George Kunda promises cell phone connectivity to Chitambo electorates

Share

Vice President George Kunda says government will ensure that rural areas are given top priority to cell phone connectivity access
.
Mr Kunda says it is for this reason that government has provided under the Communications Authority , K 59 billion for cell phone connectivity in all parts of the country.

Mr. Kunda says government was working hard to ensure that the whole country including Chitambo district had cell phone connectivity.

He said this during a campaign for the forthcoming Chitambo parliamentary by-election. The campaigns took place in Chipundu, Chalilo and Mpelembe of Serenje district.

Mr. Kunda assured the people of Chitambo constituency that government would facilitate the existence of all three cell phone networks to the area.

He said the people of Serenje district and other rural parts of the country needed to be connected to their relatives.[quote]

Mr. Kunda also challenged the PF/UPND pact to show the people of Zambia land which they alleged he ( the Vice President ) sold to Chinese investors.

He said the pact should identify which Chinese investor he sold the land to.

MR. Kunda also urged the people of chitambo district to vote for a leader that would be able to articulate developmental issues in parliament.

He said MMD candidate for Chitambo constituency Dr. Solomon Musonda was thus the right man that would foster development in the area.

And Communications Minister Prof. Geoffrey Lungwangwa said that government was in the process of constructing several high schools in the district.

Prof. Lungwangwa said government spent 170 billion kwacha on the construction of the schools.

He also said government has set aside 535 million kwacha for the construction of teachers houses and VIP latrines for teachers and pupils.

Meanwhile MMD Candidate for Chitambo Constituency Solomon Musonda said Chitambo constituency needs to be represented in Parliament by someone who understood the area well.

Dr. Musonda also said the MMD was the only party that would bring about development to Chitambo.
He has since called upon the people of Chitambo to vote for him.

The Chitambo parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the area Member of Parliament Nasim-ul-Gani Hamir.
The date for the chitambo parliamentary by elections has been set for August 13, 2009.

  1. George, which mobile service operator is dense enough to take their services to rural areas? Cell Z? Maybe. But wait a minute, you are busy selling that outfit aren’t you?

  2. Yaba these MMD-thieves think villagers are so d.u.l.l as to always live on promises for 20 years now. Promises upon promises whenever there are elections. After elections the villagers are thrown into the rubbish- bin. Iyee , you MMD-thieves know that villagers have become wise now. They are tired of your promises and you must be ashamed guys? Which cell phone provider will go to Chitambo where there is no money? If you have not given Cell Z to them, when are you going to connect coz you have sold CellZ?? Ba mambala kwateni amano. REVOLUTION 2011.

  3. its was this kunda ka? he is sayed ama cellofons in villege? is billion talking abot gona give mtn, cz or zenya? coz zamtel sold! what tink bloger. she lying ka!

  4. Ubu nomba ebupuba. Why should campaigns be on promises only. How come they don’t discuss what they have done? It seems they do absolutely nothing until campaign time kicks in. I really don’t mean to insult these people, but I should say ifipuba are those who buy into these silly promises. Does one really need a cell phone on an empty stomach? Why not give them a hospital or a rural health center? How about just doing it without promising? I think they will be provided with Phonies instead of Cell Phones.

  5. Is there any Govt in Lsk? It seems that the whole cabinate is in Chitambo making empty promises. Can you chaps please go back to Lusaka and do some work, lazy liars! We have a VP talking about cell phone network, a Comms Minister talking about education… they are completely confused! Can someone please tell me what a VIP latrine is??! Also, Dr.Musonda??? What did the chap get his doctrate in? The same question applys for Prof. Lungwangwa? I think these chaps are Prof. and Dr via cheap correspondence courses only. Lazy, usless, liars!

  6. Ba Kunda mwalanda mwapwa! kabili cell phone kuti walya waikuta in your dimmed thinking, who wants to carry a cellphone on an empty stomach, somebody please save us from these unfeeling………

  7. Is Kunda really, a legal chap? A few years ago my next-door neighbours (a coulpe-man and woman) were a barrister and solicitor, respectively. On top of them having being very excellent neighbour, they exhibited intellegentia and wisdom even on the social level of discussion. But, comparing our Kunda and this couple leaves me with a lot to wonder about our legal man. With all his senses in the right place, how can Kunda goes to those poor and poverty-stricken villagers to promise them of mobile 4nes, instead of food? What are they going to use it for, and how are they going to be topping up their 4nes? Just coz SATA Kunda is not proud of where he hails from to let the place so unconnected to other places by way of roads does not mean he should promise them what they don’t even need.

  8. welishiluwe can you give the people healthcare or even clean water not cell network. but again zambians are amazing if asked you would be shocked to hear that they would rather talk on Nokia than have a water pump. no wonder there is no devlopment pa zed the whole lot of GK to promise cell network. what a shame.

