Wednesday National Team Update

Share

The Zambia national team is to set up a 10-day training camp in Germany next month.

Faz media liaison officer Erick Mwanza confirmed Zambia’s scheduled European training camp that will start on August 15 and end on the 24th.

Mwanza said Zambia will during their camping period in Germany play two training matches against one yet to be named Bundesliga side and another with a 2.Bundesliga team.

One of the matches against the 2.Bundesliga club will be played on August 20.

He said talks were still on-going with a major Bundesliga side over the second training game.

Zambia will use their Germany training camp to prepare for their final 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier on September 6 at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.

Zambia coach Herve Renard has named his final 20-man squad for this Sundays Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup quarterfinal clash against Zimbabwe at Secunda in South Africa.

The team includes two returns, prime of which is that of veteran defender Elijah Tana of Nchanga Rangers after he was dropped for the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup final squad in January due to poor form.

Defender Clive Hachilensa too has received a recall for the first time since the Africa Cup finals.

First choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars in South Africa has earned a late recall after he was earlier excused for the Cosafa Cup outing.

Mweene’s inclusion means there is no place for any of the two local goalkeepers, William Chibale of Lusaka Dynamos and Green Buffaloes’ Mike Poto.

Poto and Chibale however, will continue to train with Zambia until the team departs for South Africa this Friday.

As expected, Power Dynamos striker Francis Kombe is in the team and will be hoping to impress Renard in the Frenchman’s 6th international match in charge.

Kombe currently leads the scorers charts on 8 league goals for both City of Lusaka and Power since the start of the season in March.

Meanwhile, Renard has also given a senior debut to two Under-20 players with most prominent being Zanaco midfielder Henry Banda.

Banda has struggled to find rhythm at Zanaco where he has played less than 10 matches all from the bench since joining from Kabwe Warriors this season.

The midfielder exploded onto the scene at warriors last year with one Emmanuel Mayuka who is also in the team and both had good Cosafa Youth Cup outings last year despite the Under-20 teams 1st round exit from the tournament also held in Mpumalanga.

However, Banda’s two impressive displays with the Under-20 team the sides Rwanda 2009 Africa Youth Cup 1st round qualifiers against Mauritius were enough to convince Renard of the teenagers potential.

City of Lusaka midfielder Morgan Kaoma is the other Under-20 player handed a debut senior call-up.

Young Arrows defender White Simwanza of Young Arrows returns since scoring an own-goal away in a 1-0 loss against Botswana on May 2 in an Ivory Coast 2009 Africa Nations Championship 1st round qualifier.

Zambia fly out from Lusaka to Johannesburg on Friday ahead of Sunday’s quarterfinal match against Zimbabwe in Mpumalanga.

Team:

Goalkeepers: Kalililo Kakonje (Amazulu, South Africa), Kennedy Mweene (Free StateStars, South Africa)

  1. Renard, make up your mind!!! Just the other day you were quoted as saying “Tana can not play at this level!” What is this, a failure to communicate?

  2. We really need sichone, sinkala, mishek lungu and mbesuma
Against Togo. Pa zed we have world class players but we keep on ignoring them and prefer local players just bcoz amwesa 8 goals in our weak league. Call all pros to Gemany dontake local players only

  3. #2 APPRECIATE THE EFFORTS THE GOVT AND FAZ ARE MAKING TO PREPARE THE NATIONAL TEAM FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME AGAINST TOGO AT KONKOLA, IF THE TEAM WILL STAY IN ZAMBIA FOR THE PREPARATIONS , U WILL BE THE FIRST ONE TO CRITICISE , BY COMPARING WITH WHAT OTHER NATIONAL TEAMS MAY BE DOING,FAILURE TO PREPARE FOR ANYTHING-IS PREPARING FOR FAILURE.EVEN IF THEY ARE SPENDING TAX-PAYERS MONEY,LET THEM GO ,DONT BE LIKE A FATHER WHO FAILS TO SEND HIS CHILD TO SCHOOL BCOS IT INVOLVES MONEY.

  4. #7 & #8 Guys you just saved #2’s ass, I was almost castrating him. The boys deserve to go out and experience something more than Barclay’s Bank sports complex, and playing fellow club mates. But this does not mean the training they are doing at home isn’t enough, its always good and much needed. And praise the FAZ.

  5. Don’t just call for the inclusion of some players because you recall seeing them play well 10 years ago. On what basis are you (# 6) calling for the inclusion of Mbesuma et al?

  6. Indeed failure to plan is planning to fail. Let’s not make a habit of trying to fatten the cow on the day of the market. You don’t wait unti you are thirsty before you start digging a well.

  7. Sinkala and Sichone are both out of form as they have not played competitive football for some time, the last I heard about them they were clubless. If they were still good how come their clubs let them go? Maybe consideration could be given to those in other leagues like Finland. If we keep thinking about the past how come noone is saying we should recall Denis Lota, Gift Kampamba, Bubble Kangwa etc? These were good players in their time. Mbesuma was recalled last time and he refused to turn up and did not even have the guts to say why he did not turn up. Past is past lets look to the future and wish our current team the best. Well done Faz 4 organising the trip to Germany.

  8. Anyone advocating for Mbesuma Sinkala etc are stupid. Sinkala was sick and has not plyed for a while. Mbesuma has a bum knee no team wants him, what are you basing your argument on?

