RB congratulates Yar’ Adua for winning election petition

Share

President Rupiah Banda has congratulated his Nigerian counterpart Alhaji Umaru Mussa Yar’Adua for winning an election petition in the Supreme Court which was filed by the opposition parties.

President Banda said the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of President Yar’Adua confirmed the existence of a democratic dispensation in Nigeria in which the rule of law reins supreme.

He said this in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

President Banda hoped the court ruling will help President Yar’ Adua to enhance his noble efforts to unite and steer Nigeria to sustainable development and prosperity.

“In this regard, I wish to convey my warmest congratulations and best wishes on your victory” President Banda said.

He added that Mr. Yar’ Adua’s victory should further inspire Zambia and Nigeria to work closely together to strengthen the two countries’ bonds of friendship and cooperation for the mutual benefit of their people.

The Nigerian Supreme Court on December 12, 2008 ruled that President Yar’Adua was duly elected to the office of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after the opposition challenged the results of the presidential elections.

  1. HAHAHHAHAHAH…………….hoping he might help you to win yours next time ah? I dont believe in election petitions because no opposition ever wins, so no need to congraturate one, after all thats the strategy of African leaders now!!!!!! Lets learn to be Honest….. :d/

  2. Look at Toadface looking all sleepy again. He should know that the oppositions in Zambia are also capable of winning a petition against him. Why is this administration in cahoots with the Nigerians?

  3. These polls only pushed us deeper into the jaws of the wily old guard. Yaya dua or whatever is as slow as Rejected Ballot

  4. My brodda nawao am so appi dat Nyama soya has joined our ranks. am gonna have my fufu jolllof rice and plantain to celebrate plunderers OOOOH . 5. A father’s first instinct is to save the child and then warn against playing with fire or rattling a snake. If a hen strays deeper into the bush, you should rescue it from the wolf first then warn it against the dangers of straying. RB you have strayed too far

  6. If once you forfeit the confidence of your fellow-citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem.2u RB and yo govt of plunderers

  7. That is why they are not able to condemn each other. Heaven will drop for Yar’Adua to condemn RB that his election was rigged. He will soon return that favour by praise singing to RB when the PF petition will be done away with. No wonder Mugabe is happy and enjoying himself, he knows he is surrounded by riggers who will protect him knowing he will return the favour of saying good achievement when they next rig an election. Poor crap coming from some dormant and irresponsible president Zambia has ever had .

  8. Thats where he got juju to help finish his term without disturbance.Shame!! I feel pit for pipo who voted for un productive president. This one is fit for chola boy but not leading pipo.He can be a good house servant.RB thinks being at state house is moreless like being at the picnic.MPs should impeach this president before the worst.

  9. #5. Just Gaukiro

That is because the opposition never provides proof. They just base it on baseless accusations and hear-say.

If you accuse the ruling govt of election rigging, provide your evidence. Just telling the court “trust me I know” is not enough to win a court case my friend. Provide proof.

  10. way to go #1 ! birds of a feather. you must also be weary of the silence between NS (nyama soya) and uncle robert in Zim….surely birds of a feather

  11. Shame on you 8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x8-x

  12. Why not just keep qiet than comment on elections that are really meaningless to you Mr Presdo.

Is that the only thing you have been contempleting the whole of this week???.

You need to explain how financial markets work so that you can have a plan for bailout!!!!! of the mining companies???. So you decided to cut the basis point 500. ahahahaha kwena bwafya. These are the thing you must be tlkin about Bwana!!!

  13. Bush who came up with the idea that this guy should be president? I heard rumours that Magande was gonna be a better president than all that contested last election, what happened to him. Zambians learn from America, choose a person on merit not tribe. Do away with presidents like Kafupi(THIEF),Sata(THUG)and RB(SLEEPING) Its time we got serious brains in Governmnt or we will be like Zimbabwe.

