PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda looks on as Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Quiangmin (r) signs a visitors book at Chimfule Lodge in Mfuwe

President, Rupiah Banda, says his administration is working hard to enhance the tourism policy framework in an effort to promote growth of the industry.

President Banda said the policy would be enhanced to facilitate the effective management of wildlife as part of efforts of developing the sector.

Mr. Banda was speaking in an interview with ZANIS when he viewed game in South Luangwa National Park yesterday.

Chinese Ambassador Mr Li, who arrived in Mfuwe yesterday to deliver Chrismas greetings to the President, offered to conduct more promotions to encourage Chinese tourists to visit Zambian destinations.

Mr. Li said he was impressed with the way Zambia has managed the wildlife sector as it is significant to the conservation of the environment in the wake of rising concerns of climate change and global warming.

Meanwhile, President Banda today took time off his holiday, to pay courtesy on traditional leaders of Mambwe district.

Among the six chiefs were Senior Chief Nsefu, Chiefs Msoro, Malama, Mnkhanya, Jumbe and Kakumbi all of the Kunda people of Malambo district.

The President held private talks with the traditional leaders.

President Banda started his 10-day holiday on December 23.

Among other prominent people who have so far visited President Banda at Chichele Lodge to deliver Christmas greetings are Bank of Zambia former Governor, Jacob Mwanza, and UNZA former Vice Chancelor Professor Robert Serpell.

  1. Well, Zed never really learns. It’s as if we have mastered the art of selecting very incapable bastaaards into office. Can’t wait for 2011!

  2. Damage Control. Now its being called a working holiday. Invite Chinese Ambassador at short notice and start talking about tourism. So the holiday looks credible. This thing stinks even more the deeper we the taxpayers begin to think about it. Naleka.

  3. He is planning a Cabinet reshuffle when he returns so it is a working holiday. Mulongoti be careful, you have failed to sort out the washed bridges. And who is supposed to be talking about tourism with the chinese, also be careful. How about those who did not succeeded in jailing Chiluba – nabena kuya bebeele. I think to make the nation strong Sata will be appointed road cleaning and accident prevention boss. That is going to make the country very strong, what do you think? Everybody driving around with boats attached to their cars to avoid overloading – The PF solutions, fantastic!!

  4. ‘Among other prominent people who have so far visited President Banda at Chichele Lodge to deliver Christmas greetings are Bank of Zambia former Governor, Jacob Mwanza, and UNZA former Vice Chancelor Professor Robert Serpell.’

It appears Jacob Mwanza is being with the President Mr Banda too much. What is really happening? I hope there is nothing sinister about his frequent appearances with the President Mr RB Banda.

The issue of tourism in this news is serious and good though. =d>.

  5. President SHREK and sweet sixteen enjoying the bush while people are facing stavation. thats painfull to bear.
but what kills me is that come 2011, you zedians will vote as if you have amnesia. x(

Zimandola one I didnt mean to put u on the spot but I had to use your entry as example

  7. Why cant the president have a holiday in a Zambian game park? Every employee is entitled to time off. Would any of you bloggers work all year without anytime off? Is he the first president or leader of any country who has taken a break? Most of the world is working at half capacity due to the xmas and new year celebrations so please cut the man some slack. What we should be discussing here is how we can improve the tourism industry in Zambia not just back biting for the sake of back biting.

  8. During Mwanawasaa reign two things boded well for our late leader. The first was an increase in the price of copper on the metals market and the 2nd was Mugabes land issue. Just ask how many tourism operaters in Livingstone and Siavonga love Mugabe for sending all those tourists accross the border to them. This has trickled down to the parks in Luangwa and Kafue.
We didn take advantage of the good copper prices and now we’re hurting.
If we wait till sanity is restored in Zim(and yes, it will) we will yet again be rueing all the chances we currently have of overtaking Zim in that regard.

  9. “…more foreign and local tourists should be encouraged to visit South Luangwa National Park and other game parks in the country.”

rb thinks every zambian can afford a holiday. be reminded that they pay for your holiday to sucrifice theirs. Its a pitty, how every zambian thinks tourism is only about wild animals. South Africa and Botswana are very near-politicians can go and learn how leisure, culture, communication and transport etc, have been combined with wildlife. So, what does one do after seeing animals? Go back to your lodge room and sleep?

