RB secures $475,000 for Senior Chipolopolo’s preps

Share

President Rupiah Banda has raised about K 2,641 million ( US$ 475, 000 dollars )for the preparations of the Zambia National Football team in the remaining games.

The Funds, acquired from First Quatum Minerals (FQM), would be used for the remaining 2010 Africa/ World Cup qualifying games.

President Banda said following his meetings with FQM, the company agreed to pay the salary of National Team Coach Herve Renard and his Assistant Patrice Beamelle for the remaining games.

Also included in the deal is the purchase of two brand new Toyota Hilux double Cabs for the coaches’ use.

Mr Banda thanked FQM for their gesture saying it will go a long way in boasting morals in the team and coaching staff.

President Banda appealed to other business houses to come forward and assist the team in their remaining matches.

And FQM Group Executive Officer Phillip Pascal said his company decided to support President Banda’s initiative to raise funds for the national team because the private sector has a major role to play in sports.

” FQM, like all mining companies, is facing difficulties due to very low copper prices. But we feel the need to share in hardships for the aspirations of the nation,” Mr Pascal said.

This is according to a statement to ZANIS this evening signed by State House Chief Analysist for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere.

  1. #2 it’s not just about soccer, it’s about supporting our Zambian sports general. If the president leads by showing committment to sports in the country, it will be easier for others to follow.
We need progress & growth in all sectors, not just in the economy.

  2. “President Rupiah Banda has raised about K 264, 181, 000 million ( US$ 475, 000 dollars )for the preparations of the Zambia National Football team in the remaining games”

US$ 475,000 translating to ZMK 264,181,000 million……now thats what i call VERY POOR ‘reporting’….oops, quote for quote……thats what LT gets for not counter checking the facts…….

  3. Not that it will change any opinions i have about you, but thank you RB! Ba LT please buy RB a Zambian jersey! And since Liverpool are currently being wired by Chelsea, also get him an Arsenal Jersey for tomorow’s victory, VIVA Gunnaz…..

  4. What is this company getting in exchange for the half million dollars? Imwe mwe bantu ala RB is putting you up for something. How many miners were laid off last week? You should know that RB is now getting desparate and the only way to pacify some of you is by discussing soccer. Probably FQM was in the process of making a donation but knowing how Fr. Bwalya has dealt with him, he has come to you using soccer. In fact I would not praise RB at all. It is like a child praising the parents for providing food. It is the duty of every parent to provide for their children unless you have a reckless parent like the Zambian govt.

  5. Oh Zambia I forgot! Blimey me the money should really be used for SOCCER? For over grown men? just for entertainment, just for national glory right?

Why cant we just use this money for scholarships for school levers? What a waste of money

  6. good ba RB, that’s great, but not for buying the 4x4s cars for coaches, already they are paid a lot, they buy can their own cars

  7. RBs’ selling Zed to Ghadaffi, Thats where he got them Negotiating skills. soon when the Katongo’s dont score straight ku Prison.

  8. This, I don’t understand?? How can the president “secure” money for paying the salaries of the coaches?? I thought this is the job of FAZ! What is FAZ doing? What is their financial situation? How is FAZ’s financed? I thought that FIFA provides money for such activities?! Can you imagine a situation where the Queen or Gordon Brown “secures” money for paying Fabio Capello – the current English coach?? The 2 would be accused of corruption or indecent behaviour in the best case!!! They would be forced to resign!! Prior to that, there would be a Commission of Inquiry to fully explain the issue!! And here we have Zambian intellectuals commending the president for finding “dubious” ways of funding team – shame to you all! By the way, there is no free lunch! FQM will recoup this money,…

  9. Ba Kalos2020,
Sometimes offer constructive critisism and not always sensationalism.for a soccer lover who is dying to see the return of the old golden days when zambia could beat cameroun 4-1,when we were compared to the likes Egypt, tunisia, cameroun and not Botswana what RB has done is a big coup d’etat because soccer glory comes with big bucks and not toba umutwe.
And you should abandon this folly of thinking RB has any concerns over the fate of this weird priest some of you deem a hero.
That guy has been shunted to the gutter and he wont have any platfoam to insult innocent souls maybe he should find an anthill somewhere where he can bellowing his lungs out in frustration.

  10. MBEWE,
Point of correction ba mudala,FIFA does not give money to affiliate associations to pay coaches their salaries.FIFA only fund developmental projects like the Goal project that saw us benefit the football house.FAZ accounts are not anything to talk about if you are a keen soccer follower you could have known this.on the sourcing of that money the state president was the right man to do it because as much as that money was given out by FQM in zambia the request when to their H/Q is it in austraiia or canada
Do you think if kalusha bwalya asked for that money he would have been given?not even a cent so when they were told it is the president of zambia they had to sit up.ni boma

  11. That’s what i call inferior complex…When Patrick Phiri and company was there they didn’t give him anything and i feel he was treated more of a foreigner that a hero.Yet we are giving these muzungus more than Patrick Phiri and for me Phiri did me proud..It’s so shameful that all the intellectuals are busy praising RB Kalos2020 has raised a good point why praise a parent for providing food?

