The United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) Pact have adopted Watson Lumba as their candidate for the Solwezi Central Parliamentary by-elections.

Speaking at a PF/ UPND press briefing in Lusaka toady, PF spokesperson Given Lubinda said Mr. Lumba will stand on the UPND ticket.

Mr. Lubinda said Mr Lumba has been an active politician in Solwezi and chairman of the government contracts committee in the National Management Committee (NMC) of the UPND.

He the pact is confident that the pact will scoop the seat in Solwezi because the pact is becoming sharper and clearer.

Mr. Lubinda has since called on the electorate in Solwezi Central Constituency to vote for Mr. Lumba.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Solwezi MMD area Member of Parliament (MP) Ben Tetamashimba and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set November 19th 2009 as the date of elections.

Speaking earlier UPND Chairperson for Information and Publicity Charles Kakoma announced that the party yesterday expelled Namwala Member of Parliament (MP) Major Robbie Chizyuka.

Mr. Kakoma said the expulsion comes as a result of Mr. Chizyuka’s gross misconduct which has caused discontent and despondency in the pact.

He explained that the party has since written to Mr. Chizyuka’s lawyers who have since responded on the matter.

Mr. Kakoma further explained that the Speaker of the National Assembly has also been informed and advised to declare the Namwala constituency seat vacant.

He further said the Southern Province MMD have welcomed the move to expel the area MP.

  1. Thank you for firing, sacking, expelling Maj Chizyuka its long over due. he has been a hinderance to the pact. Ya but ni chizungu ichi cha students companion. do not argue some of you where not yet born in the 60s and 70s. If you were bone by then, was Kalumbi Banda related to Rupiah Banda ? can you remember?

  2. I wonder if Lubinda does not smoke chamba too apart from cigarrenta. Now that a candidate has been nominated to stand, lets go to Solwezi and smoke our lungs out until we win, say Lubinda. Its sad that Major Chisyuka has been kicked out of UPND. Any how, thats the result of depending on ones pocket to run a party and he calls it short. HH is another tyranny in waiting.

  3. I think thats a good move it shows good leadership. People ahould know why they are eleceted not just to talk anyhow. But to represent the people who voted them in power as well as the parties intention.

  4. Suspensions, expulsions, new political themes in Zambia, where is the tolerance of divergent views, and liniency, Now HH’s strongest supporter has been given the boot. What next another unecessary cost on the government in a by-election, at the expense of who taxpayers money. the next is kafuluafuta. I worry for my country that political parties are run by individuals interests, and if those interests are contrary to your view, you are kicked out. Where is Sakwiba Sikota, kahenya, Chisanga, list is endless now Chizuka, UPND, is dieing slowly, soon people will see that PF is a lesser evil of the two!

  5. Another by-election in Namwala! I hope the Pact emerges the winner in the by-election in Solwezi. MMD has failed us!

  6. Congrats the pact twachula pafula ,good luck the PACT , let this SUZUKI join mmd so that he becomes like former nchanga MP Chimumbwa!!!!!!!

  7. PACT, good, now we will meet him in election. The man is just too backward. While the world is moving towards one village Chizyuka wants to take Zambia back to the 18th and 19th centuries when tribes fought against each other. Blacks angainst whites etc. Let Chzyua know that now we are in a new epoch that recognises unity, oneness, love and equity. Who said Bembas can’t work with Tongas? This is d.u.l.l thinking on the part of Chizyuka. All tribes in Zambia are moving towards one tribe and this tribe is Zambia. There is a lot of inter-tribe mariages and soon there will be no tribe in Zambia just like in the western world. Us the youths are saying no to the inspid divisions and seperations men like Chizyuka want to pile on us. We are all moving towards civilization. Chizyuka must Change.

  8. #13 Kambongolo, You are really impressive in your comment above and hope people like Chizyuka never come any closer to leadership. It equally pains me so much when I hear tribal remarks from elders with pea size brains.

  9. Ba PF na UPND keep on dreaming .If you think Solwezi is Kasama. This lusaka chap cant match our boy. . . .wish you luck!

  10. MMD is winning this election and the PACT will then get ERECTED due to anger. We call it BUKAJI in KAONDE. VIVA KIFITA VIVA, VIVAAAAA!

  11. I thought Devies Kapijimpanga would get adopted by the useless pact. The reformed drug trafficker once arrested at International Airport, Devies you are rejected completely 2getha with your old wife. Young are just a reverse of RB who has a very young wife

  12. last time around?

