CHAN Team Biggest Loser From SA Friendly

Share

Zambia yesterday lost 1-0 to South Africa in a friendly game of contrasting halves played at Super Stadium in Pretoria.

The match did little for the CHAN-bound players than those that will face Egypt away in a 2010World/Africa Cup Group C qualifier on March 29 in Cairo.

Maverick striker Makundika Sakala was, as expected poor, in the first half before being substituted by another uninspiring replacement Agrippa Mbewe who just solidified the theory that they are no tangible attacking portions in Zambia.

However, one winner was a trim-looking Collins Mbesuma who showed some added pace throughout.

Mbesuma showed some serious team-player spirit tracking back into midfield in a poor second half after Henry Banda and eventually Noah Chivuta were replaced by another ineffective pair: Stanley Banda and Simon Bwalya in the 52nd and 69th minutes respectively.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Mweene was outstanding in goals after making some dramatic saves for Mhabuti Khanyeza and Teko Modise.

Of the best local CHAN prospects, Henry Banda did himself justice with an inspiring performance and was influential throughout the 52 minutes he was on the park.

So too was Green Eagles’ Zesco United-bound midfielder Kebby Hachipuka who completed an almost flawless 90 minutes.

Goalkeeper Jacob Banda of Zesco continued to show a lack of judgment during set-pieces with Modise’s goal from a free-kick in the 53rd minute a clear point in question.

And how with the Cameroon friendly called off after the Indomitable Lions decided to play Guinea instead on February 11, Zambia will be without a critical CHAN build-up.

A great opportunity to feature a full CHAN team was lost for Tuesday’s game and it’s looking bleak for the team when the team kicks off against host Cote d’Ivoire on February 22 in Abidjan.

  1. Eish abena choma 1. Mwanchinga.

Now let me comment. I watched the game the all 90min. Actually it was Bafana Bafana vs Kennedy Mweene (GK). The rest of the players muleumfwafye. Ala chansoni sana. All the players with the exception of Mweene, were worse. Although the worst was Makundika Sakala. This is the worst Zambian player I have watched from the time I started watching chipolopolo. This guy is not even fit to play for a club in the Zambia premier league. Thiose watched will agre with me.

  2. Our local players won’t perfom miracles in CHAN looking at the perfomance they displayed yersterday,it was below par,and without the inclusion of south african pro’s it could have been a different story, anyway thanks to our defenders and Mbesuma upfront who had no partner to help him. **==**==**==**==**==

  3. Hope we learnt something from that game. I do not rate friendlies as such. As long the boys had a run out, that`s all that matters.

  4. The performance from the entire team except goalie mweene was pathetic to say the least. Mbesuma is not even a shadow of himself, Tana kept on making unnecessary tackles. I think he is the one who costed us the free kick where Teko Modise scored from.

South Africa lacks the basic knowledge of football as well. They could not score more goals even after having 20 shots on goal. They will be an embarrassment to the continent come June during the Confederation cup. Why are the mighty fallen?

  5. When you are watching from the Screen, the game was thrilling, but truth is Zambia is a shame to watch live.Mweene was otustanding, the rest of the team was a shame.Tana, in particular was a mess

  6. **==

since most donations are coming from asia, let us have some players interms of donations or cordial relations, maybe twakulaeshako, othawise its long time we shouted weeelee to zed….:d/

  7. Fake Faz, Fake Coach – too much nchekelako ba Kalu. This is just the beginning, we are yet to – just wait, ba zambia.

  8. All is not lost but we needed dependable strikers like Kola, sakahuwa and given singuluma. How do you expect debutants to score against a team that has played countless friendlies.
Lets hope we have not lost our coach

  9. We went wrong to hire this physical trainer.Bring back that Phiri muntu. Most of the teams that are doing well have indigenous coaches. On the FIFA chart we are trailing beneath UGANDA! and Burundi can give us a lashing! My goodness…let me work up from this bad dream.

  10. Whats happening with FAZ?
    Whats hapenning with our coach?
    Whats hapening with Mbesuma?
Something must be done by the Minister of Sport.
The team which lost yesterday must not go to Africa cup next month
    apart from KENNEDY MWEENE.
    Drop Mbesuma please.

  11. Vote of no confidence – Kalusha and Munaile. Actually we will do a petition, like ifya mapassport. Pls do not forget to petition. Peace

  12. As at now we don’t even have a coach. Since Renard resigned.
This poor team will be worse now. Thats why they are now called Chipante Pante. They have no direction

  13. We ve failed as far as soccer is concerned.I therefore do not even see anyway that our Zambian soccer will tramendously improve anytime soon.
But BOXING has improved rather tramendously and would be less riskier to bet on

  14. Kalusha bwalya and marcha chilemena were in the grand stand. They must have been embarrassed with the performance of the lads. Just as well I did not go to pretoria to watch the game. At least Man Utd brightened my night after they humiliated WBA by 5-0….

