President Rupiah Banda has reiterated his government’s commitment to continue allocating financial resources for developmental projects in the country.
President Banda said this in Chama yesterday when he addressed a public rally attended by hundreds of residents who braved the heat at Chama market.
Mr. Banda said government would ensure that more resources were provided for the development of the nation.
He said that his government intends to distribute resources fairly across the country so that development is spread evenly, adding that Zambians should actively get involved in developing the nation.[quote]
“We want to ensure that all the provinces in the country are developed and not divided because we are one nation,” he said.
And President Banda stated that for the first time in the history of Zambia, agriculture input such as fertilizer have been distributed to all the districts before the onset of the rain season.
President Banda has since reassured farmers that the cost of one bag of fertilizer will be at K50, 000 per bag, adding that the food security pact for a family has been reduced from eight to four so that more farmers could benefit from the supplement.
And President Banda has disclosed that his government would not arrest anyone for criticizing him, adding that as a leader, he would remain focused to developing the nation.
He said Zambia has chosen democracy as its guiding principle and he would therefore, not discriminate against anyone regardless of their political affiliation.
He said his wish was that all children in Zambia have access to education because this was cardinal for the development of the nation.
“I want to see a situation where all children go to school even if their parents did not vote for me,” he added.
He appealed to Zambians to continue being focused and develop the country and not to listen to people from outside the country who would want to confuse the nation.
He has since urged Zambians to uphold peace and remain united for the good of the nation.
Meanwhile, President Banda said government would soon respond to concerns raised by traditional leaders in Chama concerning major projects such as the Chama-Matumbo road and the construction of a bridge at Luangwa river.
He said in a private meeting with the chiefs, he was informed of the need to work on the two projects in the province to enhance development.
President Banda assured the people of Chama that a contractor, Sable had already been engaged to work on the bridge.
Meanwhile, former Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Edward Mumbi commended President Banda for being a good leader.
Mr. Mumbi noted that unlike some party leaders, President Banda was not full of vengeance and insults.
He further charged that the PF leader Michael Sata had received a lot of money from donors which up to now can not account for.
ZANIS
Yaba chimuntu ichi. Better just to shut up!
Has state house moved to Eastern province? RB, you just came from East Africa, sit down, find out how the country is coming out of its ails. This is not a time for rallies, wasting money on political prostitutes, promising people roads and bridges when the tax-payers want an explanation of how you’ll use their money.
The northwest side of Zambia will be voting for a member of parliament, go tell them what you do with the tax the mines in that area pay.
WTF is that RB.It is a pity that so many people are gulible enough to buy what this guy says
This sata issue, why cant it be moved to court, than been used as a campaign message on the podiums. This allegation is indeed a serious one, abuse of donnor funding should be a serious matter and given the correct attention it deserves. Especially that monies were meant for campaigns. Mr Mumbi as Secretary General you were in position to gather enough evidence, so instead of singing by RB’s side go to court so the matter is heard fairly. List we will now persecute you!
Fuel crisis is still on and chi Konga is still saying the situation is under control. A government full of bunch of incompetent people. I’m so sick and tired.
LT what is the situation regarding strike at KCM Nchanga?
Banda is a very painful circus! For him everyday is about two things only, foreign trips and political rallies. Just what was the purpose of this rally in Eastern Province? Is he predicting a by-election there or he has gone there rallying around to leak his Kasama defeat wounds and also the soon the be inflicted Solwezi ones? And this whole prominence he is giving chiefs, it will do nothing but only tear us apart as a unitary nation. The judiciary too, I have never heard of three high court judges sitting to decide on a simple case of a thieving harlot caught pants down with stolen goods, this all smarks of amapolitics akunya!
From the tone of his statement, it sounds like if the President had it in his power, he wouldn’t mind children whose parents didn’t support him in the elections to go to hell education-wise, right? This is not the first time that RB & Company have sort of hinted at this issue in this manner—“I will help everybody, even those who did not vote for me” What a load of crap! Just the fact that a President can talk like this is an indication of how he really feels.
