Govt to recapitalize the Zambia Printing Company.

Share

Chief Government Spokesperson Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha says recapitalizing the company is the only solution government can use to address the current problems at the company.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, noted that his Ministry will ensure that operations at the company are revamped and workers who have lost their jobs are returned.

He disclosed that government will acquire new equipment which can also be used to generate resources for the company.

He said this to journalists shortly after addressing workers and management at Zambia Printing Company in Lusaka today.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha further assured that government will come up with the plan aimed at assisting the company to generate the required funds for its operations.

He also added that government will also ensure that workers welfare such as salaries are paid on time to enhance productivity at the printing company.

The Minster further commended workers for their sacrifice despite them operating under difficult conditions.

And Speaking earlier Company Deputy Director for Information John Moyo disclosed that the company owes Zambia Revenue Authority and Nation Pension Scheme K3.6 billion in unpaid taxes.

Mr. Moyo said the company is currently faced with a lot of problems and has since reduced its workforce from 215 to 30.

He noted that there is need for government to quickly decide on the status of the company before it completely stops operating.

He explained that the company also owes workers huge sums of money in salary arrears and benefits for retirees and widows.

He further called on government and other stakeholders to come on board and assist his company to procure modern machinery, adding that it is the only way it can compete favorably with other companies.

“I left my family and lost four years with them. I will ask them to forgive me,” he said.

Pablo is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who came to the United States to support his wife and five sons back home. When he arrived, construction jobs were plentiful. Over the last year, he says, he’s worked three days.

  9. How many companies in Zed needs to be recapitalize? What is important is agriculture. Recapitalize Nitrogin Chemicals of Zed first. It is 20years back wards ukutantamina ubunga. Oh.. RB is UNIP, so to him this is very normal! SADC has failed to remove Mugabe from office and all you can say is to feed them while we are starving. What do you understand about national planning Mr. RB? Nangu nipang’anda tatupela ba neba ubunga ngateti bukumane umwenshi. Wake up!

Pay retired worker and widows first, and then think of recapitalizing.

  10. Before i comment and commit a foul let me ask sumthing, Zambia Printing Company and Government Printing Dept are they one and the same? Am :o:o<:-p<:-p<:-p<:-pGud morning Darlings

  11. Why recapitalize ZPC what has gone wrong with GRZ Printing Dept. That department has a lot of idle capacity. ZPC is being recapitalize to create vacancies for MMD cadres. We have many printing companies in Zedi. We need to hear that NCZ has been recapitalize. Why cant not slice K100 Billion from FSP to recapitalize NCZ. Agriculture is very important. This way we will stop those who are importing GMO’s to feed the nation and surplus for export. We have enough agro economists at the ministry & I bigin to wonder if their professional advice is heeded by Politicians. Dr. Chitwansombo is giving more conflicting statements at Agric. Ministry may he should have been at MOD.

  12. Most of the remaining Parastatals should be wholly or partially privatised including NHA which has completely lost its direction.

  13. These Parastatals do not perform to the required standard though like NHA manage to balance thier books. NHA has contributed immensely to the lack of accomodation because while they have survived this long, they have only managed at the expense of their core function which was to provide cheap and affordable accomodation to the masses.

  14. ZPC used to print exam papers which are now printed in South Africa. Finshi ulelanda iwe Ronald Shikapwasha? People in government have no brains, they just want nichekeleko from South African companies. Even ballot papers, theese used to be printed at Government Printers on Nsadzu Road nomba fyonse mwatwala ku South. Imwe bafintu, we are not children.
