The office of the Movement for Democratic Change-MDC Office in South Africa has petitioned Southern Africa Development Community (SADC ) Chairman President Levy Mwanawasa to act with impulsion so as to enable democratic change prevails in Zimbabwe.
MDC South Africa Chairman, Malcom Mutandiro who led a six-man delegation to present the petition yesterday through the Zambia High Commission Chancery in Pretoria said the MDC in conjunction with civil societies, Xenophobia victims, political and economic refugees in South Africa are frustrated and have lost confidence in South African President Thabo Mbeki’s mediation efforts in as far as the situation in Zimbabwe is concerned.
In the petition, Mr. Mutandiro said the MDC office appreciates the efforts made by President Mwanawasa towards resolving the political problems being faced in Zimbabwe
The party however accused President Mbeki of playing double standards and taking partisan position in his role as mediator.
The petition titled ‘deterioration of political crisis in Zimbabwe was received by Mtotola Nyanga on behalf of Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Leslie Mbula.
This is contained in a press statement to ZANIS by Zambia High Commission to South Africa Second Secretary in charge of Press, Phillip Chirwa.
Mr. Mutandiro alleged that since the elections of 2000, 2002. 2005 and the recent March 29, 2008 elections, President Mbeki has just been watching the rapid deterioration of the situation in Zimbabwe with a blind eye and lack of interest.
The MDC South Africa Chairman pointed out that the people of Zimbabwe have not known peace and good governance for generations and that since the end of colonial rule the crisis of governance has reached a new level under a black regime.
“After the disputed elections of 2000 our regional body, SADC appointed President Mbeki as mediator. It is unfortunate that the continued deterioration of both political and economical situation in Zimbabwe seems to be going unabated whilst the so called mediator appears to condone the Mugabe regime’ intolerable behaviour through his actions and speeches he has made since this current crisis,” noted Mr. Mutandiro.
He cited President Mbeki’s statement that there was no crisis in Zimbabwe and his alleged lobbying for a government of national unity whilst a constitutional electoral process is pending as some of the disappointing statements.
He alleged President Mbeki has not made a statement on President Mugabe ‘s stand that he was not prepared to hand over power to the opposition.
He further pointed out that promises to both regional and international leaders have been made that the issue of Zimbabwe would be resolved within six months by President Mbeki but that it was now 8 years without any solution.
“President Mbeki might have his own personal views about President Morgan Tsvangirayi of which he is democratically entitled to but the fact of the matter is that he has no right whatsoever to determine the will of the people of Zimbabwe,” pointed out Mr. Mutandiro.
He noted that the period towards the Presidential runoff of 27th June has seen innocent Zimbabweans tortured, some killed, homes burnt and MDC President Tsvangirayi unlawfully arrested.
He pointed out that the MDC was not against a government of National Unity but wondered why there was no called for this type of government when Mr. Mugabe robbed the elections in 2000, 20002 and 2005.
He also wondered what the purpose of the election process enshrined in the Zimbabwean constitution was if election results are not respected.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mutandiro said the liberation struggle was not about creation of a monarchy in Zimbabwe but that it was about freeing the majority from the oppression of the minority.
The MDC South Africa Chairman pointed out that every Zimbabwean participated in the liberation struggle in different role and that it is a shameful that a Black Nationalist clique is using its guerilla war credentials to lay claim as the sole and legitimate heir to political power in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Mutandiro said Mr. Mugabe was not in order to claim that he is the sole and legitimate heir to the political power and continuing holding the people of Zimbabwe at ransom.
He called upon the Mugabe regime to immediately stop acts of violence, killings, torture, rape abductions and arrest of MDC activists and leadership.

One step forward, two steps backwards. Lord have mercy on Arica.
I feel for you my Zimbabwean brothers and sisters.
I hope your country is rid of this tyrant Mugabe.
I hope LPM does something to help your country.
It is too bad Zambia is not as powerful as South Africa. We would have done something if it was.
Everything is in Gods hands now.
