Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata has accused President Rupiah Banda of having no respect for traditional rulers in the country.
Mr. Sata has said the MMD under Mr. Banda has failed to improve on the social infrastructure left by former UNIP government.
Addressing two separate rallies at Chitambo hospital grounds and another at Fisonge basic school grounds yesterday, Mr. Sata said in 1991, government gave back the respect chiefs deserved and stopped them from engaging into active politics.
He said it was sad that chiefs were now called to meet president Rupiah Banda at any place instead of the president paying courtesy call on them at their respective palaces.
He said UNIP under Dr. Kaunda built a lot of schools, roads and hospitals which the MMD were failing to improve on adding that government had even failed to make a road that would join Mpelembe from Chitambo hospital.
“There should have been a road by now joining Tuta road from here (Chitambo) but government has failed forcing people to still to go via mukando, a long way,” he said.
He said schools did not have adequate staffing while many trained teachers were still roaming the streets adding that government allegedly refused to increase workers salaries while the first lady Thandiwe was getting salaries when she was not working.
Mr. Sata urged the people of Chitambo to vote for PF candidate Chanda Mutale who he said was there own man and not to vote for MMD candidate Solomon Musonda because he was alleged to be a Zimbabwean.
“Vote for this young man, your son. Both Musonda and Rupiah Banda come from Zimbabwe so do not vote for Musonda, ” said as he introduced Mutale to the crowd.
Mr. Sata told Mutale to remain humble to the people saying people of Serenje did not want money from him but wanted leadership and somebody who could speak fo them.
He told him to ensure chief Muchinka’s palace was electrified and also ensure a road joining Serenje/Mansa road from Chitambo was made.
And speaking earlier, PF national chairperson, Samuel Mukupa wondered why people in rural areas continued to vote fo MMD when those in towns rejected.
He said it surprised him to find that people who were allegedly not cared for by the MMD government voted for them.
And Lusaka province chairperson, Paul Moonga, told the audience at Chitambo and Fisonge that the MMD had no love for them because even the late Nasim Hamir and the MMD candidate were not Zambians.
Mr. Moonga who praised people of Chitambo constituency for their hard work and construction of good looking houses said he however was disappointed that government had failed to help the people uplift their living standards.
He said while they were hard workers, they lacked support in terms of inputs from government thereby forcing them to face hunger all the times.
Mr. Moonga charged that MMD government respected animals more than people at Chipyapya where he alleged that people were being chased to leave land for animals.
The Patriotic Front (PF) team was in the constituency to drum up support for Chanda Mutale who is one of the four candidates vying for Chitambo parliamentary seat that fell vacant after the death of MMD Member of Parliament Nasim Hamir last May.

The president dished out brown envelopes to chiefs in Serenje each containg K1million and they were not impressed because they expected more. Was that meant to be some bribes to win the reelection? You can imagine what it will be like in the 2011 elections.
When will bickering politics ever end in Zambia? Sata & HH, stop playing to the tune of the MMD. That’s what RB & his entourage, Mulongoti, Teta, Ronnie & company want. You need to start selling you alliance to the Zambian masses. Go to convention to cement your pact as a true representation of those that belong to you parties. If you need a political advisor hire one now. This passing of blame is not going to win you votes. Go to convention so that you have ample time to sell you part in all corners of the country. Do it now so that you can start campaign money. As a Zambian in the diaspora, I want to help a formidable opposition with raising campaign monies so I hope PF/UNPD followers get this message.
#4, Sata may probably have made a good president 15 years ago. But now, this generation does not need leaders like him or Rupiah Banda. The country needs you and I (35 -55) as this is our generation and every generation has its own challenges which Sata or RB does not fully appreciate. I would therefore implore you to look at quality leaders in that age group and elimnate anyone above that age regardless of party affiliation or their association with you. That means assess Prof. Chirwa or HH and decide. For Sata ‘nako ifelile’ meaning for Sata time is gone. Amusiyale for no malozi.

The only reason why people in the rural areas support MMD is because they do not understand what goes on. If the opposition are serious about winning them to thier side, they need to spend more time in those areas and evangelise the reason why MMD must go. Those people dont listen to the news, they dont have internet nor buy papers. They probably dont even know about Kapoko nor the other scandals. You can not miss what you never had, they dont even think there is anything wrong with thier area because they have never had it better…Sata or any other opposition must not just make dry promises. they must put thier money where their word is.. #22 Hammer, Opposition does not only mean arguing anyhow. Anyone who has no realistic chance of forming govt cannot be a good opposition because they only disrupt progress. I am slowly putting Sata in this category unless he partners up with progressive minds with real prospects to lead. That is my view but I still can’t see that bite in the PF/UPND pact unless they find a leader who is an alternative to both Sata and Hakainde. Say what you may but Sata delivered results what ever he touched. And those that worked with him speak highly of his get it done abilities. I dont care about rhetoric, looks or what school one went to. If he can deliver badly needed infrastructure, drive growth and the doubling of our production numbers(Agric, Agribusiness, Secondary mineral processing + education), all within free market competitive principles, but ensure a fair share of economic benefits accrue to Zambians (10% increase in formal employment indices, 5% reduction in inflation both consumer + Industrial, 30% eduction in illiteracy+ 10yr increase in lifeexpectancy at birth. I really wonder why people have not come to accept that SATA who was born under the tree has that political brain which no person in the present political arena has. Kalale I dont know any Zambian who does not have a village. You have to say your village to get an NRC card. I dont live in a village but am not the kind of person who would look down on somebody who does or who does not speak english. After all we are all humans. Villagers have their own interests just like you and me. If they feel that MMD will fulfil their interests then they have every right to vote for them. If you disagree then that is your own indaba. For your information, I am not MMD but dont support Sata because I feel that he is not the right person to rule Zambia. That is my opinion but should the majority of Zambians vote for him to be president then I will accept that because I understand the tenets of democracy.

