Luanshya miners commend Kapu

Share

Former Luanshya copper mines employees have commended Luanshya District Commissioner, George Kapu, for his bold step of presenting a petition to President Rupiah Banda.

Some miners, who did not want to be named, said in an interview with ZANIS that it was gratifying to see the District Commissioner take up the matter with the urgency it deserved to the head of state.

They also thanked President Rupiah Banda for receiving the petition and assuring the nation that the talks concerning the re-opening of Luanshya mines had reached an advanced stage.

They said efforts made by Mr Kapu should not be negated, adding that government should expeditiously tie up the deal.

They said there were encouraged by government’s efforts of re-opening the mines and hoped that the jobs will be given back to miners soon.

On Monday, former miners and their spouses, church leaders and some sympathizers held a peaceful demonstration at which they petitioned government to find an investor for the closed mine.

    • But for how long and where will this demo take them to??
You see some of these people were silly enough to sink with the ship when there were plenty life saving measures elsewhere and all over the shore!!..

Others swam aboard when they saw the ship/ titanic sink!!!

  1. Let’s not be too excited because the copper is still recording low sales on the global market. Last time I checked, gold is selling ten times better. Ghanaians are better off than us.

  2. The problem is our Government is slow in acting. Waiting for protests or demos is not good. Is this the Legacy the MMD were singing about during campaigns???? Good afternoon Baby C and Nine Chale!

    • Good afternoon Tionge, you’re right, our government is very slow to act. Since no one can predict when the economy is likely to pick again, there seems to be no sense of direction in the leadership at the momment.

  3. Ba LT,the format is good but we are not seeing other head lines like it used to be.Its really cambersome to be clicking “back to”when traying to read other articles. So please, if you can help us with that. Thanks in advance.

  4. The Govt should bail out ailing mines like Luanshya Mine to save jobs. USA and other European Govts are busy doing this usiong tax payers money to save jobs of their. no big deal but govts responsibility in these worse times.

  5. Taking the petition is one thing, NyamaSoya finding a solution to a dilema is another issue with him. The Miners first and foremost were paid their dues. The Mine has no other obligation to them. So what is next? Thats where NyamaSoya is clueless.
