ECZ officially launches Results Centre

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Presidential elections results center has been officially launched at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka.

The ECZ results center will be used by the commission to announce Presidential results recieved from various districts across the country.

The launch was attended by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) country representative, Mcloud Nyirongo, local and foreign election monitors and members of participating political parties.

ECZ Chairperson Justice, Florence Mumba said the center is expected to announce the first presidential results by Friday morning.

And Justice Mumba said the commission is ready to conduct a free and fair Presidential election.

She said the commission has put in place measures to ensure that the presidential election is credibile.

Political parties are expected to wind up their campaigns at 18 hours on Wednesday, the official closing time for all activities aimed to woo voters.

Presidential candidates are expected to hold public rallies in Lusaka on Wednesday afternoon in a last minute effort to win votes.

The presidential candidates have in the last few weeks travelled across the country to sell their manifestos to the electorate.

Four candidates are contesting Thursday’s presidential election.

These are MMD’s Rupiah Banda, Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND, Patriotic Front leader, Michael Sata and Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda of the Heritage Party.

  12. For all its modernity, you would expect the results center to be the first to inform the nation on who has polled what ever vote.
    I can bet 24hrs after the close of the polls, the post will give us the results and the results center will still be awaiting the results!!!

  25. # 14, i have pics sent to me about the rallies in kanyama by HH, woodlands by Sata and mandevu by RB, which i can send to you if you wish. If rallies were a measures of winning, HH was going to carry the day. However, the rally for Sata is also fearfull large. Honestly, RB may have problems in Lusaka unless the photos were not properly taken.
    These elections will be full of surprises, lets wait and see. one will cry.

  26. There is nothing good about this. I thought a decision had already been reached that results will be stuck at the polling stations. It is better that way and even more transparent because just after just counting by polling officers in the presence of representatives from participating political parties the results are immediately stuck. We don’t need to wait for the ECZ with there delaying tactics. At first they will announce and show that the opposition is leading and then start announcing results from rural and claim that the ruling party has won. This happened in 2006 pipo. And on of that the announcers will get BIG allowances because it will be a panel of six pipo just announcing.

    06:30 Sata leading with a wide margin
    11:30 RB closing in the gap but Sata still in the lead.
    16:25 RB has overtaken Sata in votes counted
    18:10 HH is now in second position and Sata in third position
    17:00 HH closing the gap between him and RB
    21:40 RB narrowly wins the election, with HH and Sata in second and third position respectively.
    21:45 Sata refutes the results and promises to on to the streets

  134. THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has said it will start announcing the presidential election results from across the country by tomorrow morning. ECZ chairperson, Florence Mumba said in Lusaka yesterday that announcements would be done at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) as the results pour in from the 150 constituencies. “From totalling centres, the results will be taken to district centres where they will be transmitted electronically and by fax to MICC where the first announcement is expected by Friday morning,” Justice Mumba said. She said national totals stating the winner would only be announced once the results from all the constituencies have been received.
