  1. Nice pictures about Mazabuka whose Town Clerk or Mayor is aiming to make it become a city by 2015. I hope to participate fully in that development especially that I was educationally inducted at St. Edmunds’ High School then Secondar School.

As for the rest of the pic.s, they have a serious telling story about how the informal sector is not captured by GDP figures.

Have a blessed day you all.

    Psalm 16 + KJV Bible:
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

  2. The way that guy is bowing before RB is really interesting. Ninshi Muchinshi sana. i can see a ‘Yes Bwana’ in that man!

  3. Pic 11 ane 13 Lukalanya indeed. Who runs this filthy school ? some of these schools should be closed to allow the owners to work on them so that pupils can appreciate learning. That school is a toture to the pupils and I wonder what the PTA has been doing allowing their children to learn in such an environment.

  4. I miss the maize roast brand from Zambia. I used to hummer them on my way back from school. Such natural brands are not found here. Ba RB; you have made a lot of appointments with no progress in the economy of the country . Open your eyes and focus on the Development aspects … Resucisate the mines and not vi ma administrations…. I will be BACK soon…

  5. Ka bedi in Nalikwanda, looks more like a stretcher.! Improvements in Mazabuka but transport sector is pathetic.

  6. Yaba, the kitchen at the boarding school, i thought thse days are gone where we can see such a wooden kitchen, these days are long please GRZ, Can we do something about this school. Zambia is still very far in terms of development.

  7. Pic 11/12/13 Zambian children and youths in general are always so much kin to go to school and learn but the GRZ only cares about cadres. Its a shame honestly because we all know what potential lays in those kids

  8. Cry my beloved country, its so painful to see my people suffering, its so unfair. How much worse whould it get before somebody sees that thier leadership has failed sure.. Imagine if that was my young brother eating under that tree. I feel like crying, life is so unfair, those children did not choose the life they are leading.Lord please have mercy on Zambia, we are your children…..:(

  9. There is mixed feelings on the pictures. I feel for the school children who attend those dilapidated schools, when Kapoko is busy enjoying billions. If only the people can stop stealing things will improve. Otherwise nice pictures.

Picture 10. how does that woman wear a chitenge and slippers kuchinto.

  10. Pic# 12, Parents are trying their level best to make sure children get education. They build schools from cheapest materials around, but govt is no where to be seen.

  11. LT bloggers can be very useful, see pic #1

Pic #2 That roasted maize has got me salivating! 100 times more nutritious than the organic junk we get here.

Pics 11, 12, 13 Looks very different from the boarding life I know

All in all, these pictures seem to be telling us that nothing is getting better in terms of living standards back home. What are we doing about it?

  12. Pic 11, 12 & 13 awe sure naumfwa uluse mwe. What food programme is that where they dish out soup or porridge. My guess is majority of funds are going into the headmasters pocket. But who can blame him, he is also tired of the soup. Looks like LT was checking out tonga honies in mazabuka this week. I am told they know how to jig jig.

  13. #21 Red Lipstick that’s also a nice picture of the week on your Gravatar. I wonder why you’ve deprived us of beholding such beauty all this time?? Iwe life is too short, ka?

  14. Miss Daisy, why stand at a distance and lament the bad conditions in your country? It’s people like you who think they can develop their country yet run away to stay in another country. Come back and contribute to your own countries national develoment rather than just being arm chair critics in another man’s land!!!!

  15. #18.. you know what am saying, these conditions are not normal, its wrong….I was in CT, came back yesterday..the sea and mountains are awesome…Every child deserves to be happy and be able to visit such places…its terribly sad.. our leaders dont have hearts..

  16. chi computer chandi is not showing the gravatars atasse! Damn am missing out on seeing beauty. Red Lipstick, are you by anychance on facebook??

  17. #24.. i would love to come back home, infact i will come back but the govt does not support such initiatives, when a zambian tries to be an entreprenuer , they tax them so much like their aim is to make someone fail . we have to change some laws.. We have to start taxing the investors accordingly.. too many things are not in place .. BUT, that doesnt make me heartless, im still a citizen and i care, if i have to mourn and cry for my young ones left in those conditions.. then let me wail, its never in vain.. God sees!

