Remain calm, teachers advised

Share

The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has appealed to teachers with outstanding salary and housing arrears to remain calm as the union negotiates with government to have the arreas paid.

BETUZ public relations officer Hillary Chitango told ZANIS in Lusaka today that the union is negotiating with government to have the arrears paid soon.

Mr. Chitango said the negotiations will be concluded in the shortest possible time and that it is important that the teachers remain calm and do not make any hasty decisions that will affect the talks.

He, however, bemoaned the delays in paying salaries for teachers especially those in rural areas because it affects their performance.

Mr Chitango disclosed that the union carried out a survey that showed errors on the teachers pay slips.

He said this means that the pay slips will have to be reprinted which will result in teachers getting their salaries late.

He advised government to pay teacher’s salaries on time which should be the same for other payments such as housing allowances and arrears in order to promote industrial harmony in the country.

  1. It is an irresponsible, uncaring and cruelity of the west kind to tell the starving teachers to be patient.Have outstanding salary arrears meaning strving full stop.My advice to the uncaring BETUZ is to source some money from somewhere and give the suffering teachers as an interim measure as you negotiate with GOVT. You will be eating and at the same time get allowances fore each meeting no wonder you are delaying you self-centered creature. Tell Magande to release money for those without hestation the way he does during bye elctions.Your adviced is fake and ill-concieved. You are uncaring and I hate from today on wards.

  2. Since when do people have to negociate for what they have worked for? Stop this nonsense and give the teachers what is due to them.

  3. Remain calm while they need food on the table? why on earthshould negotiations take that long, and every time it’s remain calm. Why didn’t Lungwangwa remain calm over his benefits when he quit lecturing? Didn’t he sue UNZA? and now that he’s minister people should remain calm?

Union leaders should be assertive, challenge those heartless leaders that thier members have basic needs to meet. Cost of living is becoming too unbearable, and you are saying remain calm? Please save us from this primitive talk.

  4. Let them remain calm, all arrears should be compiled and this should be paid in the shortest possible time. The problem in salary arrears is mainly with PSMD which has a new system that rejects inputs dating back for more than one year. Hence, finance will need to provide the funds as other emoluments to the teachers and the responsible parties should ensure that this is paid once released.

  5. Come again!!! PSMD?… You mean there is a system that rejects inputs dating back for more than one year?

  6. Chivivuleni fye! After all that’s the machine language they understand … unless you tell us you’re happy.

Bala mingilila pofye. Remaining calm when one is desparate for food is like sitting on a pin, pretending to be confortable.

The ***** telling them has eaten and will find food ready for him, rentals paid for him …and shit cleaned for him!

Useless government financial priorities. I wonder what union BETUZ is … as if it were dealing with small kids ready to receive mazoe?

  7. #5 has exihibited hypocrisy of the worst kind. Who does not need money for survival. For the salary arrears to acrue for more than a month means the teachers were patient. Now why don’t MPS and Ministers excercise the same patiency when getting sitting allowance in parliament-mind you it is just an allowance for sitting(most ofd them as you know remain quite in Parliamemnt. What about huge gratuity?. Or why not excercise patiency to undertake expensive trips locally and abroad by our leaders including the President.Loook at the types of brand new vehicles our leaders use. It is just a matter of priority moent is there.ZRA collectws every day.#5, you are equally uncaring.

  8. #5 has exihibited hypocrisy of the worst kind. Who does not need money for survival. The fact that they have salary arrears means the teachers were patient. But why don’t MPS and Ministers excercise the same patiency when getting sitting allowance in parliament? When getting huge gratuitiesy?.When releasing huge amonunts to be used on unnecessary bye-elections? Or when undertakin unecessary expensive trips locally and abroad- by our leaders including the President.Look at the types of brand new vehicles our leaders use. The fact is-it is just a matter of priority. There is always money in the GRZ coffers.ZRA collects every day.

  9. Being patient for what? That is money somebody has rightfully worked for and they deserve to be paid without let. Gov must be ashamed that they cant pay for a service that keeps it running, what a pity. I dont what has come up with our leaders. Pls, pay the poor teachers, they are already of meager salaries and you have the audacity to abuse them, thats silly I think. Pay them ata!!

  10. dont politisise straight forward issues , please give the teachers what belongs to them period.where is the minister of education , probably sleeping due to a full stomach

  11. Thick no. 7, resolving issues at the fastest time patiently is better than striking then going back to the negotiating table. Govt is bureacratic and doesn’t release funds just like its you grandfathers pocket.
