President Muammar Gaddafi last night hosted an official dinner for President Rupiah Banda and his Chadian counterpart Idris Debie in the capital Tripoli.

Before the dinner was served in a tent in the outskirts of Tripoli, the two leaders met on a one-on-one basis.

Also in attendance at the dinner was agriculture minister Dr Brian Chituwo, Zambia’s ambassador to Libya Mulondwe Muzungu, President Banda’s special assistant for economy Dr Richard Chembe and his counterpart for press and public relations Dickson Jere.

President Banda who is also chairman of the Great Lakes Region Peace Initiative, arrived in Libya yesterday and held joint talks with current African Union chairman president Gaddafi and Idris Debie of Chad.

The Zambian head of state, whose delegation includes First Lady Thandiwe, leaves Tripoli for Rome, Italy, today, to attend the World summit on Food Security which opens tomorrow.

Mrs Banda is later today expected to be among other First Ladies scheduled to attend the Second Non Aligned Movement First Ladies Summit which will discuss Food Security and women’s Access to Resources.

  1. I honestly wonder what Banda is up to cozying with this pathetic terrorist who has more than any body today fueled more civil wars in Africa that have resulted into the death of millions of fellow back Africans. This man clearly does not know what he is doing and the earlier Zambians get rid of him the better.

  2. Too Many trips Banda, failing to sort out local issues but enjoying food in other countries- UKUPULA SANA IWE CI BANDA. For God’s sake what is Zambia benefiting from such tours?
Poverty has increased, Corruption has re-surfaced and MMD cadres have gone on rampage to harrassand attack every one on the street. Where are we going? Please Banda sit down at home and resolve the nation’s problems. Perhpas you can’t sleep at State House becuase you have been haunted!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Our globe trotting president! when does he sit down and actually make strategic decisions for zambia.Or perhaps he thinks better when he is in a plane? And I agree with #1 whats this business of getting cozy with dodgy leaders? Thandiwe your kids are small and need their mum take a leaf from Betty Kaunda.Look at the kids they(the Kaundas) raised- descent on the large part. Don’t try to keep up with your well travelled husband, go take care of your babies.

  4. RB should only have been a stop gap leader. He is not inspiring or visionary, we seem to be on auto pilot. Maybe he would be better in the Tourist Board and sell Zambia. He really enjoys his travels.

  5. Zonda uzalema! The difference between him & you is that he is the Head of State and you’re just a mere blogger. And what’s more, he was “democratically” elected by the same people who are crying out loud!

  6. For years, George Kunda had been taking vacations at Kariba Inn. The last time he’d finally managed an affair with the innkeeper’s daughter, Mutinta. Looking forward to an exciting few days, he dragged his suitcase up the stairs of the Karina Inn, then stopped short. There sat his lover, Mutinta, with an infant on her lap! “Mutinta, why didn’t you write when you learned you were pregnant?” he cried. “I would have rushed up here, we could have gotten married, and the baby would have my name!” “Well,” Mutinta said, “when my folks found out about my condition, we sat up all night talking, and decided it would be better to have a bastard in the family than a lawyer.”

  7. Bishop Telesphore had the misfortune to be seated next to a lawyer, Sangwapo, on his flight home from a religious conference in Rome. After the plane was airborne, the flight attendant came around for drink orders. Sangwapo asked for a whiskey on the rocks, which was brought and placed before him. The attendant then asked the Bishop if he would also like a drink. The Bishop Telesphore replied in disgust, “I’d rather savagely rape a brazen whore than let liquor touch these lips.” Upon hearing this, Sangwapo then handed his drink back to the attendant and told her with delight, “I didn’t know there was a choice.”

  8. MY WORRY IS WHAT IS GOING ON BTWEEN KADAFI AND RB. I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING ATTACHED TO THIS SO CALLED SPECIAL VISIT SOON IT GONA BE REVIEWED….IT COULD BE THE INDENI ISSUE OR SOMETHING BAD TO OUR COUNTRY. WHY IS HE VISIT SO SPECIAL TO KADAFI? KADAFI IS ONE MAN I DONT TRUST AT ALL. I AM AFRAID FOR ZAMBIA REALLY.
WHERE ARE WE GOING SURE IFWE MUZAMBIA? WILL THERE BE ROOM FOR US IN 30 YEARS TIME? GUYS I CALL UPON YOU TO MOVE FORWARD AND HELP REMOVE THIS REGIME. I TELL YOU THIS MAN WILL STILL RIG THE ELECTIONS, KADAAFI AND THE CHINESE WILL HELP HIM WIN THE ELECTIONS. THIS MAN MAKES ME CRY? HELP US GOD

  9. Kapumpa Mumba was out hiking with General Ben Mibenge when they encountered a lioness. Mumba dropped his pack and wig and got ready to run. “You’ll never outrun a hungry lioness!” exclaimed the General. “I don’t have to outrun her,” replied Mumba. “I just have to outrun you!”

