Traditional leader urges couples to have at least 10 children

Share

Chief Chitamo the 4th of Serenje District has encouraged couples in his chiefdom to have at least a minimum of 10 children.

Chief Chitamo says this because there is plenty of idle land in his chiefdom which must be utilized for production.

He was speaking during the commemoration of World Malaria Day at Gibson rural health center yesterday.

Chief Chitamo said the population in his chiefdom was too low hence the need for his subjects to produce more children fill up the land.

“I have got 26 children and I am remaining with four to make 30. So you should also work hard and produce more because my policy is to have a minimum of 10,” he said amid applause from his subjects.[quote]

And Chief Chitambo has urged people in his chiefdom to pursue adult education so that they could learn how to read and write.

Chief Chitambo has since said he will not appoint illiterate people as Indunas.

He said those seeking to be appointed an Indunas should be able to read and write.

“How do I communicate with such a person or in case I receive a letter from higher offices or even when one is called through a letter. One can not wait for somebody to read for you. So if you can not read or write and you want to become a Induna, forget it,” he said.

  1. Typical. More children means more mouths to feed. There are many idle men vending on the streets all over the country, Serenje included. Let them till the lands.

  2. Total madness .no wander we got so many street kids in our country.26 kids how you feed ,dress, and send them to school ?

  3. He must be arrested for molesting his wife(ves).
Do the 26 go to school? Are they fed and clothed well?
    Is he HIV free?

  4. #5 zedian, and he still has 4 more to go. his goal is to have 30. LMAO. HOW MANY WIVES DOES HE HAVE BY THE WAY?

  5. I pit the chief’s low calibre! He is encouaraing promiscuity and more sad cases like chama. We might not be surprised to hear anoth Joseph Fritzel!

  6. Chief Chitamo the 4th of Serenje District has encouraged couples in his chiefdom to have at least a minimum of 10 children” message is supposed to go to all Zambians wherever they are. We need the “Chief Chitamo says this because there is plenty of idle land in his chiefdom which must be utilized for production” so that our country can be like the Chinese who are mass producing things that everyone now knows that they are a force to reckon with. This “Chief Chitamo said the population in his chiefdom was too low hence the need for his subjects to produce more children fill up the land” is what Zambia needs to start utilising its about 93% idle land that is now being misused. With this, Zambia may have a 60 million population like others of its size like France.

  7. 13 continued.

Following ““I have got 26 children and I am remaining with four to make 30. So you should also work hard and produce more because my policy is to have a minimum of 10,” he said amid applause from his subjects“, I am now motivated to produce as many more Zambians as possible by God’s grace and blessings .

    Current statistics by Wikipedia show:
    Zambia:
    Area
    – Total 752,618 km2 [1](39th)
    Population
    – July 2008 estimate 11,862,740[2] (71st)
    – 2000 census 9,885,591[3]

    France:
    Area
    – Total[1] 674,843 km2 (40th)
    Population
    (January 1, 2009 estimate)
    – Total[1] 65,073,482[5] (19th)
Since Zambia is the 39th biggest country on Earth while France is the 40th and our population is 6 times lower than that of France, I would like…

  8. The Lord said “Be friutful and multiply!”. Multiplication is not 1,2,3. The Chief is right, we need to reproduce in 10, 20, 30s.

  9. According to the Holy Bible and perhaps the Koran and many other Holy Novels The Good Lord once said go and reproduce like the sand of the sea.
In that respect the chief is OK.However, what the Holy books forget to mention is the economics behind the reproduction theory, maybe we need other TESTAMENT to deal with that issue

  10. I am encouraging zed govt to connect electricity in the palace, buy the chief a TV and connect him to mnet. This guy needs some form of entertainment otherwise the women folks in his village will never cease to visit labour ward. This is the highest form of “female abuse” I have ever of. Who says every time hubby & wife meet a baby must be the result? This is the type of thinking that breeds reprogressive deeds to our mother land.

  11. Please people be responsible! You will be held accountable for your mischiefs! If you are able to feed them, then go ahead. If you live in diaspora I wish you good luck.

  12. This chap is crazy. He is more iliterate than his subdinates being encouraged to attend lessons.I wont be suprised to hear of early mariages and defilement case in his chiefdom.Obama has two children while village chief wants 30. Shame on him.

  13. For a population to renew itself it is said that people of child bearing age must have at least 5 children. So the good old chief isnt that way off the accepted wisdom. You factor in hiv and he may have a point.

  14. The Chief is right. We must multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. The bible is clear on this one. Again the chief says all should be literate. This includes his children. We should not rush to condemn. There is a lot of bare land in Zambia. Look at the Chinese and how they have mated!! One billion plus and they are coming to Zambia where pipo are idle sexually. Definitely we need to change the policy of reproduction. If you have children below the number 10, no government bursary for them. In my tradition, if you die and has no child, you are escorted with “Chikonti” in your anus. Reflect also on Jesus who cursed the fig tree bcause it could not bare fruits. Lets multiply baba.

  15. Who pays for these children’s education and general upbringing. This is the reason I want wise people from the populace, government and church to speak. There needs to be a limit to what a person can do as when building a family. Why is it that people with a substancial income have fewer children, than those that cannot afford their seedlings. My prayers for my nation.

