The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has expressed concern at the number of Labour rights violations in the country.
Officiating at a quarterly media briefing in Lusaka today, HRC vice chairperson Palan Mulonda said the commission is aware that such violations as unwarranted dismissal of workers without notice or without giving them their terminal benefits are on the increase in the country.
He has urged the investors and other employers to adhere to the provisions of the Zambian laws.
Mr.Mulonda advised all employees to be cautious when making agreements with prospective employers by ensuring that they understand the contents of the employment deal to avoid losing out.
He stressed that the PHRC is saddened by the global financial crisis and its impact on the labour market that has resulted in increased job losses.
Mr. Mulonda further advised the police to avoid excess in their conduct such as abusing suspects through brutal interrogation methods like beating and intimidation.
He urged members of the public to cooperate and support the police service in ridding communities of dangerous criminals by reporting them so that they face justice.

So, that’s when you have realize
Tell this to the chinese employers
this question what are they doing about it?
The question is what are they doing about it?
In light of “Officiating at a quarterly media briefing in Lusaka today, HRC vice chairperson Palan Mulonda said the commission is aware that such violations as unwarranted dismissal of workers without notice or without giving them their terminal benefits are on the increase in the country”, what actions have you resolved to do to punish those who do this?
Let us not just talk but do something to show that we are serious about protecting our Zambian fellows.
Worrying is not a solution. you have always known that there are alot of human labour rights viloations. Do something-
Child labour should be probed too. This practice is going on in Zambia without serious checks…….
Action will speak louder than your own words ba HRC vice chairperson Palan Mulonda.
What do you do when you get information? nothing, you are well known for doing nothing and only good at receiving brown envelops 🙂
Which reminds me. There should also be an effort to put draughts baords at all labour offices in the country. The last time I went to look for people to help me with manual labour I did not find anyone at the Kitwe’s labour office because in the past you could always find people playing draughts whilest they waited to be hired. Don’t argue, I have a right to requeet for draughts boards because from there it was easy to even identify talent which was eventually upgraded to chess playing. LOL
The problem is our Labour inspectors. I suspect these guys are corrupt that why they dont do their jobs or is it lack of resources like transport so that they can go round checking? Whatever the case MLSS is populated by non-perfoming labour inspectors who are just a burden to the tax-payers.
What was the purpose of the briefing?
He should be taking action, thats why he is in the job.Infact the Gov’t and Councils are the worst culprits. Clean up these departments before you open your mouth.
…..
zambians you are good at discovering mistakes not at correcting them………have you checked out how the boers in zambia are treating their employees especially in micro finance? these jobs you have are not just for fun you eat our tax payers money but do nothing to help us.
Let’s see what Amb. Mulonda can do regarding the discrimination case against the Embassy of Zambia in Washington, DC.