  18. the 400Milion mid term gratuity that we are going to give our useless MPs can go a long way in erecting a decent kitchen for those poor pupils.

  19. 25 Miss Daisy greetings. Following your “… I was in CT, came back yesterday..the sea and mountains are awesome…Every child deserves to be happy and be able to visit such places…“, did you also visit Nyanga, Harare, Khayilitsha, the Cape Flats, etc.?

I know that Century City is nice including Muizenberg beach and the Table Mountain, but over-all was your visit to Cape Town whole to have a better picture of the living standard of people thare?

Have a blessed day and stick around instead of being in self-imposed exile.

    Psalm 16 + KJV Bible:
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

  20. #25 Daisy nice to learn you where this side. I wish I know somehow? I was home alon, off sick with terrible flu and my laptop no data bundles. For a night I thought I was going to die in my sleep alone. I hope you enjoyed yourself though. Its a bit cold and windy this side but I hear JHB is much colder. Have a great weekend

  21. #24 Elona… I don’t believe it is only by being in Zambia that one can contribute to the development of the country. I know of a friend who has helped so much back home after he left – both in terms of monetary contributions & intellectually. Before he left he could hardly afford the basics.

  22. I don’t understand why the politicians in Zambia massively exaggerate respect for the president. And yet RB is not even worth of respect. Ifyabupubafye, atase.

But this is a mentality of Africans. Even when LM was in Germany, the way Chituwo was on bowing terms, it was even embarrassing.

  23. Many of the pictures show the true position of how education infrastructures have been neglected even after 45 years of ‘Independence. It’s shameful and criminal. In the meantime the powers that be are busy enriching themselves corruptly and scrambling for positions and power. You would think the pictures were taken in Zimbabwe or Somalia.

#17, a lorry driver is trying to overtake 2 other lorries at the Munali hills, what madness. Fatal accidents in Zambia will only reduce with a bit of sanity and #20 is typical of cops bargaining for a ‘Scratch my back and I will scratch yours’.

  24. #24 Elonatona, I appreciate your views about individuals getting involved in developing our country but I must say under the prevailing circumstances it is almost impossible because of the attitude and quality of the leadership. How can you when a president is the first one to plunder the finances of the country and others stealing huge amounts in ministries. Development of any country will only succeed when you have dedicated and selfless leaders. As things are right now I can tell you Zambia will never develop.

  25. Very insightful pictures. The boarding school is a little alarming but if the pupils are happy, hey!

It’s fascinating how Zambia remains the same, year in and year out.

Love Zambia – my home, sweet home.

  26. 39 COME 2011 greetings. On your “You would think the pictures were taken in Zimbabwe or Somalia“, I diasgree about the pictures making someone think that they were taken in Zimbabwe because Zimbabwe does not only have better infrastructure than Zambia but many of its Citizens are educated compared to Zambians.

The literacy level of the 13 million Zimbabwean is about 90% while that of us 11.5 million Zambians is around 67%.

The percentages above indicate that we need to stop putting ourselves better than Zimbabweans and focus on improving our useless sysems which do not seem to follow the rule of laid down law.

    Be blest all.

    Psalm 16 + KJV Bible:
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

  27. #33.. Hi Maestro, We did drive past the flats and the Nyanga….people there are poor and it also made me sad as they are just like our children in Zambia, its not fair…though they have better schoold so atleast they have an opportunity thats why they have higher chances of a better life later in life.. But we cant properly educate our children not considering thier future.. it means they might drop out of school and without proper education, they will continue to suffer.. I know a few people make it even without education but what are the ratios… Thats why am saddened…. Its very unfair!

  28. # 11Rupiadinho,

FORMER Ministry of Health Human resources manager Henry Kapoko has been granted bail of K800 million by the Lusaka Margistrate’s court. Ruling on the bail application this morning, Lusaka magistrate Exonorbit Zulu granted Kapoko bail on condition that he deposits immovable assets of not less than K800 million.