  10. RB Toadface has no sense of direction. Is he working or is he resting? He shouldn’t confuse the citizens by making cheap political statements when the truth of the matter is that he doesn’t give a sh!t about the starving villagers in Mazabuka. By the way did he personally witness the elephant attack? Under the Ruthless Bandit administration there are shortages everywhere, even the animals are on rampage now, they’ve resorted to attacking humans. Does he know there’s cholera in Mazabuka? Wait till it catches up with him and you’ll all see those big flabs of rubbery flesh shrink from his neck.

  11. …What about investing in roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, indoor leisure centres with state of the art swimming baths, bowling, electronic games, play parks in all towns (big and small), water skiing (sports), etc. All these can bring a lot of jobs for the citizens. I know someone would say, “why don’t you do it”. Let me pre-empty your shallow thinking (a few of you). A roller coaster is a seriously large undertaking, suitable for the govt or rail companies. But, they are mass-tourists magnets. They are addictive, too. And they trigger a lot of SME in the surply chain.

  12. THIS IS THE MOST JOKE OF A PRESIDENT ZAMBIA HAS EVER HAD. ZAMBIA HAS SUNK SO LOW, MAN! HOW CAN THE LEADERSHIP OF ZAMBIA BE TRANSFERRED TO DOGS? I AM A PROUD ZAMBIAN BUT SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD TO JUSTIFY. ANYWAY, MY ONLY CONSOLATION ARE ORDINARY PEACEFUL ZAMBIANS.

  13. Mr.Banda these are leaders with nothing to offer to the people, This man is a big fat lair where are the 4000 jobs he promised to the people of Zambia?

  14. Number 21 people dont want to come to Zambia for Disney Land. We need to carve up a niche market as to what we offer our visitors. Botswana has done it by encouraging high end spenders whereas Gambia and Kenya have gone for the mass market. Zambia can use it’s rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources to market itself. One of the things it can do is to paint Zambia as a safe place unlike say South Africa which is perceived by some to be dangerous. We should also promote schemes such as the one in Luangwa valley where visitors spend some time within a village with the money going directly to the villagers themselves who use it to pay for their health and children’s education.

  15. # 3 Bazungu,

2011 has nothing to do with your hopes of a different party reigning other than the same MMD continuing. In zambia we don’t just have circumstances or alternative political institutional structure to credibly challenge the MMD as yet.Changedevelopment will come with the some young MMD progressives now on the rise therein as it were in UNIP.Progressives secretly social engineered change movement using institutional connections. It as not out of these hallow talkshops of Lubinda, HH that change the paradym. What do yo expect from our Sata,BY, Nawakwi, Nevers, Miyanda?Don’t expect these to outwit MMD.

  16. Working hard eh?i’m sure it’s really hard work to view wildlife, pay courtesy calls on chiefs and recieve a host of high profile visitors!they say don’t judge a book by its cover but in this case its written all over the man’s appearence – lazy, dwanzy, lacking ideasand loves to sleep.i seriously hope my countrymen will make a reasonable choice in 2011 and boot this fella out. :(:(:(:(:(

  17. Peter shut up with your shallow thinking of projects/ business that will not generate income .Do you think people who are starving can afford to pay for roller coasters or water skiing sports? People can’t even afford a decent meal because selfiness and uncaring by the unpopular govt has failed them. If you look at the faces of ordinary people, their faces say it all that hunger is biting everyone regardless of whether in employment or not. It is like dreaming such a business. If you can talk about food business like KFC, BK and Macdonald to be opened. Yes this can make people feed themselves. These MMD politicians are crude, brainless and the black skull of modern prostitution politics.

  18. well wait for my turn to be THE president , zambia will be heaven on earth. I will certainly do away with such kaunda traditions of mfuwe holidays when one is not even tired.I will make good use of chaps like bulaya `s time while in prison making them produce food for the nation and let them clear soweto market ,make drainages in the compounds.

  19. #24. BOTSWANA has done and tourists flock there, big time. Botswana has combined the things I am talking about. The road network is one of the best in the world. They have leisure centres in towns, beutiful-high-standards hotels/lodges. Beautiful ambiency. Discipline, exellent customer relations. They also have a very good train service. I appreciate what you are saying. But tourism should continue even where there is no game park. I did an extensive research on why tourists go to certain places when I worked for a certain marketing and branding co.

