Passport renewal extended

Share

The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the passport renewal exercise from February 28 to May 31 2009.

Home affairs minister Kalombo Mwansa announced the extension of the exercise after touring the passports office and production unit, Monday.

Dr. Mwansa said government will not extend the passport renewal programme after the May 31st deadline.

He said the announcement has been necessitated to accommodate public appeal for the renewal exercise to be extended.

Dr. Mwansa however said government will not reduce the cost of acquiring the new paasport because the price comforms to the high quality of the travel document.

The minister also revealed that so far 26,890 passports have been printed while two thousand three hundred passports have not been collected.

  1. The period given is still not enough for everybody. The fee is also way out for an already overtaxed Zambian worker let alone those who are jobless and need to travel to make ends meet.

  2. I hear officers from the passport office sell old passport with visa to the Nigerians and than seed you your new passport.Kaleza kan’ng’ambe8-}8-}8-}8-}8-}

  3. 13. KA’DOYO…

    awe walipena :d

Please also read the next thread that LT will post for me!! I will just have time to post the kadoli 8->

  4. What is a three month extention? What a joke? I got my passport last November and it’s valid for ten years, didn’t they know then that there was a new one coming out? They should let old passport expire first.

  5. #9 You have a point
Becareful to those emails which come that you have won something, asking for your particulars. Those thugs wants to forge the passports.

  6. everytime you change PP you say the new ones are of high qulity, Are you shortsighted, and you people make me wonder, do you interact with other nationals? And find out what their docs are like. Or you just get excited with buildings and the like. Mumamvesa nsoni maningi. Do your proper home work, you behave like popcorns, before it really gets heated up, it jumps.

  7. Ohh, thats Good, perhaps we might as well visit the embassy..been putting it off for too long.

So whats suppose to cut, when you go to zed with an old passport then you wont be allowed to leave.unless you aquire the new one.??.nangu ni return ticket ukwete..Yaba

  8. # 6, i took my forms and did the interview on 14 January and my passport was ready by 22nd. Mine took 8 days….. and i collected it on sometime last week. i think they are doing a quick and good job. by the way i only paid K20pin for the form and K300pin for the passport, no VAT to anyone.

  9. Such decisions are made when the gorvenment wants to make money. Some one would allow the buses and taxis to be in all sorts of colours and then come up again and say paint them blue. Change the car owners book, change passport atc.

For 30000 passports, the government will make above K 11,700,000,000.00. for making then, they would have used a 1/3(third).

  10. # 6 Hopeless it takes about 3 weeks and the express something like 1 week (no difference indeed) I took mine last December when I went to Zed **==

  11. am not in a hurry, I will take my time, why should you put a dead line as though it does not cost anything, ala. just continue extending deadlines until our old ones expires.

  12. 33. Spring Chicken

not yet !! But he ha supporter this morning “The Lusaka Gogolo”!!

He is the only infected meat I know of!!

Pastor J just comes in the evening in Sheeps Clothing :d

  13. Thank you President RB Banda Administration for answering our calls for the extension.

On “Dr. Mwansa said government will not extend the passport renewal programme after the May 31st deadline”, I am happy that you Mr Minister has not used the words “government will NEVER extend …”.

This gives me hope that the 17 year old MMD GRZ will actually extend the passport renewal programme if it will be necessary to do so after March 31st, 2009 when we as Zambians will probably ask for an extension of this activity again.

  14. #27.U mean if i go to the embassy, i can get forms, interviewed and acquire one within 2 weeks?I dont know the proceedure. 😕

  15. #39 Tell me

I would advise you to go to the embassy personally. The dealine has been extended. Nipa blogg pano, ka? Dont believe everything you are told. Believe some, not all! [-x

    Go and find out yourself,simple!

  16. I thought the petition was for validity of current passports to continue until renewal. It’s obvious that the MMD GOV came up with a budget that the can’t afford hence extended the deadline to make more money as they know a number of people will come forward as can be evidenced on the thread. Anyhow it’s better than nothing but the GOV has to change and take the electorate into consideration when implementing large scale plans.

  17. RB, Siliya and your supporters, you are putting the Zambian Security at risk by privatising ZAMTEL. Instead of privatising ZAMTEL, you should encourage NEW investment in the Telecomm sector. THINK TWICE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!! Mistakes have been made before by selling key institutions to the so called investors. MR PRESIDENT, ZAMBIA IS NOT FOR SALE.

  18. #55 I agree with you. The petition was about validity of current passports until the permits/visas expire whichever comes first. That has not been addressed and, that is what we petitioned for. Or is the petition yet to be presented to the Zambian govt? What has happened to the petition LT? Is this what we have gotten out of it?