  15. Don’t worry the chaps gonna spring a surprise at CHAN 09. Conceading a goal to South Africa at noght is not a bad result. Mind most of the boys might have been playing under floodlight for the first time.
Sometimes our chaps take long to settle down when playing in modern ultra stadiums. They get confused instead of concetrating on the ball the ball their gaze at the surrounding environment. If palying in front of the local fans on open pitches like Woodlands Stadium, they do their best. FAZ and local league ensure that players get conditioned to all sorts situation day and night games.

  16. Looking at the performance yesterday. It was really embarased & could not even watch upto the last minute. I wonder whether you fellow Zedians back home even go to the stadiums to watch those boys.

Seriuosly there is alot of change management needed both from FAZ point of view and the entire league system. These boys dont even look very health on the pitch as compared to their counter parts, no stamina, i wonder if they have a health balanced diet. How are they going to compete with the West & North African who show alot of phisic. Kalusha Bwaly & his entire management are doing practically nothing!!! Even amakula is a nice word to describe those chipolopolo boys. Infact change the name.

  17. #14 and Leon#8 you are quite right. It looked like a game between FAZ Division two North and South. Both teams were unimpressive but Zambia were worse. Very poor ball control except for Litana and Mbesuma. Mbesuma needs to work hard to return to form. I could see a strategy that wasn’t working. but why did the coach chicken out?

  18. We are finished! finished like VJ! Lets just admit! we are heading nowere!we better forget about the world cup , coz it will be a waste of tax payers money! Kalu and his clowns are responsible for this. Not to mention Renard who is here for a holiday! I dont see the reason why we are still clinging onto him. He is not a messiah, or is he?

  19. Patric Phiri is doing agood job in Tanzania, could this be a sign that he must come back? soccer to me is a mystery can we have comments from LT soccer experts

  20. Loox lyk our futbo haz gone in recess. But it waz nice 2c Marcha wave to the veiwerz back home, he sure was having a nice tym despite our Zed team not performing. I lyk ichimwela pa SA.

  21. …..they played like they had way too much to eat before the match. Nichani kansi, kuli njala ku Zed? :d. The game was way too painful to watch:-w

  22. Ba 28 mudala you are right or maybe netball. I am sure they girls can do far much better. Awe 😮 Tefyo bataya bola filya kwena~X(

  23. I suggest we try Lwandamina for a change. Patrick Phiri has had his time – ankala chabe muchipuna nangu mulelusa nokulolesha amaplayers kwati chipululu ukwabula ukuchinja game plan. Let also boot out Fake Faz (Kalu, Munaile, Chilemena, Kasengele – vipuba ivi, too much nchekelako bakudya na mubafana monga Mayuka alibe vilivonse – Shame bapompwe). Let us try Hanif, at least niwanzelu ukuchila ba Kalu. Wht do you think, genuine Zambian soccer lover?

  24. Honestly guys how can we have a good team if some of our players are running away, goin for trails in Europe when it’s time for preperation.

  25. Freindly matches like this one can be used to gauge how well prepared a team is for the next real match(es). If we can use the encounter with bafana bafana as a litmus paper, Zambia is not ready for CHAN 2009 or any big team. This must be taken as a wake up call for Kalu and his mates in FAZ. Infact Kalu should spend more time working on Technical support for the National Team than the ‘Business’ side of things. South Africa does not have a strong team for us to fail to beat them, they were not even better than us.

Amongst the many areas of urgent improvement, the lads also need psycological support to win matches.

  26. Ba Zambia, pantu balusa napashilingile. Kuti mwawinanokuwina na ba Macha Chilemena baleweva abantu pa Z ukumona fye camera!! anione anione –

  27. The coach did a right thing to resign. He now knows that the national team is full of raw materials which can’t be turned into finished products. Those calling for Patrick Phiri you are also sinking with the team. Lets look foward to a different coach other than the tested ones.Ndomfwa insoni sana ine.

  28. LET THE WOMEN SHOW YOU GUYS HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL.

LADIES , IF ANYONE IS INTRESTES, LETS MEET ON SUNDAY FOR TRAINING.
THE MEN ARE WELCOME TO WATCH US.

    CHIPOLOPOLO IS DEAD AND BURIED.

  29. Let us show some respect… the boys as far from Bafana…
I think they tried based on the fact that ba coach seem not to bother..win or lose…its oky

  30. Reading through the comments, i get the sense that Zambians have false hopes about the team. Anyone who follows Zambian football week in week out in terms of the league, will surely not have any hope about Zambian football. This year I have watched more than 20 league games here in Lusaka, mostly the so called big teams. There are simply no players bretheren. Even those players who have gone for trails are no where near “national team matererial”, no wonder they are going for trials in non descript leagues. This situation is going to be with us for a long time, unless something drastic is done about football development in general.

  31. I have said before that we need to revisit our grassroots if tangible results are to come.meanwhile mourning continues.

  32. FAZ has no proper grassroot youth development programs and all they are working with comes from ill prepared clubs who have coaches using traditional coaching methods. How can you depend on players who are coached by non credited coaches. These coaches and clubs do not even understand simple things like player motivation, proper nutrition and player management.