  20. Be reminded that tourism is a family thing. You can be excused if you are one of the chaps who think holiday is just for a man and probably together with his young girl friend leaving behind his proper family of wife and children. Thats an african way of thinking. Isn’t? But here we are talking of civilized people. If you have smaller children, they wouldn’t like too much of safaring in bushes. So, those families go where their children and wives can fit in. Zambians have a mentality that tourists will be booking cabs. Thats not real tourism. Cabs are mainly for urgent business as we know them here.

  21. Peter I agree with your comments regarding the road network in Botswana. What is also needed is a different mentality as regards marketing ourselves. Whilst i have been abroad I have seen many progs and articles on Zambia’s wildlife. What we need is the govt to back it up. For example, why is Bangweulu not marketed as the Okavango delta is marketed in Botswana. Why dont we market the various traditional ceremonies? Even our logos seem to me to be a bit dated and look amateurish. Also, as people have already stated something needs to be done about the airport. Tanzania and Ethiopia have better airports than us. Even the airport in Kilimanjaro in Tanzania looks better than ours

  22. cnt. Tourists want to be on public commuter transport. They want to mingle with real (local) people and learn about the locals’ cultures. A tourist with a family (wife and children) wouldn’t favour Zambia as a tourist destination with our kind of (mini-mini, bus) one small seat for three passengers. So, the will go to a country where they can even use a baby pram on buses and trains with little or no hussle. During UBZ time Zambia was close to having descent transport system. The current commuter transport we have in zambia is an insult to humanity. Even piigs would protest.

  23. Many companies in Zambia are laying off their employees due to the falling price of copper on the international market and the global economic crisis which has affected many countries in the world. In Zambia, like in other developing countries, the majority of the people have been living on less than a dollar a day even before the current global economic crisis…(check today’s post letters)

Good comments bo doctor, but don’t your advice is needed more in your motherland Congo? As we speak Congo is collapsing,

  24. First it was visa fees, now tourism. Has this man got anything to offer Zambia from his “Economics”? I’m very sure he was a wildlife officer if not wildlife itself

  25. #33 Peter. Now you are talking. Actually, was serious about my former company branding and marketing Zambia’s tourism. I had even spoken to our directors in detail about zambia. I mean, I presented the case to my director and they were very impressed and ready to take up the challenge of marketing zambia world-widely. Don’t ask me how the whole thing was frustrated. However, I have taken it upon myself to market Zambia-am doing some ground work. A few months ago I visited Zambia and took a lot of scenery pix. I visited even some of the places you have talked about-stunning lake bangweulu, livingstone, northern province, etc…

  26. #27 you are on of the few people who see reality and say the truth. unlike most bootlickers or sons of plunderers here. We need to work on things which will benefit the people. Zambia is in an economical crisis, we have nothing left as MMD has completely wasted anything of value or got the benefits for themselves or their children. Yet time and money is wasted on selfish holidays. Cholera has even hit the country, you want to bring more tourists. How can it work when there is poverty in the country. So they spend time making NGOs and steal the resources? Wake up we have only one Zambia

  27. …So, in two years time you should see things happening and I should be able to point out exactly what I am doing. Zambia is a place with everything. It pains me to see how politicians don’t see how potentially rich zambia is and use this potential to develop the country in no time.

  28. #39 they see the potential just concenrate of enriching themselves. Zambia has a culture of politicians stealing from Chiluba as a president using govt money, what do think of all those MMD guys coming after him? MMD is now confirmed a party with motives of stealing

  29. #27. You simply did not understand what I meant. I wish bloggers could care to relate the contribution to the topic in hand. I am talking about job creation as a preamble to Zambians participating in tourism as tourists. And if had read further, I even mentioned that no one or only few individuals can afford holidays in zambia. But if you are the type of person who doesn’t think b4 you open your mouth-we can also pardon you, sir.

  30. plz guyz sometimes try not to be over critical.some comments leave much to be desired, leave the old man alone to enjoy his second honey moon, join him if yu can’t beat him.

  31. The president is on the right track to drive a vision to enhance tourism and agric sectors. These sectors are much easier to handle by ourselves than the mining industry which we ssm to be much depending on foreigners.
The other sector we need to look at with a more serious note is that of the Art (music and film) industry. There is a lot of talent in Zambia which if tapped well would greately contribute to our forex.
Look at the economy of Jamaica for example and examine the percentage of export; a big portion comes from the music industry.

