PF, UPND pact futile – Mulenga

Share

THE MMD in Central Province has said that the pact between the Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) is an exercise of futility.

MMD Provincial Secretary, Roy Mulenga, told ZANIS in an interview in Kabwe today that it will be very difficult for any political party to unseat the ruling MMD especially now that it is very strong.

“We have the confidence that President Rupiah Banda will perform to greater heights and many people will be surprised and from what we have gathered the focus to remove MMD is the core business of any political party which is not an agenda,” he said.

Mr Mulenga said that the pact between the PF and UPND was merely a memorandum of understanding and not a merger or coalition as it is not there on the ground and it will never take off.

Mr Mulenga said that this was not the first time that the two political parties had tried to form a pact which simply meant that the two were not going anywhere in there efforts.

“If I quote them correctly, Hakainde Hichilema said the main core is that they should not attack each other inside and outside parliament and that does not hold.

“It is not the first time that they will try to form a pact and we do not see them going anywhere,” he added.[quote]

“As a party, we are ready to face any challenge with regards to any coalition or merger and it does not cause any threat. We are not sitting idle because we are touching the grassroots,” Mr Mulenga said.

He said that PF president, Michael Sata’s remarks that the MMD will disturbalise the pact is not true because as a party they would not waste time on a fruitless pact like that of PF and UPND.

  1. Well looking at the way things are moving in the country, MMD will not win the next elections unless of course VJ riggs them. The people are fed up with the lawlessness from the MMD. Infact even people living abroad should be given a chance to vote so that we hit them from all directions.

  2. While the unity of opposition parties lessens tension to some extent in a country, it is yet to be seen how this pact will be different from past ones. One thing remains very clear ,the King Snake can not be trusted.

  3. MMD is fighting against God’s plan and they won’t succeed. God is able to use anybody who has a heart for the poor. May the lord protect Mr Sata and Mr HH. Someone needs to remind MMD of what happened to Pharoah and his army when they decided to pursue the Israelites when they had left Egypt. The red sea swallowed them, MMD stand back and see how God will deliver the suffering Zambians from the hands of Pharoah (Oppressers). Let’s contine praying and calling upon our God day and night to deliver us from our oppressors.God bless Zambia.

  4. It may not be MMD in govt. after 2011 but definitly not the pact as it will not go far. The truth of the matter is that both the leaders want to go to state house and be commander in chief of the armed forces. SATA made it very clear that they are not coming as one but as two giants and I wonder how it will work. Sometime back HH said he does not trust Sata because he has had so many u-turns in life and is not consistent with what he does and I now wonder what has made this HH to start having u-turns as well. Come 2011 let the best party rule us.

  5. guys we can bet MMD is wining the next elections no matter what…………… contact me i will tell you [email protected] at the moment there is no party in zambia that can offset mmd from that position. yess mmd will lose during voting but during annoucment mmd will win.
we do not have facilities to deter corruption/election fraud which is still the problem we are facing.even when the political parties 30 of the them came 2gether munama MMD will win…………………rain or no rain MMD VIVA 2011

  6. If the only reason UPND and PF want from this pact is to unsit MMD, maybe it will work. But unlike PF, UPND have a plan beyond State House. PF’s plan ends at State House. Also, contrary to popular belief, Sata isn’t exactly a ‘man for the poor’. If he is, show me at least 1 charity that he runs, or anyone who has ever been helped by Sata.

The two parties are poles apart. Removing MMD is one thing. Ruling is another. I see a better pact between UPND and MMD than PF and UPND. The only reason UPND does not support MMD is bcoz UPND is in opposition.

  7. They don’t say how this pact will work, who will be their presidential candidate and how they’ll pick parliamentary candidates in each constituency. I don’t think Sata or HH are prepared to yield the top position. This pact is doomed.

  8. Why are MMD political party members now panicking. We have heard from Minister Mulongoti and party leader Kande. Now, this MMD Central Provincial Secretary Roy Mulenga! On his ““It is not the first time that they will try to form a pact and we do not see them going anywhere,” he added“, has he become a false prophet? How come he seems to know the future?.
MMD concentrate on sloving your internal problems as you look up to ““We have the confidence that President Rupiah Banda will perform to greater heights and many people will be surprised and from what we have gathered the focus to remove MMD is the core business of any political party which is not an agenda,” he said“. Let PF and UPND do their things alone, please.