  29. Pic # 12 Has spoiled my day.I feel sorry for these pupils, from today I will never allow my niece or nephew to throw food.In fact I have to show them this photo.

    Otherwise how is everyone here?

  30. is that what we call a boarding school in zambia? pathetic… and the LT blogger took a better picture than any that has been taken by LT staff.

  31. #36….Its a shame. i would have come to nurse u had i known… I was stuck in a house with our big cheese(boss) and colleagues… behaving all professional… How you now?

  32. The terrible pics of education in Zambia, pic 11 and 12, are telling about what is happening but Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe argued about his ignorance of such in Mapanza area about a fortnight ago.

One wonders whether he is partially blind and deaf for him to have castigated the Headteacher of that school where donors provided b o r e h o l e s. All these pictures show that it is time for the MMD GRZ to let others with better plans to rule GRZ now by massive resigning.

    Be blest all.

  33. 44 Miss Daisy, I am glad you passed by the locations in South Africa following your “We did drive past the flats and the Nyanga….people there are poor and it also made me sad as they are just like our children in Zambia, its not fair…though they have better schoold so atleast they have an opportunity thats why they have higher chances of a better life later in life..“.

However, I would like to diagree that those Nyanga and other locations children are better schooled than our Zambian counterparts. Did you check the water situation in those areas? My fellow Citizen, I wish you entered on house in that location if you didn’t.

    Be blest.

    Psalm 16 + KJV Bible:
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

  34. I’ve always been suprised by the delusion that some Zambians have about the state of Zambia’s development or progress. Let it be known that we are the ‘wretched of the earth’. We are amongst the poorest of the poor. Statiscally we are the 13th poorest country in the world. As stated in the last Human Development Index we are number 165 out of 177 nations i.e number 13 from the bottom. We have a long way to go. And this has not been helped by our poverty of leadership and ideas. I have never seen country in which its citizens dont give a damn about being surrounded with dirty. Dear countrymen no one is going to change Zambia but Zambians. Clean up your cities and neighbourhoods. Poverty does not equal dirtness unless you choose it to be so. Be proud of yourselves!

  35. #51… Maestro whats your point.. It doesnt mean because yes some people suffer here then its alright for our children to suffer. Yes thier conditions maybe bad aswell but …for some reason, most of them at better off than our children, they have apportunites to change thier conditions by going to schools…..

  36. 52 Mbulawagreetings and you are right on all points especially “As stated in the last Human Development Index we are number 165 out of 177 nations i.e number 13 from the bottom. We have a long way to go.” Nevertheless, the only problem is that we educated Zambians let MMD overstay in power even when we knew they are doing nothing and are incapable of bringing meaningful development to Zambia due to their dependence on outsider investors to bring jobs to our country.

Zambia can only develop if we have right laws protecting our people and the tax regime becomes tailored to favour local investors who should have sensible SMEs with working the informal sector.

Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

  37. 53 Miss Daisy, on your “#51… Maestro whats your point“, my point is that let us not overrate the South Africans and Cape Town, but just appreciate that they are trying to make amends while we are struggling from bad to worse under the MMD simply because the MMD GRZ is not pro-Zambians’ well-being but for fattening the Constitutional office bearers’ pockets.

I am writing this because I have travelled nicely across Zambia except for Luapula, Northern, Northwestern and Eastern Provinces and have a nice picture about home backed by an exposure of Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa in Africa. If there is a better nation in our SADC thus far, Zimbabwe would be it.

  39. Following my I am writing this because I have travelled nicely across Zambia except for Luapula, Northern, Northwestern and Eastern Provinces and have a nice picture about home backed by an exposure of Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa in Africa. I am scheduled to be in Eastern Province, Northwestrn and Luapula Provinces by the end of this year visiting my cousin, best friend from Primary School till now, good friend from St. Edmunds’ Secondary School through UNZA respectively.