  32. 45 FINE.
I HATE HOW YOU SEEM TO LIKE AND PRAISE EVERYTHING ABOUT MMD AND RUPIAH BAMBA. THIS PRESIDENT IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY. A HOLIDAY OF FEASTING HIS CLAN AND FRIENDS LIKE JACOB MWANZA, WHO MAY BE LEARNED BUT TRULY FROM THE OLD SCHOOL OF UNIPISTS. THE PRESIDENT SHOULD BE AT STATE HOUSE AND NOT WASTING TIME VIEWING GAME AND TALKING ABOUT TOURISM ONLY AFTER SEEING ANIMALS. WHAT DELIBERATE STEPS IS HE MAKING TO MAKE TOURISM FORGE AHEAD. TOO BAD EVEN CLUELESS PEOPLE ON THE ECONOMIC CRUNCH LIKE RB ARE BEING PRAISED. MAZABUKA HAS CHOLERA, IS IT BECAUSE OF SOME DEMO WE DID NOT KNOW OF, YOUR WORD ON THIS FINE.

  33. 45 FINE
TOURISM WITH AN AIRPORT LIKE NDOLA WHERE RED POLISH (MWANDABA) IS SMEARED ON THE FLOOR IN THE 21ST CENTURY IS A PIPE DREAM. AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LIKE LUSAKA) WITH NO HOTEL AND AN AIRPORT IN LIVINGSTONE WITH NOT MUCH RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AT THE AIRPORT IS DAY DREAMING AND A PIPE DREAM TO TALK ABOUT TOURISM BEING NO. 1 FOREX EARNER FOR ZAMBIA. WE NEED TO INVEST IN INFRASTRUCTURES AND WORKING AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION BEFORE WE CAN PREACH ABOUT TOURISM. RB IS LIVING IN UTOPIA AND PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THAT WITH HIM. THE GUY IS FULL OF DAY DREAMING AS HE DOZES HIS WAY TO THE BANK OVER OUR HARD EARNED MONEY.

  34. 45 FINE
MMD LIKES CONDEMING PF AS LACKING PLANS ON THE WAY FORWARD FOR ZAMBIA. BUT HAVE YOU READ TODAY’S THE POST AND SUGGESTIONS BY LUBINDA THAT GOVT IS BLOATED AND DOWNSIZING SHOULD BE THE WAY. WHAT IS YOU TAKE ON THAT. TWO MINISTERS AT SOME MINISTRIES, TWO DEPUTY MINISTERS AT MOST MINISTRIES AND TWO PERMANENT SECRETARIES AT SOME MINISTRIES. THERE IS A LOT OF DUPLICATION OF DUTIES NO WONDER THE RED TAPE AND INERTIA TO MOVE FROM GOVT. MOST POSITIONS IN GOVT ARE BUSY FIGHTING EACH OTHER FOR POWER AT THE EXPENSE OF WORKING AND DEVELOPMENT. WHAT A SHAME.

  35. RB can u plz get real? Those kamushis who voted for u dont even know tht Mfuwe exists besides the ones who live there and who also hapen to get kiled by elephankts o watever animal, we dont want holidays, we want food, clothes, health services, skus and all not castle and mosi. Thandie, plz tell the man,he wil die and leave u ka.He has lived his life so u wil do wel to ensure he makes a difference ka.

  36. I new that the man does not think RB but all i want is money in his administration that is why I told the people of Pongwe to vote for sata. He is now on holiday and busy bragging that the price of mealimeaal has gone down. :d/

  37. …….imwe, RB IS TURNING THIS COUNTRY INTO A CIRCUS………
The name of the country should change to ”GOES BY LUCK” ….. GOOD LUCK ZAMBIA!!!!

  38. Bwezani doesnt deserve the time off because what has he done? Before he even works, he goes on leave…what is the problem with this Bwezani kanshi?

  39. #16, i agree with u, dat heading whld hv bn the best.Govnt is doing nothing abt that coz if u look at da roads in Mfuwe where they are!! its teribo pipo are dying coz of water.amamotoka ukujomba and bridges bn washed away.so wat tourism are they talking abt if they cant work on the roads? marabish!!! :-?:-?:-?:-?