  9. cntd frm #9. The people of Chitambo needed a road to connect them to any trckle of civilization seeming to happen in Zambia. They need a hospital since they are an island within land. Other bloggers have already mentioned. Ye! by the way which investor is going to plant costly tranceivers in a place which doen’t promise increased profits. Thats why we are saying don’t sell (at least not 75% of the shares) Zamtel to another country. It can be used to fill up those grey areas left by mainly, profit-oriented foreign investors, in order to balance Zambia, infrastructure-wise.

  10. MMD lacks priorities. Cellphone network is not a necessity but good health care, good schools, food etc. Cellphones will just drain the villagers of even the little they have.

  11. #10, Supergirl you made me laugh…hahhhhgahhha!! ati ‘welishiluwe’ long time I heard that mouthful…

  12. Kunda is learning how to tell lies from RB. These promises are meant to deceive and sway people from making wise chooses which later on defranchises the people.

  13. Iwe Kunda bushe walilwala ingulu? Your strategy is appalling, why do you want to blackmail people in chitambo with cell phones?Promises…..promises…..always promises ” A barking dog never bites!”

  14. Personally I dont understand this because Kunda was supposed to go before RB. Its like protoco has gone to the dogs

  15. Ala pa Zed ni comedy. i wouldnt be surprised if pipo chose cell fones over real development. Acell phone is supposed to be a spin off of development yet pa Zed its the other way round

  16. Let Kunada concetrate on real issues. The mobile phone service providers do not just go into any rural area they assess the ecenomic viability of the area. What he is forgeting is that not all rural places are connected to electric power. The gen set will be run on diesel and its expensive. Pipo of Chitambo that is mere politiking. Its up to you there to make your own decision when casting your votes. Its the duty of GRZ to provide education in every corner of the country whether it is under ruling party or opposition.

  17. Zain and MTN are privately owned, so how is he going to deliver on this promise? It is true Politicians are thick indeed.

  18. ITS SADDENING TO NOTE THAT THESE PEOPLE OF CHITAMBO WILL ACTUALLY VOTE FOR THIS MMD NEGROE BASED ON THE LIES THAT KUNDA TOLD THEM. PLEASE WAKE UP VILLAGERS, WHY HAVEN’T THEY DONE THAT ALREADY (CELL PHONE CONNECTIVITY)?

    ITS SO SICKENING!!

  19. Ba LV balimba kale! Chalitushalila fwebene ukusalapo ngatwalatolapo ubufi nolo twalabomfya wisdom! nomba ku chitambo kaya nga wisdom ilesangwa! pantu ba GK balemoneka tamuli! Umuntu Kulya first elo no Ubumi not tumusange! nimo problems pantu nishi nesha pamela shikalashota!
    # 21 walasa kokolapo apo pantu bakamushi aba balemona kwati musange ikafwilisha kumafya yonse not knowin’ that its a problem palweka!!!
elo noyowine balevotela ngakwela umutanto, napanshi takakwate napo incito! mu GOV bacita kwati balibalowa kumuntu umowine! pantu bonse batontonkanya fimofine!

  20. Iwe ka Red Lipped Lizard, dont exploit the expansion plans of Service Providers just for the sake of campainging. Why havent you extended the services all this time ? This is cheap popularity !

  21. Why can’t Kunda and his Govt give that K59 billion towards redeeming Zamtel. You see bloggers, this Govt can save Zamtel if they had the heart to do it.

  22. GK is a jokerilday in day out. GRZ promised to improve Radio receuiption countrywide and TV signals what has happned to date Zero. Besides chaeting pipo of Chitambo Constituency with cell phone connectivity. How are the poor villagers going to charge their sets. The whole concept can only successed with providers such GRZ owned Zamtel not private operators those are there for profit nothing else. MMD are big jokers. They are gud at opening their mouths. GL talking of education shame upon you and your fellow liars.

  23. kunda and RB seems to be talking to the people about what they intend to do .amazing ,isnt it .they should be telling the electrolates -the people how ,if another candidate from the opposition is elected ,will create problems for the projects that the late MP left ,that they will have no continuit ,but they were no projects left by the dead MP.not even one is mentioned .is kunda saying the people of selenje have had no challenging issues that the late MP was adressing .how can the people of chitambo believe that.the only thing one can talk about in chitambo is the the place where david livingstone died.shame on you MMD

  24. #6, #7, and #8: I can see from what you have wrtten that you have never been to Chitambo or even to Serenje District. Chitambo Constituency has about 10 Rural Health Centres. The Serenje mpika road passes through Chitambo and so does the Tuta road. The main Hospital is at the Livingstone Memorial at Chitambo. As to food, the biggest farm block is just being set up in Serenje. But some of you have heard of the Kasaka game reserve which has a Trust in the UK to conserve the very rare antelope called sitatunga (which is unique to Zambia), the game reserve is wholly in Chitambo. Of course in a democracy every one is entitled to their own opinion. It is a free country.

  25. #24, You may wish to kow that Zamtel requires US$200m to recapitalise the company. The K59bn for cellphone connectivity throughout the country is less than US$12m. Please do your mathematics, then talk. Besides don’t you think it makes more sense to build connectivity infrastructure for the whole country. Please analyse your opportunity costs.

