Govt happy with oil and gas findings in Chavuma

Share

Government says the discovery of oil and natural gas in Northwestern province will create more job opportunities for people.

Provincial Minister Kenneth Chipungu said this when he addressed a public meeting at Chiyeke basic school, Monday, in Chavuma district during his inspection tour of poverty reduction projects(PRP).

Mr. chipungu explained that once the gas and oil mines were in fully operational, a number of local people would be employed and there by sustain their livelihood.

He has since called upon the people of chavuma to be united and work as a team to develop the district.

Mr. Chipungu, pointed out that days of politicking were over and that people should now concentrate on development of the area.

The minister said rumor mongering, name calling and finger pointing amongst themselves should be discouraged because such vices retard development of the area.

Meanwhile residents at Chingi border post in Chavuma are drinking untreated water because the area lacks piped water.

This came to light when Mr Chipungu and other Provincial heads visited the area.

The officers who took the Minister and his team round showing them the only contaminated water well situated near pit latrines lamented that they felt they were neglected and that they were not in Zambia.

They said since the water pump broke down in 1995 no one has ever thought of replacing a new one there.

The officers also complained that they were living in dilapidated houses which were on the verge of collapse.

And Mr. chipungu has since instructed the department of water affairs to improve the water situation at chingi boarder post where Police, Zambia Revenue Authority, health, Education and Immigration officers are living.

  1. Please dont let the USA know about the oil and natural gas. The results will be catastrophic. Just look at the tensiom building in Venezuela. Govt, please be smart om this one

  2. You guys are just speculating why do we have all these high oil problems if we could just have our own?….lairs

  3. To begin with, just how could any sane man or woman in their rightful mind trust a Mugabe crony, worse still one who goes by the name Chidyausiku?

“This is a new phenomenon,” said Zimbabwe’s ambassador to the United Nations, Boniface Guwa Chidyausiku, noting that four simultaneous elections were held Saturday.

  4. the oil thing is real and that grz is looking for a strategic partner to build or invest in the oil industry of Zambia and that the grz is also updating our oil and natural gas acts etc so that we dont have situations as whats happening in Nigeria or the future situations where the politicians want to put the hand on the oil and the ordinary Zambian not benefiting so on this matter i respect levy will make a wise decision and for those of you you dont know usa already knows about the oil through their ka embassy in lusaka.

  5. levy is just playing games with zambians, there is no oil in zambia……..his just behaving the the cronies before him…. remember the days of KK and other who said there was oil they discovered in plants or grass. cummon!!!!

  6. Oil and gas discovery in Northwestern province is good news, but what is exactly happening. Are you not excited about it? Our country is in dire need of both. What are the quantities like?

  7. there is no oil or gas in chavuma pliz. They wil take that advantage in da next election 2010 to be specific.Mwalishalila pa zed.

  8. Remember ,they LPM Asosele pali oil na gas lintu kwali ama by-elections ,He will wait until 2010 for that topic to be MMD’s political strg.

  9. I am yet to take a trip to Chavuma and see the oil /gas for myself. Then I will come back to Europe and clinch a deal with top ranking Zambian business men to take over these mines. Truss me!

  10. #9 KK was not wrong to have said oil can be extracted from plants or grass. He only fell short of explaining how, otherwise countries like India are using oil from jathropa, which is a plant, in their quest to solve problem of environment and the ever escalating world oil prices. Brazil is leading the world in the usage of sugarcane. Isn’t that a plant or grass whichever way you define it? And #3, oil is not like copper which you discover today and the following year you are extracting. It takes more time to extract than you can imagine. Ask countries like neighboring Angola or Nigeria, they will tell you how long it took them to be where they are. RESEARCH MAN ….!!!

  11. This is good news, oil can boost our economy lets hope its true oil, we are tired of people telling lies abt oil pa zed trush.

