Levy treatment takes K6b

Share

Only K6 billion has been allocated to President Mwanawasa in this year’s budget towards his general treatment abroad and medical fees.

This is against the K48 billion which has been suggested as having been allocated, by the Patriotic Front.

Chief government spokesperson, Mike Mulongoti said this in a statement to ZNBC News.

Mr. Mulongoti said he does not understand how the PF leader arrived at the figure when the total allocation to state house is only K21 billion.

He said it is illogical for any one to make statements before getting facts right.

Mr. Sata is quoted as having said that government has allocated K48 billion towards President Mwanawasa’s medical expenses.

  1. I mwe bakolwe 6 billion lu nono mulet no kuti only.listen there in what we call international medical insurance which you can use for a sitting president and those that are entitles to govt support onmedical bills and that will far less that 6 billion. lisukulunshi mwasambilile where you can fail to read this awae pele ni8ko ba chirwa who has travelkled i think he will understand what insurance saves

  2. Mulongoti is a very stupid human being! ONLY K 6 BILLION?? This is a lot of money for only one person. Give this money to UTH.

  3. See how stupid we zambians are? can you imagine how much money is spent between LPM and Chiluba? yet come this election in kanyama…we the poor we will be the ones fighting each other? my heart bleeds when I come across such stories. God help us? civil servants have gone without reasonable increaments for years? farmers are not getting paid for their produce, council workers go for months without getting paid and yet we allocate 6 billion to cater for LPM medical expenses alone? Zambians it is time we put a halt to such selfish acts? God help us!

  4. For how long have we lamented that if this money is invested inwardly to purchase modern medical equipment and for improved staff renumeration, all would receive better treatment including past presidents who also continue to go abroad for treatment.

  5. imwe ba zambia these chromosomes are taking us for granted, zambians, why, why!!.tax payers money,we work hard for this money to be spent like this, look at UTH, UNZA, these istitutions have been neglected for a long time, people, this is very, i repeat very sad!!!!!!

  6. Let us not forget the USD$ 1.8 million dollars that was wasted on Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika’s fruitless, selfish and failed AU ambitions just last month. The is greed and waste. When are the people of Zambia going to put a stop to this abuse of public money? Inonge should pay back that money, we need to build hospitals and schools across the country and also help flood victims. Pay back or go to Jail!! RDA should not build the Mongu – kalabo road until Inonge pays back our tax money!

  7. Levy will be made to pay back all these monies plus interest.
If he were to die before these monies are recovered, his associates will pay for siphoning public funds for the benefit of one individual. This surely is unconstitutional. If he is sick, he is not fit to hold public office. You thieves and thugs!!

  8. There are South African medicial groups like MedClinc who offer world class treatment. Why not just tell them to invest in Zambia. Z politicians go to Morningside in Jozi, which is owned by Medclinc, just attract medclinic to zed, we have a lot of doctors and nurses. Simple.

  9. See what I always tell you, “Voting is for suckers.” I for one will continue to hold my vote back not until we have individuals that are willing to serve before they can lead (Servant Leadership theory by James C Hunter). I shall be ready to join when people start demanding for accountability. continue making some failure’s dream come true. “Wise men are instructed by reason, men of less understanding by exprience, the most ignorant by necessity, the beasts by nature” – Marcus Tulluis. Zambian policiticians …by necessity? To earn a living and not to serve? ma rabbish ya chabe chabe..fortune seekers…!Not at my expense..no vote from me?

  10. We do not need medClinc to revamp our health sector? our government needs to buy the right equipment, pay our doctors fairly. but they would rather allocate themselves $60,000 in car loans, $4,000 petro allowances, $120,000 in gratuities? come on people…..how stupid are we not t realize that we have been taken for a jolly ride for too long? wake up fellow Zambians?

  11. You reap what you sow? This is what you get for your compromising your vote for a tin of chibuku during campaigns. Economists say ,” there’s nothing ever as a free lunch.” you had your tin of chibuku…pay back is b%$#@?

