KK preaches love among Zambians

Share

First Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda, has advised Zambians to embrace love and forgiveness in order to help achieve national unity.

Dr Kaunda said love is a cornerstone of efforts to achieve sustainable unity in the country.

He said this at the commemoration of the United Church of Zambia, UCZ, St. Andrews Congregation Golden Jubilee in Lusaka today.

He said love is the fundamental teaching that Jesus gave to people and should therefore be embraced by all Zambians regardless of tribe and color.

Dr Kaunda bemoaned the existing situation in the country where leaders were in the habit of insulting each other instead of learning to exercising love for on another.

“When you point fingers at your friend and call them names the other fingers are pointing at you meaning you are on the wrong,” he said.

He recalled that Zambia at independence used the One-Zambia One-nation motto which helped in achieving unity for all the 73 tribes in the country.

“One Zambia one nation was a good teaching that was embraced at independence in 1964, it helped us (Indians, Europeans, all whites and the 73 tribes) to be united without it we could not have been united and helped other countries gain independence,” he said.

Speaking earlier,UCZ St. Andrew’s Congregation Secretary, Benson Mucchelemba, said the church has in the last 50 years seen an increase in membership from 50 to Nine hundred members.

Meanwhile UCZ synod General Secretary, Chrispine Mbalazi, commended St. Andrews for its commitment and dedications toward the construction of the new church.

Rev. Mbalazi said the church has shown its commitments through the sacrifice shown even in the last 50 years the church has been in existence.

Other activities that characterized the commemoration of the golden jubilee where poems by children, singing and memory, music from choirs and the boy’s brigade band.

  12. No. 7, you said,”I respect KK but preaching love meanwhile bantu batofwa sala, dude has money and there’s hunger in the nation.”

You obviously know little about the work KK has been doing since leaving office – If you are interested in learning about what he has done for the disadvantaged, you will do well to start with the KK Aids Foundation.

  13. I want to share this song which a friend of mine composed.

Kaunda tumutotele yee. Kaunda tumutotele ye. Kaunda tumutotele kwena alibomba. Asambilshya na ka Chiluba yee kwena kalipona. Abika na UBZ kwena yalibomba. But Kaunda tumutotele yee. Watch this song on Youtube – good stuff. Ka Chiluba is the gretest f**l we ever entrusted with power.

  14. Da speech was excellent,no doubt about dat. Da bad part of it is only da poor will get da word “Love.” Hope with time pipo will be specifying da Love in their topics or rather how to practice it.
KK did a lot or work,he’s great but just as nature has it, every man has his downs. So lets not argue over spilt milk.
Keep it up KK, u’re still living for a poupose.Try straighten da trees you were shading from the sun, a bit, please. Our current Leaders and their actions are ur products.
Just like it will be, da next generation will be their production.
“A small step for man, is a huge jump for mankind.”

  15. I’m Lozi and the only problem i have with Bemba’s is that they expect everyone to know Bemba, guess what, it’s not the official language English is x(.

  16. I have no regrets for what KK did but praise. NO civil war or tribal clashes because of how Zambians laid a united foundation under his leadership. Yes we may blame him for the economy but we can surely praise him for our peace and love.

  17. May God grant you more days and Good health papa. You had free education for all from nursery to university. We love you.

  18. #5 you are in the wrong already what you are doing is pointing finger but the four fingers are pointing at you it is you who is tribal and left in in the tribal notion.

  19. #5 you are practising tribalism what makes you think tribalists are from North western,Southern and Western.

When the Bembas and Ngonis are the culprits. Bembas can stay any where in Zambia but they will not speak any other language except Bemba and English. They will say ukufwa ndeufwa nomba ukulanda a problem. This is a sign of tribalism because you always what to associate yourself to Bemba and your tribal cousins the Ngonis.

Stop it that is not one Zed one nation

  20. We need to here more of this. But even more our history and what makes us what we are. What sacrifices we made. Our children know more about George Washington than our own liberators and founders. We need to ensure 25 years from now we will still have youths that can be called PATRIOTS else katwishi. We already have a crop of them that cant recite the anthem and have never known the preamble to our constitution… “We the

  23. I am a result of One Zambia, One nation. Mum hailing from the North and dad from the West. I ‘ve got two Kings, you know, Chitimukulu and Litunga! What a wealth of cross polination. KK, Mwanakatwe, Nkumbula, Kapwepwe, all our founding fathers, I salute you =d> You did Zambeziland proud.