The next day a Hyena came upon that same lioness licking a pile of dung. “What on earth are you doing?” the Hyena asked in amazement. The lioness looked up dolefully. “I ate a lawyer yesterday, and I’m still trying to get the taste out of my mouth.”

  10. What is interesing is the continued worry being exhibited by Zambians. You know the bible speaks clearly on worry, worry not for a future you do not know. Instead be more concerned about todays happenings so you can correct them. I think the question we should put to our president is what is it you are doing in these summits, that keeps you trotting from one country to another….and to our future leaders be it Sata or HH is, when you will be in this postion, and you called on to a summit, will you decline?

  11. A nation without culture is dead, goes the saying. This country seems to have no culture at all and respect for its leadership. How can a Holy God bless such a nation? Its amazing.Keepon wth your culture, anyway! You reap what you plant.

  12. The President really ‘looooves’ flying. It seems he picked a wrong career altogether. He should have trained as a pilot so he could fly all wants! When is he ever at State House to attend to the Nation’s many pressing issues?

If he is not traveling within Zambia, he is up in the air heading to some foreign country. Although as President he can delegate many of his duties to his subordinates, his presence in office at State House is still vital. Even events that he can simply send his V.P. or some Cabinet Secretary to represent him; but NO! he has to go himself. You wonder how much money is being wasted on these trips. To make matters worse, every time he travels he has to bring along half of his cabinet.

Ichiwa cha ba LPM mu State House ka!

  13. leave the presido alone you s.t.upi.d blogger! go download porn or do mmembe in the bottom. wat a bunch of jealous ignorant hatin negroes.

  14. RB has made a point.
“ZAMBIA DOES NOT NEED A LEADER.”
We have been without a presdo for a while now and we still going forward.
There is no need to have a president. Hahaaaa
May the Constitution Review guys look into this, it is possible. lol

  15. Surreal drama of Zambia ‘porn’ trial

The trial of a news editor in Zambia, accused of distributing obscene material, is coming to an end. Chansa Kabwela says she sent photos of a woman giving birth without medical help to senior government officials to highlight the effects of a nurses’ strike. Jo Fidgen has watched the trial, and reflects on what it reveals about Zambian culture.

Chansa Kabwela is news editor of Zambia’s best-selling newspaper
The arresting officer makes for an arresting sight.
Sharon Zulu strides into the witness box, a strapping woman in gravity-defying heels and a shiny, baby-pink trouser suit. Grace Jones disguised as Shirley Temple. The promise of a grand finale to the prosecution case.
So far, it has amounted to a succession of trembling ministerial…

  16. RB was a career diplomat in the KK days.We all know that. Diplomats travel widely and a lot. Is he not just carrying on in the tradition he was familiar with in his earlier working life? Gaddafi as AU chairman is just another woeful example of how a non-democrat soldier in a suit (like Egypt’s Mubarak, Sudan’s Bashir, Gambia’s Jammeh, Algeria’s leadership and so on) can use his political pretensions to push his agenda at the continental and global level at the expense of true leadership that Africa lacks in abundance. The AU is still a Head of States talking shop unable to push real change in Africa on many levels. Gaddafi wants African unity with himself as the boss of it all. he has not held power for the last 40 years in Libya by democratic governance and the will of the people.

  17. ZAMBIAN workers engaged by the Chinese contractor constructing the Ndola Stadium have expressed fear of a possible cholera outbreak as the pit latrines they use are full and likely to collapse.
A check on site found the latrines full of rainwater.
One of the supervisors who did not want to be named disclosed that their employer was not concerned about the state of the latrines because the Chinese employees were not affected as they use waterborne toilets.
“Our latrines are full and the rooms have a lot of flies that you cannot even try to go in there,” he said.

  18. The source said Zambian workers were forced to use the bushes to answer the call of nature as they were not allowed to use the flushing toilets.
The source said the premises with flushing toilets were out of bounds to Zambian workers and anyone found there was dismissed instantly.
“The only Zambians who are allowed to use the flashed toilets are government officials when they visit the place,” he said.
The source said Ndola City Council was aware of the concerns but nothing had been done.

But Ndola council spokesperson Roy Kuseka said he had not received any report concerning sanitation from the Ndola Stadium.
He said the council would send a team of health workers to inspect the place.

  19. Libya  Telecom is one of the companies shortlisted to buy Zamtel. Before the end of the month the results will be announced. and now we don’t have to guess who will be. In short RB, went to seal the deal for Zamtel over a dinner.

