Jacob Mulenga has begun training with the Zambia national team despite his continued recovery from a facial injury.

Mulenga, of French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, arrived at the Zambia training camp in Lusaka on Monday and trained with the team later that same day.

The striker sustained the injury three weeks ago at Strasbourg and was advised to take a 20-day break from all football activities.

Should Mulenga make the team for Sundays 2010 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland, he will have to play with a facial mask.

And Zambia coach Herve Renard is set to name his 18-man team to face Swaziland on June 15 on Thursday on the eve of the teams departure for Swaziland.

Meanwhile, Zambia will play a training game against City of Lusaka at Woodlands stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

And Zambia are expected to depart for Manzini on Friday at 07:20 via Johannesburg.

-Power Dynamos and Zambia national soccer team left-winger Kennedy Mudenda has been ruled out of action due to malaria.

Mudenda was absent from the sides 2-0 away win over bottom placed Chambishi in a Faz Premier League Week 12 game last Saturday.

“He is not well and has malaria that is why he did not play and we left him out of the team,” Power head coach Fodson Kabole said.

And Kabole has been handed a one-match ban from the bench after he was sent off by referee Grant Kumwenda of Lusaka during Power’s game against Chambishi.

Kabole was sent off in the 82nd minute of the game and will be in the stands when Power hosts promoted Green Eagles this weekend in a Week 13 game in Kitwe.

He said after the match that he was dismissed for allegedly stepping outside his area while discussing a tactical issue with one of his players.

Power are 7th on the Premier League table following their win over Chambishi on 18 points, 4 points behind leaders Green Buffaloes after 12 matches played.

– And in Rugby, Zimbabwe will host Senegal in Lusaka instead of Harare on July 12 in the 2 sides 2011 Rugby World Cup Group A qualifier.

The International Rugby Board has asked the Zambia Rugby Football Union to host Zimbabwe’s home game due to unstable political situation in that country.

  1. Jacob is a gud striker. I really feel if given a chance in a starting lineup he can do wonders and even katongo c can hve a chance to score since defenders will concetrate on jacob.

  2. You’re right #1.Jacob is a dedicated player who wants to prove to the new coach that he’s a responsible person with or without injury.Mbesuma was told that he’s agood player but has to shed off some weight, this means he still has room in the national team ,but ,if he decides to stay away, he’s just creating room for our upcoming players who at the moment are better than him.

  3. I think for now lets forget about Mbesuma and concentrate on the palyers we have. We have enough players who can do a thorough job upfront. We have C Katongo, Chamanga, J Mulenga, E Mayuka and R Kola. Mbesuma first should gain high fitness level and then he can be considered for future matches. This does not mean that he will never play for the national team again. Of course he will if he wants himself. He has to prove himself to the coach and the Zambian soccer fraternity that he has what it takes.
My only worry is defence and the midfield. We wait to see what will happen in these qualifications.

  4. Can someone tell me the status of Mulenga’s team Strasbourg. Are they still in French ligue 1 or were they relegated. The last time i checked French ligue 1 table, they were second from the bottom.
when are we going to see our own zed guys in renowned teams like Man u, Chelsea, arsenal and the like?.That can improve our game & can be an encouragement to our upcoming youngstars.

Good luck chipolopolo, hammer the Mswati boys, baiche sana kuli ifwe.

  5. GO GO ZAMBIA WE ARE JUST WINING THE MSWATI BOYS. ALL THE BEST CHRS & JACOB EVEN MAYUKA IN THE FRONT LINE. WE ARE JUST TOPING THE TABLE THIS TIME AROUND

  6. pipo read the today’s daily mail on the sports page.squard shocker:
some national team players are allegedly engaging in sexual immorality.
with this kind of behaviour in camp? i’m afraid we heading for a fall in swaziland.zambia will lose because our players are fond of sex.instead of seeing the ball they wil be seing prostitutes watching them.
tell me do our players really have a displinaly commitee?
    i’m very annoyed.

  7. Zambian players are engaging into sex instead of training.we will beat you guys.atlest a 4 to 0 .by the way we have properly trained sex workers here.as you come on friday ,we will send these prostitutes so that they keep you busie untill the match is over.
that is what we did to togolies as well.we wil humiliate you!!!!

  8. Our team needs to take the game against Swaziland seriously, I don’t think Swaziland is a team to underrrate, they are just as good as any other team and and can surpise us if we dont approach the game with the seriousness it desreves, so the boys have to be extra serious with the coming games.

  9. #4 strasbourg were relegated to ligue 2. Jacob is a good fighter on the pitch but he doesnt have a good eye for goal. To unsettle the swazi defence he’l be a good bet but for goals chamanga or mayuka are the lads to play alongside chris.