  12. a load of rubbish if you ask me. so what incentives where they offered, no tax for five years, no inspections of their books by the revenue authorities, or is it lower import or export rates for their goods. its funny how we always are short of money when it comes to raising funds for people who are impoverished who only wish to have atleast two decent meals a day, or proper medical care. please do something for the good of the majority population because if you check the statistic these dont even have television sets so they are not bothered if we play in the worl cup or not. all they want is for their children to be fed. one other thing if we cant afford a foreign coach why not just hire one who is a local. as a nation need to stop trying to live beyond our means and wake up to reality

  14. Stavross
You have a big point. What is winning a world cup on an empty stomach anyway? One wonders what our govt priorities are?

  15. I think the president has his priorities mixed up. His job in making sure the poor Zambians have a decent meal to eat instead securing money for a football team. This is absolutely ridiculous. Does he know how many families would be fed if that money was used to feed his people?? How does one go to sleep knowing everyday is a screw up, much of it by greed and cruelty. He is killing his own people while satisfying his love for foodball.

  16. whatever you guys full of negatives say,RB yu’ve done it.that’s the way, bola is one of the most important unifying factors in mother zed.south africa here we come as real hot copper bullets.plz mr presido use you influence as head of state to solicit for more financial support for our national team, viva chipolopolo!!!

  17. I migrated from the world of theories.there is no progress iam now in the practical world where we ca even raise half a million dollars just by making one phone call.

  18. $475,000 will be entered for tax rebate as donation to charity. All rich people and companies do things like this in the developed world. They also use these situations for publicity. This money is always budgeted for and it is good business. Let Zambian business houses also take a leaf from this instead of spending on girlies, cars and shopping sprees in Joburg!

  19. Akapondo, Thank you for any corrections, but you have not answered my queries! More questions: what is Kalusha doing to raise money for FAZ and its activities? This money will be spent on Coaches’ salaries – is that enough to make Zambia qualify t he Africa Cup or World Cup in 2010? What is the role of the Ministry of Sport in this? Generally, how is sport financed in Zambia? By who?

  20. No Angela D, shame on you for not appreciating what soccer means to Zambia. It is no wonder we never watch soccer with you women, you always critisize. You are the 1st ones to call Zambia ama kula, but when some tries to develop the sport to lift us from the label “ama kula” you call it nonsense. Make Up Your Mind!!!!!!

  22. No not UNZA may be CBU. UNZA has to become a University first and not a secondary school before you can put money in there. As for RB thanks for the gesture but that does not sway my personal opinion about how he is running Zambia like Nakambala sugar estates. 5 months is too long to stay without elaborating a clear road map. Obama has had 100 days and his plan is very clear for everyone to see including the blind.

  23. Ba LT sometimes you are also an embarassing lot.how can money help BOASTING MORALS? You meant to say BOOSTING MORALE.if you are having problems in copying what you are reading then you should be pasting.every time bloggers are complaining about your poor spellings and you dont seem to care.but i hope this will be a recipe of putting my postings into perpetual moderation.

  24. GRZ is major sponsor of the chipolopolo although they (FAZ) are expected to raise some funds where possible. Money from FIFA is not used for payment of salaries. It goes into soccer development.
Kalu and company are also doing their job.

  25. MR MBEWE,
the money that RB sourced is not the one that will go towards the salaries of the coaches as well as the aquisation of the two vehicles.those are separate packages if i have understood the article correctly.so that money will be specificaly for preps which may include players allowances.then on kalusha bwalya sourcing funding.well these corporate bodies also weigh the trust and intergrity of the leadership of the sports bodies in which they are putting money.they can’t pour millions in a scandal ridden associatoin.today it is players not receiving their allowances tommorrow it is mayuka transfer money not accounted for.
    Contnd

  26. I for one am happy with RB’s effort i mean its not like we have been doing poorly and the money would be a waste, to the contrary we have a good chance and the lads and coaches must be given all the support they can get. Besides the money is not coming from government coffers its donated so pls stop the negativity.

  27. Contnd.
So corporate bodies under such circumstances become sckeptic.they fear their money wont be used for intended purposes.
that’s why it is important for affiliates when going for elections to choose leaders based on merit and not names
As is the case with FAZ.that’s why in my personal opinion the right candidate for FAZ presidency was HANIF ADAMS.he has it what the corporate world needs when entrusting money to an association.haven’t you ever wondered how the ZGU,ZRFU and ZMSA all manage to host their international golf, rugby and motor sport competitions without goverment help but from the business
Houses It is trust.it’s not and obligation for the ministry of sport to be involved in the organising of sport in any country but it is that of respective associations.

  28. LT fire the editor.now he wants to moderate me because of bringing boobs in his spellings to his attention.what is so bad or sarcastic in my latest threads?watch out.