  40. Hey Rashid, missed you mwee!

You people, RB lamentably failed to manage his very own farm, how on earth can he manage to run the affairs of this conuntry??? Think again!!!!! :o)

  41. hi Pinky! missed you too. Lundani is a shame for Zambians, the man is not just Presidential material. the whole Government is like manyengwe

  42. I was on an overland trip with my mates in June 2008 from Cape Town to Tanzania. We passed through Botswana , Zambia, Malawi and finally Zanzibar. I was disappointed with the Zambian portion of the trip. The road after livingstone was horrendous. It was like its been bombedout and hit with artillery fire! The next one into the Kafue National park was equally bad. Mfuwe into the South Luangwa was a hell run. If these are your tourists attractions I am sorry your government has no clue as to what they are supposed to be doing. This was my second trip to Zambia. My first was in 2000. And these roads seem to have gotten worse. I am reluctant to bring my parents to Zambia despite their pestering.

  43. 46. KCM,
You sound very emotional. There is nothing wrong with being emotional; after all God made us emotional beings. However, the problem comes in when our emotions surpus our rational; there trouble comes in.
You see Banda said we are making efforts to promote tourism, he did not say we have already promoted tourism. I wonder why you talk about state of Aiports being bad; who doesnt know these things are in a bad state? We all know that. You expected RB to renovate and rebuild there infrastructure in 1 and half months when SATA and Chiluba destroyed these things for 10 years.
If RB is making effort, that needs to be supported.

  44. #64 cont’d..
Why should RB make effort if the Airports and all the other infrastructure were in percfect shape?
Why should RB and his admin make effort to promote tuorism if it was already promoted?
My friend it is because these things are in bad shape now that RB has to make this effort.
These things; all of them tourism, mining, agric, name it were all left in bad shape by Chiluba and SATA’s ten years of rule.
Even when you have content to offer, if you allow emotions to take over your rational people will think you have little to offer.

  45. #49. KCM
I have always been an advocate of a smaller government, right from the time of Chiluba to the time of RB.
RB needs a smaller government by reducing or even merging some ministries. Also triming the number of ministers when some smal ministries only need one full minister and no deputy.
This is the mess that Chiluba left behind which has structures that you dont work up one day and say, from today my cabinet shall be small.
Chiluba, for example did not need things like Minister without portifolio (SATA), for what? And all this staff RB has to address now.

  46. Mr Ba Rupiah Banda, the way Zambian tourism is marketed abroad will never attract any meaningful numbers of tourists. Here in the UK, there is nothing about Zambia in high street travel agencies whereas you find a lot on Kenya, Egypt and South Africa. Teaming up with British Airways is not the solution because the airline is not on the high street per se. Putting tattered Z-Magazines in Zambian high commission and embassy offices is not solution. Employ knowledgeable people and not those Chandalian Matero Uni graduates to market tourism.

  47. 64 TO 66 FINE
I DID NOT SAY SATA AND CHILUBA LEFT GOOD AIRPORTS NO. MY POINT IS RB SHOULD START FROM WHERE IT MATTERS AND NOT LIKE SOMEONE WOKEN UP FROM THE SLEEP. HOW DO YOU GET TOURISTS IN WHEN YOU GATEWAY FACILITIES ARE NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT.
WE NEED A PRESIDENT WHO WHEN HE ASSUMES OFFICE LIKE RB, STARTS TO TALK AND BEHAVE WHAT MOST OF US FEEL IS WORTH THE OFFICE. CHILUBA YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IS NO LONGER PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA. IMAGINE IF BANDA CAN TAKE UP WHERE FTJ AND BETTER STILL WHERE LEVY LEFT OFF AND START TO BUILD UP FROM THAT. BUT HERE WE ARE WITH A PRESIDENT WHO NOW MOST HAVE LOST HOPE OF AS HE IS BEHAVING LIKE A KID IN A SWEET SHOP. EAT FIRST AND THEN WORK