As for Northern Province, there is no immediate plans as I do not have a stable friend or relation I know living there but I hope to be there soon too.

Thus, visit and take lots of pictures.

  40. Very good pictures. Make you miss home.
Good to see pictures from areas outside Lusaka.

Bloggers lets donate some money for that poor school. Can buy them some beds.

  41. Pictures are very depressing indeed!Wonder why we even vote for some of these leaders. And Maestro your HH can have your undevided loyalty but I give him a zero. There is no way I can vote for anyone who amasses so much wealth for himself but cannot even donate mattresses to a secondary school like the one above. Is there no PTA or something like that in that school? Such poverty can only be tolerated in a war torn place like Somali.

  42. Maestro it is not the educated MMD people who will eradicat poverty in Zambia it is educating every Zambian child.Consider the MOH scandal. All educated people including doctors and cosultants but all possessed with greed.Even your HH cannot even donate matresses to that ‘school’.To be honest I am not moved by this text book graduates who cannot make any change in the field of study or expertise. What has moved me greatly is seeing such poverty, the kind you only see in war torn Somali.

  43. 64 Hola! greetings. I have noticed a serious problem in your “Maestro it is not the educated MMD people who will eradicat poverty in Zambia it is educating every Zambian child” and so where did I write that the educated MMD will eradicate poverty from Zambia?

As for “Even your HH cannot even donate matresses to that ’school’“, do I own president HH who is fit to be my father instead? Also, avoid showing ignorance as president HH is doing his best to donate where he can as he did by providing toilets in Livingstone in order to have a closed Market re-opened for traders to do business.

  45. Instead of highlighting issues such as the deplorable conditions in the school in W. Province a opposition bafuna chabe kukhala president. Tiuzeni mwamene imwe muza chinja makhalidwe a antu muno mu Zambia. If this so called pact is genuine, howcome nikalibe kuwonako ma picture where a HH na Sata ali pa modzi?

  46. 64 Hola!, in your “To be honest I am not moved by this text book graduates who cannot make any change in the field of study or expertise” which textbook graduates are you referring to?
In case you are trying to undermine president HH, check out how hard working the brother is and you will know why his money is increasing rapidly amidst political pressure from the MMD GRZ who ended up bringing in RP … to valuate ZAMTEL’s worth.

Please, think before you write nonsense. I need good points to make arguments on instead of petty accusations as if you are a kid who can’t reason before thinking that a 29 year old can own a 47 year old person.

  47. The week in pictures and the weekend in pictures really make my day. I always look forward to these. They remind me that I should never be in a hurry to return home because the more things change the more they remain the same… probably even worse. I am not persuaded that my going back cna change this miserable state.

  49. Pic # 11 Lord have mercy thats so wrong something just have to be done, you don’t know how much these little pipo love to go to school but looking at this picture awe sure.

  50. I thought Lusaka Times by virtual of its name should focus reporting on issues in and around Lusaka Province. I suggest a name change to Zambia Times or so if the objective is to reporting nationally.

  51. #73 thats quite a dumb suggestion some of us want to see what happens in other parts of Zambia.Lusaka is full of crooks and political circus clowns, who wants to see that day in day out? Anyway pic 11 is really disturbing. Can those of you bloggers who went to that school please send in some mattresses no use waiting for govt(they are too busy messing things up).I visited my old school in the copperbelt and hope to make a contribution soon.

  52. pic 12 grieves the heart, cant stand it,why should life be a probable chance,
So sick than the sickness, sick of politics, sick of my people wishing for better days to come to blessing,Lord testing us in many ways,Lord help us.

  53. Iyoo mwandi… paisa utusabula pa LT..

Lovely pics and some nostalgic ones too.

Pic# 2 nafuluka amataba ayakocha pa mbaula mweee….