Continued from #8:
You are a republican president, you are suppose to make sure the entire nation is uniformly developed. And one of the most critical responsibility you have as President is to provide good, affordable , and quality education to all Zambian children. Even in those areas you lost in the elections. This is what your Presidency will be judged upon, sir! And it is part of your job description Mr. President, get it?
Its amazing how we just cant refuse bribes, have a clear cut election, take out these loud singing boats…i yet again proclaim, democracy without education is pointless…
continued from #9:
Just yesterday, his V.P. (Kunda) was busy telling people in Solwezi that they should vote for someone who has access to govt resources (money) so they can have their region (Solwezi) developed. Is this what it has come down to in Zambia now? If the MP is not from the ruling Party (MMD) then their constituency gets ZERO DEVELOPMENTAL FUNDS? Wow shocking indeed!!
It is either RB is totally ignorant of the fact that he does not decides who should go to school or there is just deficience in his reasoning. When this man is quiet, things move well, but when he says something, it always veers off to the dark side. Now you can imagine the people the people who have been controling this country!. This is the reason why Zambia with so many sesources is one of the poorest on the continent and these guys have no clue.
And whatever he is saying in eastern province has a tribal conotation. Even as corrupt Chiluba is, he never used to do this. He does not know that he is distancing Imbeba (Easterners) from the rest of Zambia. Just check his speaches, now that he is traveling locally. Speaches are full of nonsense and really childish points
Goodmorning
MMD re-election gimmicks – where’s the development they keep talking about everyday? People in Zambia do you see or feel it?
# 7 those are my thoughts too. RB is always travelling. If not over seas it is to political rallies and traditional ceremonies. What time has he got to look at development issues ? i am confused. Is that the job of a president, just travelling ? leaving the runing of the country to big nose dull ronnie. I think that is the problem with democracy in Zambia. GRZ is more concerned with being re-elected than developing the country. It seems political rallies are at the forfront of agenda with runing the country second and developing it last.
Nalakwa neo ndithu, kakolwe kanitundila pa chimutu changa.
Yes government is committed at developing the nation. President Rupiah Banda has shown that he has the country and the people in it at heart by working tirelessly to ensure that the right economic environment is put in place for job creation. This is the first time in Zambia’s history that we have what someone once called the 3 E’s (Economist as Bank of Zambia GOV, Economist as Minister of Finance and National Planning, Economist as President) as the 3 E’s are heading the most sensitive government organs that have the potential to steer the economy of the nation. We have full confidence that under the 3 E’s, the economy will greatly develop. We have confidence in your administration President Rupiah Banda.
Please Zambians lets mobilize ourselves to remove MMD from power or else we are doomed for good. All the time our leaders are attending to their party issues not government. We should start planning now. Those of us who can afford to home for 2011 elections, lets do it in numbers. We should get involved fully. Remember we only have on country-ZAMBIA.
#17 Your E 3 have failed us lamentably. One wonders what type economics they learnt. Economists who cant even plan for fuel.Even my Dad (plumber) never let us go hungry with his limited resources. But we have economists with means to buy fuel for the country but fail to procure on time and you still praise them. What do you smoke? Or are you that full that your ears are bloked and eyes cant see? We know you are selfish but for Christ’s sake even the poor man in Chibolya is a Zambian and is entitled to some basic needs not just you and Rupiah/his family
Mr President RB the time for campaigning is over. Now is the time for you to fulfil your campaign promises. You are already in power and you gonna be judged on your performance in 2011. Take a leaf from the young USA President, Barrack Obama. Work, work, work and let us judge you on your performance. It is your responsibility as repulican president to develop Zambia regardless of where you got the highest votes. As National President you should understand your job description better. use your degree in economics that you obtained years ago.
Lusaka Times Comments Policy
Lusaka Times welcomes and encourages your commentary and debate. However, we request that you restrict your comments to pertinent matters. We will not tolerate any comments that are abusive, threatening, defamatory or libellous, or attacks, ad hominem and otherwise, on fellow bloggers.
Ad Hominem -> A fallacy that attacks the person rather than dealing with the real issue in dispute.