LUMBA Watson UPND, FDD, UNIP (UDA) 6,045
    KATUKA Yobe P. Independent 3,013
    KANYAKULA Dennis Independent 1,112
    KASEMA Abel NDF 1,079
    CHAULEMBI John M. APC 499

  13. Presidential pager ************……..why cant you read the situation, dont just comment because you want, you need to analyse issues before commenting

  14. guys kanshi na imwe mwalijobapo ka student companion. That’s a nice book. I hear there’s a 2000 edition now. I only have a 1990s edition.

  15. #13 Kambongolo, I’m impressed with your comment. You are one of the people thats followed Chizyuka’s behaviour for a long time now, way before the PACT. In UPND he was a real liability. In 2007 he was on Radio Phoenix on let the peopl talk programme with Ben Kangwa and the issue was the proposed ZAWA concession to new developers and about 500 villagers in these game reserve areas would be displaced as a result. He spoke for 1 hour straight he issued very RACIST REMARKS AGAINST PEOPLE of DIFFERENT SKIN colour even if Zambian. He went on about the evils of non-black investors. It was so embarassing. A White Zambian lady called in and gave it to him. She said she was worried about the type leaders like him coming through. She asked him if all Blacks shud be chased frm Europe as he…

  16. Mazoka did not adopt Chizuka as MP but Oppi Nkumbula, when HH adopted this soldier the chief also protested and UPND got less votes despite winning in Namwala. Let MMD give him a job. Advice to Chizuka just stand as independent MP you may receive sympathy votes, NEVER EVER join MMD you will be finished!

  17. #25 I see utter nonsense in your aurguments. Whether u like it or not, Chizyuka has displayed a lot of courage and integrity in standing for what he believes in. Thats more than I can say for the rest of the docile MPs in this so called PACT, too afraid to even utter their opinions for fear of being not adopted in 2011. What nonsense!
Viva Chiyuka. If UPND doesn’t want u, u are justified to join any other party! In fact shock them and join PF, & let’s see if HH will become a relevant player in all this…

  18. Japanes I followed your argument and went to do some research on it, only to find like Digga it was utter rubbish. Chiyuka when he stood as MP scored the highest ever recorded results in Southern province, 14,466 much higher than the presidential vote, meaning that HH was riding on Chizyuka’s popularity. Blogg wisely, with correct statistics, do not mislead people, and let your personal issues affect your reasoning!

  19. ALLLLL THE BEEEESSSST PACT UKUBOKO MUBWATO!!! LUMBA WATSON YOU WERE NUMBER TWO LAST TIME THIS TIME YOU WILL BE NUMBER ONE!!!

  20. I see it all through the eyes of a needle, depletion of the MMD, known to brainwash people
politician never learn (shit) we just concern about
who’s ****in who, when time is of significance.Ghost, we disregard the most magnificent, cadres eat of the fruit that is poisonous and lethal
Stuck in the crux of the spell with the evil,Credits about to roll and hell is the sequel.

  21. The mystery of unity will always be a riddle .We don’t care about any opinion ,We don’t believe in any dominion ,Isn’t punk about something else? Gig politics can go to hell, Not left, not right, but trough the middle.Global thug politics, every man in his argument We form as one, who can abolish it?

  22. Let there be unity regardless of political affiliation, let the best candidate win the coming bye eraction in kolwezi central. Thanks for firing Chizyuka, Dr Kaunda was not stupid to declare one zambia one nation, we dont need pipo who issue tribal remarks, they retard development.

  23. Russia’s Altimo says to bid for Zambia’s Zamtel as citizens too busy blogging insults on each other

Russian investment company Alfa Group’s telecoms arm, Altimo, is to bid for Zambia’s Zamtel fixed-line and mobile telecommunications company.

“We think that Zambia, with its 12 million population and low penetration of mobile telecommunications, has an impressive investment potential,” Altimo Senior Vice President Kirill Babaev said in a statement on Wednesday.

The southern African nation’s development agency last week said there were eight suitors left in the race to buy Zamtel, though it did not say how much it hopes to receive for the company.

  24. “Zambia’s reserve position at about US$1.7 billion is now stronger than it has been in almost four decades”

“the overall performance of the economy has held up well”

“The government is to be commended for its handling of fiscal policy in 2009”

  25. Zambia economy resilient but facing challenges-IMF

Zambia has weathered the global downturn, and a review of an International Monetary Fund poverty reduction arrangement is on track, the IMF said on Wednesday, but the country must do more to improve public finance.

