The Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ) has warned that it will come up with a ‘shame list’ that will expose the shortcomings of the cellular service providers
Communications Authority Chief Executive Officer Shuller Habeenzu says this is because the three cellular service providers in the country are performing below the required standards.
Mr. Habeenzu said the service providers namely CELTEL, MTN and CELL-Z were exploiting consumers because they are paying for a service which they are not getting.
He said the Authority has since embarked on an exercise to work with other stakeholders to come up with legislation that would empower the Authority to impose stiffer penalties on cellular service providers that provide a poor service.
Mr. Habeenzu was speaking in Lusaka today at a press briefing on the preliminary monitoring programme of the mobile operators in Zambia.
Hahahahaha! Hands free! Is this made in Zambia or China?
They are too expensive. because this goverment enjoys high tax’s it does not bother what the providers charge the poor pipo.
Total rip offfff.
Chinese and indans have resorted to using adapted walkitalkies or their own ”Public radio systems”
its made in ZamChin near Chambishi.
A blue tooth. should be accessible to all who need it. It is a good thing to find out why their services are so expensive
Nice picture.I bet the dude was trying to impress his girlfriend.Beware of radiation!
DAMMMMMMMM!!!!! PLZ TELL ME THAT AINT A ZAMBIAN DAMMM DAMM DAMM DAMM!!!!!!!!
In reality “some” mobile operators are exploitative but the truth of the matter is that up to 26% of the cost of mobile calls is down to tax.
10% duty is charged on airtime and then you are charged an additional 16% (New VAT rate)on top it.
hahahaha my friend this is a special one from pa ZEDDD walaba shani infact southafrica of zambia or sorry southern province in zambia ahahahaha
You dont have a free market in the telecommunications industry. Zamtel should be dismantled and made to compete and be regulated like the other telecommunication companies.
We want Bluetooth!!!! It is like lacking banana’s when they are being sold @ 48 cents per LB.
No 8 what is the connection between the person in the picture above and southern province in Zambia? i need your explanation sir or madman because i am lost with your anology.Thanks.As far as i can recollect this person in the picture is not Shuller Habeenzu the CAZ chief excutive.
“One day the bluetooth Technology will be affordable to all.”
Those companies are too expensive despite offering poor services. Here in europe mobile phone services are too cheap and everyone including school children have mobile phones. But why is that in a poor country like Zambia phone services are costly? Here sms are free,a call costs a cent per minute!!
LPM please help poor Zambians.Communication is too vital in everyday life.Reduce tax for these companies to reduce the cost of their services.True, phone services in Zambia are just beyond the limit!!!!!!!!!!! GOD ASSIST POOR ZAMBIANS!!
Invite those european companies to come and compete with the companies here and maybe I’ll finally afford a cell phone with enough minutes to keep in touch.
Europeans are worse….we dont want to go back to slave trade now do we…
let the chinese come up with a telecom company that will have 4 band technology….
Real Zambian #16 & 13
Do you know what bluetooth technology is? bluetooth technology is just a little feature in some mobile phones, laptops etc. that allows users to connect wireless headsets, speakers and share Data within a space of up to 100 metres and it has nothing to do with your mobile network provider. what you guys must do is pressurize your network providers to cut the data prices because you’re being robbed daylight.
I know that chap no the photo, infact he is from zakumawa.
You guys are just dumb and no wonder it’s the party of fools(PF) that is a leading opposition party in Zambia. Celtel has been providing internet at for over 2 years now but only less than 10% of it’s subscribers use it. how do you expect the operators to introduce new products if you are unable to use the existing ones? in South Africa we are now surfing the internet at lightening speeds with 3G and Hsdpa, we are also able to make face-to-face video calls with 3G enabled handsets.
1.Hands free nice one. What about China.Do know that 90% of the phones in the world are assembled in China? So stop degrading the chinese staff.I used to think like that as well not untill i visited china and saw thise guys can do.
The man on the picture has used his inguinity and creativity. Give credit where its due. Thats how civilisation began. Just because you have better facilities in your phone does not qualify you to laugh at others who dont. He may be living a much happier life than you do despite his lack.
Celtel and Cell-Z are exploiting us too much.
To me those sentiments by the Cheif executive of the CA raises questions like …Is the CA really independent? Does the CA has adquate legal mandate to perform its faunctions?
Why should he talk about making legislation for stiffer punishment to defaulters now?haven’t the (CA) conducted studies on how Independent Regulators perform elsewhere? The regulator is not supposed to complain but to act or bite in order to serve public interest. This more or less like soldier guarding a diginitory running away..now the question is are we safe with this toothless CA?CONT…
Why were thsose customer protective laws put in place at inception?Because I believe and it is afact that the job of every regulatory body is to level the playing field in the sector iut regulates. There must have been some interests in the regulated(those cellular companies) by some influencial politicians-that is why they past an ACT to creat a whate elephant in CA or a toothless Bull dog. The sooner the CA law is amended the better for the benefit of consumers. The CA is also aproduct of some corrupt act-some people must have got some money from these unregulated cellular companies.Shame…!
# 18 your sentiments are not beffiting the purpose thius important debate here. Calling people who are currently in Zambia dump and the PF a party of fools is quite unfotunate statement from apotentila leader.Yes celtel has provided internet service but you may not know the reason why there has been low response. may be the service is not upto standard or the product was not sold satisfactorily.
By the way staying outside Zambian does not men being better off than people you have left home neithier does it make someone brainy or a think tank. this is free advice.
The rates are ok.its just Zambia is less develepoed and the tramsitters are under utilised due to scanty population and this loss finacially is passed on to the consumers.Zambia is still not ready for development as evident in vandalism of equipment and theft of cables, the cost is again passed on to the consumer. Some of you guyz can remember that when mobile phones were being introduced in Europe,Subscribers had to pay not only for outgoing calls but for incoming calls but in Zambia this has not been the case,KM Russia you should have mentioned this in your posting as Russia is a typical example.
