Contract NCZ for fertilizer production, Govt challenged

Share

Government has been challenged to consider contracting the Nitropgen Chemicals of Zambia, NCZ, for fertiliser production following the increase in budgetary allocation for the fertiliser support programme.

The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development, FDD, in Lusaka is of the view that the measure could help improve operations at the company.

FDD Lusaka Province Information and Publicity Secretary, James Musemuna, advised government to contract NCZ for the project because it has the potential to effectively contribute to the development of the agriculture sector and economic welfare of Kafue district.

Mr Musemuna welcomed the increase in the budgetary allocation for fertiliser support programme and hoped that more farmers would access the inputs on time.

Mr Musemuna said whilst workers and residents in Kafue are happy with the release of the K28 billion for retires and K4 billion for workers salary arears, there is need for more practical measures of sustaining operations at the company.

He also urged government to consider increasing the number of beneficiaries under the FSP this year.

Mr Musemuna said government has a duty of reviving and sustaining operations at NCZ.

  1. It puzzles me greatly when i realise that the government hasn’t taken keen interest in the affairs of NCZ!!! Why is the government not going flat out in supporting NCZ?? I am very sure with political support NCZ can be very viable…

  2. That’s just the way the old man KK was doing it!!what is very wrong with these chaps?becoz LPM is not around then everything remains unattended to?Sayifwanda do your job….NCZ is an asset for our country and region as a whole!!

  3. Who can sunction that support to NCZ considerating that LPM is away and not well. Stop believing these liars. Zed is on auto pilot, all seems well because we have not yet hit a storm. Let there be a storm and you will believe that there is actually no one controlling our beloved ZED.

  4. It is high time these politicians started thinking beyond their fat bellies. Recapitalisation of NCZ would make Agriculture viable especially for smaall scale farmers who are the majority and stand to lose the most if NCZ goes to sleep. Guys start honest politics and always be reminded that you are working for the common man who can hardly have nsima twice a day. Focus on the people you claim you represent and not yourselves.

It’s a shame that we’ve continued to import fertiliser even when we’ve got the capacity to produce the commodity. The only problem here is lack of political will; our politicians are only interested in satisfying their own selfish desires at the expense of poor Zambians. They do not have a heart for the nation