  12. Tonga Bull, you should’ve expressed your rejection of LPM through a vote. Zed is full of rejects in parliament because the ‘analytical’ voter like yourself is busy practising voter aparthy. May be it’s time a party called ‘Voter Aparthy’ is formed. The ‘chibuku drinker voter’ needs to be out numbered if quality leaders are to take control. Please, rational voters, exercise your right to vote. There is always a tit bit better candidate among the unsuitables.

  13. #7 I agree, Inonge should pay back our tax money or she should do time in jail, at least 5 yrs with hard labour. Levy and his friends need to be caged too. The prez is too fat that is why his brain is not working properly.

  14. Number 15..! even if i rejected LPM? what difference would it have made. vote for king cobra …another fortune seeker that is about to retire? what we have are illiterate voters and not rational voters? that is why individuals like sata, winas were able to lose in lusaka, but win thier respective villages?…rational voters? I won’t simply go the polls just to go and spoil my voter? i would reserve it for honorable individuals. voting does not make any sense if the people you elect do not serve the mandate of the people? continue voting my friend…that is your right. I am simply following my conscience.

  15. Y vote in sick people in the first place? The NCC shud luk into this matter seriously.1 person 6 billion jst in a year is outrageous.
    Adwala chani kansi mufella?

  16. Twalelanda ati mwi votela abalwele, manje moneni over one million dollars is being spent on one sickness and one person.

    Viva lavito!

  17. 6 billion Kwacha is £824,156.1543 which is also $1,611,884.965.

And all this because that human mafuta mountain doesn’t want to exercise. My father used to be the same size as mwanawasa and he used to jog for 30 minutes in the morning and he is now at 75 kilogrammes. All all it cost was 70 kwacha sneakers and a ZNS tracksuit. When the average person lives on $1 a day our elephant president is spending billions. I hope all the things he has done come back to haunt him , blessed are the poor and accursed is he that exploits them

  18. Really my heart sink 6 billion one person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! come zambians this is unbearsble. Look at how many people in zambia who are starving and one person is busy enjoying public funds. I agree with other writers pump the money to UTH get powerful machines so that every one benefits not chabe emwe mweka today London tommorow South i wish people from the govt can have a look at this site and see how grevied we are as Zambians. John white you are right my bro simple methods can do.

  19. I have just read one report which says the K6 billion is for medical treatment abroad for all Zambians including the president. And the Lusaka Times reports that the K6 billion is for the president alone. Which report is correct? Can someone clarify please?

  20. People debate truthfully,I have not read anywhere that these funds are for levy. My reading is that it is for all Zambians who will receive treatment abroad including the head of state.Dont mislead people please

  21. Lusaka Times please get this story straight as well, your account of this story does not match what other media have reported.

  22. When PLM goes on his so called working holidays to mfuwe he eats 1 whole baffalo alone, are you supprised he needs so much to keep him fit.

  23. Ba Nkana…! I get so emotional when i see such things happening? My prayer is that zambians will have the couarge to stand up and speak with one voice? you remember when the doctor’s went on strike in protest over lack of equipment in our hospitals… and nobody joined in to support them? the majority of doctors decided to move south. My prayer is that we elect honorable individuals into public office.

  24. If this 6bill story is true prezido is a cost to z so kusala amano or else kwisamwikata pa last ngafumapo.thats why twalibutuka

  25. this is totally insane!inhuman, selfish, incompetent, inconsiderate and absurdly ridiculous. they’all shud take him to Ng’ombe clinic wen he is sick so that he sees how pipo are sufferin, he sure wud pass on in a day. there are pipo who need to go abroad to get treatment, but cant afford, not knowing that money is jus floatin sumwer. malabishi, OUR TIME IS NOW, WE NEED TO CHANGE 6Bn kwacha can build a sku and a hospital n buy 4 ambulances, it hurts me wen i see such crap.
ZAMBIA, u need to speak out in the next election, maturely. im out

  26. Why in the first place think of sending your sick people out side your country for treatment? Its faces like Kulibonesha who make me sick. Invest this collosal amount of money rite in UTH. Thats why UTH was meant for when it was built in the 70’S. actually by the time it opened, it was one of the best hospitals u can go to in the region.
Ask yourselves where Thabo Mbeki goes for treatment? George Bush? Cant you take a leaf from the Israeli govt? Where did they take Ariel Sharon when he got sick?
Mwembula mano imwe, wake up and stop your rantings for nothing. We all need good health facilities at home not in neighboring south africa ata se.

