The two trucks verified not to have carried ballot papers

Share

Stakeholders in the electoral process have verified that the two South African trucks that were intercepted by opposition cadres in Livingstone on Tuesday were in fact carrying camping lamps.

Cadres from the PF and the UPND in Livingstone intercepted the trucks claiming they had information that the trucks contained extra Presidential ballot papers.

It was established on Wednesday morning that the trucks were carrying 18,000 lamps which are part of a consignment that the Electoral Commission of Zambia bought for distribution to various polling stations.

The lamps are to be used in case of power outages during voting and counting of votes.

The two containers were opened at about nine hours in the presence of all political representatives including those from the observer missions of electoral institute of Southern Africa and SADC.

Some stakeholders prematurely left the ECZ warehouse at Lusaka International Airport after verifying that that all boxes in the trucks contained camping lights.

PF Kanyama Member of Parliament, Gerry Chanda, said he is satisfied that the contents of the trucks have been verified.

MMD LUSAKA central Constituency Secretary, Peter Chala, urged Inspector general of Police, Ephraim Mateyo, to arrest people issuing false alarms.

Meanwhile ECZ electoral officer, Wezi Chomba, said the commission is happy that all political parties have verified the contents of the two trucks.

  1. I told you, you were just wating your time. The ballots sneaked in and have reached their intended destinations as we speak.

  2. I think this ECZ has to be commended. They have been really transparent so far and am sure there won’t be any rigging and these cadres better get over their illusionary fear of VJ and get on with the real job of campaigning. Rigging pa zed is highly exaggerated. I believe LPM won cleanly both 2001 and 2006 elections. Rigging is just a mirth perpetuated by the opposition to explain away their failure to campaign in rural areas. I hope they have done their home work this time around.

    May the best man win

  3. when pf cadres detained one in southern province upnd bloggers condemed and said sata is at it again. how about now?

  4. Looks like this confusion may have delayed delivery of those lamps. When do they reach Chilubi Island for instance. Insanity.

  5. # 4 – Tilyenji concentrated on campaigning for RB at his wife`s expense.
And what about the rumour we have heard about ballot papers impounded on the copperbelt in coffins, anyone with news?

  6. But why should VJ treceive the lamps does he work for ECZ and why were they trucks not scanned I hope they checked thorully.

  7. Ok but why bring them in so late? that is the question we should ask them. what a waste of government money. CORRUPTION. SATA PA monday sort them out.

  8. I told you that SATA and HH know that they do not have support as individual candidates to win elections. Now themselves and their cadres are hallucinating and seing stars. Anything that passes is being interpreted in terms of ballot papers. I have said it b4 that SATA’s age is causing a lot of anxiety in him because he knows he has no more chance to rule Zambia. He is extremely desparate that he thinks he must win at all costs. SATA will not rule Zambia at any time. In fact it is enough that he is in opposition. He was Chiluba’s advisor for 10 years, But all they did was to run down and plunder the economy of our country. We saw the economy pick when Mwanawasa came got into office.

  9. I am not sure about the news of what #4 is saying, at least it was not on phoenix news today. About the ballot boxes, what I do not understand is why ECZ claims these are counterfait for voter education, who is doing voter education? Is an NGO or ECZ, there is a lot of talk about these counterfeit ballot papers.

  10. I hope the trucks were not tempered with while police and opposition slept. Why didn’t they check up in Livingstone. Can someone explain about the note addressed to VJ. I still smell a cat

  11. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  12. It is still suspicious that these trucks spent over a month on the way from Durban South Africa, The loading documentation show a date of 22 september 2008 and only crossed borders in to Botswana on the 26 October 2008. The impounding has not cuased any delay becoz the this trucks were deliberately held for some reasons known to the caontact person VJ. And the trucks are South African Registered being driven by Zambia residents. So who is paying for the time the hired trucks took of over a month to arrive in Zambia? So many un answered questions.

    VIVA PABWATOOOOOOO

  13. Sata and HH are the people trying to bring anarchy to our beloved country knowing very well that their greed wont assist. So Sata na HH ba stan-your-call!!!

  14. Can someone explain how these trucks took almost a month to drive from south africa to zed? Even if the drivers were learning how to drive,I smell a rat .People lets be vigilant we cannot leave anything to chance.

  15. The crowds that the propaganda post have been showing are misleading these candidates. My prediction is that MMD will be first, HH will second, and SATA third. HH has been underrated, but he will do very well this time around. watch this space.

  16. SATA has has declared he will not hold elections in 2011, because he knows he will not fulfil his promisses. So come 2001, he will not be popular because people will know they have been cheated and deceived. Because of that, he knows he cannot win the 2011 election. So he has lready started to prepare people to be convinced that he rules for 5 yrs. Thank God that he will loose. MMD has their grand rally which has just finished. They have done a smart job. They have put the rally live on ZNBC TV, radio1, radio2, radio4 and they have also sponsored the rally live throughout on Muvi TV. They have told people that SATA is lying to them. They have also told people about his dictatorial behaviour.