  19. the zambian govt always grants extensions – i knew this was coming. all those in diaspora, use your embassy’s and make them do the work for once – diplomatic mail is always given priority ku boma.

  20. In my opinion we are not under a dictarship kind of Govt, we should be allowed to change the passports when are prepared and not forced.

  21. Ba Mwansa lets not lose sight of the fact that you failed to forecast that the original deadline was unrealistic. An educated man like you must know that there are Zambians all over the world. Even your new deadline is unrealistic. Spread out the demand by letting citizens use existing passports to travel out of Zed till they expire. You should know the maximum output capacity of your ministry by now. Don’t set production targets too high or else you will encourage corruption. Why do you over complicate simple things kanshi?

  22. I will not renew my passport until I go to Zed in August. I don’t think the immigration officers will send me back to Gordon Brown. Zed is my home. What happens to our visas in the current passports? do anyone have a clue?

  23. yah,can i take some1 2court 4forcing me 2change my passport, maybe even NRCs, dRiving Liences will be changed soon who knows………. its ukwetu shinga and your passport is express service……… :((:o

  24. #66 Baby C, Hi. Brilliant idea. You know what? Its not just about getting the forms and the passports. Its also about the money. People have to get loans and advances to get these passports and then you have to queue……….let them extend some more

  25. #72 Sweet me
if you want you can transfer your visa into your new passport at a fee or use your old visa in your old passport ,in other words you will be using two passports. :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o**==**==*-:)

  26. This is a senseless extension. They should have been renewing the old ones as they expire. But then what do you expect from a spendthrift cash-strapped government.

  27. I will renew mine in 1215 when it expires weather Kalombo Mwansa like or not, after all he wont drug me to passport office to it renewed. there are no jobs let your gov talk of job creation and not dead lines for passport renewal, people can do without passports we have got NRC.

  28. Spring Chicken.

Thank u. Whats so special about the new passports? I don’t see any sense in having new passports, the govt should have thought of other means of generating income.

  29. Hopeless,

I sent mine to Zambia using Mercury Couriers the recepient paid K20,000 to collect it from the office in longacres, and this was 3 weeks ago….i got my passport back today by fedex…… i guess you need toknow some one who can follow it up for you there….. 🙂

  30. I was in Zambia last year, and glad to say I renewed my passport. I must say it is green, and better than the previous one. It has the coat of arms embelished in silver on the inside cover and has a picture of the national assembly building. the passport picture is scanned on the next page and the picture is mirrored in the centre. there is a bar code on the back page, which will make it very difficult for anyone to forge. If you think it is not necessary to renew your passport then it is you prerogative. We are all adults I presume of sound mind. the choice is yours

  31. we as zambian students here in russia are quite confused and lost with regards to how we can aquire new passport..the zambian embassy telephone numbers found on the web are inaccessible…what are we to do in order for us to aquire new passports are required

  36. Is the Passport the only legal document that we need?

I can go anywhere in the EU with the Zambian Passport!! I just show them my German driving license!!

All this fussy about passport!! If you are in diaspora just relax until the battle fights itself!!

    Kuti wapena :o:o:o:o:o:o:o

There are some Zambians who have never even had a passport in their lives!! So those just laugh when they hear such nonsense!!

The Government knows that this is nonsense and only African governments run a country as if they are running an apartment.

People just relax !! It will all be fine!!

    :d

Ine this weekend its a two step and a bottle of Hennessey :)>-

  37. # 95..Ba Honey
It´s true…tried to check the embassy site and they haven´t updated anything. The deadline that is there is still the old one which could be xpiring soon. When the right time comes….i would rather change my nationality

  38. 105. Ras Rated…….Hels

this is exactly my point, they dont think straight, the need the expired liquer to think.

I have a case at my condo, you are all welcome.

  39. Jamao, pls do not mislead people. have you tried coming to Uk with your German d/licence? I doubt it. If you want to travel outside the region where you are how do you intend to do this without a valid passpt and Visa. Why not just renew your passpt. Do you intend to stay in Germany all your life, and don’t you have family in Zed? Be true to yourself. shengen visa required to travel around Eu, How does travelling with a Zambian passpt and German D/L exempt you from Visa controls? After May you will not even be able to travel with your old one as it will not be valid at any border post, that includes any EU border.Zed passpt with indefinite leave to remain, allows you into Switz for 90 days

  40. 111. muliz

The UK is the only Country in the EU that did not sign the schengener treaty !! An Exception!!

Just waiting for a favorable wind from the German authorities so the Zed Passport is history!

