The Immigration Department in Senanga district has arrested three Chinese nationals for illegally working in Zambia.

The arrests were made during a combined operation with Nangweshi Police and Immigration officers. The Chinese men were working for a named Sawmilling company in Shangombo area.

Immigrations Public Relations Officer, Mulako Mbangweta, confirmed the arrest to ZANIS in Senanga, adding that the victims admitted the offence leveled against them.

Ms Mbangweta said Dia Xinlong, 46, Lu Peizhi, 41, and Liu Aoran, 21, have since paid K1,080,000 each for admission of the offence.

Ms Mbangweta explained that the trio entered Zambia only as visitors but unlawfully engaged in paid employed at a Sawmilling company.

She said working without a permit was contrary to Sections 19 (1) and 30 (1) Cap 123 as read with amended Act 25 of 1997 of the Laws of Zambia.

Ms Mbangweta warned that the law would always catch up with people engaged in illegal activities and advised foreigners and foreign companies to desist from such activities.

  1. Why havent they been deported? Why charge them K1 Million only thats like $150 USD! Come Zambians we can do better than that!

  2. Fine them, then deport them. Silly chon-chollies! I have suffered enough eh…not long ago i was in England eh…trying to get work I ended up working for BBC (British Bum Cleaners), moved to America the land of dreams, I ended up for ABC (American Bum Cleaners). Now an in South Africa, and am still working for a similar company, SABC (South African Bum Cleaners) coz I can’t get a permit! Nachula sana ma guys…!!!

  3. I hear you Diaspora victim. You’re too funny ati “BBC”…you’ve made my day. We’ve all been “victims” of the system at some point and to hear this happening in our home land and these chaps are being fined is an insult. Do them like they do us. Fine them and kuya bebele on the next plane, bus or whatever method they used whne they came in. Buti tufikamba twabosha, walaunfwa ati they are still in the country…pa Zed awe shuwa bwafia.

  4. But these chaps are supposed to be deported apart from charging them.
Is there a different law for the chinese and another for other illegal immigrants from African countries.
I know of West African illegal immigrants who are held at Kanfinsa State Prison for ages awaiting deportation which usually takes months.
Can the immigration department clarify on this matter as those Chinese chaps have broken the law.

  5. Let them face the law just like any foreign national found wanting.
I also strongly think that the Govt /Lawmakers should review the Immigration act to make it easier for law abinding foreign nationals to work and settle in Zambia. I think we should shift from the current xenophobit attitude towards foreigners, especially our neigboures (Congolesse, Zimbabweans, Rwandans, Angolans, etc) and set up a processes to allow those willing to settle in Zambia legally.
I jate to say this, but I would rather let somebody from another country work on a piece of land and create wealth for themselves than let shrubs grow on the same piece of land year in year out without producing anything. Let us use and encourage productivity from all people who can. Peace brothers

  6. For those of us in the diaspora and know the hardships of trying to settle and work in foreign land should we not be advocating for balanced and progressive legislation that permits well meaning and law abiding foreigners to settle and work in our countries. We wish the same for ourselves in the countries we are in; that they my be more receptive to foreigners (like ourselves) who are well meaning. SO lets not be to fast to cry that they be deported when we ourselves can be in similar situations in the near future. World over the attitude to migrants in search of a better life should change a labour becomes a fully tradeable commodity across international boarders. Migrant workers form the backbone of economies of the US and many European countries such as the UK and Italy