  12. This oil story has been thr 4 a long tym & it luks like govt z n no hurry to exploit it despite the fuel crisis the country z facing.
    Am begining to doubt it

  13. Iwe Chintu bwingi(#15), how long does it take to extract oil, are you saying not in our life time? Then there is no need to talk abou this issue…

  14. Point of correction: the provincial minister was speaking in fugurative language and you need to decipher that message: “Chavuma” is National Assembly Motel. The “drillers” are the “MPs”. The oil is “chibelo”. Could be a prolonged April Fool’s Day joke….

  15. 9, 22, 12 and other doubting thomases, are you really zambiams? can the whole parliament waste time on changing natural gas and oil acts, wake up and open up your eyes. You are the sort of people whi do not appreciate anything zambian.

  16. #22. You did not make any point. That why your name is “Chip”: short for chimpazee. We are trying to give ideas from all angles, both negative and positive. All you can afford to do is attack your your fellow bloggers.

  17. Zambians, now that things are looking up lets go back home and build the country by taking it to new hieghts in terms of mordern infrastructure and technology. Like our counterparts in Rwanda, who have risen above all their troubles and made their country into a haven to be admired by all. Let us use our knowledge and expertise we are currently selling in the diaspora in the name of self development, to build a new Zambia. The change we want begins with our attitudes towards change. Peace and love to all zedians

  18. If this story about oil/gas in the North western province is True.

I should mention clearly to all that let it be in the Hands or the administration of Zambians, atleast the Gov should have some say and Good share of it, not the way some firms have been run by these investors, they r just milking our resources and funds and using us as cheap labour. at the end of it all they benefit a big chank piece of the whole cake.

We tired with such kind of investors.

By the way, there was an oil issue in Western/southen provinces. What has happenned to that? Is there any progress on it?
If not. I wonder about this oil thing in Chavuma/ Northwestern province.
    Nevertheless the economy can boom

  19. By the way, there was an oil issue in Western/southen provinces. What has happenned to that? Is there any progress on it?
Good Question. Answer : Check the history of zambian presidential and By-election elections .

  20. 17. kapaso

today youre talking about ethanol being produced from sugar canes in order to make oil and yet youre 4getting that once they start doing that in zed you’re see the price of suger going up or the shortage of it in the country as mazabuka will concentrate their mind son where the money is…………next youre the same people who will be complaining is future about the idea, think before u open yo mouth

  21. #25 I hope you are not suggesting that Rwanda is far more advanced than Zambia. The Rwandan economy my dear is as big as Malawi’s.

  22. #30 My reference is in regards to their ability to embrace change and development in the face of the nasty genocide that devsted their country. Zambia on the other hand has had relative peace for a long time but lacks the enthusiasim to forge ahead and take the country to a morden state of the 21st centuary. Mind you development is not about the economy but the determination and will to make deams come true. Our government spends the tax earned from the few resources it has, paying the numerous drivers employed to run errands for minister’s wives and driving their children to shopping malls and the like. when infact, the drivers could be more productive if the state had a transport system

  23. CONT’D
that operated on a24/7 basis where they would contribute positively to the general society.

Size is not the issue but the ability to strategise and implement the much needed orderlyness in life by way of ensuring that government officials are given job descriptions and tasks on which they are assesed periodically to determine if they deserve the positions or be replaced for failure to perform.

  24. #30!! one other thing, Rwandan Banks dont keep their money in vaults as is the practice in Zambia they have a viable scheme which allows citizens to own property through loans disbursed to estate developers to do projects on behalf of clients.

  25. For all oil discovery critics just come up with oil exploration companies and explore for oil. Thats the only time you shall tell the truth!!! You are worse off than LEVY… He has facts and samples… Yourselves? Nothing… Nothing…. Do you even know where Chavuma is? You must be ashamed and start working in the same direction as LEVY… AND prove him right!!! no WRONG…

Lets just work hard!!! I am sure you just sit at home and wait for NSHIMA… You have nothing to do!!!

  26. Let us talk about other things …like being part of those who will settle on mars by 2045. There is purified oil there mind you.
