Algeria Are Favorites Now-Renard

Share

Herve Renard has said Satuday’s home defeat at the hands of Algeria has ended Zambia’s chances of realistically qualifying for the 2010 World Cup finals.

An efficient Algeria beat Renards side 2-0 at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe to top the table on 7 points from three matches while Zambia remain second on 4 points also from three games.

Egypt and Rwanda are bottom and third respectively on a  1 points each after two games and only meet on July 5 in their delayed third game in Cairo that was postponed due to the Pharaohs Fifa Confederations Cup commitments.

Renard said in a post-match interview at Konkola on Saturday that it was now clear what hit the African champions in their away match a fortnight ago when Algeria beat them 3-1 on June 7 in Blida.

“Now we have to declare that Algeria are favorites,” Renard said.

However, the Frenchman put on a brave face to declare that Zambia has three matches to redeem their pride on the road to the Africa Cup in Angola and ultimately World Cup finals.

“But anything can happen in football, we have three games remaining,” he said. “We are a young team and are learning.”

Renard has two and a half months to plan for the return leg to be played on September 5 in Algiers.

Moreover, Renard has been handed the unenviable task to try and avert de-ja-vu of 1985 when Algeria dished out back-to-back defeats in Zambia’s 1986 World Cup qualifying campaign.

This time the scenario has been exacerbated by prospect of avoiding another home defeat against Egypt on October 10 at Konkola when Zambia return from Algiers before facing Rwanda away in their final game on November 14.

Renard has always been very philosophical about the virtues of footballs school of humility and the difficult challenge to make a dramatic recovery has been handed to the Frenchman.

  1. Theres nothing to say here, apart from the fact that algeria was clearly the more efficient side on the day.statisticaly zambia was the better team, but the most important statistic in soccer is goals scored..now we have to hope for a slip up frm them(highly unlikely tho),en not slip up ourselves(again, highly improbable)…

  2. he’s only saying the truth, but in zambia people will hate you for doing that. secure us a place at the africa cup and then we can pick up the pieces from there.

  3. Zambia needs new national-wide recruitment. Choose sizes of people who when trained properly can crack any team. Put them on national training program for two years. Physically train them, Technically prepare them. You may invite the army to infuse in them some combat training so that they can start thinking in tactics like at war. Before long you will have a team too strong to push around by any African team. Too brilliant to cheat in tactics. And if they can avoid self destructive behavoiur of alchol and girls, then they will be too desplined to trick. Stop waiting for chances and start working for it. Maybe Zambian leadrership is the first problem. Zambia is a good country, but decision by leadership is always questionable.
By now Zambia would lead in many areas, but ??(brains)

  4. The main problem with Zambian football is that it is mainly left to one class of people. Those considered to have failed to make it with education and employment. What this means is people who can think strategically are missing. Everyone is busy counting what one will get after the game for his survival. Second, the physical built of individuals is not very good. This also affects what Zambia can do physically. With good training, good physic, and good mental capacity, no one can doubt Zambia. Once in a while, Zambia produces someone with good physic, (Chitalu, Zoom, Mbesuma, Efford etc), good mental capacity (Kalusha, Charles Musonda , Alex Chola) and you have seen how they caused havoc. If mbesuma had brains, he would have been an assert in the game , but see his mental capacity

  5. # 4, I WILL DIFFER WITH YOU ON TACTICS LIKENED TO WAR. LOOK AT GREEN BUFFALOES, THOSE GUYS ARE SOLDIERS PER SAY BUT DO THEY EMPLOY THOSE SAME TACTICS YOU SUGGEST. I WILL ON THE OTHER HAND AGREE WITH YOU WHEN YOU SAY OUR GUYS NEED TO HAVE THE BRAINS. KALU WAS A GREAT PLAYER FOR ZAMBIA BUT HE REALY MESSED UP AS A COACH AND AS IF THAT IS NOT ENOUGH HE EVEN GOT THE TOP SEAT AT FAZ AND NOW ITS NOTHING BUT CHAOS. THESE GUYS(NATIONAL TEAM) WANTED PROPER TRAINING FACILITIES, THEY WENT TO S.A AND WHAT DO WE THE TAKE PAYERS GET IN RETURN. DISMAL PERFORMANCES IN BOTH HOME GAMES, NOTHING IMPRESSIVE TO TALK ABOUT. THEY SHOULD LEARN TO ATTACH GREAT IMPORTANCE TO ANY GAME.

  6. Impressive, but I hope the “Herve Renard has said Satuday’s home defeat at the hands of Algeria has ended Zambia’s chances of realistically qualifying for the 2010 World Cup finals” is just an analysis by the reporter and not words of the coach himself. I believe Zambia is still in contention and Zambia with the others teams Egypt and Rwanda can beat Algeria in all the remaining games; So, let us pray the games to win.

