NAC to spend $2million on Livingstone airport

Share

The  National Airports Corporation (NAC) is to spend over US$2 million to rebuild the concourse and check in area at the Livingstone International Airport.

Speaking during the hand over ceremony of Susi and Chuma statutes at Livingstone International Airport today, National Airports Managing Director Robinson Misitala said the money would also be used to extend the international departure lounge by 450 square metres to meet the increasing demand for space.

Mr. Misitala said the international arrivals hall shall also be extended.

He added that the corporation will also spend a further K1.5 billion to put up a new control tower adding  that the contractor was already on site.

Mr. Misitala said the investments at the international airport will go a long way in uplifting service delivery capabilities.

‘’The plans are at an advanced stage to extend the car park. We expect the works to commence as soon as all logistics are in place,’’ he said.

He thanked Gemfields and Kagem for having taken the initiative to erect Susi and Chuma statutes  adding that tourists passing through the Livingstone International Airport will rekindle their memories of Dr David Livingstone at the sight of the two statutes.

Speaking earlier, Kagem Mining Limited Senior Manager Jonas Mwansa said Gemfields and Kagem took up the assignment of recognizing Susi and Chuma who were little known to many people.

Mr. Mwansa said everyone knows about Dr David Livingstone but not all knew about Susi and Chuma, the two African heroes who were David Livingstone’s guides.

He said the two played a commendable role in the‘re-discovery’ of the Mosi-o-Tunya which has enabled  the world to know about  the  existence of Victoria Falls .

  1. Good lets celebrate our own people, Africans always knew the mosi existed,so it is right that we also erect statutes to commemorate atleast the men David worked with. Well done, lets have more of it. Who was the chief in the Mukuni chiefdom at the time? Any stories we can tell about their strategies in dealing with the soon to be colonisers?
What is the African name for Livingstone Airport?!!!

  2. Great development!!! i wish more of this is done to celebrate our people who are often overlooked in history!!!!!!!
    proud to be African!!!!

  3. Those are nice and great plans NAC. When are you starting to build/extend a Domestic Lounge? Hats off on the Control Tower issue. When also do you intend to build aiports in other major town sof Zambia for domestic airtravel?

Countdown: 7 days 23 hours 30 minutes remaining and we are counting. Vote for HH for a real real of hope and change that all Zambians can believe and trust in.

Vote ecHi-ecHi to maintain a polical, economic, social and scientif atmosphere of trust and hope in the GRZ by the whole world around us.

  4. Quickly fix Ndola “International” airport as well. Lusaka International also needs proper services. We have noticed that NAC collects lots of money during their recent quarel with Zambian Airways. Where does the money go, to fix RB image with ambi?

  5. GREAT NEWS, GREAT PEOPLE. JUST ENJOYING MY MID DAY SUN ATFER A TERRIBLE WINTER. STAY COOL. ZAMBIE HERE WE COME ON 27/10/08. WHAT ARE THE OPINION POLLS SO FAR ONE DR.NEO SIMU IS QUIET THIS TIME AROUND SAVE BLAMING HIS FRIENDS WHO RELEASED unfavourable RESULTS.

  6. Good stuff, now we need Zambian Airways (Nchito & Mmembe) to pay NAC what they owe. That $1.6m will go a long way to develop our airport infrastructure! Come, Nov1, we shall send in the baliffs…

  7. Livingstone Airport was recently worked on.Have they just realised that they did not do a good job or its another way of stealing money.Surely NAC should be talking about building another terminal building in Ndola. What remained in World War Two is what we are using as an international airport.

  8. Well done NAC really Livingstone INter. Airport is the busiest and NAC knows that they collect alot of money from Lstone Make it even much better. so far the most profit making in Zambia.. i urge the other government wings to improve lstone as i have potential to put zambia on a world map.. so far lstone i sgrowing at a faster rate.. Continue with the good work NAC,…

  9. Positive development, more as Sata enters plot one.Nakuno ku kitwe mwatuloleshako mulefwaya tuleikilila ku Ndola wamyeniko kalulushi airport elyo nomusebo waya ku airport kwine.Viva Sata Viva PF Mwamukoloooooo! Pabwatoooooooo!

  10. Good effort. Hope NAC has long term plan – like 50 to 100 years. We don’t want to run out of capacity. Hope they are learning from the difficulties Heathrow and Gatwick airports in the UK are going through just to be allowed to expand. Let’s learn from those who have gone ahead of us.

I agree with #1. Would anyone out there know what history of the area is typically given to tourists. Is it narrated, on video, audio, written, pictures or movie? I am sure it is important that we show the world that there was a life around the falls full of culture even before L/Stone arrived.

  11. Well done at least my History is completed, without these guys Susii and Chuma, i could have not managed to explore the Falls in 1855 in Nov 16th.

Hands to you boys, where are your great great grand children, i wish they where here.

Vote for H H, he will help LAP to be upgraded too.

  12. There is no blood relations to Zedian, Susii and Chuma. They from East Africa and were not married and had no children

  13. Did you know that none of them is Zedian? These guys came from East Africa and have Swahili blood and have no relationship to Zedians.
I wish Stanley was alive he could have told you the truth, despite him involved in child abuse in the Congo where he got a job in the factories

  14. lack of access to screening, treatment, and care facilities, in reality the process is much more complex. In Africa, cervical cancer is a disease that occurs in women who frequently live within a social context where their human rights are severely restricted, malnutrition is rampant, clean water is a rare commodity and sewer systems. Each case of cervical cancer thus represents one of the greatest public health failures of our times.

Vote for H H he has the best idea to good health

  15. Comeon people even if Susi and Chuma had no relations to the Zedians, the fact is they were africans that helped Dr.Livingstone to “re-discovery” the Victoria Falls and put the town of Livingstone on the world Map.Now cheer up and accept that this is a great thing to have happened in the Zambian history were a gemstone mining company takes up such a big project to apprieciate Africans despite the hurdles surrounding the gemstone industry in the country. You won’t believe it ! The whole idea to honor these great men for their great contribution was brought by a non African who happens to be the be the CEO for Kagem Mining Limited.

  16. Gemfields and Kagem pumped in over 50 million kwacha to erect Susi and Chuma. Thumbs to gemfields and Kagem for a fantastic job.

  17. #23 i wish you where at the handover ceremony. These chaps despite the well polished of Susii and Chuma, staff are on a go slow want increments too.
The money pumped in the project is a reward to Zedians especially those that does not get or benefit from the mine tax paid by the mines. Moreover it is the duty of these investors to identify what they can do for the community, period.