An offer of $200 Million awaits anyone with courage to arrest and chain Mugabe. the chap has trouble all Zimboz except the party thugs. when arrested, Mugabe will be made to clean allthe public toilets from 6am to 6pm everyday and will only be having one meal in two days. anyone with courage to acomplish this work should get in touch with ME on: arrestmugabe@to_stop_his_madness.com
yes lets arrest mugabe, all has been done to redeem our Zim friends but in vain, now a swift arrest of Mugabe and locking him up in iron chains will do.
yes LPM is the only one whose efforts can make an impact. But we should support him when he acts on impulse as requested. Mike Mulongoti and Tetamashimba should be ready to speak out when Mugabe’s minions respond to attck LPM. I know Mike Mulongoti is quick at this as well as Teta.
Again, the MDC want forces from abroad to help them out. Where is the mass movement inside Zimbabwe? They can make all the excuses they want, but they do not have the support of the majority of the population.
There is no groundswell of public opinion inside Zimbabwe that wants to be rid of president Robert Mugabe, irrespective of the protestations from the western media, or the misery visited on the Zimbabwean economy by the west, to put the MDC into power.
And now they are trying to play SADC against itself – Mbeki against Mwanawasa. I am not impresses by the MDC.
” The MDC South Africa Chairman pointed out that every Zimbabwean participated in the liberation struggle in different role and that it is a shameful that a Black Nationalist clique is using its guerilla war credentials to lay claim as the sole and legitimate heir to political power in Zimbabwe. ”
Not nearly as shameful as the turncoats who want to see the return of white hegemony in the economy. The MDC do not only want to return land to the white minority, they want to sell off Zimbabwean parastatals to western corporations.
For the MDC, bwana knows best. So how dare they talk about a ‘Black Nationalist clique’?
We have alwayz been ready to speak out in support and defence of President Levy P. Mwanawasa. We are just waiting for the president to cough and you will see how we will tear down ka Mugabe. Na katumpa sana ka mudala.
Mugabe does not deserve freedom any more. He must be caged without delay.
People in Zim and much of SADCC leaders hate Mugabe but also cannot fathom having the “MDC white boolickers” taking over. They are hoping the military or someone within Zanu hammers Robert.
Tsangvirai is a joke, today he will go for a re-run, tomorrow he says no, it’s obvious he is getting instructions from elsewhere.
And also, the behaviour of Biti and other MDC officials is treasonable worldwide. Like it or not, there is a sitting government and constitution in Zimbabwe, you cannot be flying out and exposing sensitive government documents abroad and return expecting a heroes welcome!
STATE HOUSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is 222222222222222222222 sweettttttttttttttttttttttt bob cant leave if he leaves who will buy hid drinks from UK the fool is a cloun he has spoiler the name of AFRICA pls let us also do some thing to get this fool out of his sweet seat at state house
Guys hang on, remember When the US-controlled UN imposed sanctions on zimbabwe, their aims where to make life hard for the zimbabwen population, weren’t they?? Oh yes you know it… But then, why do they want to play heroes all of a sadden?
#10, you are showing your shallow grasp on the matter mate. The document was authored by the MDC, it wasnt Govt document. Get this in your head and lets start bloging again.
Given the situation the Zimbos find themselves in, I would rather MDC with its imperialist relatives takes over that have a thug run the show and steal, rape, maim, kill, torch down houses and grind the place to hell. I dont careless but RGM MUST be moved out of Zim.
number 13 iam of the same view…… atleast MDC will end the mayhem…..
Plz Bush send ur troops 2 cage mugabe or let bin ladin send his men to state house and clear mugabe.
God answers prayer(s0, Zimbabweans. Just hang in there, my President LPM will surely do something.
Watch the space.
MDC petition-I hope this is not the reason Levy is calling for the Press conference.
If he calls for the conference I would like him to remind the zimbos to go back in numbers to vote in Zimbabwe instead of running aways and hope a miracle will happen to remove BOB from power. Let them go and vote, and set themselves free..
Atleast zimbos have lent that its gud to be gud to yo neighbours when things are bad with ther coutry.Any uncle bob is following our SMALL THING KING FREDthat power is sweet. But levy and zambia s have been insulted by these zimbos so Idont may be he should help since he is bold and couragous like the way he sorted out ka CHILUBA.Go LPM yu are a lawyer.
Mugabe is the puppet. He has no power. The country is being run by the Army chiefs and Police chief. The only hope is for a militery coup within the forces or military pressure from outside.