Pic #11 12, 13, thats the real poverty and the real Zambia.. Its sad that people still live like that when others throw in recycling bins.. if only I could be allowed to carry more than 20 kg of luggage I would make a very big difference in so many peoples lives.(Iam just being honest)

  54. Ba Miss Daisy muli shani? by the way you are x- LYA? Iam also x-LYA. Lived in Eucalyptus Avenue for more than 12 years. Still miss that town… so many memories…

  55. Maestro being very tribal again are we? With this I mark my return my brother. As far as zambia is concerned I an afraid HH will never be president, it is plain and simple. Zambians in too large of numbers view the PF and UPND as tribal entities. As for HH he might have earned his money genuinely, but Mazoka belonged to some very shady organisation. Plus I told you I have first hand information on the aforementioned before. The pictures leave me with optimism on the fact that the children still look eager to progress, but if you also might have missed it did you see pic. 17, the truck has a flagger trailing it that is a good change in Zambia.

  56. Like one blogger has suggested, we are the ones to change our nation and communities. I went to collect some passports from the embassy in London today, I browsed through a few brochures and leaflets about various orphanages and projects in zambia, I have been deeply moved at the plight of those beautfil orphaned children particularly a picture of a disabled child using a make shift wooden zimmer frame. I have three pairs of crutches I used after an operation which i will donate immediatley. I have a lump inmy throught at the pictures on Lt today, God make me chanel of blessings to others. while i am alive i will do my best to help these people. i will take a posiitve stance to help instead of waiting for GRZ to do anything.

  57. I think LT should get the pictures that trully reflects the area of interest, I dont think those kids sitting down in a room are at a basic school in Kasama. They look more like the so called street kids. grouped in an abandoned room. I know the basic schools are trying hard but not that one. Nakana sana

  58. I was moved when i saw the pictures of those impoverished pupils. Those pictures gave me goose pimples.Oh Lord help us!

  59. I wonder how the likes of Kapoko and others feel(i.e if they have a conscious ) about those moving pictures. To steal so much wealth and service several women using donors money while people are giving birth on the street…or dying for lack of BASIC medical care.

  60. These pictures are telling a sad story. CB did everything to produce copper for national dev. Now North western is taking over from CB to provide for the whole nation. What is all other provinces doing? Just good at talking, and being tribal? some of these provinces can produce nothing but blind people, playing banjos in the streets. It will take the whole nation to work and produce not just one province at a time.

  61. Amataba oh i miss roasted maize next time i will travel nkalya sana amataba till tukapusane na mr stomach

  62. Hee..nice schools. Really the economy has improved now childen can eat at schools. Keep it up RB , shikapwashs, Mulongoti and Teta.

  63. Kambongolo you are the only one who has impressed me. Nice schools, children able to have meals at school. What else do Zambians want? The kitchen to me looks great. Inongo is just icing on the cake. I like the hoodie in picture #4. Very nice. #11 is jjust a good example of how life should be simplified. Why complicate it with king size beds when all one needs is anything to lie on? NIce pictures ba LT I love Zambia.

  64. I DON’T KNOW WHY POLITICAL LEADERS PAY THEMSELVES GRATUITY WHEN THAT MONEY CAN BE USED TO IMPROVE OUR SCHOOLS. IF YOU LOOK AT PICTURES #11 AND 13-THE BED AND KITCHEN LEAVE MUCH WONDER AT WHAT IS GOING ON IN ZAMBIA’S LEADERSHIP. BY THE WAY GRATUITY FOR DOING WHAT?

  65. #29 Ms Daisy, well said. Most Zambians would like to set up serious businesses in Zambia. But, its the punishment they get from gvt (while foreigner investors have it easy) when trying to start up something that scares all. The gvt and the pipo of Zambia must understand that foreign investors are not interested in the development of Zambia but Zambians themselves. If you are in doubt just try and invite your friend to help you make a baby by sleeping with your partner for a few nights.

  66. #92. You are very right. Politicians just see the colour of a white person and sees investment in him. Much as we would want to go back home but what you have said scares us. Even getting a plot is such a difficult thing if you are Zambia but so easy to foreigners.