  17. The MMD have also told people about him not wanting elections, they have also told people how he championed ‘third term’ and many other issues. This has been aired countrywide. And SATA has no time to respond to any of the statements they have made as elction campaign ends in about 1 hour from now. They have told people that everything is a lie, and that he will take the economy to the state like that of some of our neighbouring countries. SATA has no time to respond, he has been hammered. MMD is smart. I hear people in the compounds are already saying that they will need to be careful, “Ati ba Sata fyabufi baletweba, balefwaya fye ama voti; ati niba dicteta, awa takuli voti”. Lelo, lelo PF!

  18. Chi VJ waba maballot papers, you will die rigging.
You behave like a monkey who dies with a cola nut in a fisted hand

  19. Remember the MMD rally has been heared nationalwide, and SATA has no time to respond. This is good fix! PF playing with MMD, Oh! MMD is not a group of kaponyas, they think. MMD did not end up in grade four, they are educated. Let us see if SATA will be helped by his promisses which have been refuted today.

  20. Lt cn u nw gve us the news on the defection to pf by mmd lusaka chairman, togetha wth mr moong and more..pabwato chabe..

  21. # 54 I agree MMD FIRST,HH SECOND AND sATA THIRD!!! The empty bucket makes the loudest noise!! What is the literacy rate in Zambia??

  22. PankolokoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooPankolokooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  23. I read wit dismay that pipo of certain political affiliations owaz contribute insults instead of upbuilding comments and I wonder regardless of political affiliations that such insults are put on elderly pipo who to me are more or less our fathers, granny papas and so on.If such insults are ushered on these poorly elderly pipo who cant answer you back what more our parents and other elders in our family. We will owaz respect whoever winners tomorrows elections for we are respectful of the will of the pipo

  24. Go home get some sleep, tomorrow is a long day for those of us with voters cards. Let us say a prayer for our country and for whichever leader God has picked for us. May the yacht win, that is my prayer.

  25. Tomorrow,Judgement day!! Bena bazalila!! P/se hold your fire. The best candidate will win. God is watching and he will give us the best man among the three! Like Adam smith’s invisible hand!! The campagn has been competitive and the best man shall win. Just relax, the results will be cool. After all, all the candidates have the interst of Zambia at heart!!

  26. It is quite strange what people are ready to believe. Have we lost our capacity to think? Everyone knows Sata’s history: its hard not to, considering that he is never quiet. Yet we think he can actually tar major roads, build schools and hospitals etc, all within 90 days. WAKE UP ZAMBIA! As the saying goes: “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”

  27. If VJ is clean and there is no rigging then the battle is bt Sata and HH and then HH wins. VIVA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  28. News flash- Friday 31 October 2008
06:30 Sata leading with a wide margin
11:30 RB closing in the gap but Sata still in the lead.
16:25 RB has overtaken Sata in votes counted
18:10 HH is now in second position and Sata in third position
17:00 HH closing the gap between him and RB
21:40 RB narrowly wins the election, with HH and Sata in second and third position respectively.
21:45 Sata refutes the results and promises to on to the streets
23:03 Inauguration to take place in monday 3 November 2008

  29. THE MMD CADRES IN NAKONDE HAVE INTERSEPTED MR SATA’S SPEED BOAT SUSPECTED TO BE CARYING BALLOT PAPERS.WHAT IS ECZ GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

  30. imwe bantu whats this about rigging kanshi? go and seat at the polling station and witness the monitors or party representatives sign against the results. then where is the rigging going to take place. Dont just say rigging identify points where it will take place then we can all believe you.

  31. Those with edu standards like their candidates shouldn’t waste our time Insulting. The only time you are heard is when you want to insult. Plot 1 is not a place to learn manners from. Its work there. No comedians. MMD and RB are fit for and going to Plot 1.

  32. #85 i am NOT a supporter of any of the candidates but pliz enlighten me in the past two months what has RB done to show he is fit. iF anything he has gained weight inspite of campaign pressures and on top of that the mmd is using public funds for their campaign which could be directed to better cause what kind of leadership does that show?

  33. One wondaz were sum pipo on ths blog get the courage to say hh o rb wil win..be realistic, read the mood, wishes and decisions of pipo..dnt js go on sayin ur cndidate has a chance, use ur common sense…ala its nt easy to acept bt..its democracy, ths tym its sata and the pf…on the boat..

  34. Those are the questions people should be asking. I upset to see how RB is using government (not MMD party) resources such as helicopters to campaign. That should be outlawed immediately. RB has not proven that he is fit. If anything he is proving to be more of the same selfish and corrupt politicians we have been saddled with.

  35. #84 can you please tell us of any qualities that Sata has dont just wake up from your sleep and put your vote on pabwato he will never be president.