“God has put me their and only he can remove me” I think that says it all.”The MDC will never ever ever rule Zimbabawe” People can you see what sort of person this is.I dont think Mbeki has failed, its just we are dealing with a FOOL.
Come on Zambians, we are not going to support imperialist forces that run MDC are we? After seeing that the children of imperialism have obtained our land in all areas with rich agr. soil like Mkushi and our mines now they want to add Zim to their list of enslaved states!
We must not let Zim drift to become like Zambia where the citizens have lost everything to imperialist via their weak minded LPM.
I would rather support MDC.
At least you would have taken away a heartless tyrant like Mugabe.
Besides, who said the MDC will rule forever. They rule for like 4 to 5 years (i dont know how long a term is in Zimbabwe).
Better imperialists than heartless dictators. What kind of so called hero fighting imperialists beats and rapes the same people he is fighting for.
GO MDC. I pray you win.
#21 Good point my brother. Very soon Zambia will be like Zimbabwe. Imagine one white person owning land from airport Lusaka to Kabwe and he is not a zambian. Can u go to USA or Britain and own even a garden? Impossible. However, there should be change in Zimbabwe i.e. at least Mugabe should go and someone else should take over.
Zimbos should solve their own problems. If it means demos let them do them, if it means riots, let them go ahead. We did that ourselves, let them do it as well without depending on others.
#19. I am not a puppet. I control all these generals and police chiefs. What I don’t want is the MDC to take over from me. I will make sure I crush them.
Comrade Army Commander In chief the Big Five, Robert Mugabe should be hanged until a qualified Doctor from MDC pronounces him dead.He thinks he is a STAR, he should leave plot 1 for young ones like the Morgans of MDC.Zim should leave our Sc Dr. Levy P. Mwanawasa alone, they should not involve him in there cheap and very domestic politics.
# 21 & 23,
So what if MDC is aligned to the west. Would you rather they aliged to the east ?. It dosent matter as long as rule of law is repected.
One thing for certain though, the west controls all money institutions. For Zim to be let back into the fold, they will have to address the little problem of grabing land from zimbabweans based on the colour of their skin. Hitlar done that with the jews and look what happened to him.
Its funny. Weather Zimbabwe becomes a sovereign nation, it will still depend on the west. Weather Mugabe twinges and cries and does all sorts of things, the fact is Zimbabwe will still be dependent on the west.
Reason, right now the whole world is feeling the effects of rising oil prices. We all felt these during the oil shocks in the 70’s. So i guess it is safe to say the world runs on OIL.
Now OPEC will never accept Zim dollar for its OIL. They accept US DOLLAR and some countries have shifted to the Euro and Yen due to lack of faith in the failing US DOLLAR.
For Zim to be able to avoid hyper inflation due to rising expenses because of either the hike in oil prices or shortages in oil,
cont…
It’ll need to buy OIL and for it to buy OIL it needs US DOLLARS, EUROS or YENS. For it to obtain these currencies, it’ll need to trade in goods and services with (guess who) the WEST (Big bad white man).
Now before people tell me “it was trading with SA” Lets not forget where the Tobacco and other minerals where going. Yes the west.
Unless Zimbabwe can convince OPEC or Angola to accept Zim Dollar or SA RAND, Pretty much, they’ll still depend on the west.
To sum it up, they dont call it the Petrol Dollar for nothing.
#27. I am not saying MDC should not take over. I fully support MDC but what I don’t support is giving land back to whites. They can have a portion of it but not where one foreigner has land from lusaka to kabwe.
Land, Land, Land! In all countries where settlers have conquered, the locals have always been made to evaporate with time. Look ate all countries where settlers were allowed to take the land, where are the real owners? In the US, see all those reservations, and alcoholics? In Australia, see all those poor blacks with nothing? In most of Latin America, where are the real owners?
This is the vision that the MMD, MDC have for Zed and Zim.
Pamberi ne Chimurenga! Pansi Imperialism! Long Live Comrade Mugabe, May Tongogara’s Soul Rest In Peace!!
well, for who ever takes over Zim its either play ball with the west or be blocked of development and go back to stone age development Like Zaire.
Without oil in Zim Not even china or india will intervane were the west are putting spaners in all money institutions.
