GOVERNMENT has advised local authorities against turning the recently purchased hearses into income generating vehicles.

Acting Minister of Local Government and Housing, Bradford Machila said in an interview that the hearses should provide a service to communities.

He said the money raised from hire charges of hearses should be channelled towards maintenance costs of the vehicles.

“I want to appeal to councils across the country that they should not use hearses to generate income for council operations because the vehicles were purchased to provide a service to communities.

And there are some communities in rural areas who cannot afford to pay for usage of the hearses,” Mr Machila said.

He said the K300,000 charge which he mentioned should not be a uniform fee because not all communities can afford such an amount.

Mr Machila said councils should allow communities to use the hearses with or without paying the K300,000 charge in full because government procured the hearses to provide a service to communities.

“The K300,000 is the maximum and, obviously, some communities cannot afford that. The hearses were purely purchased to provide a service, but they need to be maintained,” he said.

Government recently procured 100 hearses from China which have since been distributed to all 72 districts.

  1. Very ugly vehicles indeed for that price. They could have settled for something that is pleasant to the eye and of course much cheaper. Anyway, Teta seems to know what was coming his way.

  2. Teta is not worthy of being driven in a car, not even in these urgly Tetamalilos he bought at dubious prices using our money. He must be wheelbarrowed to his village in Kolwezi, I stand ready to donate a wheelbarrow. So good that just when his products come into service, his remains are some of the first to try for a jolly ride but we the survivors shall ensure he is not accorded such an honour because he does not deserve it.

  3. It was the legendary Gladiator of Rome, Marcus Aurelius, who once said and quote: “What we do in life, echoes in eternity.” How sad Teta would have been to see the scant pickings called the harvest of his life! His deeds in life were so repulsive, one really wondered sometimes whether that man was on drugs or just had an endowment or gift from god to be abnoxious? The things he said about Mazoka before that humble servant of the people died were so hurtful, and now that it is his turn to embark on his last journey I am not suprised many people see this as good riddance. Indeed, its what he did in life echoing in eternity.

  4. When buying those hearses these guys thought they were buying for us suffering Zambian. But instead its them who will be driven in those hearses one by one until they are all cleared. The entire cabinet in full of sick people.

  5. what can i say all has been said already it just that they bought those Hearses knowing very well that they will soon need to use them to carry their bodies in what a shame Shikapwasha dont talk too much watch your mouth you may be next

  6. It is SAD to see the members of Zambia Diaspora sink so low, especially with a dead person. I thought diaspora represents well educated and civilized people. From the comments above its hand to defferenciate between the “Kaponya” from the streets in Kitwe and the well exposed diaspora.

  7. ON: “He said the K300,000 charge which he mentioned should not be a uniform fee because not all communities can afford such an amount.” So there is a max fee, but what is the min? Who is going to pay that max ?

My advice to Mr. Machila is that he should stop mixing up himself. Please make rules/laws that are not segregative, but uniform. Such rules only promotes theft and corruption by public servants.

  8. Many House holds in Zambia dont even earn your 300 pin, These are some of the things you would have kept in mind b4 purchasing your Tentemaliloz .if people cant afford 100 pin to rush someone to the hospital, Do you really think is it sensible to pay twice more to take them to the grave.Iwe # 12 Color blind dont be blind in your thinking too. What is the point in respecting the dead and let the living wallow in poverty.?
A f00l doesn’t become wise in death, my opinion of Ben will not change with his demise, to me your Honorable was a hardcore bootlicker who would lick anything for money.
The Hearss deal is a blunder in the political history of our country no one can justify the non sense of claiming to respect the dead and Zambulance the living to their death beds

  9. It is only a matter of time, a year or so before those mandamandas start breaking down. The nature and state of our grave and just rural roads is terrible. Spares will be hard to fine and so they will start parking one by one. What a waste. It was a very, very bad buy.

  11. Those mandamandas don’t look strong to me, or is it that you can’t tell by looking? Again they will need to be maintained using tax payers moneys.
Well bwana Machila, outline to the nation the program that will keep those useless mandamandas operational. The decision to buy mandamandas was a terrible one. I don’t buy your story period.

  12. Machila, when you were buying these things i presume you considered the cost of runing these manda mandas. I hope you have spare parts within zambia or else brakedown means park and let rot. TETA M.H.S.R.I.P you will miss money being generated from your hearses.

