The MMD in Livingstone has decided to endorse President Rupiah Banda as the ideal candidate for the 2011 general elections. MMD Provincial Chairman, Sol Muzyamba said President Banda would be maintained as the sole candidate to represent the party in the 2011 general elections since the party wanted continuity.

Mr Muzyamba was speaking when he welcome President Banda in Livinstone this afternoon.

President Banda urged MMD officials in the Province to work hard in order to gain more support in Choma, Monze, Kazungula and other districts in the province that are still opposition strongholds.

He pledged to work extra hard to deliver on his promises to the nation so that he could merit being the sole MMD Presidential candidate following the resolution by the MMD in Livingstone to endorse him as the ideal candidate for the 2011 general elections.

The President said he would work extra hard so as not to embarrass and let down the rest of the country.

The President is in Livingstone to officiate at a two-day 6th Zambia International Business Advisory Council (ZIBAC) conference at Zambezi Sun hotel.

Mr. Banda said the ZIBAC conference would help him and his cabinet to get better ideas on how the country could survive the global economic crunch.

  1. Jamaco and all that type after, do they no(know) with no disrespect that Rupiah is in his seventies. Though any age is okay, for our clear concious we need a younger more equipped candidate. 2009 and someone opening their mouths to polute our peoples ears. Let him go up against the tests of virtue, like we do here let it be an open vote to the public for party presidents.

  2. They want continuity, let Mr. Banda continue on into retirement, or the other option is to campaign and run for his seat. No more one egg a day for every Zambian KK times, it is earning your keep time, as said in the Bible. Democracy was not given to us to read about in books e need to experience and use it fully.

  3. In Malawi following May 19, 2009 General elections, incumbant President Dr.Mbingu Wa Mutharika 75 is thus far inflicting scaring lead on the opposition collision led by Veteran John Tembo 77.Malawi elections nos. 5.9m voters, 3,900 poll booths Seven presidential contenders 1,100 candidates for 193 seats28. The election pits President Bingu wa Mutharika against John Tembo, a career politician who worked under former President Hastings Banda. Mr. Banda ruled as a dictator for more than 30 years.Mr. Mutharika, who has a Ph.D. in economics, is lauded by supporters and critics alike for spurring impressive growth in the tiny, impoverished nation, and is expected to win a second five-year term. His Democratic Progressive Party, however, may fail to win a majority in the 193-seat parliament,…

  4. Woow if i remember well this man said he wouldn’t stand, and here it is the man is thinking of standing. Where is the democracy if these people are busy singing thing sole candidate bull$h**! People in the MMD are primitive, they think anyone in state house is a god, if Banda is such a good candidate now, why wasn’t he so much of a good candidate when Mwanawasa was alive? If i remember correctly these same guys praised Mwanawasa so much that they went to the extent of saying he was the ONLY one to deliver Zambia from its poverty, surprisingly now they have found someone else. If Sata won today, the same mouths will sing the same song for Sata. I feel for my Country, we neeed a change of leadership, a young crop of leaders with bright ideas, people like HH, Clive Chirwa CDP members etc.

  5. He he he ehe ehe ehe e..drama in MMD where does this leave Prof Chirwa, Magande and all those wanna be presidos, 2016?..cha diba mu MMD

  6. If the world governance was entirely left to men and women, chaos will be the resultant.Since there is God above order is maintained, though very strangely . In 2001 the call was for third term, did it happen ? RB ,there is time for everything ,retire with honor. Let the young rule.

  7. Mwaliba ubupuba mu Zambia kwena. Where are we heading to? Nshakabwele pa Zed mwakula chula ifyo fine.

  8. Ifikote sure????? IFIKOTE SURE,THE OVERDUES,OUTDATED, OLD FASHIONED,ARCHIVALS,RUSTED,SLOW PACED,RIGID(INFLEXIBLE),BRAINWASHED; WHERE HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A 70 YEAR OLD MAN APPLYING FOR A PLOT AT THE COUNCIL? nOWHERE!!! MEANING THAT THESE CHAPS CANT DEVELOP ZED. WE ARE DOOMED IN ZAMBIA. SATA,VJ,MUNKOMBWE,RB ARE PIPO THAT WE DONOT NEED IN THE POLITICAL FRONT OF ZAMBIAN LEADERSHIP. THEY ARE DECRIBED HERE IN ABOVE. i REST MY CASE.

  9. PRESIDENT Banda says he is ready to be adopted as MMD presidential candidate in the 2011 general elections but that his selection should be based on merit and hard work.

And Mr Banda has advised MMD members to ignore the sustained insults targeted at him by the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Mr Banda said he would work hard not to embarrass the MMD and Zambians because of the confidence people have shown in him.