The white Zimbabweans know this, they will be compansated for land lost. And who are the true losers ? The Black breathrean of Zim, who in thir millions are fleeing even risking being roasted in SA. Mugabe did not have a plan D for the mismangment of the country. He picked the wrong fight, full land redistribution as oppossed to partial land redistribution for the sake of the economy. By all eventualities he could be indicted
Hello big brother BUSH and RICE, can u hear me guys???????Pls send some troops to come and kick ***s in zimbabwe.Mugabe is giving people hell here…muchiponone sssaaannnnaaa sana chi robert.
Hello big brother BUSH and RICE, can u hear me guys???????Pls send some troops to come and kick ***s in zimbabwe.Mugabe is giving people hell here…muchiponone sssaaannnnaaa sana chi robert!
At least our president – Dr Mwanawansa has the bottle to voice out the obvious problems in Zimbabwe which all SADC leaders are aware of but conviniently have kept silent. SHAME ON THAMBO MBEKI – His comments or lack of it is shameful for Southern Africa.
Robert mugabe and is wife must leave state house.even by force if it has to be applied for the mugabes to understand that there time is up.mrs mugabe has even got the guts to say they will never allow any opposition to rule zimbabwe, they will vote and vote until ZANU-PF is declared victorious, what ever they call there party, what type of leadership is this.mugabe and his wife hav got no heart for the zimbabweans, they think they own zimbabwe.zimbabwe belongs to the zimbabweans and not his[Roberts]family.kuya bebele!
#2 Mr Crazy, it is really difficult to follow your contributions bcoz we see paragraphs on every sentence you make. Did you jump G6. It is importnat you go back to g6 to learn more about paragaphs making. FOR YOU ON GOOD BWANA!!!
#23 & #30 You are liars.Tell us the Name of that foreigner who owns land from Lusaka to Kabwe.Did he get it illegally? Mind you being Zambian does mean you have to be Black. For instance Galaunia,he is as much Zambian as you are, assuming you are zambians.
#25 ulichipuba. If Mugabe is your f**king relative , go to hell. One person cannot keep us busy. We have so many things to to in terms of development.
Let Mugabe be hanged or fished out like Saddam. Americans where are you? We need u to help us smoke out this tyrant.
Personally i dont sympathise with the Zimbos. After all they dont feel the pinch at all.Look for instance at #31.With them everything is fine. They want land at all costs.Even those who have no use for it want it badly just for prestige.Otherwise they could have risen in masses to get rid of RGM.
nobody can refuse free land.
#41, you are right. But BOMBEKI, these guys have huge farms and also gave some to the Army chiefs, lots of confusion that side.
Bob is never honest no matter what may.Remember he sent his ill malnurished soldiers to go help Kabila in Congo and looted alot of minerals from there even nelata lya pa toilet he had take and what more he went on asking for compensation from the young Joe Kabila to pay back all what he had spent on his army that he willingly sent there without anyone asking him to do so.Iam sure this is what he is asking Bo Thabo Mbeki to pay back what Bob contributed to have Thabo favoured as president over the much people favoured candidate Ceril Ramphosa. You umugoregore when he sell you barva pa nkogole whether you are sick on death bed he will not go until he takes something in return.Thats the typical
If Morgan cannot stand up to Mugabe he should not be president. If he truly thinks he won the election and got the majority vote he should organize the masses to follow him…oh sorry I forgot he tried that and it failed. If you cannot find reason to die for your country you should emigrate.
As for LPM’s “intervention” its a complete waste of time, Zambia has no military, political or economic capacity to have any bearing on the Zim crisis. SADC (South Africa and Developing Countries) is at the mercy of SA.
What can we do to Zim? People talking of a military intervention should send their children to fight for Zim if they believe so strongly. Unlike Z they have an army capable of fighting
Some of you here want to behave as though you are power ranges who do not fear a thing.Just a catapult aimed you would scare the living out of you.Why should there be violence when all people want to do is to exercise their right through the ballot? If Mugabe really thinks he can win this why should he unleash his *****ic henchmen and fake ass war veterans on innocent people. How is he going to preside over an impoverished and maimed population? Why do we allow African leaders to become so greedy and blind?Enough of Mugabe.Whether Morgan is a puppet of the west or not, change in Zim is long over-due and just plainly inevitable.