  20. Its only in Zambia where managers use clean toilets and other facilities seperate from the rest of the workforce. Unfortunately, this attitude applies even to government ministries. One would have thought that inspection of construction sites by the arms of government is continuous and regular. Its surprising to here that Kuseba will send health inspectors just now. 3weeks ago I was in Cairo rd, Lusaka and child wanted to use the toilet. I was told there was a clean fee-pay-toilet at Building Society. The state in which I found the toilets was to say the least pathetic, I couldn’t let my child including myself use the facility…

  21. …I came out of the toilet with the speed of a bullet. Outside, I was fortunate to meet this taxi driver whom I asked to take us to the lodge he new with extremely high standards of cleanliness. He said he new the place and he drove us to “SANDY’S CREATION”. Thats in fact how I discovered Sandy’s Creations, outside Lusaka town along Kafue road. This place talks for itself. I am strongly advising any visitor to Zambia (including the locals) to visit this place. Everything is simply superb. Toilets are spacious and extremely clean. The service is something I am familiar with here abroad-superb. Anyone who…

  22. …has been there knows what am talking about. Now, this is how generally, the whole Zambia is supposed to be and in particular the so called capital city of Zambia-Lusaka. I am sure MICHAEL SATA’s government, can implement policies to bring Zambia’s towns to a minimum level of cleanliness. IT WOULDN’T BE SURPRISING to learn that ‘STATE HOUSE’ TOILETS are filthy and RB flies out of the country to go and empty his bowels abroad. Because what reason can one give for his frequent trips abroad and overseas.

  23. Zambian President Rupia Banda has said the government spent $13m (£7.8m)prosecuting President Frederick Chiluba.

The former president was accused of embezzling $500,000 of public funds.

Speaking at a rally, President Banda said the money would have been far better spent on schools, medicines and hospitals.

Mr Chiluba, who has famously extravagant tastes, was acquitted of the charges in August.

In a separate case in 2007, London’s High Court ruled that Mr Chiluba had defrauded the Zambian government of more than $40m using UK-based bank accounts.

  24. Can this so-called prez retire, so that he can enjoy his sight seeing. When does he ever do any work in Zambia, when he always has wings? I just hope and pray that he won’t bring GM foods to Zambia. Why is he cozying up to that tyrant, Gaddafi?

  25. RB Kamwendo munjila. MTN slogan “Everywhere you go” he is there. This man did not know that he could become a President. Where on earth a parent can leave his children starving while he goes feasting with others? No fuel and now riot in Mfulira. Sakala uyu. Come 2011 you will go back to your farm if not caged together with Chiluba the anointed chief. RB whether you like it or not Chiluba is a thief and he has no immunity to defend him from being called a thief. Akabwalala imwe.

  26. Marvellous Marvin Hagler
Well, the whole world disagrees with you. USA, UK, France, Germany and many others are all cozening up to Gaddafi. There is money in Libya. For a long time Zambia suffered when in principle we supported liberation struggles. There is very little we have gained from this. Now, put away your ‘morality’ and look to national interests. The western countries have been doing this throughout the ages. Beside, who defines Gaddafi as a terrorist? The venerable Mandela doesn’t. You are on your own.

  27. pliz challenger where you have gone dont come back you can see how you are been abused.its better nakuzipaya ukagwe che monga baja bakuka ka tower. you will save us

  28. I now believe when they say in a democracy people think without thinking. how could he be traveeling like this? Awe guys in Zambia what made you vote for this global trotter. I was in Edgars yesterday, i saw a phone written globe trotter dual sims. the 1st person i thought of was RB.

  29. Oh my goodness,RB please listen to your people’s cry.U could save alot of money by not attending these so-called functions.Look at the “entourage” u go with, look at the allowances they get, look at the fuel your challenger guzzles, look at the accomodation costs for your entourage????please we pray that u come back to your senses.

  30. Am yet to read constructiv blogs on the president in LT. Where are the progressive thinkers who can take us forward in these hard times instead of a bunch of whiners I find here? So obsessed with the pres. travels you cant see beyond your pathetic selves. In case you lot didn’t know the job of a pres. , like else where, his job is to delegate work, surely that must mean he trusts his team to perform in his absence then he can get on with other things which happen to involve travelling! The job description comes with travelling, hello! Surely you dont xpect him to go digging up trenches and dusting the office desks or watering flowers outside, do you?. Thats your job to do. So get off your back side and get on with it and quit whining! Your persistance on negativity is holding us back!

  31. Who is the moderator for this kansi? Why are you l;etting insults prevail on these blogs? You will lose credible contributors if this behaviour continues, there are people who comment with respect and thoughtfulness but i don’t think everyone appreciates some of the insults you are letting slide on these forums. LT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AND ENSURE INSULTS ARE REMOVED QUICKLY. LETS HAVE SOME DECENCY AND DEBATE REASONABLY.. PLEASE.