#19 says: “What do you smoke? Or are you that full that your ears are bloked and eyes cant see? We know you are selfish”
This is not only an attack but also an ad hominem. Lusaka Times, if you have a comments policy that is easily accessible by everyone, you might as well act upon your comments policy.
Dont worry with pple that talk rubbish , thats they are made off, a person is known by what comes out them , i will no if u are of the pact or not by what u write, hurting pple full bitterness are from the PF and UPND pact , lke father lke son.
Even the newspapers called the post joined the bitterness, polluting even the elect.
MMD pple u will know them by lies, and explaining were u not even supposed to explain, u will find them explaining, just work will see if u are working or just making noise.
Please Zambian we have talked too much , i think let build our nation by working 2gether, 4get about the spilled milk, n build whilst its stille 2day.
# 21 I m barely trying to disagree when you want to cheat/confuse us with the 3 E’s. Dont raise issues if you cant handle them. We are not JOKING. Our brothers and sisters are suffering day in and out and we have people like you praising our leaders as if all is well. Once again brothers and sisters our country can only saved by us. Lets not be intimidated by politicians who are only interested in filling up their bellies. We need responsible leaders. Zambia is not poor.
“I m barely trying to disagree when you want to cheat/confuse us with the 3 E’s.”
#23, Point out where I have cheated/confused you and your appeal to emotion does not change the fact that you still used ad hominems which are a violation of the Lusaka Times comments policy and I am expecting Lusaka Times to act with the appropriate action.
The fastest way for a politician to become an elder statesman is to lose an election.
A statesman is he who thinks in the future generations, and a politician is he who thinks in the upcoming elections.
Now I know what a statesman is; he’s a dead politician. We need more statesmen.
A politician is a person with whose politics you don’t agree; if you agree with him he’s a statesman.
The statesman shears the sheep; the politician skins them.
# I dont think LT will do anything. It is clear that your 3 E’s are failures and you want us to accept that they are doing a commendable job. NO we refuse because thats incorrect hence cheating. Please just apologise to the nation. Think of all the people who suffering because of our government. Lets not pretend that all is well. Its just a matter of visiting a relative in the Mutendere and you will see for your self. And these people are trying their best but due to your friends incompetence they have no food, roads etc. If your educated mates change and start doing the right things,l will definately support them. For now its a big ZERO.
# 27.
Did you ever notice that when RB does get an idea he usually gets it all wrong.
How can he even speak when there’s no petrol in Chipata
# 28 This is what l have been trying to tell Mr. Capitalist but unfortunately he is living in a different world where Zambia is at its best.
# 29 Ask Capitalist since he has 3 E’s in charge.
ZAMBIA RECORDS US$645 MILLION IN BALANCE OF PAYMENT SURPLUS
Zambia’s central bank has disclosed that preliminary data indicate that Zambia’s overall balance of payment surplus improved to US$645.5 million during the third quarter of 2009 from a surplus of US$24.9 million recorded the previous quarter.
Bank of Zambia governor Caleb Fundanga says this was on account of favorable performance in both the current and capital financial accounts.
Speaking this morning during the third quarter media briefing, Dr Fundanga says the current account was boosted by a 43.3% increase to US$ 1,267.7 million in merchandise export earnings, which in turn followed the increase in metal as well as non metal exports earning by 45.6% and 35.7% respectively.
And Dr. Fundanga says the current shortage of fuel being experienced in some parts of country will have a negative impact on the economy if it persists.
He has however expressed opportunism that the fuel crisis will be resolved with the commencement of production at Indeni refinery.
Still bewildered by the flabbergasting language of my President.Surprising that he can make a headline ” Sata is a son of sata “. It is not long ago when he called some Honourable MPs “Vimasilu”. Mr. President we deserve our leader to express high levels of civility both in speech and actions. What sort of father should we think you are to those young sons you have? If you can call elderly people such names in public, what should we not think you call anyone at home? What sort of diplomacy did you practice in your younger days? Please Mr. President, don’t cheapen the office you hold. Lift yourself to standards expected of a President. In Australia the Prime Minister once called the opposition leader ” The alternative Prime Minister of Australia”. I hope he could read this ! I rest my…
Germany ambassador to Zambia Frank Maika has Zambia has a perfect reputation internationally of being a stable and peaceful democracy, with a vibrant civil society and a free independent press which should be helped to be responsible.
