Lusaka City Council (LCC) has called on Zambians to invest in the construction of more shopping malls in the outskirts of Lusaka to decongest the city.
LCC Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata said building more shopping malls in the outskirts of the town will decongest the city, which is being congested by the increasing population.
He added that this will also create employment for many young Zambians who have no jobs.
Mr. Kapata told ZANIS that the council has so far received applications from foreign investors who would want to invest in constructing shopping malls.
He has therefore encouraged local investors to apply for land acquisition.
He said the council is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands to allocate land to investors who have applied for pieces of land.
Mr. Kapata however said the shopping malls will have to be inspected by the council to ensure that they were built according to the recommended standard.
He was encouraged to see number of shopping malls in the capital city which have been constructed in the recent past.

Foreign again!
Zambia needs to invest in youth centers, clean water/sanitation and good roads for all before we start building malls.
You were wrong to built markets in the city center!
Mbuluwa but there are markets in city centres here!
Mbulawa were you at munali?
Building the malls has a lot of benefits, not only employment , but also ease congestion. This is a good move. I was in Lusaka some few months a go and rush hour was a nite mare, you get stuck and also the other sad thing is the way pipo drive, its very sad indeed.
Where will the Zambians get the capital from. Banks? Be realistic.
More shopping malls and no money to spend.
At times I really do not even where to start in Zambia. What like Jamaco said are Malls for when people do not have money to spend. First built stores that small scale farmers can sell their produce too; then craft shops with none occultic sculptures. Then comes banks lending people loans with investment serminars. Need I go on. Here I stop.
Building shopping Malls, the extent of this article just hit me. Can we not think of ways to encourage people to invest in farms. Food shall forever be needed, atleat until Christ returns. Pa Zambia can we not even just make one thing significant fo our people; Yesu akabwele na MMD ecoichili awe Nakana ine. bye.
typo: atleast
Some countries that have properly thought out and design great shopping malls actually realise national income from them as they attract shoppers from other countries. A little bit of forward thinking can turn such ventures into national sources of income, generating employment, uplifting the economy! The shopping malls should be built to international standards, multifloor, with multifloor car parks, real variety of facilities not just supermarkets and restourants but providing a one stop place including cinemas, gyms, indoor game structures, etc!
Lusaka International Airport is a joke!
Only 2 duty free tuntembas! Build shopping malls
and better looking duty free shops there PLEASE!!!!