There seems to be a contradiction here – people are quick to say that villagers are ignorant and illiterate so they dont know how to vote and yet they support somebody like Sata who is not educated and displays his ignorance on a daily basis. #17 Kachonga Wabantu, the above is untrue. Sata has practically shown great performance whichever ministry he has manned. Ask the nurses and doctor. Lusaka residents can also tell you that when he was governor the town changed. Sata is work and results oriented man. Of course lazy people don’t like him.
Besides, Michael Sata wants to trully do something for Zambia and I believe him because if he can do a lot as a minister and governor, then when he has full control as apresident he would demand that every minister sweats for what he/she’s paid for.

I can assure you he makes people work, he make things move, he wants to see you really working, and he wants to see the results of what you have been doing. The other plus for Mr Sata is that he’s not that educated but he loves surrounding himself with highly educated men and women so that he could use them to produce intended results. It’s un common with many people. Many people are not comfortable with challenge. But, Sata is and looks forward to that intellectual and professional challenge. If you are in doubt just look at RB’s cabinet. If you are still not convinced, look back at KK’s cabinets. When MMD came in they had a lot of highly educated men and women. Levy started flashing them out. RB, has completely flashed them out due to fear of challenge.
#66 Peter, I think you do not understand management hierarchies at all. At governonr level, Sata could have been likened to a line Manager. At Ministerial, you have a functional manager where a function is a Ministry. At the presidential level, you are the chief executive officer and deal mainly with strategic decisions. You need to understand the thinking in each functional ministry well enough to be able to digest what opportunties could help move the nation forward. Above all, you need to have your vision on how things should be done and how you want the nation to develop – so what attributes do you need? An analytical mind, good listener, comminucator, delegator, people touch and some very good degree of wisdom – and all these require intelligency and sufficient education.
Continued from #70 – Chiluba failed because he lacked vision, wisdom, was not a good listener but a manipulator, very poor at delegating genuinely, created mistrust among people and lacked sufficient education to deeply understand systems. Even up to now, I can tell you that Chiluba does not fully understand Zambia’s real development backbone – he was a panta panta president full of lies. The man is a liar and can lie at any level. Can you imagine a guy telling lies to a person like Mandela ( a very principled man) and hope the world can give him respect – he must forget or die early may be he will be buried sympathetically.

One piece of advice to SATA and RUPIAH – Please do not apply for a job you know you can’t do. You will only embarass yourself. Learn from other people’s mistakes and judge yourself. Chiluba knew he could not make a President but applied for it and we carelessly gave it to him. Did you see the results – Chiluba is now disgraced person. Rupiah applied for the Presidency and we gave it to him. Can you see what is happening – he is busy galivanting as if there is no work waiting for him. Sata too could be making a mistake if he applied for that job again because he will also embarass himself. KK was a real President and he used to tell you – this seat is hot, no jokes about it. Did we listen? If only we had, some of our colleagues would still be alive today!!!
#69 PETER … you are very right. Sata is a leader as #70 has given the qualities of a leader. All these qualities are in Sata thats why he was able to perform in all Ministries. The man has special polical-leadership qualities which are lacking in the educated people like Sondashi, Nawakwi etc. If really Sata was nothing in the political arena, he would been coming last and villagers would have been his mates. #47 Kambongolo, some (few of course) people hate SATA and you don’t need to go far to know why. The man is not formerly educated but only informally educated. Despite that SATA is endowed with abundant wisdom and intellect-whether one likes it or not. Despite his lack of formal education SATA has exceedingly, many pluses. He’s a performer. Few people (if any), can break away from the main party as strong as MMD, form up their party and even be second strongest opposition. Few men/women can be uneducated but still command such respect from highly educated men and women like SATA.
#75 Peter, Being a party organiser is not synonymous with being a President. Anyone can mobilise our jobless masses and promise them heaven on earth and they will follow. That is the easiest part. Jacob Zuma is one such good example. We are yet to see if he can deliver what he promised when he wanted to be elected. Running a country requires that you understand systems, their constraints, perceive opportunities and exploit them. Analyse issues and respond to them, line up your priorities and make sure the whole game is not derailed by uncalled for emergencies. SATA has also experienced life abroad (unofficial) in the UK for an appreciable length of time, people say. Therefore, he understands the meaning of hardwork and high standards. A few people I have spoken to say Sata earned his money through sweeping the streets of London during the time he used to live in London. To me and many people this is a big plus as compared to someone who attained his 1st, 2nd, and PhD in Zambia without any outside life’s experience. Travel is the best teacher, (or, umwana ashenda atasha nyino kunaya).

Reading the mood of the people correctly is a virtue in leadership. If Sata observed correctly, 2001 was an election year for UPND – Mazoka had the game plan slashed out very nicely. Chiluba the crook was told about this. The FDD guys misread the mood and Sata too misread the mood. A direct contest between Mazoka and Mwanawasa that year would have guranteed landslide victory for Mazoka. But the inclusion of the many spoilers some of whom were even funded by Chiluba spoilt the game for UPND – very annoying feat. But as peace loving Zambians we all later accepted LPM and he tried his best BUT that illegitimacy still haunted him so much that it actaually slowed his performance.
