Govt denies intentions to privatise NCZ

Share

Government has no intentions of privatizing the embattled Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, NCZ, because it is a strategic national asset.

And Government through cabinet has approved a K58.5 billion for recapitalization and payment of benefits to rentrenched workers at NCZ.

Acting Kafue District Commissioner, Henry Bowa, told ZANIS that government is working round the clock to help improve the state of infrastructure and resucitate overall operations at the company.

He said NCZ is key to government efforts of sustaining enhanced performance of the agriculture as a significant sector to national economic growth.

Mr Bowa was reacting to concerns raised by NCZ workers over government’s move to appoint private Nyiombo Investment Limited and Omnia companies to supply fertilizers to farmers for the 2008/2009 farming season.

The decision has heightened fears of possible total collapse of NCZ among the workers.

He cautioned labour leaders at the NCZ to be calm as government is aware of the situation of the firm and in a hurry to revamping the agricultural sector.

Mr Bowa to the labour movement against engaging their members into unruly behavior.

  1. The govt is behaving like the Pharisees who told people to do what they told them but not what they were doing.MMD has no good policies on agriculture. They have contributed to the stagnation of agriculture in the country. They seem to be not in a hurry in boosting agriculture.

  2. Please help people of Kafue, they are dying of hunger!!! Imwe muleikuta revive NCZ, it is our major wealth resources.

  3. Guys I have been away from Zed for sometime now. What do District Commissioners do? When I was leaving they were not there. Do we still have mayors?

  4. DC are appointed by the President and carry out more or less the duties of former governors. They are answerable the President of the nation. I consider them to be political appointments, hence not civil servants. Mayors are there to run the activities of the Councils.

  5. Its mandatory that any normal person manages to pay his daily costs/basic needs before he can think of buying a car.this leaves no vaccum in the budgetary adjustments ever thinkable for a clear operation system in the home.its therefore important that a country must first be able to feed itself before any genuine development can be realised.NCZ as an institute is key towards such achievements.pls revitalise it and let run like any known business entity siteable around.its a good institution and has clients all over the country because its needed by almost everyone.pls lets save it from its problems.it can generate as much imployment to each one of us.lets be protective of it.

  6. This K58.5billion will soon be channelled to state house for LPM medical expenses since the K26billion which was budgeted for him is now finished as he rests in France.

Wait and hear Magande comment on the supplementary budget for the presidents medical bill.