Egypt has no pros on the team playing outside their country apart form Mida who has been dropped. AFCON CHampions! The point here calling pros and camping outside the counrty is not the solution to win. WE need as local structure to improve our soccer standards and eventually produce quality players.

So let us keep our expectations realistic!

  9. At least the Zed team will have Fanta & Sausage for a few days before returning home to the usual diet of kapenta and beans.

  10. fine… sichone is club less but he managed to score great goals last season and he deserves a call up.sinkala has just found a new club were he impressed them to much y cnt u just give the guys chance, wat is it that they have done to this country.sichone, sinkala and my self collins are better than kola, clive and chintu,,worse of all kennedy nketani u remeber them along with my self

  11. i guess MBESUMA is still trying to loose weight!!!poor boy alikwisa nokuba ulya muntu kanshi?!!!!!!

  12. If these Sichones are that good, Why do they keep changing Clubs. If holding on to past glory will improve the National team then let us recall Malitoli Bothers , Dennis Lotas Gift Kampamba.etc If these chaps are good and they only play Div 2 why do clubs keep letting them go ?
    What a boring topic!
    Makula period!!

  13. The truth is that mbesuma, sinkala, sichone and misheck are better players at the moment than kola, kombe, chintu, kasonde and clive and even sunzu. When are going 2a senior national team not a makeshift all the time?

  14. What i mean by having a senior natinal team and a makeshift nationalteam is that we
Need a team that have senior and world class players e.g sinkala, mbesuma, sichone, misheck,Tana, Miti,c.katongo. F.katongo,chansa,j.musonda,mweene,mayuka,kola and hachipuka

  15. Free training trip for Chipolopolo
    By Kennedy Gondwe
    BBC Sport, Lusaka

The German government has offered to pay for Zambia’s national team to train in Germany for 10 days next month.

The trip is expected to cost around $US30,000, and Zambia will only need to pay for their air fares to Germany.

Zambian fans have often criticised the team’s inadequate preparations.

The Chipolopolo are preparing for their 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo on 6 September, a game that Zambia need to win to stay in contention to reach the second group phase of the qualifiers.

The training trip is set to be from 15 to 24 August, and will include two matches f

  16. The training trip is set to be from 15 to 24 August, and will include two matches for the Chipolopolo.

Zambia’s sports minister Gabriel Namulambe and the German ambassador Irene Hinrichsen announced the arrangement.

“It’s only that we can’t express it by way of dancing but we are so excited they gave us this offer,” said Namulambe.

Earlier this year, Germany offered to help Liberia’s national team with a similar training tour.

But it was called off after many of the Liberian players did not get the necessary visas to travel.

  17. Good training trip especially for our young and upcoming lads.we need to expose the boys. In 1994 we sent the guys to Denmark and remember their perfomance after that trip. These chaps you are talking about are finished and we dont need them any more, their time is long gone. They have been in europe 4 a long time and all they do is play lower league football, meaning they are not impressive or never improve. when a we going to see them in real big teams like Man u, barca, chelsea arsernal etc.
kaoma, kola, mayuka take advantage and show them yo talents.
    Gud luck chipolopolo

  18. I thank Renard for being the coach, we can have a great team bt we have a problem with the people who are leading soccer issues in zambia people got talent bt cant be recognised bcoz of lack of communication, wat i mean z if u were 2 put our local league games live on znbc, recognition of playaz wud hav bn likely.

  19. that Renard for including Tana in team, if mbesuam was serious he could too have been included. Tana keep up the discipline, despite people’s stupid talk that you are found in taverns in Chiwempala. If king Kalu played up to 41 years, why can’t you at 33? We need your experience to guide the younger ones. I also like tana’s attitude.

  20. Chips, I agree with you on Tana. Tana has always shown patriotism for mother Zambia and he deserves better. Most defenders play even when they 36 or up to 39. But to tell you the truth, Tana is not 33. I grew up with him in Chingola and I was young then at Sec school in grade 9(at 16yrs) and he was 20 something and playing for Brave rangers. I am 34 now. So guess Tana’s age. I am not demeaning him but this is the truth.

  21. #27, We know that most african soccer players age cheat. It doesnt matter if any player at any age can play, so be it. Look at Shoes Moshoeu. At 40, still playing.

  22. Zambian players balakula imitwe nga baendepo muconi.Nishi na training wabipa.Thats why we have players who only play football for two or three season only nishi bapwa. They are just like recondition 2rd hand vehicles from Dubai or Japan that can only last a maximum of three years thats if you are luck then it’s sikolokolo. Our current players cannot play for ten, fifteen or even twenty years like the great kalu,Ucar,Black Bomber,Cairo,Moses Simwala,Mario kapes, jani simulambo, computer, lucky muchofe, epambwe, obby kapita, and others. It’s bcoz abaice balafibwangu elyo balimushila.

  23. #15…If u r really collins, shut up and go train and loose that weight. sitting and posting rubbish on the blog will not help.lol.

  24. Sichone, Sinkala, Mwape Miti, Gift Kampamba, Mbesuma and the like should play as guest players for teams in Zed when they go home for holidays so that Faz can see for themselves what they are worth in terms of current form. Follow how African players are featuring in Europe on BBC on line and you will never hear abut our players. This tells the story. As for Mbesuma, don’t blame the technical bench. He was recalled and he did not pitch-up and did not even excuse himself.

  25. #27 Roger Milla played at the world cup at the age of 48. Age has nothing to do with football

  26. Northerns are thiefs that causes tribalism, they should also be reported to animal rights group for eating monkeys!.
