Egypt Sucker Punch Flattens Zambia

Herve Renard has said Zambia must show more character and spirit in the midst of the teams scoring woes.

Renard said this during the post-match press briefing after Zambia lost 1-0 at home to Egypt in the two side’s penultimate 2010 Worlds/Africa Cup Group C qualifier.

Egypt scored their winner with their only tangible chance of the game through midfielder Hosni Abd Rabou of Al Ahli Dubai in the UAE.

“We have to be strong in our minds, I saw some players with shoulders low. A low spirit will make things difficult,” Renard said.

“We have a problem, statistic will show how many chances we had and Egypt just had one.”

Zambia dominated Egypt for most of the first half led by an inspired Rainford Kalaba but could not breakthrough the visitors’ talismanic goalkeeper Essam Al Hadari.

Meanwhile, Renard said he was still confident Zambia will qualify to the Africa Cup in Angola.

“I can tell you we will qualify to Angola,” the Frenchman said.

Zambia play Rwanda in their final game on November 14 in Kigali.

Rwanda are in Algeria whom they face on Sunday night in the other penultimate round Group C match in Blida.

  1. Renard,u know that AFCON is easy because 3 teams go through..Thats why you talk big and stupid..But careful..Rwanda aint a walk over..They will be playing to prove they aint a walk over..They aint like your team which loses hope at home turf..Football has changed french..there is nothing like playing home ground or what..you have to win regardless of where the game is being played..if you are good you are good..

  2. Renard,u know that AFCON is easy because 3 teams go through..Thats why you talk big and s.t.u.p.i.d.But careful..Rwanda aint a walk over..They will be playing to prove they aint a walk over..They aint like your team which loses hope at home turf..Football has changed french..there is nothing like playing home ground or what..you have to win regardless of where the game is being played..if you are good you are good..

  3. Actually Rwanda played better than Zambia even if they lost the game in zambia. I expect Zambia to lose at least by two goals in Kigali

  4. I feel Herve Renard did his best with the resources available to him.The players he had are the best the country has at the moment.Which other players can one talk about.
It will be better for Zambia to miss the AFCON in Angola as qualifying will not help us focus on the underlying problem of Zambian soccer. That is poor standards of local football administration. How can a poorly organized local league produce good quality players. And how do you expect a national coach,be he local or foreign,to perform wonders with these players?
Kalusha thinks more about National team football than the local football leagues.FAZ needs someone who has a better understanding of local football league problems. That is were our football problems lie.We won’t go far until we address our local football issues

  5. Good results and I pray Rwanda wins. Undoubtedly Zambia just like MMD will not win anymore.

  6. I love the title of the article amazing. I think this serve Kalu right for selling PP’s games just so PP did not do better and Mulonga was kicked out. I hope we dont qualify to Africa cup and you are kicked out of office Kalu.

  7. All things being equal Rwanda deserves a place at the African cup! Too much talk talk talk defending useless individuals in Zambia.

  8. I hope Rwanda get a draw or if possible a win over Algeria. We have to support our brothers and not the Arabs.I can’t imagine a Zambian supporting Algeria………………

  9. I JUST HOPE ZAMBIA WONT QUALIFY. WE HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS AND SOCCER IS LIKE A DRUG WHICH PREVENTS US FROM VIEWING REALITY AS IT SHUD BE. WATCHING ZAMBIA ON SOPCAST TODAY WAS A SHAME TO SAY THE LEAST. THE GROUND, THE PLAYERS, THE SUPPORT ALL REFELCT SERIOUS PROBLEMS. RWANDA DID WELL IN LUSAKA AND I WONT COUNT THEM OFF. AS FOR THAT COACH HE SHUD REALISE THAT GOING TO AFRICA CUP FOR ZAMBIA IS SOMETHING NORMAL. THE GUY IS PAID TOO MUCH MONEY FOR DOING NOTHING. ITS TIME RESOURCES ARE SHIFTED INTO OTHER SPORTS.

  10. Judgin from wat i saw zambia had a good strategy so dont blame the coach its the playerz that r useless!

  11. coach u think Rwanda is a walk over?actually am in support of Rwanda.ba Zambia it’s now too much of you disappointing us.even a draw u can’t.Go Rwanda Goal and beat this ***

  12. I work with an Egyptian and after todays brave act supporting my team and being adamant Zambia would win, im expecting a Knock-Out from him! Shame Chipolopolo

  13. Yes #4 I totally agree with you. The Coach may not have a problem, even if you brought a great high class Coach from one of the English Clubs, Zambia would still lose to Rwanda. Let us go back to football in schools, local district clubs, local league.