  27. 28. Kulibonesha says: Feb 21st, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Lusaka Times please get this story straight as well, your account of this story does not match what other media have reported.

But why are Zambian scouting for money in the media not sent to Morningside if it is for all Zambians. Why should individuals like the owner of medison insurance sole sponsor that child to go to Israel for specialist treatment instead of Govt?

  28. LPM seeks medical treatment abroad. His children seek college/university education abroad. He goes for holidays abroad. Is anyone seeing this. If he seeks medical health abroad, he’ll most definitely ignore the health problems in the country because he doesn’t see or experience any. If his children go for schooling abroad, he’ll ignore UNZA and if he goes for holiday abroad, do you honestly think livingstone will be looked at??? Something has to be done. My vote is going to Hakainde Hichilema or Michael Sata 2011. Justice has to be done. We are sick and tired of this. We have to remove these sick sons of B#%$%$#.

  29. This may just be a tip of an iceberg, am axious read a comment from the likes of CITIZEN, EASY, PATRIOT and other cotton stuffed heads on this one. ‘Only 6 billion’ says Mulongoti, what a wanker! LPM and his legion of muppets are a comedy, infact they are disgusting

  30. Tonga bull its clear for all of us to see that your ignorance really runs deep within your veins. How do you think not voting helps solves anything in the long run. If you do not wish to vote shut and do not complain about what is going on. You where happy to sit in silence when your voice could make a real change so please shut up now and dont criticise the decisions of people who where brave enough to voice their opinion. You sound so neopotic it sickens me. Yes people are foolish to be bought so cheaply in time of elections but dont blame the as per say. They are impovrished and desperate and need to be given a worthwhile purpose in life. Yes it is outrageous for our poor state to be

  31. spending outrageous vast amounts of tax payers money on one individual’s medical bills when the rest of the nation can not even afford basic medical care. What we need is for us to strike a balance within our society, between the rich and the poor. Yes let those who work hard and attain success through rightous means enjoy their fruit but also let us not neglect those that make up the vast majority of our nations population. It saddens me to see people eyeing political office just to fatten their wallets instead of dedicating themselves to the betterment of those they serve. We need to stand up and be recognised as one, and begin to live our once famous motto, “One Zambia One Nation”.

  32. Zambian Gent…! We all have different approaches in life. voting in zambian makes no sense with current culture of plundery? There are consquences for every actions that we take and I understand? Understand me, with the current system that does not provide proper checks and balances really why waste my time to vote? To enrich another dreamer? to make webby chipili’s dream of riding a motor bike from south africa come true? it’s like pouring water in a bottomless container and expect it to hold? first fix the problem and i shall be ready to vote? get my logic!

  33. Zambia Gent..!You first have to look at the significancy? after voting what next..? You simply do not cast your vote just to increase the numbers? Tell me what you as a die hard voter/zambian populace has benefited? a multi party system then what? A change of personnel is not the solution? a system overhaul is needed. You may call me ingnorant, but trust me…mama never raised no fool/sucker?
Continue voting just for the sake of dipping your finger in ink and we shall see where it will take you?

  34. Zambian Gent …? tell me what your problem solving model is? I usually utilize kantonski’s model- 1. identify the problem 2. search for alternative 3. arrive at the action 4. Implement 5. Follow up.
I am sure yours is vote, vote, vote, vote, vote? wise up zambian gent? think all ways always?

  35. Zambian Gent…!So you relay on our greedy politicians to change things? if you watched Obama ” change has to start from the bottom”. the majority of the people we elect take us for suckers/fools. do you even follow the debts? i have great respect for for Hon Jonas Shakafuswa? he is the only MP who had brought up the notion of reducing MP’s salaries and then redirect the money towards constituency development funds? do you that not even members of his party then UNPD supported him? they all ignored him citing that he was supposed to be glad that he was driving a nice and was able to live in decent area? are those the kind of people you can set your hopes on?