He says it is up to Zambians to maintain the well deserved reputation they have right now.Ambassador Maika further says it is Germany’s wish that all democratic forces in Zambia will join in creating the preconditions for free and fair elections in 2011.
#35 Patriot. What do you expect HE the Germany Ambassador to say. Are forgeting that just a few weeks ago some foreign embass was almost attacked by a combination of MMD Zealots and some small parties? What he thinks he dare not say it, but will say what you think.
Since RB never believes what he says, he is surprised when others believe him.
“We stand to depend on bloggers for votes as Sata’s insolence angers Bembas” quote Kaseba Sata
THE Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE) has been saddened by Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata’s disrespectful remarks against Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
BRE Spokesperson Bwalya Chiti said in an interview yesterday that Mr Sata’s accusations that Chief Chitimukulu’s pocket had benefited from President Rupiah Banda’s Government were unfortunate.
Well, I have read the reactions of the BRE as posted here by Sata’s worried fifth wife Kaseba. One thing Bembas ought to know is that Sata is a Bisa from Mbeya Tanzania with incorrigible hatred and envy for the bembas.I do not see him behaving with dignity but usual disrepute against the lubembaland.
If wishes were horses..state house gardens would have mules. And maybe the President means what he says about the need to develop the country equally, but what he lacks is the tenacity/imagination to get it done. And maybe he’s only politicking, as usual. Surely with his experience as at CEO level at NAMBOARD, he should ensure that every Zedian drinks- a-pinta-milk-a-day (anyone remember that one?) and gobbles an egg a day. But so far, we haven’t seen any evidence of imagination from the President. Should we read his lips whenhe says he’ll NEVER arrest anyone for criticizing him? Should we? Seriously?
Since the time the 3 Es took office there has been total mess in the country. These 3 Es with all their degrees have brought so much suffering upon the Zambian souls. Come 2011 you are all out with your Economics degrees which have not served any purpose during your time in office.
# 39 I too have heard that Sata is Tanzanian – or, hails from Tanganyika. Can we have more on that? And how does he hate Bembas when, like his hero, Chiluba, he speaks to everyone (including a Mukololo like me) in Bemba, and he gets angry when you tell him you don’t speak that language? Look bemba brothers, it’s people like Sata who masquarade as bermbas that are giving the tribe a bad name, don’t you think? A Tanzanian, eh? Give it to us, we ignorant lampoons.
Dr.Kaseba,
On your post “ZAMBIA RECORDS US$645 MILLION IN BALANCE OF PAYMENT SURPLUS” end quote,
Well what do you expect when Economists are in-charge from plot one, ministry of Finance and National Development Planning, the Central Bank and those in the public policy analysis and advisory? Economists are in-charge and the best are yet to come. You know economists other than being populists, they are practical rationalists. Look at the economic stability despite the Global instability as a result of economic failure, Zambia under the leadership of an economist has been stirred through the troubled waters with judgment and intellect.Look at the highest ever post UNIP era, Zambia’ foreign reserves have increased to historic high. The best is yet to come as economist are navigating…
RB shut up!!!!!!!!
KCM miners are on strike. How are you going to solve this 1?
#22 code 101, I appreciate your ADVISE, if indeed our interests are in favour of Zambians, why wait for 2011, lets act now. and develop this beautiful country.
This prez must think that we are fools.
# 33 Dr.Kaseba that increase is due expanded mining were they are even mining in game parks. What finished goods is zambia exportoing ? jack s##t. The man with the 3 E’s is only building shopping malls. Does he not know the benifits that manufacturing plants bring ?. At this rate of increased exports of raw materials even from game parks, there will be nothing but shopping malls for future generations.
THAT SOUNDS VERY STRANGE…..COMING FROM RUPI THE GREAT
u can allocate all the resources to your sons if you so wish…..we have given up!!!
