Acting President, Rupiah Banda, is confident that the MMD will win the presidential by-election set for October 30.

Mr Banda said this was because the MMD was a strong party which would never be intimidated by the opposition political parties even when they teamed up in elections.

He was speaking to journalists yesterday in Lusaka shortly after his arrival from Chililabombwe.

Mr Banda said the MMD was ready for the elections because the party was credible and capable of delivering development to Zambians.

He appealed to MMD members to campaign vigorously to ensure that the party continued to be in government and fulfill the late President Mwanawasa’s vision of developing the country.

Mr Banda said it was Dr Mwanawasa’s wish that the MMD should continue in government in a bid to uplift the living standards of the people and propel the country’s national development to greater heights.

Mr. Banda said  there is need to maintain peace and unity if the country is to continue attracting more foreign investment.

Mr. Banda says his government will ensure that more investors come into the country to exploit the abundant natural resources.

He has condemned some presidential candidates who are threatening investors by issuing inflammatory statements.

Mr. Banda said this at a rally in Chingola on Monday.

He said the many problems the people in Chingola and other areas are facing do not warrant to choose a leader who will divide them.

Mr. Banda urged Chingola residents to vote for him because he has demonstrated good leadership before and after the death of President Mwanawasa.

He also said the multi-million dollar smelter at Konkola Copper mine in Chingola has started operating.

Mr. Banda said the facility has created a lot of job opportunities for Zambians.

    If voters have difficulties arriving upon an answer and they happen to know only one person as the organiser of a political party, then that should portend dictatorship.

  140. When your candidate holds a big rally in any district just know that such a rally does not go beyond 10,000 people, I hope you know. and out of these 10,000 people 7,000 may not be registered. And only 10% may be royal cadres while 90% are free to attend any other rally by another party. So you can see that these rallies may not be very significant. After all each candidate is recycling the same attendants. This analysis is helpful to avoid shocks on 31st October.

Because for me this should have been the basisi for planning their campaigns. How do spend a lot of time where there are very few registered voters and rush through where you have plenty of voters?   147. I believe that planning campaign should not just have been about touching all the provinces of Zambia, but planning based on voter base. Meaning allocating resources, time etc appropriately according, first of all, to the number of voters in each province then divided into each district and finally constituencies. I hope each candidate used this information because we dont want heart attacks and shocks on 31st October.

  148. I can tell you that SATA had more support on the line of rail in 2006 than he has now. The only difference is that in 2006 he was not the POST’s prefered candidate but now he is, so POST coverage has been overwhelming. Everything for SATA has been amplified by the POST. If you look at HH’s sponsored ads in the POST of today you will see huge crowds in the same areas where SATA and RB are recording mamoth rallies. This, as I said, shows that these candidates have been recycling same people in their rallies, and that only makes sense because people go to rallies to hear and judge the candidate, not to pledge their support; except of caurse the few about 10% of cadres and sympathisers.
