Zesco United Remain Top After Riding Into The Sunset

Share

Zesco United moved 6 points clear at the top of the Faz Premier League table after a 2-1 away win over predecessor champions Zanaco at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka today.

Nicholas Zulu scored his 6th of the season to firmly ascertain himself as Zesco’s most consistent scorer this season with a 3rd minute goal.

Enoch Sakala ‘s late prolific rally after a poor start to the 2008 season continued with his 4th goal of the campaign when he netted Zesco’s second goal of the match and the visitors winner on the stroke of half time.

Zanaco’s consolation came in the second half through Given Singuluma.

Zesco now lead the table on 44 points after 24 games with the rest of the pack to play their respective Week 26 games on Sunday with Buffaloes 2nd on 39 points and still to play this weekend.

Zesco together with Lusaka Dynamos were forced to play their respective Week 26 games on Wednesday due to their forthcoming BP Top 8 final match this Saturday.

Dynamos meanwhile lost 1-0 away to City of Lusaka at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka to exchange places on the table with the latter moving to 8th and the former slipping to 9th on the log today.

An 11th minute penalty converted by Aubrey Lusambo handed City the 3 points over former coach Fighton Simukonda who seemed until recently to be enjoying the last laugh over sides he has formerly coached in the last 12 months.

Dynamos however could have got a deserved equalizer in the 84th minute had teenage striker Freeman Chabala, son of the late great Zambia goalkeeper David “Effort” Chalaba, not amazingly missed a sitter at point-blank-range.

With only the City goalkeeper to beat after dancing past two defenders, Chabala instead decided to balloon the ball from 6 yards out and over the bar.

The young University of Zambia medical student miss was truly an epitome of the local league current striker crisis is undergoing.

  1. It’s quite unfortunate we are going towards the end of the season and the leaders’ top scorer has only scored 6 goals. This simply implies that we have a blunt striking force throughout the league. Last season Zesco won the league courtesy of Rainford Kalaba who came out top scorer with 32 goals followed by his team mate Enock Sakala with 29 goals and all the goals he scored were aided by Kalaba. Now Kalaba has gone the striker has failed to find his feet and we expect to win the Africa Cup and qualify to the world Cup with such strikers in the league.

  2. ZESCO lets you will do Zambia proud next year. we are sick and tired of you just going up to the first round then why do go to the summit of the local table if you can not even qualify to the second of the competition.

  3. the problem is that KCM sponsors the whole league. In the past the mines used to support there own teams and had a system in place to groom young players(under 13, 17,21).
Teams on the c?belt are nolonger a force simply because of the image building by the current investers.

  4. Thanx LT for listen to our plea. We can now view the log on this site. Please do the same for Divsion one and Two.

  5. Tatuleukita Ubwali bulechepa pantu mutengo wabunga naunina ukuchila amalipilo elo nabambi tababomba. Tulekabila ukulya uluchelo, akasuba nechungulo nomba tulefilwa mulandu wamitengo wafyakulya nauchilamo. WHO IS GOING TO SPEAK FOR US THE POOR???????????????????????

  6. Warriors where are you? Zesco ba iche sana.
Remove them from there we are with you guys.

    walya nganga ndiye walya nkuku.

  7. Kawele boys, Green Eagles, heading back to Division 1? I remember the fuss when they were promoted and relocated from the town where their support base was. So are they going to go back to the original and true homeground?

  8. Warriors for life!
Keep the pace Zesco but watch for my Warriors. We are the best in the Zambian Premier League…. Not utu ma teams twakwebati kaisa lelo mailo Kashima,,,,,,Zanaco, Zesco,Red arrows,Nkana,,,FAKE!!!
Walya nganga Ltd, Ndie walya Nkuku PLC….Today, Tommorow & Forever..

  9. LT firstly I must say thumbs up for giving us the league Table. Please note however that there is still room for improvements. The Table looks good in respect of the Points and games played but the other columns are not making sense. Check the following for example:

Zesco United have scored 31 goals and allowed 12 (or should be 22). Why is the goal difference only 8

GBFC have won 10 drawn 8 and lost 8 but the total number of games being shown is 24 instead of 26 if we follow the breakdown! The goal difference does not tally as well.

You can also look at City, Nchanga, and L/Dynamos etc or just review the whole table to ensure it is accurate.

  10. Ba Zesco always shine locally but are a disgrace when it comes to CAF championship we want a team that will raise the Zambian flag on international level not ukushainafye locally. After all we are your sponsors thru your dubious billing, work hard

  11. By the way did u know that Brave Nchanga Rangers are the only team that has never been relagated to lower divisions since myaka yakunuma. Jealousy down. Abashala niba ngweeele

  12. By the way did u know that Brave Nchanga Rangers is the only team that has never been relagated to lower divisions since myaka yakunuma. Jealousy down. Abashala niba ngweeele

  13. ba zesco you are good by zambian standards, but when you participate in CAF competitions you are eliminated by teams from tanzania, uganda, malawi etc .improve your standards so that you have a chance to play the likes of enyimba and egyptian teams, we are fed up of you being eliminated in the first round all the time.

iwe brave nchanga, you should know that power Dynamos have never been relegated to lower division since 1979, when they were a baby born without teeth. where were you?

  14. jelous down just because zesco united is leading then you say ba chabechabe, let the team that plays well deserves to be on top of the league. No matter how many times the team goes to the caf champions we will still rally behind them. Go boys Go….!!!! Zesco united “Powering the Nation.”