  36. Zambia Gent..!I understand people are impoverished and desparate. But asking them to vote when there is no proper mechanism wont solve anything? But telling them to take charge of situation will? how do you empower them to take charge? I don’t want to list the steps as some people may intentionally decide to misquote/misunderstand me?

    What is your solution?

  37. Is it no longer competence that matters? Levy is bribing Eastern voters and makes no secret about it.He did the same to North Western voters, vote MMD and I will reserve Ministry of Labour ( held by the late Lt Col Kafumukache- may his soul rest in peace) for you. So what has Mukuma or Pande achieved?

  38. Apparently Morning Side are making so much money from Zambia they have decided to setup here.

They are the ones building next to ZAMTEL Cell Z House on Church Road, yippeee exactly what we needed, more Boers to externalise money to RSA.

What a government, what a president, what a country.

  39. In my own opinion, LPM is sick he should resign and let healthy people govern ours. Why wasting such a huge amount of money which use to improve living standard of people in shang’ombo.

  40. Yaba, who who who i am coughing i have TB can anyone fly me out of the country for my medical checks no no ok change of mind my mother has not benefitted from the rural electrification.
Levy should buy the gym equipment treadmill so he can work on his belly. mwisho LPM findo ifyo……

  41. can God help us in this scourge, why on earth spend all this money over the mediacl treatment of our president. i actually cant see a reason why allocating this sum of money while we have our children suffering in Zambia. i cannot use any bad words here but what im saying is that as anation we are lost……..!!!!

  42. FIRST OUR PRESIDENT HAS HIS SALLERY,HE HAS A LAW FIRM,HE HAS ALLOWERNCES WHEN HE GOES OUT, AND HE IS GOING TO HAVE THE BIGGEST GRATUITY WHEN HE RETIRES THAN ANY PRESIDENT AND ON TOP OF THAT HE HAS BEEN GIVEN THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR HIS MEDICALS,AND TEKA FARMS ON TOP. MY QUASTION IS WHY? IS IT MAKING THE RICH MORE RICHER AND THE POOR MORE POORER?
AND LPM SAYS HE IS DEVASTED BY THE POVERTY OF THE OLD PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA, IS HE TELLING THE TRUETH?

  43. levy must be really very sick! to require billions of kwachas on medical fees!the man is really sick. no wonder people say hes not himself i mean the chibumba he was before the accident.maureen is the one who rules us.oh mother zambia. the late Dean Mungomda said,” zambia deserves a more sane president”. God help us, give us a leader.

  44. BaPatrick must be dying, K6 billion? Obviously now, at least to me, its true that he doesn’t have enough ‘lower kick’ to entertain the MMCI boss. May be most of the money will be spent on a new ‘shlong’.

  45. And you say SATA be president… how does someone mix 6 billion and 48billion…..Might be alot of money, but if i am not mistaked…Wannabe SATA asked for $50,000 from the Taiwanese Government for a 4 day trip…….Imagine if only he was the one occupying the statehouse…you think it wouldnt be $5,000,000 just for his trips to usa…with his b”est”friend : Scott ??

  46. Levy if you need so much money for treatment abroad, then you’re not fit to be in State House. If your house was in order, you would have funded UTH in the 6+ years you’ve already been in power.
So you know UTH is not good enough for you? Give us all a K6 bn for our treatment abroad, or fix up UTH and get your treatment from there as well.
    You fat negro.

  47. Tonga bull I ask myself one serious question, how far did you get with your education and by this I do not mean any disrespect. Look a vote is the only way you can voice your opinion on what direction our beautiful nation should take, what kind of leadership we should have. I am not merely diping my hand into a pot of ink, I am expressing a right my fore fathers died so that you and myself could be free of tyrancy and oppression. Yes, this is not the case at the moment in our state but as was once said by an individual much wiser than I am at the moment, a thousand mile journey is begun with but one step. Rome was not built in a day nor where the states that boast to be developed.