  67. #39. You wrong to refer to Zimbabwe because even in the midst of their economic down time Zimbabwe was by far better than Zambia. Mind you Zimbabwe towns are well structured and clean. Just wait and see-Zimbabwe is back on track. And I pray to God that they pickup quickly while the sleeping dogs-Zambians, lie.

  68. #95. Very true. Even Zimbabweans outside Zimbabwe will be encouraged to go back a thing that can never happen in Zambia. They are just interested in foreigners who are just reaping off the country.

  69. #47 Matworld. If your flag represents the country of your permanent address you are so near Zambia but your tune is like you don’t visit home (ie if your home is Zambia), to be so ignorant about the extent of poverty in Zambia. Zambia has ever been poor-even b4 you left. It’s just that we work hard towards getting more poorer.

  70. Pix 11, that is a junior hostel
Pix 12, those are grade 8s reporting for team one at the school having lunch.Nice meal with soya bean porridge
GRZ should look onto these issues

  71. Pix 1, the driver was too tired he drove for overnight and had a girl on the back, luckly no one died.God bless you boys and a girl

  72. #52 Mbulawa. Thanks for your educative contribution. I have also been wondering how illusioned Zambians have been about the development in Zambia. Zambians think their country is in many areas better than others. But its not surprising if one recalls the KK days. The KK gvt had a way of keeping Zambians in Zambia. The only Zambian who travelled was a politician, and a scholar. If you were heard to be in possession of a dollar, anti-corruption, police, drug enforcement, Kamuchekas, etc will be at your home like you have killed another human being. So, Zambians have remained so ignorant about the outside world.

  73. cont. Just read the comment on #51. This chap, maybe lives overseas. But, he still has that backward mentality. Because, when they say there’s poverty in the UK, please as Zambians don’t get excited that they also face same/similar problems. The standards are by far different. Poverty here would mean luxury in Zambia. While poverty in Zambia may mean a dead system of gvt here. There4 poverty in SA or Botswana may not be in Zambia. Just compare the physical appearance of children in Zambia, and SA and Botswana. Children of Zambian look very poverty-stricken.

  74. According to all the photos, It is hard to say Zam is developing. It is making a down turn. Cadres crossing the market’s gates.. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE ROLE OF THE CADRES IN ZAM SOCIETY???

  75. Dudes, dudettes, Daisy, how art thou? Behold, i present to u Zed, in all its depressing glory. Please, as u lament about the kids in these pathetic schools who really are kinda lucky to even have a sample of education, think also about the youngsters used by blind parents to acost people for buck in the streets. it is flippin heart wrenching wen u think bout the opportunities u had as a child and then sidestep these kids who sit in the blazing sun the whole day begging and not going to school and not havin decent meals and most probably been sexually abused in the nite and then u think about Teta and pineapple face (RB) who do not even have the decency to pay even lip service to all this s.h.!.t!

  76. #60, JUSTICE KAFUSHA, “Ba LT Pic#7 ati a labourer, tamwaleka na nomba he is a worker.” In fact he’s not even merely a worker. I am pretty sure he’s a Technician or Machine Operator.

This is due to lack of appreciation and pride in our pre-occupations, in Zambia. It does not matter what one/you do. Even if one is a cleaner, he must be appreciated and he must himself appreciate and be proud of what he/she does. Every job is important in this world.

  77. Of course that a-hole ‘assuming the position’ in pic 3 is going to be a ‘Yes bwana’ are u kiddin? askin RB to appoint sum one with integrity and an independent mind is like askin the Honduran President to quit with his ‘Am comin Back Home whether u want me or not!’ missions.

  78. 97.Peter .

How are you today? I have been here for four years now,and i do visit my beloved mum very year, infact come Decenber Iam going to help her at the farm.I know that Poverty is there in our beloved country, but to be honest with you,I never thought that it can be this serious like Pic# 12.

  79. #107 Matworld, am fine. Thanks. Its nice to hear that you visit our beloved country on a regular basis. I also do but instead of staying in big cities I go to the villages where my parents originate. Along the way I witness serious poverty. Maybe villagers are even better off. Our ghettos around big cities are even worse. Families just can’t afford food and its not uncommon for a household to go without food for a few days.