  48. FINE
RB WAS ALIVE AND I HOPE IS ALIVE TO THE FACT THAT ZAMBIA IS NOT WELL OFF. I DOUBT IF HE IS ALIVE TO THE PROBLEMS OF ZAMBIA, IF THE FIRST THING THAT HE DOES IS TO GO ON HOLIDAY. WE CHOOSE TO CHANGE PRESIDENTS SO THAT WE REMOVE COMPLACENT, BUT RB IS THE BEST EXAMPLE OF BEING COMPLACENT I CAN GIVE IN MY SHORT LIFE. TAKING A CLAN FOR HOLIDAY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE COUNTRY UNDERGOING MANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THIS GUY IS SURELY DISAPPOINTING EVEN THE VERY PEOPLE EATING WITH HIM.
LOOK AT HOW FERTILIZER DISTRIBUTION HAS BEEN HANDLED. RB WILL TELL US THAT MEALIE MEAL WILL BE CHEAP NEXT YEAR AND YOUR GUESS AND MINE IS AS OBVIOUS AS DAY IS. THIS PRESIDENT DOES NOT CLICK FOR ME AND YOU EITHER PERIOD

  49. FINE
LOOK AT HOW RB HAS LET KUNDA RUN TWO IMPORTANT MINISTRIES AND THEN LET ONE MINISTRY HAVE TWO AGRICULTURE MINISTERS. I KNOW YOU WILL SAY EVEN LEVY DID IT. BUT IN LIFE TO PROGRESS ONE HAS TO AVOID OBVIOUS MISTAKES MADE IN THE PAST EITHER BY THEMSELVES OR MADE BY OTHERS. BUT INTELLIGENT ENOUGH RB IS MAKING THE SAME TIME AND TIME POINTED OUT, MISTAKE, BY THE LARGER AND PROGRESSIVE COMMUNITY OF ZAMBIA. RB AS AN INSULT IS BUSY VISITING CHIEFS OR VILLAGE HEADMEN AT THE EXPENSE OF ALL THE TECHNOCRATS HE HAS AT HIS DISPOSAL AND PAID FOR BY THE GOVT. CAN YOU SURELY CALL THIS PRESIDENT A SERIOUS MAN FOR THE OFFICE. HE IS CONSULTING HIS VOTERS MAYBE, I NEED TO EXCUSE HIM.

  50. Am proud on behalf of Botswana, they really protect their resources to the utmost.Plenty of elephants in Kasane than our Livingstone.Oh,its also cleaner. They also protect amabwe yabo, not us we dont do that to our Bela Bela, not even trees. No wonder our money is 650 times less in value,if you compare.I here even Malawian kwacha is higher!

  51. 71 DORIS
THE EXAMPLES IN THE REGION ARE PLENTY AND WELL SUITED TO OUR SITUATION AND ENVIRONMENT. I HAVE TRAVELLED VERY EXTENSIVELY AROUND THE REGION, NOT TO UK OR AMERICA NO. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT ZAMBIA EVERYTHING IS ABOUT UK AND AMERICA. POLICIES, IMAGE BUILDERS, LOANS AND WANTING TOURISTS AND EXPORTING IS ALL ABOUT THE TWO NATIONS.
BUT AS YOU RIGHTLY POINTED OUT WHY CAN’T WE LEARN FROM BOTSWANA ABOUT BEING MEAN WITH RESOURCES AND A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT. RSA ABOUT INFRASTRUCTURE BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE, MALAWI ABOUT BEING ORDERLY AND THEIR FISHERIES AND AGRICULTURE. NO, THEY ARE INFERIOR TO UK AND AMERICA. OUR LEADERS ARE NUTS AND FULL OF CIRCUS AND LAZYING AROUND ALL IN THE NAME OF WORKING.

  52. #70. KCM
I normally dont have affinity for shooting in the air. I love to aim and get to the point, resolve it and then get to the next. In an even I decide to carry out multiple tasks each of them must be well defined and clearly laid out. I never love to mingle and jungle things up and have no meaningful conclusion in end.
The topic is dealing with promotion of tourism, but I see that you seem to be touching a number of things that you seem to leave hanging without clear integretion to the topic in order to have a clearly harmonised conclusion.
Much as you have said much. I would like to know your clear contribution on the topic?

  53. # 15. Ze Mule
You are right, if zambians do not take advantage of the crisis in Zim, sorre maningi. Cos zim will rise.
I do not think we will take advantage. With all the white farmers we still have reports of starvation and flactuating nishima prices.
Zambia needs to concentrate 100% on farming and touarisim.
We should be feeding the rest of Africa.

