MMD members in Mpulungu reject imposition of leader

Share

MMD members in Mpulungu have rejected a decision by some of their leaders at provincial level to impose a constituency chairman. The members claim the means are undemocratic and that they are capable of choosing their own leader.

MMD sources revealed that some provincial official had slotted a preferred name from the district level in the area, to take over as constituency chairman, a position that has remained vacant following the resignation of George Tembo earlier this year.

The source said members outrightly rejected the decision saying they felt that the MMD is a democratic party where leaders must be chosen through elections for transparency and accountability.
“We proposed to the top leadership at the province that if they want to go ahead with the plot, let them proceed but that such a person will not be accepted at the grass root’’, MMD insiders said.

The sources said it was resolved that elections for the position of party constituency chairman be held preferably next week, when district chairman Edward Chelleh who is out of town, returns to Mpulungu.
The members felt that there was also need to fill up other positions that fell vacant in the party structure through death, resignations and transfer of personnel, as the party gears itself for the 2011 general elections.

The former constituency chairman George Tembo resigned citing personal frustrations in the party. He has since been elected as Mpulungu district council chairman.

  1. “The source said members outrightly rejected the decision saying they felt that the MMD is a democratic party where leaders must be chosen through elections for transparency and accountability” PLIZ TELL YO NEC TO APPLY THIS ON RB. otherwise u are fighting a losing battle and maybe just resign aswell

  2. #1, I totally agree with you. No one should also impose RB. Let him be elected fairly by the memders of the democratic party. Boot lickers whose jobs are at stake are the one lobbing for RB’s adoption. To h.e.l.l with them.

  3. # 1 very right man>>>>> RB should also subjected to elections at the MMD convetion. The caders in Mpulungu want democracy be applied even at the level of presidency. So let RB go to the convetion to face his rivals .

  4. All of you guys (numbers 1-3) don’t sound like MMD members. I am sure you agree with me. And you also know that in your party (PF) there have never been elections at any level since the party was formed in 2001 and there is no plan (at least that the country know) that these will be held in the foreseable future. But since then, the party has participated in 3 major elections and is now preparing for the 4th. Why are you not calling for election of officials including the President in your party? Why is the MMD situation so much your concern? By the way, I am sure you know that in PF, the President appoints Constituency and District Partty officvials from Farmers House in Lusaka. Of course you are so blinded for now but (as usual)

  5. Awe mu MMD mwena the culture of hand-picking started with FJT and it has since become a habit in this party. When the NEC can handpick and silence all those opposing them, what about at provincial level? They saw it from the NEC; from the very bootlickers (Tetachipuba and Mulongonyo).

  6. the two biggest personal to holder parties in zambia are sata’sPF and hakainde’s UPND.democracy in zambia is a mockery.and who thinks if one of these chaps was to ascend into power he can’t do a chiluba tactic of third term.

  7. If people at the grassroots can reject an imposed constituency chairman, why then should they accept an imposed president?

  8. Those commeniting on PF have no facts. The party is conducting elections at lower organs in preparation for natioan Elections. Don’t talk too much if you donot know anything
