I thought by now we know which players to take into camp.We have the main team which had been playing the qualifiers. The boys that played in the COSAFA Semi final win over Mozambique like Steven Mwansa,E.Mayuka,Francis Kasonde,A.Mukuka,W.Chinyama and a few players from U-23’s and U-20’s.S.Sunzu,R.Kolala,Clifford Mulenga etc should be in the team now.

  2. Cont #2.By now we supposed to be playing friendly games with other countries and giving these new and young players experience. The Midlands team will be playing City of Lsk in a training game.(Weekly Post)I wonder how many of these players that will be picked from M.lands & C.Belt will actually play in Ghana. This to me is a waste of time and resources. We know which players we want, what we supposed to be doing is to give them game time.I know some of you may disagree but we have been through

  3. Cont from #3. this road before.Other teams are busy trying trying players in friendly games and not looking for players now.The have already identified the players the want, the just trying them in real games. Its different to assess a player against City of Lsk and playing the same player against Senegal in a friendly game.Lets bring in a few of the players in Sweden like B.Mwila,Edwin Phiri and S.Chalwe,N.Chivuta,Davies Mwape try them against Morocco or Mali.

  4. I agree with Sibs. How do you start assessing new players for the tournement to start in 2 months time? Don’t we have a ‘team’ already? The local league has just ended and iam sure the technical bench knows which local players perfomed well to be drafted in the national team. This is a crisis. When will the team have time to play friendly games? Please lets be serious for once.

  5. Quote from M’membe (14/02/2002)
“When this issue started, Levy [Mr Mwanawasa] was laughing about it. He was telling people jokes,” said Mr M’membe. “[Mr Mwanawasa] once said ‘I am a steak not a cabbage’,” said the editor.
Pipo, M’membe is gay and now playing hide and seek in order to desperately wow what can satisfy his needs. His boy friend died last year in Chelston after the popular known short illness. Now the chap is in league with MMD thugs.

  6. FAZ what are you doing when your friends SAFA and NFA are busy lining up preps with high profile teams. I’m tired of these sell out fools, its high time we did something to these fools because they’ll never change if we sit down and blog about it lets take it to the street and teach these fools what time is it.

  7. Ba FAZ mafi. We need friendlies. Namibia will be playing Tunisia on 17 Nov., South Africa will be playing Canada on 15 Nov and later in the month USA, Nigeria will be playing Egypt next week and later Sudan. I do not know what is happening with us. This is not the time to start looking for a squad. This is bullshit. Dont expect success at AFCON 2008. We are used to being “tourists” at competitions anyway and the main culprits are the football administrators. Players cannot be blamed.

  8. I predict doom for our national soccer team’s outing this year. Our preparations are non-existent, our strikers are not performing and what do you expect? First round.
At times we just blame the FAZ and yet the problem lies in the coach.

  9. I predict doom for our national soccer team’s outing this year. Our preparations are non-existent, our strikers are not performing and what do you expect? First round.
At times we just blame the FAZ and yet the problem lies in the coach. FAZ will only listen to an expat coach, who needs shouting at them .Bring back Jan Brouwer.
