Share

Zesco United maintained their unbeaten run today after drawing 1-1 at home against Red Arrows at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

The match was played at Arthur Davies which is one of two designated venues on the Copperbelt for TV coverage of Zambian league matches by satellite TV giant SuperSport.

Meanwhile, Zesco remain second despite the draw on 21 points 4 less than Zanaco who beat  Chambishi 3-0 way on Saturday.

However, Zesco were made hard to work for the victory against an enterprising Arrows who took the lead in the 44th minute through a sweetly struck goal from Lawrence Pondani.

Pondani’s goal benefited from a Judge Mkandawire cross after the latter stole the ball off  midfielder Mathews Chikwete midway through Zesco’s own half.

The goal came just 5 minutes after Chiwanki Liyinga saw his free kick tapped out for safety by Zesco goalkeeper Kabwe Chansa.

Changes in the second half for Figthton Simukonda paid dividence when he made a double substitution bringing on Jackson Mwanza and Siloni Jere for Maybin Mwaba and Yona Mwango respectively in the 48th minute respectively.

And it was Mwanza who blasted in a rebounding shot in side the box in the midst of some mayhem in the 6-yard box to hand Zesco a share of the points.

  1. Zesco will be under pressure through out this season due to their qualification to the last 8 of the champions league. Each league game will be hard in that the are the team to beat. Fighton Simukonda should analyze his game plan weel and look to finding a dependable striker to notch in goals if they are to chase Zanaco and contend forest rangers and GBFC. and retain the super league in 2009.

  2. For those who are interested in mature and informative discussions, there are three excellent interviews on zambiablogradio dot com featuring in separate sessions, Former Minister Ngandu Magande, the great Dennis Liwewe and Faz President Kalusha Bwalya.

  3. That was a good game and please keep up the good work, but more needs to be done especially on the front line, remember that every game is important!