  48. they too went through centuaries of struggle to reach the levels of governance that they have attained. Its sad that you think a vote is of such a petty importance as you say. Again if I may ask how then can you as an individual like myself make your voice heard within the state. Surely you can not possibly think that silence solved any thing. If that was the case why have people so bravely and selfish paid the ultimate price so that your voice could be heard by the very specila right of voting? My solution my friend well that there would be venturing into personal opinions which often tend to lead most of us asstray from the main objective at hand. You speak of Obama dont you, yes change

  49. must begin from the grass roots as this is where all principles are manifested into the character of every individual. But what you fail to see is that if we all felt the way you do, our children and their children would be forever stuck in the vicious cycle of forever having self pity and hopelessnes. Yes I do agree that we most only ever have candidates aspiring for public office that have ulterior motives too serving but that is where we come in. We have the obligatiion to remove them from office or to keep them there depending on how they perform. You also went on to speak about Hon Jonas Shakafuswa and him wanting wages lowered for

  50. members of parliament. That was a noble thought on his part but if you where in office would you go ahead and agree with this suggestion. Yes they are not meant to have a larvish life but dont you think that they should be comfortable enough for them so as they concentrate on their duties to the fullest of their capabilities? Note though that I am neither agreeing or disagreeing with his statement because I do not have the relevant facts such as how much the do receive in wages and allowances etc for me to base my argument on. But like I said again before, yes I do think that you are some what ignorant as to what is going on around you and unfortunately yes i feel that afool might have been

  51. raised in yourself my fellow zambian. So that quote did not do you any justice but lets forget that for now as it is unimportant. What frightens me is that in your mind I can see that you feel that violence is the only solution to everything. Dialog is the key my friend, not violence. A pen has always been mighter that the sword, in your case it would probably be sticks and stones. Ok how else can the poor people of our nation make a difference then? You say you have a soliution but all I see is you quoting another man and trying to use his opinions and principles as your own. My solution would be for the educatiuon of our people, open their eyes to what they are truely owed and all that

  52. they can archieve as a nation. We need to make sure that within all of us is an individual who is willing to work and not just drink his life away with every penny he makes. We need to imbed upon the minds of youths that fruits of had honest labour are far better than fruits gained from crooked ways. We also need to get this westernised persona that our population has been infected with of everyone trying to out shine his neighbour. We need to quit being envious of our brothers and sisters archievement and be happy for them if they deserve it. Look at the nation of Japan for example, they where bombed almost to total anialation but they came together, sacrificed together as a generation and

  53. now look at them. They have one of the worlds strongest economies. Bottom line vote dont ignorant sit back and think that your wishes of change will come about just like that. You are right in the sense that we generally do not have a choice of leadership taht is motivating right now but change will come. However it has to start from within all of us all of us. By the way I will dip my whole body into the ink if i have to to vote for that is a privilage that I do really cherish. You need to live under a dictors rule, then we will see how much more you will take forgranted these rights which you have

  54. Bushe Muli K6b muli ama transformer yanga,….ama Generators?…Incubators….How many Residential roads can be tarred….Schools….Clinics/Hospitals…Pliz parliamentarians lets be prudent

  55. Zambian Gent? I am pretty sure you understand the process of organizational change? I have searched for all alternatives, i have re-evaluated my action steps? mere voting will never bring the desired change, unless supported by viabrant system. Zambian Gent I am a very principled man. that is why i look for the same characteristics i uphold in our leaders. Building Rome required alot of skill? so should be our approach to end the greed being promoted by our politicians. Zambian Gent..it will take brave souls and dedicated individuals to change the culture of plundery in zambia? if it will take sticks and stones to make our voices heard then let it be?

  56. Zambian Gent, come on now! so you vote for people and yet you do not know how much they earn.To me the greatest leader is one who sacrifices and serves the most? Go do your research? it your duty as a responsible citizen to know how your money is being utilized? that includes how much our MPs earn. our understanding is quite different. I was trained to function as a change agent. liberal arts…humanities.

  57. Zambian Gent i always cite my sources?obama, the problem solving model…? From your mind set i am able to tell that were are of different generations? the world has evolved and so is our approach. anyway continue voting and wish you luck.