  14. Its a waste of time to analyse Zambia vs Egypt game for the fact that with the current status in Zambian foot ball its well known that Zambia cant beat Egypt whatsoever period.

  15. Different coaches and yet still same outcome, it’s high time the nation just admitted your soccer is useless because the common denominator is the players not the coaches. Your soccer game is weak as babyfeet and needs to forever take the back seat

  16. Like MMD- Zambian football is almost extinct. People alnoy remember the team that perished and not this one. Shame

  17. Kaulusha is not the fit for the job of driving growth and managing national football business.. That said .. we, especially the men, are all to blame for this. Football is a product needs investment and funding.. ZCCM has gone .. the days of Mighty, Kalampa, Power 90 will be our fondest memories at the rate we are going. I feel sorry for the kids of now a days. They never felt the unity the greatness the spitit of football those days. Local Derby Kalampa vs Power.. MalaZA (kelvin Mutale) ninshi Ale warma.. (sob sob sob)

  18. buti nalila.. neway.. my point was that we should all share the responsibility. kalu is not fit for the role of FAZ president, yes.. I agree…but at least he’s been trying hard to contribute to the game in Zambia.. Unlike most of us.. What annoys me the most is that Zambian guys would rather spend weekend at pubs pa Smugglers pa Namakau watchng and even fighting over Englisha Premier League matches instead of going to watch and support our own footbal being played live in the stadium .. it hurts.. Just 2 hours between 15h and 17h kickoff.. just twoo hours is too much to spare.. The entrace fees are 1 dollar 20 .. or 2 dollars fo rVIP .. only…

  19. And you know.. all the fat pot bellies holding glasses of MOSI .. smiling the screens wearing tuma ManU or Gunners repilaca are even doing it kwati ba le wamya! with no shame… They,we, are the first to slaughter our administration and express discust awe and shock at the result we are getting.. If you dont financially contribute to the welfare and standard of living of our players and our games, how do you expect to have healthy , fit towering plays.. how do you expect to have well developed players skills wise.. clean cut even surfaces.. The players dont eat well .. they are stnunted in growth… but they are the ones to represent us.. then we complain.. imagine if every soccer lover in Zambia left even K3,000 every eweekend we would be headed the right way

  20. There must be at least 300,000 soccer lovers. Chipolopolo.. im a Kalampa.. if evry went to see at least one game a week.. we are talking about K1.5billion guaranteed.. almost $1m every month .. Would n’t taht go to fundermentally imporving our squd, and standards??? Thats what happend in Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa ..even Angola.. Over weekends you dont see them wearing MAdrid Replica’s.. The’re wearing a jearsy of the local teams.. from head to tow..
it simple.. WE ARE THE PROBLEM.. not Kalu.. not the Players.. Not the Coach.. nbu US

  21. Herve is so right – Zambian players need to show more heart. I dont know if these lads are not fed or what but they lack the passion. As for not qualifying to the World Cup – i think its a good thing – i would hate for us to go to SA and be man handled by Spain or Holland.

  22. #23,#24,#25 Digga. All you have to do is just go and watch one local league game.I suppose you haven’t done so in a long time.I can assure you that you will be crying for your refund of $1.20 after the game.

I watched a game between Green Buffaloes and Konkola Blades a year ago.The standard of football in Zambia is terrible. In the 80’s and 90’s up to 2001 local football was exciting to watch.I can’t blame anyone for preferring to watch the English league now.

You watch sport for it’s excitement and not patriotism

  23. I d i o t s yet again yapping about Kalu! The problem is not Kalu. If you watched the game yesterday, you may have clearly seen the problem goes beyond football circles. Even Arsene Wenger can`t take Zambia to the world cup with these players. The moment you sold ZCCM was the time you said bye bye to competing at the highest level. Stop deluding yourselves.