  9. As for ““If I quote them correctly, Hakainde Hichilema said the main core is that they should not attack each other inside and outside parliament and that does not hold“, let ua all wait and see what PF and UPND are up to as we allow them do their things alone.

I am positive that given the right advice, by good advisors, the Undereducate PF leader will let young educated men carry on the vision for Zambia by disbanding PF and joining the mighty UPND as a cadre. Three (3) solid years before the 2011 tripartite elections is enough time to iron out all differences and make PF die a natural death while the UPND will be rebranded and strengthened in the process by the joining and rejoining of outsiders and former insiders alike.

  10. i think the pact will work. lets first give it some time and see how it works. please zambians dont be judgemental

  11. Let us see what happens when SATA is implicated in the 10billion, 27billion or 64Billion MOH saga. I wish it fails. The post has shifted from Zambian Airways to MOH, when this was all started with SATA when he was minister during Chiluba’s regime and created CBoH as a safe haven

  12. The announcement that UPND and PF has entered have signed into a Pact could provide a potent force against the ruling party. However recent history of pacts between parties has not yielded results so that even the is one does not give sufficient confidence to the majority of peole that following the politics in this country. Pacts alone will not change anything unless the players involved translate them into concrete actions

  13. Lusaka Times, your stories of late are Pro-MMD. Any small person fron MMD that coughs iscovered. What is suprsing is you cannot even see it. Please, be impartial in your reporting.

  14. I think this time PFand UPND will mean to lead MMD and its corrupt activities out ,its us there followers who can make this happen .Lets unite and try onother GOVT by 2011 to stop the already reach being reacher instead the gap be reduced

  15. #6 I entirely agree with you! These chaps are so greedy that the pact is doomed even before it is actually formed. That is why they are not saying who is going to be their presidential candidate. A pact just for the purpose of removing MMD is totally futile. A pact should be based on a proper agenda. Mr. Sata has not agenda apart from going to State House!!!! Does anyone on this blog remember why PF was formed? Sata only left MMD because he was not adopted by Chiluba to contest 2001 elections. He has not heart for the people or any good reasoning at all. He just wants to go on record as having been president! HH would do better forming a pact with MMD if he really wants to have a chance at the presidency. Otherwise he is wasting his time. Mr. Mulenga you are right on this one!

  16. #11 SATELITE Aftnun. Today we are pals. For me it doesnt matter who heads the coalition as long as they come up with a formular that will suit the parties involve ie, the 2 presidents, their members and the general Zambian public. You and me can offer advise on common ground. People dismissing this pact are simply scared.

  17. REFLECTIONS ON THE NEWEST ODD COUPLE

Someone told me that Sata and Hichilema are not able to sustain a marriage. The next person agreed adding, “Not even a marriage of convenience.” A third person stated that the best that Sata and Hichilema could have was a one night stand. A fourth person added, “Even if the two got into a one night stand; one of them would walk out in the middle of the night.”

  18. #22 Just admit that youd want this pact to fail since if worked it pose biggest threat to sitting gvt since 1991. Its not your baby is the 2 cannot see eye to eye, but you have a problem in that it might just work.and you want to believe that you just dreaming and hope to wake up to find that indeed its just a dream.

  19. 21 Deja Vu greetings. On your “#11 SATELITE Aftnun. Today we are pals. For me it doesnt matter who heads the coalition as long as they come up with a formular that will suit the parties involve ie, the 2 presidents, their members and the general Zambian public“, good that you have come round. As for me, I do not hate anyone not even a dog for God, after Creating everything, said it was good.

In light of this, your “You and me can offer advise on common ground” sounds genuine and I hope you will be consistent.

Otherwise, all the best to both PF and UPND as they consider destroying on completely so that their comes a full merger with one unity of purpose in 2011 before the elections.

  20. Lets wait and see! They are both eyeing for the big seat. Hichilema should allow abakalamba to teach him inchito then he takes over after. If he insists he wants to lead Zambia. Ala ndemyeba ichishinka tabakawine. One of them has to stoop low. Only then will they unseat ba Mukukulu aba! It is time they even concentrated on strategising on the 2011 elections. These frivolous issues should not disturb them.