  16. Chitambo, please, let that stuff dry completely before you smoke it otherwise it starts to mess with your judgement.

  17. People stop insulting mfumu… This Chief Chitambo is a very good and wise man. He is so active I could imagine that he had 26 children. I went to high school with one of his beautiful girls, Sandra Chitambo. And I bet she will give him 15 grandchildren.

  18. A ba Ba Chief Chitambo kwena iyooo… nomba what will these ten kids feed on with this ‘credit crunch’ with a govt. which doesn’t even think of a stimulus package?? bwafya….

  19. How do these people become chiefs? It’s a far cry from the royal families in more enlightened countries.

  20. HOW DOES HE NUTURE THE 26,CHILDREN.THIS MAN IS CRAZY ,THERE IS PLENTY OF LAND HE SAYS IN HIS CHIEFDOM.HE IS LEAVING ONLY FOR TODAY AND DOESNT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW.

  21. These are people who perpetuate poverty in this country and shoud not even been given the media attention to communicate such trash to the public.Gone are the days when people would have 10 children but in contemporary times how can you sustain 10.What amazes me the most is that people who can afford to feed, clothe and educate even the 30 children that the chief is intending to have are willing to 1 or 2 .With the high cost of living let us move way from archaic and economically nonsencal attitudes and tendencies of having 30 or 60 children. One should not calculate his children using a calculator coz manually its difficult to count.

  22. If you fail to take your kids to school do not mention he good book. hypocrites ……………………………………..

  23. It is a SIN to father and fail to look after and take care of the the child ….Hell waits you many of the collar

  24. This Chief Chitambo is so lucky that the HIV/AIDS vius has eluded him…. one wonders, how many wives has he got? if he has many wives, as his target number of children is 30, he is one lucky ‘dude’ telling this tale in Zambia.

    AND…….
Some women are strong… how do you stomach it, sharing ONE husband ..openly for that matter?.. ouch/puke….my feet.!!

  25. Personally I believe if you have the means, time and the dedication to cater to all those children then by all means go for it, why criticise something that you do not understand…there is a family in the US that just had their 18th child…and they have raised very happy children and they are all educated or are getting a good education.

  26. Take it or leave. China is a reference in this matter the chief may be incomplete but he is correct in some sense. You need cheap labour to develop. This is why America developed because they had slaves who provided cheap labour. This a point in Europe as well .It tells why your brother /sister/uncle is in Britain because he /she is providing cheap labour in the diaspora..

China has the largest reserves in terms of US dollars mainly because she can produce high quality goods using her own cheap labour. You can see the little sense in what the chief was trying to say. In short, not everything the muzungu says is gospel truth. He was busy telling you to kneel down and wait for heaven when he was busy building his spaceship to get to the moon! He left you negro!!!

  27. Continued:

On the othe hand it is not wise to produce children you can not suppport. So chck your wait before you create more trouble for yourself.

  28. On the other hand , it is not wise to produce children whom you can’t support. So be not unwise think before you obey Chief Chitambo’s advice!!!!!!
    Have a goodday!!!!!

  29. But iwe #42, you are a 7th born in your family. Imagine if your father stopped at 3rd child, could we have been reading your unfounded comments today?

  30. I only I could have resources to sustain 10 children I would follow the Chief’s advise. The chief seems to be managing educating his children well. I did my BA with his some Evans Chitambo. The fellow is now doing his MBA

  31. # 17 The bible has not left the economic part . If you read Genesis 1: 28 God said multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it. In short we should not just bear children without producing food for them and producing even more for those yet to be born. Yet we have only taken one part of bible and abuse it.

  32. Ooh well, the chief maybe right but I just don’t want 10 kids. my mum had ten and only the three of us turned out to be reasonable. She wishes she only had 3. If you HAVE THE MONEY AND THE ENERGY, WHY NOT? Anyone who thinks like Chief Chitambo should be careful not to have several sexual partners because kaja kanthu kapaya. I hope you could find a woman who can get pregnant 26 times. But offcourse we all know tuma chiefs twaku zed, they marry very young girls and use them as baby making machines, so maybe this ka chief only had 2 – 4 wives. Good luck to all the baby making fimo fimo out there.

  33. Ba Moze muli kwiii? ilyashi iyi ya kulubulula naimwe …..
How can one man manage ifyintwane and have 26 children with his ‘wives’ and aiming for 30??Akumwa vichani uyu Mfumu kansi??adabwitsa maningi….. ayofya nafuti…

Now I miss Lady Chiza’s Legs.. whatever happened to this blogg personality??? a very rare breed indeed.. delivers a baby and within hours is busy blogging on L.T.

  34. these mbuyas from the north, aiming to have 30 children, and urging others to have atleast 10 makes very interesting reading.tho he’s somehow exagerated the minimum number of children, the current “fashion” of two kids pa zed fo the so called some of us or the some of us in making is equally not to be encouraged.so my mbuya chief,i’ll support yu by at least giving you four grandies, hahahahahaha! pipo are hiding in insufficient incomes as a reason for 1 or 2 children.well from subsistent farmer to teacher, policeman, nurse to professionals like Docs, engineers, economist etc can all afford to raise at least 4 children…stop being cosmetic!!