‘While the overall performance of the economy has held up well, government revenue collections, particularly of import-related taxes, have fallen short of expectations,’ the IMF said in a statement following a staff mission to Zambia.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission visited Lusaka October 15–28 to conduct the discussions for the 2009 Article IV consultation and for the third review of Zambia’s Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) with the IMF. The mission met with the Minister of Finance…

  26. The mission met with the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Hon. Situmbeko Musokotwane; Governor of the Bank of Zambia, Dr. Caleb Fundanga; other senior officials; and representatives of the business community, labor unions, civil society, and Zambia’s cooperating partners. The mission is grateful to the authorities for the fruitful discussions and warm hospitality over the last two weeks.

At the conclusion of the mission in Lusaka today, Mr. George Tsibouris, mission chief for Zambia, released the following statement:

“I am pleased to say that we have reached ad referendum understandings on macroeconomic and structural policies for 2010 that would pave the way for the completion of the third review under Zambia’s PRGF arrangement with the IMF.

  27. I am disgusted, abhorred, vexed by Chizyuka’s remarks to embarrass himself.
Sad though that we’ll have to pay for the by-elections. Zambia’s political terrain is becoming expensive on both ends: current political leaders are getting more corrupt, would be politicians are also itching to benefit from the inherent power of a government.
    P.S. Student’s companion at work

  28. Observer 35-37 Thanks for the info. But we have read about such before. What we want is real economic indicators not on paper. What practical results can you give us? We need to see positive development in specific areas not on paper. Go and cheat others,Zambia has not made any significant progess period.

  29. I am now beginning to get worried about by-elections. Won’t they cover the whole country before 2011…and at whose expense? This time around people should be let free to prepare for their agricultural activities and not confusing them with campaigns and lining up to cast their votes. the rains won’t wait! If anything, why can’t we just fast-forward to 2011? Finally, I wish I had the powers to expel someone so as to have some by-election at house-hold level, or indeed at national level!

  30. It is interesting to see how many names CHIZYUKA has acquired on this blog:
    Maj Chizyuka from #1,
    Major Chisyuka from #5,
    Chizuka from #9,
    SUZUKI from #12,
    Chzyua from #13,
    Chiyuka from #29.

Anyway, whatever, and whoever, it is good that this man has been expelled. He was some unrepentant hardliner. Go PACT for the Solwezi central; we are behind you.

  31. GO the pact,,Lets embarass this MMD once more..get the Solwezi first before we capture the whole country..we cant allow them to rule after 2011..it will be a replica of UNIP era..KUYA BEBELE..

  32. #28 & #29 kashushushu. Im sorry but you are talking from your butt hole and sound just like Chizyuka. Seems your MMD scheme to mess the Pact using him was caught out. LOOL!! His ill formed character is on record. These events did happen. He’s proved to being not only Tribalist but a Racist bigot as well. Good riddance. VIVA PACT! VIVA Zambia!

  33. With by election on the way. The people of Namwala are going to see project development funds released by the government. That shows how cheap this MMD government is. I would edge the people of Namwala not to vote for MMD.

  34. i was in Namwala last week and its clear this MAJOR trouble maker called chizyuka is headed for a seruios bruising there. The speaker shud declare the seat vacant ASAP.Viva pack.ulakacibona chizyuka.

  35. CHIFITA FITITI WAPYA BAISA BA UPND/PF. WE ARE MOVING LIKE A WILD BUSH FIRE AND THIS TIME AROUND NOTHING CAN STOP US.

  36. Bloggers in Solwezi, who is this MMD candidate and how are the campaigns getting on so far? I have started getting butterflies in my wee stomach.lol

  37. As MMD, we remain democratic, and well informed. You young man or woman, we do not let our personal interests, overide ourpowers of reason. The facts speak for themselves, infact, even today, information is clear that the man is popular. Can you dispute thefact that Sata ispopular in Northern province, NO, so am telling you that, with information I have, you who does not vote in that area, will not understadn the man’s popularity. Infact if he has no influence, wouldnt UPND just discard him without all this unecessary drama, get rid of him and pay no attention, but alas the drama, which tells you that there could be something there. We in the MMD, are fishing for real people’s representatives! Statistics show, he is popular!

  38. #49, I agree with you seriously, but gosh, we need another government, MMD has been in power for how long now? Ain’t we getting to KK wamuyayaya? MMD has become complacent and no longer have any political will left in their lungs… They are now riding on cloud telling themselves they are now invincible.. they have outlived their usefulness! Whether that is man is popular or not, MMD should be made to retire or resign, because at the moment, the tax payers are only taking care of liabilities…

  39. Are they any real Zambians living in Canada, Ottawa? am dying to meet some patriots and just share the Zambian stores with them..