  33. Next time we will win its just that our players were using a 5-5-0 formation with no one to score. Keep it! for doing well in the BIKILONI formation. VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO

  34. I was at the stadium. Am still ashamed with what I saw. Are those chaps from Chibolya Youth Academy?? Kalu and his henchmen should wake up before it is too late. How can you have a national team player who cant control the ball. That tall chap called Makundika Sakala likula bad. Mweene was outstanding and Tana managed to contain the rampaging Kanyeza and Modise. Mbesuma still has a lot of homework to do but you could see some old skills in him. The rest are a bunch of crap players.

  35. I blame our Government, not Kalu and the Administrators. If you are following football trends in Zambia, you shall see that no FAZ administration has been successfull of late. The success of the game depends on how much funds the association/Country has to spend on development.Ever since ZCCM was scrapped off, problems started, why, coz currently money made from copper sells does not stay in our country. The Gov is always complaining of luck of funds(look at Independence Stadium). So,since 1996,things started going down for Mother Zambia, let us trace back the root cause of the problem.

  36. I wacthed the whole game Zambia was totally outplayed.I thot lwandamina could read the lines that the combination between sakala and mbesuma did not work. There is still a lot to do if we are to perform at the CHAN in Ivory Coast. I love soccer and the Zambia National Team, but i was very disappointed to see how our guys perfomed. The team is not there yet. lets sit down and build a team fellow country men and women.Zambia is very rich with football player. Why are you leaving potential players? What is FAZ doing with such kind of below par perfomance?.Come one guys lets do our jobs appropriately.

  37. Its a shame for our team and FAZ. But what do you expect from desperate FAZ management. Just imagine, Renard Picked a team of 18 players from the trials he conducted only to be told at the airport on depature by his assistant that the team had been changed by Kalu and Chilemena who even included his son from Afri Sport in the team. This did not please Renard thats how he did not travel with the team. Now Fellow Zambians, what do expect from such a team? We have to be serious with what we do as a nation. Just imagine we hire a Ranard pay him but we want to do the work for him. And for Kalu he had the Job a didnt deliver to us and thats how he gave up the job. Cheap politics.

  38. I totally agree with Leon, the zambian team was a total shame, they played the first half without a shot at the goal. Defender Elijah Tana couldnt keep the pace of players like Mabuti Kanyeza thats why he was so rough its simply means that the man has cheated his age and cant keep the pace (Mukalamba sana) and if its true Kalu and chilemena changed the team then Soccer in our beloved country is surely going to the Dogs or is it that the dogs have come to soccer?

  39. I read in the POST that Mr Kalusha Bwalya FAZ President was threatening to report Mayuka saga to FIFA. I wonder if Mr Bwalya knows what he is talking about. If there were under hand activities in the transfer of the player, I do not expect the FIFA to pat Mr Bwalya on the back for a “job well done.” Dr Julius Sakala has run soccer at both club and national level for as long as I can remember and therefore is more qualified in these matters than Mr Bwalya. And as an eminent lawyer the man will take all neccessary steps so as not to spoil the case. To Kalu is panicking and hoping that his friendship with Mr Blatter will play in his favour. Bola Panshi bane tatulapwa ukufwailisha ama facts

  40. Yes the Coach must be taken to the Baber Shop and thereafter be fired! some of us need Partrick Phiri back, the guy did us proud by returning COSAFA cup to ZED which Kalu failed before hijaking FAZ presidency.

  41. Sum1 explain; each time I watch the European club coaches substituting a player, I see Scolari or Wenger or Mourinho talking to the substitute and giving him instructions. They will usually be moving their arms this way and that way. When the new player goes into the field he immediately starts passing instructions to his teammates. However, when Zambia put in six players I saw no such thing. Chicken George was looking at the field like a Zombie and the player just jumps in to start playing. It reminded me of our 10 change goal 20 finish ball matches in the townships. Are we playing a different kind of football?

  42. This game started out with South Africa in all out attack, Zambia spent most of the 1st half defending until South Africa scored it was only then that the chipolo boys started to venture into the opponents half of the pitch. E.Tana was good in defence and K.Mwene saved zambia on numerours occasions, Mbesuma was average (no fireworks here) all in all South africa deserved to win. we were out played from start to finish!

  43. Ba Kalu whats wrong with your team you seem not to have direction. Is that Sakala also a soccer player? mulebako serious.

  44. Zambia 3 Ivory Coast nelya kwana mungwa. I am sure the guys who condemned the boys after the SA friendly are really surprised by the performance of what one of them called ‘ Ifisoso Boys’. Guys let us support the CHIPOLOPOLO boys all the way in the CHAN tourney. I know it is just one game but the general comments and result show that a Zambian team pulverised the much fancied host team. We simply outplayed them in front of 3 Heads Of State and 35000 fans.
That was a superb performance by the boys. Ba Zambia Iyee Ba Zambia Fipolopolo!
