Kafue District Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities, Joseph Mwaba, has commended Government for printing disability-inclusive educational resources under the new education curriculum.
In an interview with the media, Dr Mwaba said the move demonstrates Government’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that no learner is left behind.
He noted that the availability of learning materials tailored to the needs of learners with disabilities, particularly those who are blind, will enhance access to education and improve learning outcomes.
“I commend Government for taking a deliberate step towards inclusive education, through the printing of disability-inclusive educational resources. This is a significant milestone in ensuring that learners with disabilities have equal access to quality education,” said Dr Mwaba.
“These resources will help learners who are blind to actively participate in classroom activities and learn alongside their peers without barriers. This is what true inclusion looks like,” he said.
He stated that the initiative will contribute to inclusive national development by empowering learners with disabilities, through education.
Dr Mwaba commended Government for amending the National Education Policy of 2011 and the Special and Inclusive Education Guidelines of 2016, describing the reforms as progressive measures aimed at strengthening inclusive learning in the country.
“The amendment of the National Education Policy and the review of the Special and Inclusive Education Guidelines are commendable developments that reflect Government’s commitment to addressing the educational needs of learners with disabilities,” he said.
He added that the policy reforms provide a clear framework for promoting equity, accessibility, and participation of all learners in the education system.
Dr Mwaba urged stakeholders in the education sector to support the effective implementation of the revised policies and educational reforms.
“Policies alone are not enough, we must ensure that they are fully implemented so that every learner, regardless of disability, can enjoy their right to education,” he added.
He reaffirmed the disability community’s commitment to working with Government and other stakeholders in advancing inclusive education and promoting equal opportunities for all learners in Kafue District.