This was after Southern Province MMD chairman Solomon Muzhyamba declared that the party has decided to support Mr Banda during the 2010 party convention and the general elections in 2011.

Mr Banda was speaking yesterday at the Livingstone International Airport after arrival from Lusaka.
    Mr Banda said Southern…

  10. How can RB retire people? He is scared TB will put on her running shoes and leave the old man.
It is the image (private) he is scared of. Put yourself in his shoes people.

  11. this could be the begining of the end for the MMD. the RB administration has been associated with more corruption in very few months they have been in power that most MMB members are not happy to be associated with RB and later on the MMD itself. Now that RB has started entertaining calls to stand in 2011 despite his failed record as president, its just a question of time before we start hearing of serious resignations from the MMD and the formation of new political parties. This notwithstanding, RB still has a chance to honourably say that he would not stand and that he would let young blood to take over, so that he enjoys his retirement. BUT its RB even when he has to choose between two right decisions, he will still go for a bad one!!!!!!!!!1

  12. Yaah! Bushe kanshi just how sweet is Plot 1? Endorsement my a..! Its all stage managed, just like that march onto state house where those 2 guys were fired. What excuse are we going to be given this time? Continuation of the ‘legacy’? Completion of developmental programmes? We need new progressive leaders, now is the time, whether its in MMD,PF,APC etc we need NEW BLOOD!

  13. we have told you pipo that where there’s Mulongoti,Teta and VJ…no reasonable thinking takes place…RB just has to retire and die peacefully at his farm in Chipata..we dont have money for a state funeral again!!its expensive…we need young men now!sata and RB shud rest…this Muzyamba ***** is just job hunting….ulimuyanga kadal yebo!!you don’t represent Southern province nind you…this is in the minds of people…one thing we need to know is our allegiance is with us wherever we go…England or america but will still be Luvale and my allegiance will be like i wish for!

  14. OOh No! God help us…….Lets be careful not to allow RB in 2011. May the God above who answers prayers deliver us from RB like he delivered children of Israel please. RB is not the right man for zed. The few months RB has been in power have been a disaster, what more in 5 years. Now RB will bring chief rigger in……may the wrath of GOD stop this rot!!!!

  15. Sabman…you are right we need new blood. Thats why this country cannot develop the same old pipo from unip want to continue, they cant ryme with the modern world. We need young blood !!!…We need young blood!!!….we need young blood!!!
The problem we have in zambia is that we have too many job seekers. Deep down their hearts they dont want this man(RB) but they want jobs…how sad!!!

  16. This is what happens when young people leave the majority voters to be the uneducated nkotes (Old people no disrespect please), because they are busy playing games, parting, just chilling or simply just minding their own business and then you complain that Zambia is doomed. The youth in Zambia should wake up. It was the youth in South Africa that played a major role in putting Jacob Zuma were he is today.

  17. Interesting comments indeed. My Nephew Big Dog is fully aware that Zambia is a Christian Nation and that the choices of the people are a God inspired. We have produced many democratic nations in the African region. God wont reward us vice for virtues.Whether RB, Sata, Hichilema etc.. our fate is very safe. Power is sweet, protective, influencial etc.. but God is the ultimate decider. Lets be careful with our comments rest God finds us in idle launguage. I believe God will Give us his choice. Zambia is after all more important for us than any other individual or idealogy. God bless Zambia.

  18. This is really disturbing. I have actually developed a headache. Cant this man prove to the Zambians that he still has some bit of integrity by standing tall on his words. This man said he was just going to be president for 3 years and now today he is excited by these boot lickers who do not want to their jobs. Hasn’t he done enough damage. Please God help us.

  19. It is rather unfortunate that we have turned our precious democracy into a “Monarchy”. A monarchy in that we have been ruled by the same families/people from independence time. My challenge to our elders, Mr. Banda and Mr. Sata is that, they embress competition at their national execituves with an open mind. There are so many “kandiles” in the government to an extent where, you Mr. President is shielded from the truth on the ground. Case in mind is our Mr. Kaunda who was misled prior to 1991 elections. Kandiles were telling him all was okay when things on the ground were completely different. OBAMA IS RULING USA, lets learn from it. DO NOT STAY ON THE YOUNGER CANDIDATES!!!

  20. I was just thinking, all workers have a retirement age. Why cant the NCC make a provision for a Maximum age for the President in the constitution, this will automatically qualify and disqualify certain people. I know this is a novelty but still something to think about. what do you think!!!!