Another reason for a two step and a drink

    :d

  41. point of corection If you have a Zed passpt with indefinte leave to remain, living in UK you can go to Switzerland for 90 days without a visa. Jamao before you post any of your comments make sure you get more info about this passpt issue. it seems you knowldedge about this is very limited. is it because you brain now contains more alcohol than brain cells. have you ever heard of liver Chirosis. who wants to know about your alcoholic business.

  42. Those who have been to Germany all admit that it’s a very nice place. Everything is in order and things just work out perfect. Even Americans & British elope from their own countries to come & live here. I love Zambia but I love Germany too.
Those who have never been here, continue mocking and jeering all you want…it won’t change anything. Just renew your passports. Akaso!!!
    [-(

  43. 114. muliz ,
Blame it on the expired liqour Jam@co drinks, iam worried for him.
He is seen in slow motion , double vision, the same for his thinking.

    Cha
    :d:d:d

  44. Jamao You are still missin the point. I have asked you a fare question in 111. Do you intend to live in Germany indefinately? Unless you tell me you want to get a German passpt, which is fare, but how do you suggest travelling elsewhere where you need to apply for a visa? unless you are going to get a chip inserted in your hand which will not requie you use a passpt. I’m eager to know how you intend to do this. The comment about the alcohol is not personal, just caution.

  45. 118. Nine Chale
Do you know that there are some Germanys here too, i work with a few of them.
So dont talk ma rubish, its a personal prference. Ok.

These pipo can freely move from one country to another,

  46. Awe imwe you have to admit!!

As much as we love our Country!! We are trying to make ends meet even by working hard abroad!!

There are some people who think once you are abroad its all roses!!

    I say No!! [-x[-x

We work hard!! Even now am working although some of you may think otherwise!!

I love you all my Zambian friends and it does not matter which papers you hold, your heart will always remember home. :)>-

Iwe Nine Chale na ba bululu for real

So if you are coming ku party pa weekend you will find him. So be nice please :d

  48. Our govt shoulndt have let Zamtel reach this deadly end but if a company is populated by cadres and relatives,Govt will do anything to please them aat the expnse of profitability and efficiency. Therefore if Zamtel does not have enough funds to jump-start its operations, the way to go is partial privitisation that will invlve both Zedians and Foreigners and ZRA should stop PHD menatlity(Pull Him/Her Down) on fellow Zambians(Kalijo mulekeletu). You scare away zedians with money.

As for Dora,Mwana watch your tongue! Its a boomerang!

  49. Thats why there is a saying that goes” there is no place like home”
I know we cant have the jobs we have here back home , but we still remember and are proud to be Zedians, dispite of tuma pepala you have.
Home is Home.and it will always be.

  50. Ba Honey, I know Germans are all over the world, I’m only reacting to some hatefull comments like #110 concerning those of us who live in Germany.
Some people dont like the friendliness among bloggers on this site. We have to put them back into the hate-corner where they belong!

PS. don’t forget to renew your passports…not akaso! [-x

  56. kudos lusakatimes.com..sure you played some role in alerting the govt to the issues we’re facing with this passport ting 😉

  57. Ba Honey

Organise one for me as well since you love passports. It really pains me coz I just got a new passport.2007 :-j:-j:-j

  58. Interesting statistic.
    Population – 12 million
    Passports issued – under 30,000
This means only less than a quarter of a percent of Zambians can travel beyond their borders. It was said that Americans are the least travelled because only 10% had passports. Well, Zambians now have the record. What did they say? ‘Umwana ushenda atasha banyina…’ Could this be one reason why we have these big problems with politics?

  59. AT THE PASSPORT OFFICE THEY WILL TELL U IT WILL BE READY 10 – 21 DAYS BUT DOES NOT HAPPEN THAT WAY, THEY INCONVINIENCE U TO BEGIN WITH.THEY DO PERSONAL INTERVIEW WHICH ARE DELIBERATYELY DELAYED, TO COINCIDE WITH LUNCH BREAK.THEY FIND SILLY LITTLE FAULTS TO TURN U AWAY OR MAKE U BRIBE THEM. THIS INCONVINIENCES PEOPLE THAT ARE BUSY. THIS HAS GIVEN RISE TO CORRUPTION TO JUST BE ATTENDED OR PUT ON THE TOP LIST. PEOPLE RESORTING TO KATONDO STREET BOYS FOR A MARK UP OF K100,000 THE PASSPORT OUT FOLLOWING 3DAYS. THE ONLY WAY TO CURB CORRUPTION IS TO BE EFFICIENT

  60. Jamao thanks for the invite, but not until you accept my invitation to UK. Oh by the way I’m tee total so youwill not expect anything alcoholic beverages just mint tea, decaffinated cofee and Roibosh tea, Still interested?

