PF condemns parading of chiefs at rallies

Patriotic Front (PF) Youths have condemned political parties parading traditional leaders during rallies.

PF National Youth Secretary Eric Chanda said his party is also against forcing the traditional rulers into partisan politics.
Mr Chanda said it is culturally unacceptable and disrespectful to take chiefs who are supposed to be non partisan and parade them at political rallies.

He observed that the development is a sad one and can lead to divisions in the respective chiefdoms and the country as a whole.

He said chiefs should be left out of the political ring in order to enable them operate in a non partisan manner to efficiently and without discrimination serve the people in their chiefdoms.

The PF National Youth Secretary said this in a press release made available to ZANIS yesterday.

He disclosed that the PF leader Michael Sata has maximum respect for the chiefs in the country hence the policy to pay a courtesy call on the chief whenever he enters a chiefdom.

  1. What we Zambians fail to see is the MMD/RB appoint people to chieftainship. Until this nonsense of one to first be recognized by the President to become chief, these chaps, CHIEFS will always pander to the whims of MMD. Any way I hear that even CHITIMUKULU voted for GBM inspite his public utterances in favour of MMD. Just goes to show that you cannot read what is ones heart/mind.

  2. There iz no need to condem the chiefs; after all they are adults who can make informed decizionz. Just az long az they don’t pretend to reprezent the people in their chiefdomz when they are paraded. The people make their own choice in the end and we will see whoze laugh comez last.

  3. During the Kasama by-elections, the PF was campaigning with a certain Chief – I’ve forgotten his name. Its a matter of which situation suits whom. But i are just compromising their dignity in the face of the general public. All they want is cash. Just look at some of the wrangles over chieftainship. Is it for the sake service or recieving homage? In any case they have very little influence over the electorate as shown in Kasama.

  4. Chiefs r always very hungry and too poor. Perhaps they should join politics and see how hot n ruff it can get!

  5. I have problems with the role of Chiefs in modern society, actually i even have problems with the british monarchy. . However if they do exist, then i guess they should have a right to express their political view/ preferences . The problem is with their vunerability they are likely to be black mailed by the government of the day

  6. I have seen cracks in this pact!!!! You must handle this pact very well otherwise it will not work.Have you heard what HH has said,, no one is campaigning for anyone. This is what
is expected from this pact. HH has not accepted as vice president,,,!!!!! full stop.PF support stop
distroying pact because your laguage is like supporting sata as a president of pact.!!!!!!! sata
must know that is not alone for the pact….!!!I have heard people are saying not sata as a
president of the country….watch this site for more information…!!!!

  7. Of course they should complain about the MMD parading the chiefs. They want to do it themselves.

  8. 10. Positivist pa Zed

Aricle 129 of the Law of Zambia clearly states that a person shall not, while remaining a Chief, join or participate in
    partisan politics.

    11. Kizito – HH not campaigning for Sata does not mean the pact is cracking because they have never said who the candidate is. Had they told us Sata is standing and HH will campaing for him, then HH now says he is not campainging for Sata – or vise versa, then you have a point. Otherwise none.
