The Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) has announced plans to implement phase two of the Spotlight Initiative Project, in Muchinga Province.
The project which will be funded by the International Organisation for Migration, aims to eliminate Gender-Based Violence against women and girls.
DAPP Project Coordinator Muyaba Nketani said the organisation has officially deployed two specialised staff members to execute the Spotlight Initiative Project Two.
“As an implementer, DAPP focuses on strengthening grassroots GBV prevention mechanisms,” she said.
Ms Nketani added that the targeted interventions aim to create safer environments for women and girls through intense community engagement.
“Our goal in this second phase is to consolidate our structures and by deploying the two staff and strengthening GBV prevention mechanisms to ensure zero tolerance.”
Meanwhile, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Tuesday Bwalya welcomed the initiative.
Dr Bwalya noted that the intervention had come at a critical time when the province was actively fighting vulnerabilities faced by women.
“This project by DAPP has come at the right time for Muchinga. The project fits current provincial needs and we expect maximum impact.” he said
Dr Bwalya further reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to providing policy and security frameworks that eliminate violence.
“Government remains fully committed to fighting GBV,” he said.
The PS also reaffirmed government’s collaboration, funding and enforcement saying Government will not relent.
With the two new officers on the ground, Muchinga Province expects a highly coordinated push toward ending GBV.
DAPP operates across ten provinces and has presence in 86 districts in Zambia and is now scaling up its presence in Muchinga Province.
