Saint Mary’s Secondary School of Lusaka is scouting for K500 million to build a 1X4 block Flat to accommodate teachers at the school.
The School has about thirty teachers and only six teachers are accommodated in the three houses owned by the school.
Saint Mary’s School Principal Theresa Sepeti says teachers at the school are facing a acute shortage of accommodation.
Speaking after the fundraising walk in Lusaka today during which approximately K11.5 million being raised, Sister Sepeti said lack of adequate accommodation for the teachers has greatly affected the performance of the pupils at the school.
She further said most highly skilled teachers have left the school to go and join other schools because of lack of accommodation at the school.
Sister Sepeti said it was for this reason that the school would be conducting fund raising walks in order to raise the required money to build the 1X4 block flat for teachers.
And First Lady Thandiwe Banda and the Minister’s Spouses Club donated K1 million towards the building of a 1X4 block flat for teachers at the school.
Speaking in a speech read on her behalf by Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane’s wife Mate, Mrs.Banda appealed to the business community to come forward and assist the school raise the required money.
Mrs. Banda noted that the building of the 1X4 block flat for teachers who were not properly accommodated would also be of great benefit to the pupils.
She said it would be of benefit to the pupils because most teachers would be motivated to teach the pupils.
Meanwhile, School PTA Chairperson Osbert Sikazwe thanked the First Lady and the Minister’s Spouses Club for donating towards the building of the 1X4 block flat.

That is a good move. The first lady is not just talking but also acting.
1 million (150 dollars)…come on you can do better!!!!!!!
1 million donation from a first lady is a joke…..
People this is just a donation! They are not supposed to do it. give ´THANKS
i absolutely agree, she cud have done better. these days 1 million pa Zed is not much. i think that 1 million is a mockery, comming from the first lady………
Remember that the first lady does not have an NGO, She contributes to different kinds of causes that might need money, To day it can be K 1m., the next day it might be K 500, 000 to a womens club, and may after three weeks it might be K 5M to the Red cross, In this way the First lady is able to reach out to different causes.
I therefore do not think that the one million is little considering its just a contribution. It is actually possible that the first lady has little money compared to HHs wife or the speakers wife, But an impression has been given that First ladys are paid from government for their work. Considering that the first Lady has no NGO which she can use to seek donations that she can hand out, I wonder how it will be possible to dish out out money from her pocket
£125! Concerted effort! I have absolutely no comments!
I million kwacha? first lady and minister’s spouses, i really think we can do better than this.
Little is better than nothing. Its true the first lady is just trying to combine the efforts with the already existing NGOS. I believe she has the heart to help.
When I read all your lines I feel sorry for the first lady. Leadership pa zed is hard. No appreciation whatsoever!!
Give thanks
Okay ba first lady, mwagwilanchito nomba lets checkout the street kids and the orphanages, lets make a plan. Keep up the good ork, little is better than nothing, it makes a diffrence.
Could be just politeness than to say No. But since it is a gift-we can only say thanks and if more parents at that school would do something smilar the target can be met. Problem is, we are expecting too much from one person.
K 1m please mwebantu mulekwatako insoni, then K50m mwapela ba boxer. It’s really a shame, better keep the money, u r talking about £140 somewhere there. Pa Zed. If the school can manage to fundraise K11.5m, the good thing was to do it times 2.
Wait….is this K1 million from the First Lady [i][and/i] the minister’s spouses? That’s incredible. Did they all donate K50 pin each? They should think of targeting diasporians through the web to help out. They could advertise it here! I’m sure even students could match the each spouse’s contribution.
To those who are saying K1 mil is too cheap – Please show us how its supposed to be done, lead the way in contributing to my former school. Viva St Mary’s!
Minister’s spouses club?????????? elo K1m.. its better than nothing anyway…
If she donates a considerable amount of money then people will be asking ati ndalama zichokela kuti? Do we want to go back to the days of the presidentia fund of Chiluba which was govt money used as patronage?