  10. #12 that a good question. #1 answer this question, who told the swazi defence will concentrate on Mulenga J?

#7, 8 and 11, your brains need to be examined. You are intellectually challenged. Seek pychatric help.

  11. if what is in the daily mail paper is true then it is a sad story, coz that means that we will be beaten.but if is false then their is hope at the end of the tunnel.i think it wont be easy to beat swaziland unless we go at full throttle in all departments.if we score first we will stand a better chance to carry the day.

  12. Squad shocker!

    By VICTOR MWITWA

SOME national team players have been accused of engaging in immorality ahead of this Sunday’s 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland.

The players are said to have taken to serious beer drinking and womanising at a named hotel where they are camped.

Insiders told the Daily Mail in Lusaka yesterday that a number of prostitutes who line-up near the hotel have made a fortune by rendering their services to some players.

“Since the players went into camp last week the prostitutes have been making thousands if not millions of Kwacha from the players. The players go out to pick prostitutes after 23:00 hours when senior team

  13. To # 4, it dosen’t matter whether Mulenga plays for a Ligue 1 or ligue 2, atleast he is playing in top flight soccer. Before the close of the season I was watching him play. even though they got relegated they are a descent side.
Egypt won the AFCON with only three european based players and none of them play for the so called big teams, so lets appreciate what we have than wanting what we don’t have end of story!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. The players go out to pick prostitutes after 23:00 hours when senior team officials are asleep.

“Why engage in prostitution when we have a crucial game against Swaziland on Sunday? These activities could make the players tired and fail to deliver in Mbabane. We are tired of this behaviour and we thought that we should bring it to the attention of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) through the press,” said one worker at the hotel.

  15. ‘Shakes’: Bring on Zambia!
    BY THAMI PHAKATHI

    (At Somhlolo Stadium)

LOBAMBA – Forget about Zambia’s feared striker Chris Katongo: the nation’s pride coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba badly wants to win Sunday’s game.

Interviewed after yesterday’s pulsating training session at the Somhlolo Stadium, the South African born coach said they would leave no stone unturned in their bid to annex the maximum points at stake.

“It’s a must win game for us. We need to win it at all costs to make sure we proceed. It is true that the further you go in this competition the tougher the games get. But we are working hard with the players and we know what our opponents are up to,” he said.

  16. #18 continued:

Mashaba said pressure was on Zambia to make up for their loss against Togo two weeks ago.

“We know they will come hard on us, as they need the points at stake but we are aware of what they are planning. We are determined to fight and the players are fighting hard at training to make sure Zambia is demolished on Sunday. We need to work on a number of areas ahead of the game and there is no time for rest now,” he said.

  17. #
Mashaba who led Sihlangu to the stunning 2-1 victory against the feared Togo last Sunday said: “Just like Togo so is Zambia. They are known to have a number of good players who play abroad but in football the trick is that its not who you have but it’s what that player can do. We are not playing against names here but opponents who are equally capable like us.

“Some of these players like Katongo are good; he scored 15 goals in South Africa in half a season. Chansa also recently scored five goals in one game in his team so we are aware of what they are capable of doing. We are not going to be intimidated by their history but we’ll work hard to improve our game to outwit them,” he said.

  18. # 20 continued:

The squad resumed training yesterday and all the players were seen hard at work with the exception of striker Welile Maseko, who watched from the sidelines after arriving late from school. Striker Phinda Dlamini limped off the field midway through the sessions after injuring his foot while taking a shot at goal.

  19. Guys…
    what is this…..
    Notable absentees from the travelling contingent include;
Rainford Kalaba (Zesco United), the young man did not report for camp after he was called and Renard suggested that Kalaba could have his head in the clouds following his move to Europe this winter.

take note of the spelling spot not sport.

  20. real stars fight to represent their countries….Beckam,ronaldo,essien,kanu..the list can go on.that boy is one of those when they fall they really fall.

  21. No.12 and 13. If u never played futubo b4 in ur life its very unfornate. jacob definately will give them alot of problems upfront. This will make those mswati boys to keep an eye on Jacob. This will make chriss and mayuka loose marked and we ‘ll see goals

  22. #24 Have you watched this game already? The match will be played on Sunday. Come on do not be a prophet of doom. Grow up. What if the Swazi will keep an eye on Chamanga or Chris. The thing is we dont know who they will mark solidly. All we know is that they will be strong and hard to beat going by what they have been saying in the press. Ba # 24 naimwe mulekwata amano. Thats why you know nothing going by your name, katwishi.
