Share

The construction of a K300 million cassava processing plant in Kanakantapa village in Chongwe district has been completed.

The project has been funded by the Japanese Embassy and implemented by the Programme Against Malnutrition (PAM), which is the implementing agency.

PAM Food Processing Specialist, Maureen Chitundu disclosed the development to ZANIS today and said the project was completed last month.

Mrs. Chitundu said the project would be commissioned on 7th May 2009 and would be handed over to Kanakantapa Women Group.
She thanked the Ministries of Community Development and Agriculture for supporting PAM come up with the project.

Mrs. Chitundu noted that without the involvement of the two ministries, the implementation of the project would have been difficult.

The cassava processing plant is an initiative of Kanakantapa Women Group which is aimed at providing the group with an income generation source and promoting cassava growing in the area.

  1. Wonderful!! Women should take over everything. Our brains are never bereft of blood unlike men whose blood supply to their brains iscompromised when they need it for their other vital organ. Women think straight 100% of the time and I can prove it.

  2. A welcome move by the Japanese Embassy and PAM. Please help Zedi women… they suffer a lot in procuring day to day food for their families…

  3. I agree completely, this is the kind of investment in productive capacity that should be the nature of all investment in the country – not just private or other governments, but Zambia’s own government.

  4. As always the Japanese working, with a humble approach. Why did we not work closely with the Largest producers of Automobiles in the world before. Any good start is a good start, hopefully we keep it going.

  5. I appreciate the effort LT is making to inform. In fact, I rely on your reports to know what is happening in the country. However, I strongly feel the presentation of articles or reports can be improved. Often obvious pieces of information that is expected is left out completely. For instance, “Cassava processing project” that sounds good, indeed a development but a question remains for me: what is it about exactly? A good article should briefly give some idea. Otherwise, thank you the good job you are doing. Keep it up.

  6. The construction of a K300 million cassava processing plant in Kanakantapa village in Chongwe district has been completed. That is impressive news.

Please someone with more knowledge about this project can shed more light. What will be the end product? Is it Cassava meal or something? Am bit lost here.