  54. 73 FINE
MY CLEAR CONTRIBUTION TO PROMOTING TOURISM IS AND SIMPLY PUT.
    1. MAKE ACCESS BY AIR TO MOST PARKS POSSIBLE AND REALISTIC
    2. WORK AND GRADE TO ALL YEAR PASSABLE STANDARDS, THE ROADS LEADING TO AND IN PARKS
    3. IMPROVE COMMUNICATION, RADIO, TV, INETRNET AND TELEPHONE TO PARKS AND AREAS NEARER PARKS.
    4. MAKE IT EASIER FOR LODGE AND GUEST HOUSES IN PARKS TO ACCESS SUPPLIES THAT MAKE A TOURIST COMFORTABLE AT PARKS AND LODGES.

DO YOU NEED MORE. IS THIS NOT WHAT WE EXPECT FROM A LEAST POINT OF VIEW RB TO BE ARTICULATING.

  55. FINE
I CAN EXPAND MY POINTS NOW.
    1. A TOURIST NEEDS TO MAKE MINIMUM CONNECTIONS TO GET TO HIS/HER DESTINATION IF THEY HAVE TO GO.
    2. A TOURIST IS NOT ONE OUT FOR A VENTURE OF GETTING STUCK IN THE MUD FOR HOURS ON END.
    3. A TOURIST IS NOT GOING TO HELL BUT TO RELAX AND BE IN TUNE WITH THE WORLD AND WORK PLACE IF POSSIBLE
    4. A TOURIST SHOULD EAT AND DRINK WHAT THEY KNOW AND NOT MUNKOYO TO LEAVE THEM WITH A RUNNING TUMMY AFTER A VACATION.

FINE I AGREE WITH TOU TOTALLY, RB IS BUT A PRECISE LIVING EXAMPLE OF SHOOTING OFF TARGET YOU HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT.

  56. FINE
I FORGOT, YOU WILL TELL ME CHILUBA AND SATA AND LEVY LEFT BAD ROADS LEADING TO AND IN THE PARKS. THEY LEFT NO AIRPORTS AND COMMUNICATION TARGETING PARKS. THEY LEFT NO LOGISTICS TO ENABLE LODGE OWNERS TO ACCESS SUPPLIES.
THAT IS WARPED, MYOPIC AND DEFEATIST ATTITUDE INHERENT IN MOST OF US ZAMBIANS AND RB INCLUSIVE. NO WONDER MOST OF US THINK, LIFE IS ABOUT GETTING DRUNK AND SOBERING UP TO PROBLEMS AND FAILING TO SOLVE THEM AND THUS JUST GET DRUNK. WHAT A VICIOUS CIRCLE THIS IS. ZAMBIA IS IN FOR A BLAME PRONE ATTITUDE AND WORST OFF GOVT.

  57. #75. KCM
Good contribution, I guess you are on the same side as RB.
RB has said his govt is making effort to improve tourism. This effort I believe includes, among other things, what you have just said.
Of course you and I do not expect to see these things at the begining of RB’s effort but at the end of his effort.
No one has ever started a project with results and end up with effort but the resverse is true.
Therefore it is premature to judge RB at the Sart of his effort.
Let me say this: Chiluba was judged ‘great’ at the start but his result was terrible, LPM was judged ‘least’ at the start but was judget far much greater the Chiluba at the end.

  58. FINE
I LOVE THE WAY YOU TWIST FACTS TO SUIT YOUR ARGUMENTS.
RB HAS NOT SHOWN ANY OF THE TRAITS OF BEING A GOOD LEADER. HIS START AND ENDING WILL BE CATASTROPHIC TO SAY THE LEAST. HE HAS MISPLACED PRIORITIES AND LACKS POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

BUT HOPE THE WAY YOU SUPPORT HIM IS THE WAY HE IS GOING TO SUPPORT HIS WORDS OR REORIENTING TOURISM TO DRIVE THE ECONOMY OF THIS COUNTRY.
GOOD DAY MATE, I NEED TO BE PRODUCTIVE AND I AM OFF THE COMPUTER AND BLOG FOR NOW.

