Action Network Advisory on Small Arms, ANASA, has welcomed government’s response to calls of purchasing bullet proof vests for Police officers.
ANASA Director, Charles Mulenga, said the introduction of bullet proof vests is a milestone in efforts of securing the lives of Police officers.
Mr. Mulenga told ZANIS in Lusaka that his organisation is confident that the bullet proof vests would help improve the response from officers to criminal activities in all parts of the country.
“As an NGO that is involved in educating and disseminating the public about peoples rights on the use of small and light weapons, we are very much happy about government’s move to consider introducing bullet proof vest to the security personnel because this will help police officers to respond to and combat crime,” he said.
“In this case there will be less killing of Police officers and instead more action by officers to arrest criminals,” he observed.
Mr Mulenga also commended the Zambia Police Service for its courage in the fight against crime in all parts of the country.
Further, Mr Mulenga called on both the local and international non-governmental organisations to take keen interest in educating the public on the dangers of exposing small and light weapons to the public.
He said the use of small and light weapons should be discouraged at all levels of society as they could be used in committing criminal offenses.
ZANIS /GS/ENDS/SJK
They should have had them 30 years ago
So far you are
congraturation. but dont shoot students at unza.
I hear Shikapwasha when he was at home affairs alilyamo muli deal iyi, he must be investigated.
But please tell them a bullet proof vest doesn`t make you invisible. Pantu bena kuti baya mukupweneka kuli AKA ati after all ninkwata i vest. :d:d:d
Mr Mulenga should have taken this same opportunity to tell the same officers to use rubber bullets to the demonstrating masses.
Police now have the right to shoot to kill, I suppose
bullenbt proof vests!!! What about their heads? may be they have bullet proof skulls. the answer lies in technology and education not vests!! soon the vests would have lice!!
Good day to you fellow bloggers. Hope you’d a great weekend.
What about us, the citizens?? we are also at risk of being shot, because these officers like going on shooting spree at times ,just in case you are caught up in a fracas! :d
Man U 4 life Gumu Gumu 4 life
Procurement of bullet proof vests is welcome.life is precious and should be protected since cops are exposed to danger due to the nature of their work.
What Govt needs to do perhaps, is to make such procurements methods more transparent, because there ‘ve been a lot of scandal regarding purchase of these vests.
#1
Are you not aware of Lt’s new rules???? You will be replaced by #2 very soon!
Baby C!
Its true especially after taking chibuku they become uncontrollable these police officers.
Lusaka
Hi mwana. Nice to have you back!
Manje tizabvutika na vest aya! These chaps need to be educated over these things Others will think its a fashion trend and will be wearing them carelessly on weekends!! Others will start patronising pubs in bullet proof vests. Others will be wearing them when its cold thinking they are body warming accesories!
They should be told that they are bullet proof vest to be used when enganging the enemy (criminals, not students), and that they dont guarantee life. They should not be worn when sleeping at home at night and they dont protect you from HIV!!
The Executive Issue of last year October did dwell on the Bullet proof issue in which it alleged that Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha may have got a “brown envelope” from one of the bidder. One of the Zambian bidder cried foul after witnessing the unfare handling of bids and excessive interference by the Gen. his PS at MHA. This issue is known by ACC but they can’t act becoz the Gen. is still in govt. We just hope the truth will come out one day and justice will take its course. The next govt in 2011 should revive this matter as soon as they take office so that the taxpayers know the truth. Watch out!!!8-x
editedBaby C, are sure you need a bullet proof vest

Ba Moze, Ba Moze. you have made me laugh. I understand some of the vests are oversize and for the skinny Lozi cops, they will be like dresses!!

Lady Chiza
True story mudala. Sibamvela banyamata!
Great gesture for the uniformed men and women.I hope each officer has a pair and non less of such vests. It really had been long overdue :)>-:d

Is that the only thing you can think of???? Change lady Chiza please! By the way, Lt will soon delete your dirty comment!!! watch that space
KASAMA Catholic Archbishop James Spaita has disclosed that during his meeting with President Rupiah Banda, he appealed to the head of state to reconcile with Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata in the interest of the nation.
They’ll just be selling them. The way they sell their AK47s.
The bullet proof vests should only be used when they’re dealing with hard core criminals who are also armed. Please can someone educate them on this one
I contributed coz I thought the stiry was quoting NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Little did I know that the story quotes Alangizi, mama we!

is it a proposal or they are nw in the hands of the cops? coz balandapofye lyonse.
#14 Ba moze, very funny and it seems a first time to most of them, i wonder if they even got one in training colleges for demos!!!
Zambians all around are already googling vest manufactures to prep up for a tender. Or is it a supplier has already been found? 😕 ZP should go directly to the source and buy from there. Don’t through a third party that will aim at a 200% markup as is the trend of doing business in Zambia. That way every officer on the beat can have a vest.
Safety first
LT
Whats happening to my Postings !!!
Lady Chiza
I told you!Check your #16 comment :d
Bullet proof vests do not stop AK47 rounds so unless these police are fighting thieves with mpebemla nsokele it is a waste of money. Seeing that this is Zambia police they will probably buy the cheapest ones which are only safe at distances of 500 metres using low calibre weapons.