  61. Passport issues again. That is trouble for my mom&dad. They have to send forms to Japan then a big wait/pause and voiala, we will see what happens next.

  62. Dear Mr President,

please not that we are a country with a population of about 10 Million.

Less than 30 000 hold passports!!

Please show us some love and issue the new passports for free. You can also use the funds that your son earned by importing GMO Maize. In return we will forgive your son.

    Please respond asap.

    Cheers

    Jam@co and friends

  63. Jamao, I can see you have aproblem with a passport, why not be one of the volunteers of the chip in the hand and you won’t be needing a German driving licence either. I saw a man on a london bus scan his first finger on the oyster reader. the oyster reader beeped after he did this as he sat down quite close to me I was so terrified i thought we were being invaded by aliens. The experiment for the chip was first done in New Zealand.

  64. 218. muliz

    Iwe that is strange :o:o

I have since travelled around the globe in 68 countries, since I got myself a proper passport!!! With the old black booklet, i used it only once to jump out of poverty. Under educated or not, I’ve got more knowledge, life expirence, and the best Medical Insurance than most wanna be rich people around. SMALL WORLD: Ambassador’s daughter
    Mwape is studying biochemistry

    Posted Feb 10, 2009 @ 12:12 AM

PITTSBURG — Chiluchile Mwape is unlike most other international students. When she goes to visit her family, she visits an entirely other country than where she is from. Her father is the Zambian ambassador to China. Do China and Zambia have many political ties?“I didn’t know they did, either until my dad got appointed,” Chiluchile said. “And then when I go to visit them, I go to China now and then I come straight here, which makes me even more homesick.”

  71. Chiluchile is the only student at Pittsburg State from her home country of Zambia. More than 40 international countries are represented at Pittsburg State.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Africa that Mwape has had to fight. But one of the biggest problems is that few people have known much about her home country.

“Zambia used to be known for copper,” she said. “I don’t know what it is known for now. People have asked me if we have animals all over the place and I say no. You’re not just going to walk outside and find animals running around.”

  72. Another problem is that most people don’t know much about African political geography.

“Everybody thinks Africa is one big country,” she said. “There are some big differences between Kenya and Zambia. It’s not the same at all.”

Mwape decided to come to PSU for an education experience that she could not get in Zambia.

“I came for the school and education,” Mwape said. “It’s affordable, I think. The first reason you want to come to America is the cool factor. As compared to the schools back home, there are only two universities. There are a lot of places here.”

She attended school at Crowder College in Neosho for a few years before coming to Pittsburg. She is studying biochemistry

  73. She attended school at Crowder College in Neosho for a few years before coming to Pittsburg. She is studying biochemistry and plans to attend pharmacy school after she graduates in May.

“I’d love to go back home. I feel they may need more help than here. I’ll be needed back home,” Chiluchile said. “They need doctors and nurses and pharmacists there. The health department is just short of people. The country needs so many people.”

She’s noticed plenty of differences between America and Zambia.

“Zambia is a very small country, ony 11 million,” she said. “So there are not to many places to visit. If you come here, there are so many options. You can go wherever you want to go.”

  75. Jamao this chip thing is real, I freaked out when I saw this man on the bus. This chip thing has been an experiment carried out for some time in New zealand where most of these unusual things are experimented. I’m sure there will be some Nigerian brodas and sisters who have volunteered for this. The paper passpt is not a bad idea after all, but this big brother technology is too much co some of us. whwere I live there are camera’s everywhere.

So what happens if you don’t change it before their dman dead line? I personally changed mine but i have friends who can’t afford to pay for theirs!!

  94. Isn’t it odd how they are yet to address the issue concerned with renewing passports from overseas? We do not have an embassy here, the closest one is in Japan and so far we are hearing horror stories of that embassy loosing passports! As far as they are concerned, once the passports leave their ka building, they are not responsible for what happens to them.Kaya mwandi. I betcha they will announce that all NRC’s are to expire in 2 weeks and we all must get new ones or else….

  95. Passport!…..What Passport? Zambian High Commission in Namibia is the Best! You just go pay and wait and in no time, viola! no Nchekela Ko or whatever terminologies are in use nowadays. Keep it up guys!

Ndeunfwa amalyashi ya corruption from ZED, maybe they should offer you a ka consultancy to go show them TRANSPARENCY & EFFICIENCY =d>:)>-:)]

  96. certainly like your website but you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to tell the truth however I will certainly come back again.