  21. So you guys ..what do you want in Zambia??? MMD to continue plundering? Then let us not complaint , MMD should continue rulling.

  22. It is not that people who are saying the pact won’t work want MMD to continue plundering! It is being realialistic about the issue at hand. You only have to read about previous pacts before and the character of the people involved in this whole thing. The MMD will continue to rule for as long as the people who want to go to State House do not have a real agenda for Zambia at heart. Right now none of them is humble enough to hold a convention for fear of losing to a challenger. They run these parties as personal tuntembas with no real reason to go to govt apart from personal glory. God forbid that such characters should be given power!

  23. Hichilema out of wisdom but obsession for power has publicly insulted iconic leader late Andy Mazoka in his Grave.HH has taken Mazoka’s UPND into marriage of convenience late Andy cursed and vowed never condone with Sata.

This publicly made insult has left Andy turning in his Grave asking why and where are mature and impeccable UPND loyalists to let HH dump UPND in a dungeon of Sata, Nsanda, Kambwili, Kadoli, Jean Kapata, Frank Bwalya, Mukupa, and Kayope a legion of kaponyas.

  24. Folks this is the dumbest misplaced academic exercise in futility Zambians are coming to learn in modern democratic dispensation. Mazoka was indeed super smart that disposable HH Sata is using as a mop rag. No wonder from the scratch Mazoka ran a formidable alternative Government in waiting to MMD.

  25. You Death with your sting, cursed is the day you were pronounced death. It is you death that has thrown UPND into this ICU.HH has lamentably failed and systematically killed the Party of Mazoka. Unwittingly, with his immaturity and desperation he has resorted to publicly insulting Mazoka in his Grave for his wisdom that vowed to burry Sata third term and move the country forward. What a shame HH has lined UPND for in 2011.Now I understand why Southern province Chiefs are turning their backs against him for MMD.

  26. Mazoka was one of Zambia’s honorable and accomplished statesmen with national posture yet without desperation or a heart for politics of convenience with thugs HH is dragging UPND in. What an insult to Andy!

  27. 48 Senior Citizen, was it not late UPND president Anderson K. Mazoka who invited those who left the MMD at a press conference, if I remember correctly, who invited all those that left Chiluba’s thrid time reigning of MMD as president to join the UPND in 2001? This follows your “Any founder member of UPND is alarmed that Hichilema with his futile marriage of convenience out of wisdom but obsession for power has publicly insulted iconic leader late Andy Mazoka turning in his Grave” and thus let us use real truth in blogging so that people can have accurate data.

  28. 30 to 33 senior citizen. Apologies for the reference to 48 above.

However, what I can not remember is whether the Undereducate PF leader Sata MC was among those that were invited by Mazoka to UPND, but HP self appointed leader Brig. Gen. Miyanda and the FDD people were certainly among that group because they were aggrieved after the Chiluba Third Term bid for country presidency took a serious path – though it later failed.

  29. No. 23. Relax and reflect on whether this marriage of convenience will get anywhere. At the end of the day it will be clear as to “who is doing who” in this arrangement. Learn to relax and reflect rather than rant and rave.

  30. Let’s not rush to conclusions. Time will tell as we get closer to the election date. The top leaders have agreed to the MoU stipulatiions but what remains is for the party members to go with what the top leaders have agreed to.

  31. No way,,,, if sata becomes a leader of merger party. he will loose to rupiah banda,,,,,,,HH stands chance because copperbelt can vote for HH IF SATA compaigns for him, not otherway round believe me. it should be clear sata is not trusted by other region apart from bemba speaking areas. This pact should be carefully thought out , but there is dark corner need to be trust, sata and HH can form a better opposition but all of them wants to be president, we want somebody who can be supported by all zambian,,,,to give powerfull challenge to rupiah banda.

  32. Roy Mulenga can say whatever he want but the fact is that the MMD is no longer strong, come 2011 and that will be the case

  33. # 40, Why collusions if you believe MMd is on its knees? Isthis a sign of your gnorance of GAP analysis? Doesn’t take issue based campaign to unseat unpopular and weak party? MMD now and beyond 2011.

  34. I Agree with what the old man Mr. Sata`s views that it is too early to start talking about who will be the candidate to lead the upnd/pf pact in 2011. Why can`t we wait for the organ that has been put to do its job? Those that are suggesting names should be patient.
