Some prominent members of the opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) in Northern Province have welcomed the formation of a revive UNIP forum.
Former UNIP Mungwi District Chairperson Thomas Mwananshiku said in a walk in interview with ZANIS in Kasama today that the majority of UNIP members fully supports the formation of the revive UNIP forum as it will save the party from extinction.
Mr. Mwananshiku said the move by the Malimba Masheke group was long over due as the party under the Tilyenji Kaunda leadership was heading no where.
He also charged that UNIP members were in total agreement that the Tilyenji leadership was running the party unconstitutionally as their mandate ended in 2005 when their term of office expired.
Mr. Mwananshiku who is also a freedom fighter further said his party needed to put in office a new leadership as the current one has failed lamentably to manage the affairs of the party.
Recently, three former faction of UNIP merged to come up with the revive UNIP forum which is being headed by former Prime Minister in the Kaunda Government General Malimba Masheke.
The forum’s main objective is to hold the national congress within a shortest possible time at which it intend to oust the Tilyenji Kaunda leadership.
UNIP is the oldest party in Zambia .
ZANIS/HM/MK/ENDS.
What are the contact numbers for the UNIP revivalists? I am interested in this party for it gave birth to Zambia, lost power to the apartheid supported MMD with innuendo and dirty tricks from the West. This is one of the reasons Mugabe is not willing to hand over to Morgan’s MDC. Traitors like Chiluba need to be in jail instead of formenting disorder now with the citizensdemocraticparty.
Isn’t Malimba Masheke FDD?
UNIP is resurrecting and is now seeing the Light at the end of the dunnel since Rupiah Banda is in-charge of the affairs of the country! haha hehe hihi awi!
It seems UNIP allows dual membership meaning a person can belong to UNIP and another party if they so wish. It seems General Masheke is both UNIP and FDD, RB is both UNIP and MMD, Chinkuli is both MMD and UNIP, Ross Banda is both UNIP and MMD, Hon Mukondo Lungu V/Chairman of Parliament is UNIP and MMD, NCC Chairman is FDD, MMD and UNIP, Mwangala Zalomous is UNIP and MMD, Nelly Muti is MMD, FDD and UNIP. It is for these reasons why UNIP is ever confused becozi its Members suffer from identity problems
obviously you are anti UNIP you must have been one of them chiluba minions. (Its me says) vent my countryman vent let it out its tough being a once apon a time chiluba goonie. REALITY check …UNIP can be revived.
1. Zambia first,
” This is one of the reasons Mugabe is not willing to hand over to Morgan’s MDC. Traitors like Chiluba need to be in jail instead of formenting disorder now with the citizensdemocraticparty. ”
One positive sign is that the ideology of neoliberalism is being exposed for the economic fraud that it is, worldwide. The IMF has never developed a single country with it’s austerity measures, like eliminating social spending on education and healthcare; ‘privatising’ national companies so that western corporations can buy them up on the cheap; and throwing open national markets to heavily subsidized western goods.
The MDC is neoliberal to the core.
Zambian voters needs at least one real alternative to the neoliberal ideology of the MMD, UPND, PF, etc. So until these parties change ideology, UNIP is it.
Tsvangirai is just lining up to become the next Frederick Chiluba.
No 1 dont be the judge that party you are backing about is no longer there.
Masheke ,where do you belong?
After having seen what MMd brought to the table especially when Chiluba was in power,UNIP has every reason to believe that the party can be revived because Chiluba wasted those years.
Chiluba will go down in Zambia’s History as the worst president of all time.
The Westerners had no reason not to give the MMD money in 1991 and that money overwhelmed everyone including Mr Chiluba.
Stand up UNIP you biult everything and show these polital party that you an old giant resurrecting.
How do I join UNIP? Are there some Bloggers on this list with contact details on how to contact UNIP for membership? I am fed up of seeing my country being raped right, left, centre and on all stop signs! We must get our country back! We must rebuild it and put in place regulations to ensure that minimum standards are identified across all sectors as bench marks and build from there. We need a country that works and not talking and signing documents as work!!
# 11. Your best bet i would think, of joining UNIP forum would be to go to freedom house down town, that is if it has not yet been sold by TJ Kaunda, and ask around how to get membership it should not matter at this point who you get the membership from because at the end of the day once TJ and his cowboys ride out into the sunset there will only be one UNIP to contest the elections hence ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.
Keep in mind from my understanding this revival UNIP is not out there to try and fragment UNIP, its aim is to Unite the party. TJ and his cowboys if they so do desire to turn back from the sunset and ride back into town to a new Sheriff should be welcome.
What defines a Party is not just the name or the individuals carrying membership cards, but rather its idealogy. I note that most of these new so called parties lack idealogical identity while clinging to catchy acronyms as if those alone will define their essence and goals.UNIP was as clearly distinct from A.N.C. as it was from Mundia’s U.P. and later Kapwepwe’s U.P.P. UNIP is now suffering from lack of seasoned and focused leadership rather than idealogical or philosophical direction. Thus if properly revamped it poses the greatest challenge to the status quo and its potential for mass appeal is just as viable. Pay attention all you other power players!
IzPower IzPower IzPower,
Right on. The Zambian political scene needs at least one UNIP, to counterbalance all the neoliberal followers. I’ll never understand why there is so little ideological diversity on the scene. Obviously, the people are not being served by an ideology that benefits corporations only – and western corporations at that.