  36. Ba Poor finisher (PF) supporters muzalila pa Friday because RB is the next President, Sata sazawina he should have teamed up with HH. Now HH and sata are going to split the votes don’t forget that its not 50+1% meaning RB can win by 40%. Viva RB

  37. PABWATO guys, it has been fun, signing off now or we will be prosecuted for going beyond the 18 hrs deadline, ni:

    PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  39. I am just from watching 10 000 BC something strake me there was a lot of similarity to rallies in Zambia

    Mammoth Rally LOL

  40. Former mmd lusaka chairman Geofrey Chumbwe says MMD Mps wil tomorow vote for PF…nw the boat is in cruise mode…no hicking leta, beta get in nw..viva pf and pabwatoo tmrow..

  41. #65 I agree with you to some extent, our options are limited. We are faced with a situation that like it or not, it will be Sata or RB. But these two fall far short of the people we expect to be running this country. HH is okay but he has failed to match to his predecessor in who most of the Zambia had hope. Under the circumstances (limited choice), Sata may have direction. RB for me shoots in the dark and hopes for something

  42. Hakainde Hichilema, 46, of the United Party for National Development, is seen as a dark horse contender, while former vice president Godfrey Miyanda of the Heritage Party is seen as an also-ran.

  43. My opinion poll yours that the winner of the 2008 Presidential elections will be known after the elections. Propaganda will not take the MMD and PF anyway.

Anyway, thank you Zambians. This campaign has been very great. I would like to congratulate the MMD, UPND and PF including PF campaign teams for all they did to make sure we have a Zambian President to take us up to 2011.

Thank you all Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, Northwestern, The Southern and Western Province Zambians. Together, YES we can. Go out and vote in numbers and remember to it for your children. THE END of campagining.

  44. I wish one day the bloggers here will wake up and start contributing something worth reading and digesting instead of the nosense from A to Z. You should be ashamed of yourselves for wasting your precious time. No wonder your country will never with such attitudes develop. Contribute something positive !

  45. the problem is you can’t trust the mmd. it is good that the tricks were opened. league naibakosela ba mmd.

  46. “RB suffered to get numbers… instead of 1030 rally only started at 1340….
If what we are seeing is anything, Sata has taken this election.” This is very, very reliable. someone from state media saying this bane.

  47. Sozi Thank you my brother or Sister, It is said at best viewing something from the outside looking in shall give you a clear view. You if are not Zambian have the advantage of being unbiased in your comments. Thankyou, for you have changed one person, myself. Who shall in essence pass on this to another Zambian to educate them. Thus from Sozi onwards, let us as Zambians stop being Lazy and complacent. There are a lot of us that work hard but the general populace needs a serious wakeup call. God bless Sozi, Zambia and everyone on God’s earth.

  48. how come lusakatimes doesn’t have “about us” tag so that we see who is behind it? red brick arrangement?

  49. Its good to know that the trucks were not carrying ballot boxes. But please ECZ, make sure you distribute those lamps and not hide them in your houses kuti muka gulise after ma elections

  50. The citizens democratic party may be the party of the future. Visit their website when you get a chance people. They have a very refreshing approach to governance. There might be hope for us after all. We need better parties and crop of leaders.

  51. No# 109
Thank you for the correction, but Sozi above did not deserve your insult. Though Na u bodola naiwe “wat sum broken english.” It should have read, ” wow that is some broken english” and read is pronounced in its past tense in this case. Do not point out the splint in anothers eye, before you remove the log in your own. Thank you for the enlightenment, it made my day. I am still laughing at myself.

  52. #114 watemwa kaa?mwela oonsee…pipo lyk sozi iritate me..thy dnt hav anytin to say, instead, thy js wnt to cum ot inteligent on otha pipo.

  53. No# 115 I re-read Sozi’s comment, we do need an apology from Him or her. There are a lot of genuine comments that hold tremendous amounts of data and imformation on LT. My apologies to you for criticising, your insult to Sozi spurred me onto that path. Chafuma ichi sungu after your noticing my earlier post. DNA ya translation se yenzo cummana na RNA. Ichimwela!!!!!!!!! Zambia is officially Democratic, even Chiluba’s own kinsmen about disowned him. Prayers for our country and all our friends on this earth.

  54. Still dealing with the same issues of mistrust like in KK and Chiluba’s era!! Sorry maningi pa Zedi. Who is the law down there? the parties, the police, ECZ or anyone who has bucks?

  55. Can those PF and UPND morons apologise to whole country for delaying the electrol process.Lets hear your presidents apologise for the tension caused after a false alarm.

  56. The general perception is that PF is leading in Hooliganism. They influenced UPND to be part of the nonsense in Livingstone.

The post will pay the price for campaigning for PF if by accident PF pulls through. The PF Kaponyaz will be un touchable and will ransack the post in an event they critise PF government programmes.

  57. LELO LELO LELO LELO LELO LELO LELO LELO

FINALLY OUR TIME TO BE VINDICATED HAS COME!!!!