  58. My fellow zambian as i have already stated one of the main factors that has to change in order for us to progress and keep up with the times is through the general education of our people. Through this we will one day spawn a citizen capable of leading us forward as our national leader. look we might be from different generations but that has no basis here. it seems to me that you have been brain washed by your so called educational background and it sadens me that you are too stubborn and have been brain washed to see past what others have said is the norm. flexibility in times of change is a must my fellow zambian. One thing i would like to ask of you is this. name me five leaders that

  59. fall within this category of total financila sacrfice for the good of the people. lets see in our most recent history i can think very few, an din my opinion though they do sacrifice a lot of themselves, they did not live on bread and water alone. individuals like mandela, ghandi are the only two that come to mind and do you know what these two are of the most exceptional calibre of people. so please stop dreaming and get back to reality. reagading you quoting people say for instance obama, are you not just taken by his words and the charisma that he is able to give off. funny thing is he reminds me so much of your former president chiluba before he was elected. dont let words disillusion

  60. the clarity of your thoughts. and you say you always cite your sources. does this mean you have not developed a charactor that has his own mind set and cansee beyond thevision of others. you have learnt and i commend you for that because most of our nationals cannot be botherd to pick up a book. but please do not just let your mouth to merely regargitate this knowledge because where i come from thatis what is know as mere memorising. i was frank enough to state that i did not know what the ministers earned yes because the pointi wanted to argue in regards to this could not have held much weight but i will non the less put it across. regarding pay what do you think should be the national

  61. minimum wage? also why do you think there is so much corruption in our state. simple, people do not get enough for what they do. would you sacrfice the standard of living that you have earned for your self (thats if you have archieved anything at all). what i am ok with is that if they are paid what they are paid an they do not steal from state funds well and good. no one does any thing for nothing in this day and age. oh dont take this as an offence but you read humanitis and liberal arts right, is that because you could not make the cut for say something like law studies. dont blame the world for your mistakes be bold enough to say you are the reason your life is the way it is and do not

  62. topics like these to hide your resentment for the world when you are the master of your own destiny. bottom line is this we need our people educated, taught their rights as citizens and for the lazy mind set and the want of everything your neighbour has to be washed out of their heads. do not blame the people in power. work hard and be the one to make a change. it my take a long time maybe even loger than your lifespan but if we all were to tjink this way change would come.

  63. Zambian Gent…? It is such a pity that a well articulated gentleman such as yourself fails to see beyond the scope? whom do you think has brought all the misery that zambians are experiencing? you have actually mentioned it yourself…”be the one to make a chane.” i alone can not change the cultural of plundery? it is our duty to educate the masses about what is really happening…for instance, let the papers display how much our politicians earn…and see how the general public would respond? the zambian people have always played their part (voting), but it is the greed politicains that seem not to hold up to their expectations. very few individuals have sincere concern their respective

  64. …constituiencies? Dipak Patel was one of the few. Our leaders lead very confortable lives at the expense of the majority that are suffering. Zambian politics is a get rich scheme? I am pretty sure you must be one of the political appointees as you seem not to agree that our politicians are over paid for doing junk and making speeches to please their master LPM. Flexiblity has to come from both ends (leaders and voters). why should the voters be the ones to sacrifice all the time. apart from voting and eduation, what else can lead us the change that we all desire? on wages…our leaders salaries should be in the same range with senior civil servants? on corruption stiffen the laws..

  65. ..25 to life simple as that? if you cant do the time dont do the crime. on my education…area of expertise doesn’t really matter? what you do with it, is what matters most (primal). Are you in the lobbying business! Obama has achieved what we thought would never be attained during our generation. it shows you that people are tired of the way things have been done in the past. That is what zambia needs? leaders that are willing to sacrice in deed and not in word (FTJ). everybody has to participate in the sacrifice. other wise continue voting Zambian Gent and make some loser’s dream come true? you vote is the winning combination they always look for? my mother did not raise a fool?

  66. Zambian Gent..besides Sata, HH, Prof CC & maureen? who would be the best man/lady for the top zambian job?

  67. CAN THAT STUPID ***** SAY ONLY 6BILLION??? THATS ALOT OF MONEY.. WE CAN DO SO MUCH IN THAT… ABASH MMD.. ABASH!!!! MULONGOTI IS FOOLISH…

  68. the president must be very very sick for him to need 6b kwacha for his medicals- pity to the tax payer whose money is being abused.

