A Senior Agricultural officer in Southern Province has
called for speedy delivery of agriculture inputs under the fertilizer support programme(FSP).

Acting provincial agricultural coordinator Adreen Nansungwe
directed the senior agricultural officers and district agriculture
committees to commence the implementation of the FSP programme by next
week as the province has received rains.

Dr. Nansungwe made the directive during the FSP 2008 -09 agricultural
season workshop held at Munzhi Lodge in Choma.

The one day workshop facilitated by FSP logistics officer from the
programme coordination office Given Simalumba was attended by district
agricultural coordinators, Senior agricultural officers, District
marketing and cooperatives officers and other agriculture officer in the province.

Dr. Nansungwe challenged the senior agricultural officers to implement
the FSP programme in accordance with the implementation manual as
failure to doing so would result in disciplinary measures against
erring officers.

And FSP programme coordination office logistics officer Given
Simalumba disclosed that his programme is facing challenges as only
two officers are managing the programme.

Mr. Simalumba observed that the price for the 50kg bag of fertilizer
is K50, 000 under the FSP programme.

He stated that any civil servant who will access the pack under the
programme should be subjected to the conditions enshrined in the
operational manual.

Southern province Senior cooperatives officer Grey Mwale stated that
southern province has been allocated a total of 14, 486.40 metric
tonnes of both basal and top dressing fertilizer.

Mr. Mwale further said that a total of 36,216 farmers in southern
province will benefit from the fertilizer support programme.

He added that a total of 724.32 metric tonnes of maize seed has been
allocated to southern province during this season’s input
distribution.