#26 Lozi- I have relatives on both my parent’s side who are trapped in regional feelings. Some have chosen to cross the tribal barrier others are hanging on to tribal hooks.

#19 White hankie is a symbol of inner and outer love for peace. Since Mudala Wesu cannot carry inkunda (a dove) all the time, the white hankie is the spirit of peace around him. Ifyapalako ifyo…

  24. #26 LOZI

My friend, move on. Tribalism wont take you anywhere. One Zambia..?
KK is telling you how we need to live and there you are going backwards! No need for such talk. Like i said, move on.

  25. I hope this message seeps into the very being of all of us especially certain bloggers who have made some unfortunate remarks on tribal basis.

We all need to stick together through love hope and peace and believe that we can change our country for the better together regardless of our tribe, sex or race. We are all Zambians at the end of the day and what we do and say should be for the good of our country.

Love and Peace to you all and all the best in 2009.

  26. # 28/29 show some respect. We wouldn’t be enjoying your freedom without KK and the other freedom fighters so show some respect.

KK is in his late eighties building houses and is an AIDS activist. He has no quarrel with FTJ. FTJ acted in such an unvirtous manner to even declare KK stateless (oh sorry the courts did that) and arrest him on Christmas day remember? KK left that quarrel and is doing good for the underprivileged.

Where’s FTJ? Sick and attending court sessions. Says it really. KK is a man of peace. He made his mistakes but is making up for it.

  27. #26 No body forces anybody to use bemba. Try visiting other provinces in Zambia. Bemba is used in all provinces. Its just that lozis have this hatred for bembas. Ala bututu. Bemba is easier to use and its a sweet language.

If the lozis were as many as the bembas, they would have been war. Your eyes are always on who has done this, this and that. If its a lozi that has achieved something, it will be an issue. That’s why western province will never develop.

  28. Zambian-American, sorry, you should know that Lozis, Tongas & Kaondes mean well not easily intimidated by the Bembas, KK you are a man we are for you.

  29. # 41 sister, your post is not very supportive of KK’s message. The best thing to do my sister is IGNORE offensive tribal comments, no matter how upset they make you. And there are many that find bemba a crude, vulgar language too. Just as some find it nice.
Don’t feed the troll!!!! One Love, let’s get togethor and feel alright…………..

  30. people its not Lozi at fault but that # 5 guy who thinks Lozis, Tongas & Kaondes are tribal. don’t just blame lozi for nothing, i know you are all bembas, why cant criticize that Zambian-American? are you all in support of him? what a shame to those bembas. I am Kaonde/Tonga

  31. Please, send constructive comments and not nonsense. Leave that for use during your leisure time with friends who canunderstand you better.
Ba KK, twatotela pa citemwiko mucita preach. The only problem is that the same love you preach is not in you. Are you not equal to a hypocrite? Am not your judgeanyway,. Your God who knows you better will judge you. [-(

  32. Pipo, da more u talk about tribalism the more u sound like one. Tonga ! Lozi ! Bemba ! …. where are u located? In da village or u’re only dating tribe mates where ever are go? Think twice b4 talking about tribalism. Which side will Zambians like 36 “Chanda Musyalike ” belong if this tribalist – tribalism discussion continues. We’re identified as Zambians in da world & not by our tribes. Da tribe identity was b4 we opened out to da outside world.Find something better to talk about guys.
P.S.Sorry dat u’re my example 36 “Chanda Musyalike.”

  33. gelogelo rightly said DONT FEED THE TROLL. #44. Am technically not Bemba but come from Northern Province. Many would call be Bemba. Deep inside I look forward to a Zambia that celebrates the Kuomboka from Nakonde to there where many votes come from on the other side. We long covered this topic.

    I pledge allegiance to **==.
    Correct order:
    1. I am Christian
    2. I am Zambian
    3. I am Bisa

The rest, both good and bad follow in preferably a random order.