  26. nkole wa milandu ,tekanyeni ,the road from selenje to mpika does not pass thru chitambo.2.the hospitals you are talking about have no medicine, wedont even have to talk about that.you know that.the kasanka game reserve u are writting about has no passable roads let alone the serenje mpika road.i live near the kruger national park -you should see what a road leading to a tourist area should look like .during my holiday in zed i wanted to drive to mpika and the people said NO despite my top of the range 4*4 because the selenje mpika road is baaaddd.so its not opinion but anger at govt which happens to be MMD

  27. Iwe Nkole, give us the number of rural health centres. About 10?? Are these govt funded or friends in Europe paying for them? So there is a hospital at the David Livingstone memorial, but is it actually working, does it have drugs, are the wards clean? Did MMD build it or was it left by Super Ken? Let’s have some specifics on the farm block. Is this an RB initative or another legacy of LPM? As for Kasanka, again that was something that was actually set up during Kafupi’s reign. It is run by the decendents of Gore-Brown at Shiwa Ngandu. Please let us know what this MMD Govt is doing in the area. As for Zamtel, how much of the dept is as a result of unsettled govt bills?

  28. well, that 59bn plus the billions meant for mobile hospitals and if they made some savings by reducing on there endless travels and medical expences outside the Country etc etc, perhaps they could raise some substantial amounts towards that purpose

  29. I fail 2nderstand these African politicians, where is the minster of energy or technology ?It is not GKs job to be making promises which at the end of the day will not be delivered. I have not heard any of these ministers promising the pipo and end up delivering . But they must know that pipo are not sleeping , they can see through all your fake promises.

  30. imwe ba Nkole muleyekanya these clinics you are writing about as those they have theatre facilities where one can even perform a mini operation kano ku lusaka.By the way GRZ owes zamtel alot of money, they should have done like zesco in itezhi tezhi where power was disconected awaiting clearing of outstanding bills. balibelela ifya mahala. no wonder they want to remain in power, even if it means telling lies like Gk ,ronnie, teta, mike..

  31. This is demeaning your fellow human beings. Only recently one of these guys promised fertilizer prices for K 25, 000.

  32. Promissory fertilizer, promissory cellphone connectivity, promissory schools, promissory development, promissory houses, promissory pit latrines; the list of promises that characterises each election is so stupefying that it now sounds more like a foghorn of that which is untenable.

  33. those are empty promise GK. what were you waiting for all along? kubufi mwampena, ala lesa lunkunsha!!!!!!!!! why cant you just tell the people of chitambo constituency that you have failed to perform.lets the people that are ready to serve the county do so. there is totally nothing that you hace done since you were elected into office by’ WHOEVER’

  34. These polticains have lost the plot, very soon they will start to promise voters their wives, dotas even sons and relatives. vote for me , then you can have my son, dota or even wifey as ka dyonko.

  35. Who said the these people need cell phones instead of development and poverty alleviation. Stop treating people like they are children who would stop crying after being given a false promise of a sweet. You should be ashamed of yourself ba Kunda, muli bakalamba.

  36. #29 Nkole the bootlicker………. Dont just boot lick like a person without brains. I had a survey in the Whole Chitambo area. From Kasanka gamepark along the Tuta road up to chief Serenje. If you want statics on the prevailing livehood of Chitambo people I can give you. The statics are so terrible. The health facilities are in a deplorable state. While in that area we involved in an accident, a cyclist hit into our vehicle and we took him to Chitambo-palce Hospital….hee, guys you cant like the state of the hospital. Its just something and you may wonder what the gonvt responsibility is. The hospital had only one medical officer whom we had to waite for as he had gone to his small farm to work.THIS THE SITUATION PREVAILING AT ALL CLINICS IN CHITAMBO. People also are very poor there.

  37. # 45 imiti ikula….have you lived there in Kundamfumu? My father had a farm near that area. The farm was at Fitobolo….take care man.

  38. GK should be serious, how does he sell the idea of cell phones to this poor villagers new development in Chitambo, instead of giving out free education, good health care, clean water and sanitation, etc?HIV and Aids are still a problem.
Stop using cheap politics and those are not children you are telling. But the problem these guys in the village is that they will opt to go for phones than eating and they will only realise when ka Gorge Kunda has left them

  39. #45, you come from pa mushi pa Kunda Mfumu as you are coming from Chembe Luapula Mwanawasa Bridge heading few Kilometers to Mansa. I also come from that area and lasted visited home in 1993. Wanjibukisha kumushi mune Imiti ikula. Which village of Kunda Mfumu do you come from? My grandfather is the current Kunda Mfumu.

  40. Do these liars even feel guilty and ashamed? Any normal person the level VP should be ashamed and feel pity for the poor.

  41. Caution: Not ALL Columbia County polling plcaes will be open for the Aug. 9 recall. About a third of the county is NOT in the 14th Senate District. This includes the Saddle Ridge Development; even though abutting municipalities such as the city of Portage and the town of Winnebago are part of the 14th District, Saddle Ridge, in the town of Pacific, is not. The more tools we can use to show folks exactly which polling plcaes are and aren’t included in the district, the better.