  69. Look yes I as a black is very proud of what Obama is trying to archieve not merely because he is deemed to be of my race but that he is working towards change. Through people getting educated they will see and learn to appreciate good leadership when they see it. And to answer your question on whether I work for the government the answer is no. You are right regarding the point of there being a need for transparency within the fields of media so that our people would be better informed but I do not se this happening soon seeing that the majority of media information bodies are state owned. Also yes it is true that most of our politicians are not adequately prepared both financially or

  70. morally. That is why we need those that have been educated, have lead in their various aspects of industry and are satisfied with their archievemnets to then stand up and lead the nation forward just as they have done with their lives. On the issue of voting, ask your very own parents, that is if they happen to have been around when our struggle for independence was going on, as to how many people suffered and lost their lives just so we, that is yourself and I could be free to pick who lead us as a nation. When you have done this come back to me and let me know how much of a sacrifice was made because maybe then will you understand why i value voting so much.
    In regards to the leaders

  71. yes a lot of them should not even be standing for presidency but what we need to do is to appoint one that will atleast value our rights so that future leaders can grow and blossom into great leaders. Even though our current president seems to have lost most of the peoples faith, he has atleast given you the freedom to work at bringing change about in your lives. There is no opression, directly anyway for there will alaways be oppression no matter where you go insome form or another, and he has tried to stabalise our economy. Remember ther is no such thing as a perfect leader just as their is no man that is perfect. We all make mistakes but what needs to reaped from them is the lesson.
    I

  72. UI did not agree with what ever amount of pay the MP’s get. How can I do this without knowing what the sums are exactly. All I said is if it is line with their expense’s it is fine with me. Then also they should look into the minimum wage for the people across the board at not just their own.
Our economy suffers because a lot of our resources are spent on areas that are not really of much importance. What we need are some state owned franchise’s thus aliviating some of the presure palced on the tax payer by them having to pay less PAYE tax. But I will leave this t the economists and people who have the adequate qualifications to come up with a workable idea. But it is a fact that no state

  73. this world relise mainly on taxing its people like ours does for it has the highest level of PAYE in Southern Africa.
So yes there are gredy politicians out there but what has to be changed is the mentality that is instilled in them from childhood which is one of steal as much when you have the chance like for instance when you are in power. Greedy individuals will always live amoung us but we must put into place mechanisms that stop them from being able to in the first place like independent councils. There should be closer auditing and scutinising of public spending and budget allocation and yes there should be stiff penalties for corrupt behviour, not only in government institutions

  74. but also in the private sector. Look bottom line is there is a lot that has to be done but only time can permit this. But please do all of us proud and vote. Atleast that is one less vote for the individual that you most think should be in office as president.

  75. Zambian Gent…..you are absolutely right my brother! i do not understand why it took me this long to realize that we have been on the same boat after all. I shall surely participate in 2011 both as a voter and contender…..and see what happens. Thanks for your well articulated insight….cheers brother….!

  76. Zambian Gent….If i ever contest…i shall do it as an independent as i do not want to align myself with fortune seekers.

  77. Dear Lusaka Times: At least you should exercise some responsibility by ensuring that you do not allow discourse based on misleading facts. Minister Mulongoti was veruy specific, but you elected to misinform and hence the useless discussion. If people are to take part in a discussion let it be based on facts. Shane on all of you who peddle untruths and engage in them.

  78. Mr Mwansa could you then advise us on what was said exactly as the truth will surely help in our understanding of the fore said statement by minister Mulongoti

  79. This is further evidence of the calibre of leadership Africa is plagued with. They are all bloody thieves. No wonder the anti corruption drive has yielded nothing more than further embezzlement of public funds. What an outrage! Please, God deliver us!

  80. MHSRIP!!! At least he’ll be a very rich corpse…You have feathered your own nests at the expense of the poor and disenfranchised. “Thou shalt not steal!” You shall surely have your comeuppance!
