Caritas Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) Livingstone Diocese Coordinator John Mwewa has urged government to
be realistic when dealing with labour matters.
Mr Mwewa said union leaders have been pressurizing government to give an increment to public workers that was in accordance with the prevailing food basket.
He said it was important that government invests in its workforce because it is cardinal in the implementation of most government programmes.
Mr Mwewa noted that the 15 percent salary increment still presented a big margin in meeting basic household food levels.
He said in Livingstone, the food basket stood at K1, 620,000 in March.
Mr Mwewa said in order to meet these needs, there was need for government to look at the issue morally and
give public workers a decent increment that would go a long way in meeting the cost of the food basket.
Meanwhile, the Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) in Kawambwa has supported its National Executive Committee(NEC) for rejecting the 15 percent increment.
CSAWUZ Kawambwa Branch, Mathews Mushibwe commended the executive in a press release to ZANIS in Kawambwa today.
Mr. Mushibwe said the 15 percent increase is a mockery to civil servants hence the support to the NEC for rejecting the increase.
He said NEC should go ahead and fight for the reasonable increment so that its members are compensated for the suffering they went through during the wage freeze and HIPC completion point.
Mr. Mushibwe urged NEC to stick to the 2002 collective agreement which gave members K150, 000.00, K250, 000.00 and K450, 000.00 respectively.
He said his branch has asked NEC not to stand back over housing allowance because this was settled and re-affirmed its support to NEC.
And Mr. Mushibwe warned that his branch is ready to take part in the strike which might be declared by NEC if the reconciliation fails to resolve the salary negotiation stand off.
This is a good thesis for an intellectually driven economic discussion. Lets see what lines up here.
Income, money or other economic gain or return in a given period of time, are usually measured annually. Income may be received by an individual or by an entity, such as a corporation or a government.National income in theory of economics is the total net earned by people of a country in producing the national output of goods and sevices over a period of time. How much have we produced so far?
It’s only logical that at some point GRZ will have to come down to earth & meet these demands ’cause K1, 620,000 for a food basket is way beyond what any civil servant gets per month. And this does not include Transport & accommodation.A bed sitter in Chilenje/Kabwata is K450,000/month a 2 bed roomed hse is K800,000.With K820,000 remaining you don’t need to be a mathematician to know that after removing transport which is no less the K250,000 per month, whats left is not enough for food to get you to the next month end.Now most civil servant earn less than a million.Question is how do the survive????
FTJ died and went to heaven. When he got there he knocked long and hard on the pearly gates. St. Peter came out and asked his name.
You do not know my name? I’M FTJ Chiluba He roared at St. Peter. St. Peter looked at his list and could not find his name. Sorry said St. Peter you’re not on the list.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M NOT ON THE LIST??? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM? As a matter of fact I do, said St. Peter, but your name is not on the list, THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH I’M A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON MY NAME SHOULD BE ON THE LIST. St. Peter tried to explain that it’s not easy to get into heaven, that you have to be good to Kaponyas. When FTJ Chiluba hears this he starts to complain. So St. Peter says
whats you story about man are you normal? most Zambians survive by Gods grace and like EHK said its just a miracle! Look at how other people blow money a night at arcades while a neighbours is striving to find a days meal less than a dollar.Gossh its bad man
Vote for change you can believe in! Vote PF for lower taxes and money in the pocket. Politics should be a clothing line so we can all dress up in its rags …
Much as the food basket keeps going higher and higher, civil Servants should also learn to be productive!they are too lazy and never in the offices most times.maybe Mulongoto might be right coz he knows your attitude Civil servants!
It’s true Nchelelebula,I agree with you.the attitude of civil servants is very bad.muchinje mibile yenu bane!!
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
One thing that I hate about these workers unions in our country is that you’ll never here them urge there members to work harder. belive me ladies and gentle men, if you try to visit a public hospital or the passport office today, you would wish to fire all the workers there. all people should work hard if they want the country to grow.
Africans are lagging behind simply because of their ignorance and laziness. compare the service that you get from a bank in a country like Denmark which isn’t so different to zed in terms of population, you would suspect the workers where born with keyboard in their hands, then come to zed and you’ll just wish a lightening could just strike these m’ther f’ckes. the same applies to all african countries.
Number 10… Africans are not lazy people? the majority of our people are in poverty because our politicians have let us down. for instance our nation zambia? we are less than 13 million and yet the majority of our population is poor? are we lazy people, we simply lack the opportunity or favorable conditions to make us prosper? chiluba alone with his croonies is alleged to have plundered over 33 million US dollars (correct me if iam wrong). imagine we each could have been 3 million dollars richer? you are luckly that you have had the opportunity to live in Denmark, it is up to you and me to assist our country folk to have the same opportunity. we are not lazy people….?