  13. Oh no , these things are agree, Whay didi they choose such sacry cars. can you imagine if you are going to bury your loved one , then the mandanda apears , it will be even bring more sorrow knowing that they will be carried in such a car.

  14. Ba mapini, where did u hear a dead person miss anything? no wonder you are in Israel, smart people go to western civilization

  15. I have yet to read a sensible and meaningful statement from any of the current ministers. They just open their mouths without thinking and they are all like they were hatched from the same nest. This is why I agree with #15, We Can.

  16. Number 20 & 21,Do you need education to spot foolishness in somebody? Your Teta kissed A.S.S all the way to his evil grave. As somebody correctly observed, his demise can not evoke any sympathy for that lunatic

  17. Mapini, I think you need education, to know , you can not insult a dead person. They are enough living people in Zambia you can insult. RB, Shikapwasha, Chiluba , and the list goes on.

  18. Mapini, I can imagine if you were a politician in Zambia, you will be no different from a dead man. you are “cold dead yourself. A person who thinks like you as no “soul”, Jesus said “who ever has “no wrong” (paraphrased) let him be the first one to cast a stone on that woman”

  19. The one who bought these hearses did not consider the landscape of Western province.Do these hearses have four wheel drive so that they can drive in Western province?
The Minister should also tell us what will be the minimum fare

  20. Just use these ugly creatures to ferry Chipolopolo players from airport to Munda Wanga so that the those maonkeys deported from State House can deliver justice on them.

  21. RIP Tetamaboza. We’ll meet on judgment day and you will think i had leakage to the questions Jesus will be asking.

  22. Color blind instead of condescendigly telling people to be educated, why don’t your educate your metally circumsized mind and research where the fear of dead people came from. It’s stupid ancient superstition from pagans I doubt a person like you that harps on about education even knows anything about traditions you inherit. A fool in life is a fool in death

  23. We are morning a great man, withot him the election would nt have been what it is, he contributed greatly to the party and its government.

  24. Slumdog, I may be not well versed in History, but the little education I have tells me that “a
dead man tells no tales” Which means kill the witnesses so they can’t testify against us. ” IF one thief who had information about a robbery is elliminated, it leaves the 9 start planning another robbery. You can go with every torture tactic you have, the dead will not help you. UNIP had Kamalondo, who thought Kaunda was God, Chiluba had Kangwa Suluka, all these are dead “once very arrogant people, that did not stop us having TETA,
The question is what should we do to prevent another TETA imaging? But targeting a dead person will not help.

  25. Wasted money send them back we want our money back;; for other developmental projects some one must pay for this wastage

  26. #41 is this dead person being targeted because they are dead or because of what they did when they were alive. So people are supposed to get amnesia and suddenly forget what he did just because he is dead. If he wanted respect when dead he should have made an effort in life to gain that respect. What people say about you is a reflection of who you truely are , death won’t wipe your slate clean. We are all going to die and just because of that it won’t make us all saints just because we kicked the bucket

  27. Slumdog, you have not said what good it will do, by kicking a dead man, May be I am missing something, its not that I am scared of talking about a dead person, but just tell me what you are trying to accoplish.

  28. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    Matthew 13:49-50

  29. it is good to note that teta is no more cause for a long time tetamalililo has been misleding the nation rest in peace say hi to L.P.M and lets hope you are not going to be misleading the dead

  30. kwena ine ndepapa mwe….. we are being told that the manda mand are not for profit making and we were trying to be dooped into the “its for the poor pipo of Zambia ” line. Kwena bane….we shud know that the common Zambian in the deep rural areas (were we are told they need them most) cannot afford the 300 pin on a good day, let alone at a time of grieving!!!! awe this is not right

  31. I used to enjoy coming to this site to see what was going on in the country but these days…If you people have nothing better to say it’s best to keep quiet, christians are supposed to be building one another and though ‘we’ never liked mr teta we should at least respect his family regardless of the mistakes he made. We are only human after all and none of us is righteous but we are the first to point a finger and condemn others especially those who are unable to defend themselves. @ this time we should be focusing on comforting and encouraging this man’s family and loved ones, anyway a country isn’t christian simply by politicians saying so. Grow up people I’m sure if you were not hiding behind those fake names you use here most of you wouldn’t have the courage to say what you…