#30 Truth,
cant see my postings as well, but laguage ili chee ka!! LT why??
Jenks even simple words like s i l l y are filtered on LT. It is considered an insult in Zambia.
You can never call Teta s i l l y man. I bet someone was thinking in bemba or some language from back home. It`s amazing really.
My friend in Iraq had a bullet proof vest. He was shot in the head and died![-(
#33 jenks
The behaviuor of LT leaves much to be desired. My language was more than polite but still my postings cant be reflected.
LT
Are you having problems with your system editors or you are just failing lamentably in your duties?.Please i appreciate your free services but its pissing off.
Ba Moze @#14 😡
Thats so funny i tell you!! you are right though.
………is there any Bullet Proof helmet or headsock because i think robbers will be aiming at policemen`s heads not chests…so do something ba FBI have something for the head…
man what a third wold country we live in,still don’t have such equipment for our police force.but first solve the hunger crisis, then look into such issues:((:”>:”>:”>:”>:”>:”>:d:d:d:d:d:d:x:x:x:x:x
It’s a good idea, but I just hope they don’t fall in the hands of criminals like police guns. Or else, citizens are in trouble.:-:-:-:-
Other will start selling these items when they are broke!!
Evelyn King.
Iam so sorry my comment on #44 I was refering to namayo the director of Tourism please that comment it was not for you.Hope you understand, but all the same I think I was also wrong to call the Director on tourism ati namayo.
Baza nunka cibe bad!
kwasila..they will be traded for chibuku :))
#24, SISTER..are you trying to say they should only be worn when they are dealing with hardcore criminals?..and how on earth are they suppose to figure that out??..crime hapens 24 7, its like saying dont move with a gun until you are met with criminals carrying guns…
#28 Life_life please go for your medicals, you are a danger to yourself. Your postings on Mpombo’s treasonable utterances suggest you must visit a loon doc, urgently as a matter of fact. The Post editorial on the issue are far frm being treasonable as you suggested. Pls check yourself in, its free afterall. We the tax payer will pick your tab, ok.
:-@
My dear Muntuza. Sadly I will not sink to your level of childish behaviour. Spare yourself whatever respect you are eroding.
#48, in your earlier thread you insinuated that the Post editorial was treasonable in nature, and its on that basis that I have put very humble recommendation to save you from yourself. I do not want us to engage in filth or whaterver but for the love of me, please heed the call.
#45 In Zambia my dear, all sorts of things will be happening. Just because a police officer knows he is covered, bullets will be flying all over.
oh my! our country is so behind 😮 i thot those things were already available pa Zed
THIS IS GLORIOUS GOOD NEWS. I HAVE FRIENDS IN THE POLICE SERVICE AND AM ALWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. CONGRATES FOR THE BULLET PROOF VESTS. OUR SERVICE MEN/WOMEN DESERVE THE BEST TREATMENT IN THEIR WORK TO PROTECT OUR CITIZENS. ALL THOSE FORMER NABOYE STUDENTS IN THE SERVICE PLEASE KEEP THE STANDARDS. PROUD OF YOU GUYS!
THOUGH LATE ITS STILL GOOD NEWS. 🙂
#42,
Dont worry sana. Ba Evelyn King must have heard your plea. The problem on this blogg is some people take others for granted and show no respect at all torwards one another.. It pays to take a minute, analyse the person you want to reply to personally. Others get offended easily.
e.g you have clearly stated you are a student, everyone who understands you better must be your same level intellectual/mentality.(no offense meant) just good advice.:)>-:)>-:)>-
good news indeed. at least kamudala kandi will be chest protected.
But sure what about the head…owee kamudala kafwa mwee bantu.
:-j:-j:-j:-j:-j:-j
Kasama Boys, shani boyi, get in touch. Bullet proof vests are not barriers to bullet deaths, if not properly used,a lot of our mpombozi will die. I assume training on usage will be part of deployment. Also, how many are we talking about? I wont be surprised if the vests become fashion accessories for ba bwana and foot cops getting none. Watch this space.
:-j:-j:-j:-j:-j:-j yayaya this should have been pa Zed long ago.Just buy them and dont kill my brothers at UNZA and CBU
it seems become a cop in zambia is not so bad after all.first the big motorcycles and now bullet proof vests, how about free coffee and doughnuts for breakfast to come with it? <:-p<:-p<:-p
bullet proof vests based on what assessments – zambia doesnt have a culture of gang violence. So they will have vests when they lack basic resources like proper IT for better policing. This is a waste of money for one of the poorest countries in the world.
This bullet proof issue for Police started when I was in Grade X in ZED,10 yrs ago. The Govt has done alot of talking over the same we now need action.
#1, they should have started using them 44 years ago.
oh i can just see it!one officer yells @ thug:”si unga ni menye,na vala burret ploof!” :d:d:d
Not that I am preaching violence but tuma vest itu kawalala anga chite aim ku muthu (head)
Ba kabolala balatukwa uno mwaka kuli ba ZP..ati :-\” “u cant kill me. i wear a vest at all times…”
Soon we will start hearing of criminals wearing these vests. You shoot a criminal before you know it he’s up and running. Afterall its not like such a thing has not happened before, we have heard of criminals using POLICE guns
Police officers deserve full ballistic protection. They should’ve thought of this way back.