  14. Bushe who came up with the idea that this guy should be president? I heard rumours that Magande was gonna be a better president than all that contested last election, what happened to him. Zambians learn from America, choose a person on merit not tribe. Do away with presidents like Kafupi(THIEF),Sata(THUG)and RB(SLEEPING) Its time we got serious brains in Governmnt or we will be like Zimbabwe.

  15. Now RB is surely becoming a frog, within this short stay at state house things have happened ka!Thandiwe, watch your sweet grandfathers’ eating habits coz his health is at risk.

Please explain to me how Zambia will be like Zimbabwe.

As far as I am concerned, 60% of Zimbabwe’s foreign exchange earnings came from agriculture which got destroyed. Zimbabwe is facing sanctions. Zimbabwe has got hyper inflation. Robert Mugabe is a communist who set up price controls and gave away 50% of private owned businesses to other people who had nothing to do with the setting up of the business.

So please tell me how Zambia will be like Zimbabwe. Tell me how it is likely to happen.

  17. The problem is that these opposition parties go to court with feelings instead of evidence.
If you have evidence you need to go to court, and if the one in position did some malpractice let him go bcoz we need credible leaders.
But if you just have is a feeling you also want to rule; the court asks you for evidence and all you say is, “No, its not fair, I should have won. There is no way I can lose”.
You just find that the court throws away your petition and you will be fortunate if it is not with costs.
You can tell that people use feelings instaed of facts when you see them protest over so many vehicles accusing them of carrying ballot papers only to check and find in none of them.

  18. “President Banda said the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of President Yar’Adua confirmed the existence of a democratic dispensation in Nigeria in which the rule of law reins supreme.”

Please, elaborate on this statement Mr President Banda? How did it confirm the existence of a democratic dispensation?

  19. Could have been accorded some respect had he kept quiet. Man, you have the worst govt ever besides your very poor leadership skills.

  20. Well, I am always suspicious of anything Nigerian. I wouldn’t rush to congratulate a Nigerian. Sorry. But you just never know with Nigerians.

Just 2 days ago, I quickly need photocopies of my family passports so we can get new ones. I got into a place run by a Nigerian. The first copy he made was a bit off the page. I told him to make a better one. Then went on to make 10 copies. At the end he demanded that I pay him even for the spoiled copy. I couldnt believe it. To make peace I paid him. Nigerian!! RB!!

  21. #50 Old Folk.
Why listen to that, when I watch it on You tube I find it too scary but its one of my favorite. Try James Morrison…broken strings.

  22. I find it very surprising that RB, a former diplomat would comment on internal matters of another country which may be polarizing.

The opposition of today will be government of tomorrow and Zambia and God forbid, even RB may have to deal with them.

Commenting as RB did may pre-empt the tone of Zambias’ relationships with its counterparties.

  23. #32 CIAO. ULEIPUSHA IMBWA NGE IFWELE. DOES RB KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT-“You need to explain how financial markets work so that you can have a plan for bailout!!!!! of the mining companies”. WHAT IS IN RB’s HEAD ARE RATS, WHICH EVEN MAKE HIM TOO SLEEPY WHEN HE EATS TOO MUCH OF THEM. ZAMBIA DESERVES BETTER, MEN! I CAN’T IMAGINE WE HAVE THAT FULL FOR A PRESIDENT. ITS A SHAME.

  24. Who will congratulate the petitioners to the last Zambian election. In theory, if Sata wins his petition, will Banda congratulate him?

  25. 51. UK-Zed Observer….

By Now that Nigerian has got a cloned copy of your passport. Never, ever take photocopies in a Nigerian shop!!!

I am speaking from experience with fingers burnt terribly!!

  26. Whenever a head of state finds nothing constructive to accomplish internally, he starts looking beyond his borders. It’s called “Ablenkungsmanöevre” in German or “diversion tactic” in English.
RB is simply shifting focus from problems at home but that won’t work. I bet everyone is fed up with him by now and those still supporting him are only scared to bite the finger that feeds them… I don’t blame them.