  80. #91 Peter
People harp on and on about this gratuity issue. Why didn’t they oppose it when the parliament passed it into law? Put yourself in this position. Suppose right now as an employee you are contracted a certain amount as your final pension, say in 20 years time. Come 20 years for you to retire the world is plunged into a serious financial crisis, would you agree to forego what is legally yours? I have lived very close to some politicians of all political persuasions, and I have seen endless visits to their homes by cadres trying to get money for this and that from them. ‘Iyo mkwayi, umwana nalwala… Natukwato ubwafya… Tithandizeniko na ka 50 pini…’ To be an MP in a poor country is not easy. I felt sorry for these guys.

  81. #108 Peter
“Along the way I witness serious poverty.” Perhaps having lived in the west, your definition of poverty has changed. I know that most of our people do not have ‘creature comforts’ but I would not call them poor. Poverty for an able bodied human being is a choice. The Greeks had two different words which are translated ‘poor’ in English. Jesus said, ‘the poor will always be with you.’ This is ‘ptochos.’ It represents ‘a beggar.’ Someone who by reason of infirmity, age or orphaned has no means of livelihood. Such are to be pitied at all times and helped by all means. But there is another word ‘pene’ which simply refers to toiling for daily subsistence, i.e. not earning a lot from your work. These may be poor but they are not charity cases. They have potential to…

  82. Cont’d from 110
…they have potential to earn more. We seem to confound these two different states of affairs when we talk about poverty. Who is poor? A man who owns 10 acres of land and lives in a grass thached mud and stick walled rondadavel, owns a few free range chickens, organic goats and pigs that fend for themselves, drinks water from an unprotected 6 foot deep well and has no bathroom logistics in place. Then go across to the cities and you have a man living in Kalingalinga; there is an outside pit latrine, illegally connected electricity to his house powering 3 light bulbs, charging a mobile phone and a television set. The house is made of scrounged brick, cement blocks and zinc roofing sheets of varying ages, held down by stones. He has a meal or two every day…

  83. contd..
and his main source of income is casual labour every day. He goes out to be hired every day and sometimes when he is unlucky, no job. When lucky, a good job offer turns up and he could earn quiet a lot, enough to spend in loose living and good clothes (though second hand). Now who, among these is poor? I would submit that none of them are.

  84. 78 mwanawakwitu greetings. Your self exposure sickness that you have exhibited in your “Maestro being very tribal again are we? With this I mark my return my brother.” is not only evil but worrying as it lacks proof.

Apart from that the rest of your opinion in that posting are just useless as you are not the only voter for a would be Zambian President. And so, I will wait for God’ will.

Have a good day and be blest all.

Until the next time, have a good day and be blessed.

Beware of some evil-driven sick and wicked impersonator using my blogname with a Nigerian flag and sometimes a USA one. I believe his is ba Dr Maureen who has been a terrible loser in debating.

  89. the pictures are truly sad. we need to change those images of poverty. things are not well, those schools, honestly, can we say that is a school? the traffic accidents continue like there is no regulator, RTSA whatsup with initiative to educate transporters and drivers whatabout penalties and not investigations? overloading? waba… am saddened … we need to fix this.

  91. It is realy sad to note the state of schools in rural areas. it looks like a prison or a concetration camp. what a shame! i wish icould contribute to the welfare of my people. This should be free education

  93. # 3, it is actually a compulsory to bow for the republican president when one is presenting his credentials or being sworn in. Protocol demands that.

  94. #118,120 and others need to be pragmatic about these schools.Yes the conditions are bad but you all forget about how some kids in usa,uk and others are really not learning despite being in well built schools with free meals, water, transportation and other amenities. It is the effectiveness of the learning programmes and hunger for knowledge that matters most.On the other hand it is sad that GRZ could find money to build the beautiful zed embassy i saw in nairobi and let rot reign in its schools.