  24. countrymen lets quit the blame game and try to help come up with a solution or perspective to the problem. the current result , as we all know, has become a recurring theme since as far back as you can go in zambian football. now its not inconcievable to assume that constant exposure to a particular event results in it being ingrained in the psyche of the subjects involved. self confidence and esteem is lost and this drives their behaviour, which is losing in this case. hence a vicious cycle is established
now i believe we can hire all the hindiks and fergussons of this world to coach the chipolopolo and the result will still be the same. the physical abilities of the players will be enhanced quite alright leaving behind the psychological abilities
so hire a good sports psychologist i…

  25. Finally, the connections that Kalusha Bwalya has are paying off, hah? No he has connections and football will improve and so forth, hey maybe RB also has connections!

  26. My prayer is that Zambia by all means should lose to The Rwandese in KIGALI maybe the failure to qualify for AFCO will help us build a formidable side that could walk out of the pitch with atleast a goal to their side. I grow up supporting the team that never lost at home for 18 years but the KALU saga against ANGOLA in COSAFA finals changed the soccer history for Zambia and still todays KALU football administration has brought more WOE WOE WOE to the football history “lossing 2 times continuasly at home!”. KALU is just a fortune seeker or GOLD digger who should not continue to lead FAZ otherwise we should just forget about improving soccer in ZAMBIA

  27. Just get rid of Kalusha Bwalya…. Has he even lets go of the hotel room at pamodzi Hotel. There’s billions of monies that have been pumped in for these failures of footballers and their administrators. Mind you there’s teachers and nurses that are surviving with kids under K1M… lets get real guys…. Kalusha is a cheat, selfish and arrogant for nothing chap… Wake up Zambia!

  28. #33 Poete, suggest or give us the names of people you have in mind, for FAZ President and Coach!

  29. yaa…every thing is just bad. What do you expect when allmost every thing in the country is not okay?????

  30. I agree with number 10. Why should we depend on the misfortunes of others to get ahead? Why not strike and win to get ahead?

  31. Bla bla bla about kalu this and the coach that. Zambian soccer has gone down and we need to figure out how we can improve it, i have said it time and again, we need to go back to the drawing board, we need to start looking for soccer talent at an early stage, i.e in primary and secondary schools. introduce sports scholarships, improve the inter school competitions, then only can you improve the local leagues. How do you expect to train a player whose fully grown something new. Soccer is not just about the persons physic it involves critical thinking too. Lets get rid of the old timers and start afresh. Even when a car is giving you hustles, you are better off getting rid of it and buying a new one rather than spending $’s on repairs. Not even the best mechanics (Renard) can make wonders.

  32. I wish someone could spell out the remedy which Zambian soccer needs. I mean a proper remedy that would produce results not false hope.

  33. My COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN, you ask what the remedy is to our Zambian football is ?, plain simple, we should have a plan for a period of say 10 years, where we will be going into rural areas to get players, remember the ashoes melu, luck msiska, kapembwe mulengas etc, those guys were discoverd from deep villages. This FAZ should be serious, money should be pumped into sending coaches into the rural areas to identify talent during off season,so that we nature the players from there, staying in lusaka and kitwe waiting for players will not take us anywhere. For this reason am starting with what I will call PROJECT 2018,FAZ can get in touch with me (0975945050) if they want so that we work together. Currently am training some under 20’s, Zambia is a gifted country, 2018 we should see the…

  34. Zambia, Zambia, Zambia: delapidated stadia, no competitive school soccer, no junior national team, disorganised FAZ, dismantled ZCCM which sposnored most of the good teams in the past…and you still expect to win?

    Go search for Juju…

  35. #34 i dont have to suggest names to FAZ that should take up the position rather the insinuation here is that the people of Zambia should wake up.When times of reckoning arrive and when its time to choose leaders we ought to scrutinise them fully. And not petty, selfish and arrogant for nothing characters like Kalusha Bwalya. We deserve far much better not cheats like him Kalu.I Wonder why we tolerate such mediocrity.

  36. When Zambia is featured in the same group with Arab countries like Egypt,Tunisia,Algeria,Morroco & West African countries like Ghana,Nigeria,Camerron,Senegal,Guinea,Ivory coast etc they are always considered to weeping boys if not under dogs. The problem with strikers to find the net is poor shooting one wonders if the coach make these players practice how to take a penalty nor a free kick.No one has taken over from kalu’s way of scoring free kicks it’s Zero @the moment.May be just switch to something not soccer.

  37. Our players need to develop the passion for footblt and our strikers to shhot from farin order to score like the egyptians did. When are we going to have players like Kalusha Bwalya who when things were impossible he could score. We need also personal to holder positions so that we stop experiments. In the olden days we could even predict the line up and players never lost form.