  28. A Nigerian ex-minister has been named as an official suspect in the disappearance of hundreds of millions of dollars of government funds. Nigeria’s anti-sleaze body said Nasir el-Rufai, ex-minister for the federal capital Abuja, is wanted for allegedly misappropriating $246m (£167m).The corruption watchdog said Mr Rufai had ignored a number of deadlines to appear before the commission.
He had told the anti-corruption agency that he was busy studying in Britain. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had grown tired of waiting for Mr Rufai to come forward and answer its questions. Source BBC news. More on our upcoming investors.

  29. RB Was just giving us his opinion that wen judges who are appointed by the executive up hold election results for ruling part that is rule of law. In short it is a timely warning indirectly to the judges handling the petition case. In Africa u can’t remove a sitting government by courts then that will not be rule of law, ask Mugabe.

  30. #63 nine chale. YOU ARE SPOT ON. IT HAPPENS EVEN IN DOMESTIC ISSUES. SO RB THINKS BY CONCENTRATING ON EXTERNAL ISSUES PEOPLE WILL SWAYED FROM THEIR POVERTY TROUBLES. HE IS A FULL, BIG TIME.

  31. I do not believe RB is a real Southern African judging by his looks. Head shape is enough indication of a West African!

I know a typical Southern African Real Man when I see one!!!

  32. It is called blasphemy. SO DID rb THINK A SITTING PRESIDENT WOULD LOSE A PRESIDENTIAL PETITION? sOME OF THESE THINGS JUST MAKE YOU LAUGH OR HAVE I BEEN READING TOO MUCH? ANYWAY, THE DAY LPM DIED I KNEW WE WERE IN FOR A CIRCUS.

  33. They say you a zambian if you have a prominent forehead, small in stature and a high affinity for alcohol. If you fit this description then you are a Zambian otherwise start questioning your origins, You could be a Hutu or Tusti or even Banyamurenge.

  34. no sitting president has ever lost a petition in africa. belatubepa. RB went to nigeria to learn a few tricks of how to deal with a presidential petition.

  35. Slightly a week from today, a new law will govern political parties and it will no longer be business as usual. It appeared certain on Monday that the stringent law would lock out most small parties.By last night, Political Parties Registrar Lucy Ndung’u had cleared only eight of 168 parties registered under the Societies Act, an indication that most of the small parties would die off.Kalonzo said public funding would deter parties from seeking cash from questionable sources that may compromise party ideals.”The new law takes management and financing of parties to a new level. Parties can now get Government support,” Kalonzo said.”Parties will be held accountable on how they spend the monies.

  36. Can someone tell this numbskull to discuss stuff that is substantive and issues that affect Zambians? With his recklessness soon this man will start talking about the OJ case or the Britany Spears comeback. Please tell him the issues of verdicts in Nigeria wont solve Zambian problems. Tell him to focus at least for the first time in his life.

  37. RB on 10 day holiday
President Rupiah Banda is on Tuesday expected in Mfuwe in Mambwe district of the eastern province for a ten-day holiday.

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Kelvin Kamuwanga, told ZANIS that, President Banda will arrive at Mfuwe International airport at around 12:10 hours.

The president is scheduled to address MMD party and government officials before proceeding to Chichele lodge where he will spend his Christmas and New Year holidays.

President Banda is expected to return to Lusaka on January 2, 2009.

Meanwhile, President Banda has congratulated Nigerian President Alhaji Mussa Yar’adua for winning an election petition before the Supreme court.

  38. What remains, however, is the fact your election RB were not free and fair and i guess you are wrongly placed to advice

  39. Yaaba katwishi uko tuleya pano pa ZED! Why can’t this man concentrate on issues affecting Zambian pipo unlike congratulating his fella who cling teneciously to power like bakonto. So apa aleya ku Mfuwe for holiday. Bamdala it’s just too early for to start realaxing when ahead there’s is a big mountaing to climb. We havn’t yet reached the summit and you want to doze off! We are just at the foot of the mountain where you cant’t mix leisure and work! Shipafye!