  29. AKAPONDO

It is radiculous for you to compare ZGU,ZRFU and other sports bodies to FAZ, the budgets and international calendars involved with these other sports bodies is completely different from FAZ. Consider the number of international games played in a season starting from under 17 to the senior team, evaluate how much it costs to camp a 22 man squard at 5 star hotel, expenses of coaches and the national football league. And so far so good as far as football administration is concerned, they are getting the results and attracting sponsorship deals .It will be the first time for the Chipolopolo to have official ssponsors in Zambian football history.

  30. RB… you are just doing your job. We know Zambia need monies for soccer games and travel.

Anyhow good publicity for this miners

  31. Well done bwana RB. Football is such a unifying factor in Zambia. Just tell Kalu to stop interfering so much with coach’s work. And Coach, the young man Mudenda could prove worthwhile to you.

  32. LUAPULA FISH.
Come out clearly and stop waffling.you are talking of budgets when i was talking about how these other sports bodies attract sponsorship from a cross section of business houses which FAZ
Fails simply because they have no acumen.seeking sponsorship from a company is like putting up a business proposal and the too would want to know how there company would benefit in return and in what terms.if FAZ were serious all these financial institutions, telecoms companies
Hotels would have been outwitting each other to associate with them. Contnd

  33. Contnd. Then you mentioned the long fAZ calender.do you consider that as a hindrance or a challenge? Then tell FAZ to learn from peter cottan.you know the dates then what follows is the budget then you plan.how does peter cottan manages to raise monies for Esther phiri tournaments which are always in the sum of k450,000,000 and mind you FAZ is even a beneficiary of huge gate takings whenever there is a match. That aside have you seen how companies jostle to be part of the zambia open golf tournament and despite being a three day tournament have you seen their budget.similarly ZMSA association also have a very big budget to to stage the zambia rally and motor sports like golf are very expensive games you can’t compare to football so how do they manage?
So the point is the guys in FAZ…

  34. Firstly, is it President RB Banda or it is the Government of the Republic of Zambia that has raised the said money? Please, let us disseminate information correctly so that we do not create heroes for nothing. It is the duty of President RB Banda and his Administration to do what they have done to improve the lives of Zambians and not some personal effort at play.

If we are not careful, we as a nation Zambia will slowly go back to the former President FTJ Chiluba’s way of receiving praises for nothing that led to the introduction of BROWN ENVELOPS. I hope all news people will listen to this.

On “” FQM, like all mining companies, is facing difficulties due to very low copper prices. But we feel the need to share in hardships for the aspirations of the nation,” Mr Pascal said”,…

  35. 54 continued.
… thank you very much and all the best to the Chipolopolo boys.

I would also like to support some bloggers who have said that let President RB Banda and his Administration now look at securing money from businesses to pump into our universities even through research projects. Also, small jobs to aid students raise some money must be arranged in such help.

  36. Bola inasila pa zed. when we were young, we used to play 3 change goal and 6 finish ball. For a team to win, you must score 6 goals in total hence we used to paly for the whole day in one match. when you go to a football match, you expect to watch brilliant players who when he touches the ball, the whole Stadium would shout his name.

  37. U mean it takes a pres to organise such funds, or is he trying to show he’s got his game correct. What about more importnant issues..i ahvent read him porganising funds for the poor

  38. Ba NO.38 UNZA is a really univesity, quality Doctors come from there, righty now i have two from mean UNZA to Ridgeway 4th & 7th, though its tough, but those who go there to learn they pass, coz lecturers teach though in a very difficult condiction and many of us went through UNZA.

  39. No. 59. Its okay when it comes to teaching and thats the analogy with the secondary school standards, you get good theoretical degrees but a University’s name is not recognized by teaching alone. There are national problems where UNZA is supposed to play a big role i.e. solve the problems through knowledge generation and of course this has to be done through research. Thats where the problem is. None of that is happening!!!

  40. Good job Mr president
Hope the same can be true to other sports disciplines
Now the boys can bring glory for mother Zambia

  41. WHILE BA DR. REAL BRAIN,Then you should have said we don,t have universities in zambia, but only secondary schools as i don,t think they do reseach at CBU either!

  42. Well done RB! The way to go. In a long time i am seeing serious commitment on soccer from a Head of State in Zambia. This man is really among ardent soccer fans in Zambia. Hopefully this will jolt our national team to even perform better than what they are currently doing. Bravo RB!!!

  43. its a good thing that RB is raising money for these folks.
anyway did you guys see the red arrows arriving from Egypt the other day? They looked malnourished. Zambia should start taking care of it’s footballers because they are ambassadors.

go RB though i dont trust your agenda. also raise money for prisons and hospitals you can use your platfoam to do that.

  44. Imwe bantu, priorities are wrongly placed in Zambia. Here where i study for my PhD, a colleague got a job as an assessor for companies contributions to reaserch. Companies get tax rebates based on how much they’ve contributed and how relevant that research is to NZ economic development. Imwe bagavalamethi, can you have that policy?