    1Pe 3 + KJV Bible:
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

  7. I hear coach Herve Renard told the Zambian players after the defeat: “I told you that they would beat us!”

  8. That’s what learning is, after all; not whether we lose the game, but how we lose and how we’ve changed because of it and what we take away from it that we never had before, to apply to other games. Losing, in a curious way, is winning.

  9. why is the coach focusing on the africa cup of nations,we have always qualified for the africa cup,so let him not think that will be an achievement.

  10. Please select an experienced team, zambia is a great footballing country and we have no time to learn. In fact it is the coach who is learning how to do his job.

  11. If egypt beats algeria then we beat egypt and rwanda draws algeria again and we beat algeria as rwanda will be drawing egypt who we shall win then zambia has a marginal chance. Good maths and wishes. If if if if if if if ……………………………………………………….

  12. Ifs have never worked for zambia, its up to us to shape our destiny not other teams by winning all our remaining matches

  13. Zambian footballers need to be clinical. The difference between the two teams was that though Zambia were statistically superior, the did not convert any of the 6 or so chances they had, whilst Algeria did.

  14. Let the best teams go to the world cup. If you cannot perform, the surest thing that will happen to you at the world cup, is embarrass yourselves. The levels of football is moving up. In Zambia, teams are dying. It will never come back until Primary Schools and Secondary Schools start playing like they used to. Foundation is fundamental.

  15. same old talk. does’nt anyone get it?
it’s a psychological thing….. what zambia needs to invest in is a very good sports psychologist and the rest will fall into place

  16. Habupampu
Just like you, I dont believe in impossibles. I dont believe that it is impossible to beat Algeria at their home. I dont believe its now impossible for Zambia to qualify for the 2010 world cup. Its up to the players to have self belief. They should ignore those who are always waiting for the team to trip like Mwanamayo. They will qualify

  17. This it time for HR to swallow his pride and drop amateur Singulam and have Chamanga back. We also need Sinkala. This is our county. HR will leave and we will remain with failures.

  18. I have always stated that should not believe in HR as coach but that there is no harm in keeping him, how can he fail to analyse that we lost because of the bad turf. He is supposed to be more objective in building confidence in the players. Can some body tell him that qualifying for Africa cup simply maintains our status quo but the World Cup.

How i wish Kalu was still coach. We so how he psyched the boys though we lost due to lack of experience.

By the way losing at home is not an issue today. The issue is to see to it that we win games not necessarily with luck on our side but with playing a codinated game whether long balls or what ever.

    Nomba we coach niwe ulezala.

There is need to blend the team with time. Experience, talent, skill, psychological prepared ness,…

  19. Afrika Cup? My foot! What are we giong to do that we haven’t done in the 101timez we have gone there? Winning all our home gamez, plus another draw or better away waz going to be the only near sure way of Zambia going the World Cup 2010. Just the Afrika Cup yet again…., why not send ZESCO this time-round?

  20. We can invest the money being spend on zambia national team in grassroot soccer and the local league and infrastructure like stadia. What is happening now are just fruitless efforts by a few poeple to who want to make a name for themselves that they took zambia to WC blur blur blur..We have some good players but selfishness is eating our chances of going forward. Solution is invest in Stadia, invest in the local league and grassroots…employ a zambian coach like Wedson Nyiirenda assisted by Fighton Simukonda (These should be the best coaches we have) and finally have a FAZ president who does not malinga around too much for his own benefit.

  21. I have read physical stature has been mentioned, disciline, tactics and all that has been said. But i think like someone has already mentioned it has also to do with the psychology of our players. When they come against these Arab nations they just lose it completely and partly due to what we know has been happening for years where Zambia has faired poorly against the North African opponents…and when our players are reminded of this they are psychologically defeated.I believe once we help them overcome this hurdle we shall be doing well against any powerhouse on the African Continent. My other point is that we should not rush to blame the coach each time the team loses as i believe no coach likes to see his team lose(no matter how bad the team is).Maybe we stop expecting too much of the team

  22. continued…..and our players should take the blame for their poor performance. In conclusion,it’s back to if…if….if….if….But cheer up lads we gonna win the Africa Cup for a start.I had a dream…..PEACE!!!!!!

  23. Ba LT, can you please give us the results for Copperbelt league(Division1 North). We are sick and tired of this crab about the national soccer team.I can assure you of the three remaining games, we can only manage a draw against Egypt at home and lose in Algeria and Rwanda.

  24. Ala bane I told u ati Algeria nakwata game ,now you are back to the if if if if if if,forget it.Even Egypt akatuponona pa nganda.I dont know how we held the Paharaos in Cairo but in reality Zambia will finish third if not not fourth..Zambians freak out when they meet Arabs…Dont keep your hopes high.