  21. He wants it, he will get it.A big defeat is coming your way big man RB.you think we are happy because 10 people out of a million with an opportunity to speak through a microphone tel you such unpleasant news to read will motivate you to stand.think twice about this and quickly start your own campaign of choosing your successor.i think its time for that merge between sata and HH.we have to rid this country of greedy individuals.Even our Christ the Lord never clung on after promising to God to let what is written come to pass.you promised it was levys’ legacy you had come to complete Mr RB and that was that period.just don’t be too excited yet.NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. This is nonsence!! you mean there no better people than this shrekkkkkkkkkkk?
Zambians when are we going to learn to elect young energetic, brilliant leaders like Lubinda. This is disgusting, really!!! RB should go back to the farm.
I am starting a RED CARD Ribbon for him.
    any seconders,please???

  23. Indeed RB is the most cheated man in this country. How the hell could Solomon Muzyamba and Danwell Munkombwe endorse RB as the sole candidate for 2011 under MMD? What is known fact is Southern is a stronghold for HH,just like Northen and Luapula being for King Cobra. The 2 old gentlemen are supposed to retired in national interest. Last time Danwell clearly commement that Zambian politics are for personal benefits. Solo & Danwell have passed their usefulness and supposed to be confined to the political backyards and be story tellers on the past glorious political past. This modern time need energetic and fast thinkers to provide able quality leadership to Zambians to measure up current global challenges. Its a matter of a blind man leading another blind man. RB be careful with Solo & Dan

  24. What a dull thing to do!! How can you make such a proposal a year before the convention without knowing whether there are any other viable candidates. Seems like someone has just started drumming up support early. Yet they are so quick to castigate other potential candidates without listening to their manifestos. Shame!!!

  25. …I smell another MMD era after 2011…then a presido by-election….Zambians sure wake up.Abakote bena awe twakana….including Sata……..SAMBMAN ulishani my friend “we never walk fweka”!

  26. this is absolute nonsense. even if he was young, he is outdated and has brought nothing to the presidency. at this rate, am forced to consider fr. bwalya’s stance and vote for HH. No need of recycled unip-ists like sata and the like. Go HH, new blood, fresh blood and young blood!

  27. – “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”- Abraham Lincoln

  28. HH this is yo time.just re-organise yoself and rise up to the people cries!we are all tied, twanaka, twaleema of these OLD leaders.we want fresh young blood.

  29. Here we go again. Cadres really know how to woodwink there leaders and retain there jobs. Nosence characters.

  30. This man has no vision for Zambia what plan has he got after 2011.Does he want to finish off the zambians (carry them in the hearses) and put their spirits in pots using his sangomas. Zambians wake up this man is zimbabwean and said so and is very proud of it. Why do we hate our own the satas,HH,Magande and Kopulandes who are in MMD. The MMD said the 19 aspiring Presidential candidates during mwanawasas death should wait until 2011 because RB was just for the interim what has changed. if u want to destroy Zambia then vote for RB 2011.

  31. When I was in grade 12, Kaunda accompanied by RB come to Kawambwa….and we were told the future bring to ‘you’ us the youth….but still RB and KK are still in the picture… what is cut-off. date…when will us the youth be in charge of national affairs. We see the same faces (apart from HH) Sata, VJ, munkombwe etc… In Zambia we have seriuos generation gaps in terms of politics.

  32. RB again, you must be kidding me. The guy was beaten in a parliamentary election by Mr kampata a teacher(Headmaster@ Munali Sec) . I was in my early teens then, and now I am in my fortys. The guy is still in politics. Time to go Mr RB.

  33. #35 MMD is now confused, they wanted to block someone to stand and advocated for age limit. Now since they have been caught up, age is now not mentioned at NCC instead they have shifted to entry qualifications for presdo. Chilishani kanshi ! Osayopa.

  34. What has RB done for Zambia that he should be given another chance. This man should seriously sit and evaluate himself he shouldn’t pretend to always following what pipo want for him let him come out in the open and tell us his vision, not teta’s or the bootlickers. I think Magande should be considered he seems to have a vision unlike old bally.

  35. what the hel is going on, these pipo cn t be serious, we need some new pipo to run the country, R B has not done a thing since comming being in power, lets start a LT Bloggers party and go back . what policies has RB proposed.?

  36. at the rate at which we are going, vimadala vekha vekha, awe sure! Amore Presidential funerals mu state house. Mpaka mpaka

  37. u know the phrase…once again it’s on..To be honest we all knew the man would not let 2011 slide!! Its just pathetic that people are already rallying for such nonsense..and unfortunately they will win because we are always gullible..we vote, they will lag while some opposition leader will be leading then last provinces they win…after wards we cry foul for a week and then continue with our lives…sad

  38. With due respect to our President, let him stand but let him lose.I dont really think he is an inspiration, and leadership is about this important word “inspiration”. Without it, no direction and without direction, no purpose and without purpose, no existence and without existence no nation. We dont want a failed state! The same goes for Sata, the only difference is that he can inspire some people with vulganess. He is a foul mouthed, grumpy old man with signs of ethnic leanings. May God bless the Republic!