  40. utter Moron that he is. he is going to Mfuwe for a 10 days holiday!! He thinks that by the time he comes back the problems on the c/belt will have disappeared. Zambians went for the worst person for president. they must surely be hard up for leadership!

  41. RB is going on holiday while the world economy burns, Zambians have no food, no fertiliser? Be serious Nyamaz.

  42. NyamaSoya is clueless on governance of the country.Instead of focusing on improving the economy, he is busy showing off the whole cabinet the work of a gardener beautifying state house. The cabinet looked bemused, confused and dull during the whole circus with NyamaSoya playing the ringmaster. Cant they find something else to do to savethe kwacha. A bunch of Idi*ts. Not fit for plot one. No appologies.

  43. :NyamaSoya to take a 10 day long NAP:(sleep).

NyamaSoya taking a 10 day holiday.Countrymen is this man serious??? jobs are being lost daily. KCM has just announced loss of potentially 800 jobs. Luanshya Mine closed (they cant cheat us with so called care & maintenace crap) with 1,700 employees to be thrown onto the street. He want to take a 10 day nap!!! Useless. Those that voted for him should be ashamed.lets demonstrate, he should not take that holiday so soon.Shame to MMD!! One day I shall renounce Zambian Citizenship, cause we are not serious nor brave enough to improve our generation.da church, Civic leaders, PF, UPND lets stop this nap!!

  44. Awe kwena ba RB, bushe ninshi tamukwete inchito for you to start sending silly messages ku bena igwe…? And why go on holiday when you’ve such a huge task ahead of you. Don’t tell me mwalema kale pamene apa.**==x(

  45. Thats why non of the presidents in AFRICA can criticise ROBERT MUGABE on what is going on in ZIM ZIM…RB is just justifying his fears and knows what can happen to him if justice can be applied professionaly.

  46. But ni pa Zed zoana!!!!!
Its true birds of the same feathers, soon he will congratulate Mugabe for the his misrule.
    God bless Zambia

  47. Somebody please give me a good description of our ‘president’! How on earth should he congratulate a fraudulently elected president?

  48. #106 (Boy who shouted Lion). The discription of RB is NyamaSoya.

So next time I democratically advise you to change your name to “Boy Who shouted NyamaSoya”. Read my other comments on him from #101 above.

  51. Dear bloggers,
Do not judge a case without facts and do not prejudice yourselves. The supreme court of Nigeria throughout the petition on very reasonable grounds. The Chief Justice said ‘In an election petition challenging the conduct of the election throughout the length and breath of a vast country like Nigeria , …of the 19 witness depositions, 18 were rejected by the Court of Appeal. Were the 18 rejected not designed to prove the case of the appellant, and if so, can the appellant say in reality that he proved his case?’ Non of the electoral agents testified. 4 of 3 judges ruled against the appellant.

  52. We should move away from this demeaning idea about Africans that they cannot conduct elections democratically. President elect Obama is American but he was unhappy about an Englishman sitting next to him on a flight to Africa calling Africa that ‘God forsaken continent.’ Surely we should be more proud and free. ‘Africa is our own motherland; fashioned with and blessed by God’s good hand.’ ‘Nkosi sikelele Africa!’

  53. golden rule no. one ” the only contact a sane person should have with a nigerian is football” any ting else na be bad o. Dis people na be crooked. even you dat is busy dancing around wit access bank. they will chop yo moni o ! meantime # 46 , your name is too vulgar

This is what real men do instead of behaving like boys who make noise like gongs.

  55. Never ever associate yourselves with Nigerians. These guys are dirty. Next you will have a large influx of Nigerians in your country. Next your girls will be used as drug traffickers and sentenced to death/life imprisonments in China. Leave those West Africans alone. Zimbabwe is far much better to be friends with. Majority of people in Zimbabwe are smart. Tell Rupiah to hold it go make friends in Gwanda, Zimbabwe where you were born than Nigerians. Those people are very fast and corrupt.