  59. RB must have the record for being blamed for everything that has gone wrong in Zambia even before he became president and even vice president. I’m sure the global econimic crisis will be blamed on him. The situation in Zimbabwe will be blamed on him, the Israeli’s bombing Palestine will most likely be blamed on RB as well. The floods in Zambia due to heavy rainfall will be blamed on RB, actually the heavy rains will be blamed on him. Emmanuel Kasonde dying is probably RB’s fault. ZESCO not upgrading the grid YEARS AGO is also RB’s fault as well is it? Be serious people.

  60. Bane a Holiday, is a fundamental requirement, in fact holidays should be encouraged to avoid strokes on our leaders because this can lead to expensive state funeral…..

  61. 77. KCM,
It is not miopic to know where you are starting from.
Knowing about the past is essential for you to understand where you are and define where you are going.
In fact without knowing your past you will not know where you are going, if at all you start off.
It is high miopic attitude to avoid analysing and acknowledging your mistakes and this is what leaders in the past have been doing and going nowhere.

  62. #81 Thank you! KK used to go to Mfuwe and so did Levy. Not sure about FTJ maybe he preferred the “high” life and wasn’t interested . So when RB goes on holiday it’s wrong. The man was thrown into the deep end having to cover as acting President and then becoming President.

He was exemplary. Don’t any of you think that he might need a rest. All presidents go for a break which they are entitled too. It seems a man in his 70s, who has worked tirelessly cannot be afforded that. He’s doing a job that some us wouldn’t even manage with youth on our side. You may insult him but he hasn’t lowered himself to use such filthy language & retaliate….diplomacy bane!

  63. Ladies and Gentlemen,

We(group of Zambians) are starting a company in the UK to market Zambia as a tourist destination. We would like to hear any ideas of how we can tap into the UK market. Somebody mentioned Zambia not featuring on UK high streets compared to South Africa and Kenya, how can we make Zambia feature more with travel agents on UK high streets? Any comments and suggestions are welcome. One blogger called Peter, we would like to hear the ideas you had for marketing Zambia in the UK as well.

Thank you for reading and happy 2009 and beyond.

  64. STRANGE THAT THE PRESIDO SHOULD TAKE AN EARLY HOLIDAY. EARLY BECAUSE HE IS FRESH IN STATEHOUSE. THEN WHILE ON HOLIDAY, PEOPLE KEEP DROPPING BY!? WHY DIDN’T THEY WISH HIM A MERRY XMAS WHILE HE WAS STILL IN LUSAKA? NOW THEY HAVE TO FLY INTO MFUWE!!?? BY THE WAY, ITS A NIGHTMARE TO DRIVE THERE BECAUSE THE ROAD IS VERY DAMAGED AND HORRIBLE. THEN THE HOLIDAYMAKER IS EVEN HAVING PRIVATE TALKS WITH CHIEFS IN THE AREA. NI HOLIDAY YASHANI!!??:-? SOUNDS LIKE IT IS WORK AND NOT HOLIDAY. ITS A WORKING TRIP TO EASTERN PROVINCE.

  65. 84, MARKETING ZAMBIA IN THE UK IS A BRILLIANT IDEA. I BELIEVE OUR COUNTRY IS MEGA BEAUTIFUL. I WISH YOU WELL IN THIS ENDEAVOUR. I SUGGEST YOU STEAL IDEAS FROM MARKETING STRATEGIES USED BY SOUTH AFRICA. MANY PEOPLE CURRENTLY BELIEVE THE VICTORIA FALLS IS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND A SHORT PLANE RIDE AWAY FROM JO’BURG! THE REST BELIEVE IT IS IN ZIMBABWE ONLY. SO PLEASE, WORK WELL AND VERY HARD. I ALSO SUGGEST YOU WORK CLOSELY WITH THE BRITS IN ZAMBIA WHO HAVE BEAUTIFUL LODGES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE. THEY ARE QUITE A NUMBER.

  66. Zambia missed it’s opportunity they have been talking about tourism for the past 20 yrs with no progress. The problem is Leadership at all levels of society business leaders political leaders

  67. Promoting tourism requires getting the fundamentals right. Zambia can improve tourist numbers in the short term by simply:
    – improving road conditions
    – setting and enforcing high standards for public transport operators for vehicles, drivers, comfort etc
    – Ensuring speedy transfers from airports to tourist destinations
-Initiating a program for improving standards of service in hotels, and lodges
-A guide book or comprehensive website on what is available for tourists would also help

We also need to get people to understand that the Vic falls are not just in Zimbabwe!!

  68.
